Automated recovery has minimized downtime and supports seamless multi‑datacenter failover
Beyond pricing, there are areas where I would like to see InfoScale improved or enhanced. Veritas offers three management approaches. The first, which Veritas currently recommends, is Veritas Operation Manager. The second is the Cluster Manager Java Console graphical interface. The Cluster Manager Java Console has not been revised since version 6.1 or 6.2. This tool was critical for me, particularly valuable when managing small cluster footprints of 20 to 30 server nodes. I relied heavily on this tool, but Veritas has moved away from it in favor of Operation Manager. I recommend Veritas continue evolving this tool rather than discarding it. The third approach is the command line, suitable for individuals with extensive Veritas expertise and experience, but command line use in live environments consumed excessive time, leading me to prefer the graphical interface. Apart from pricing, I have not discovered disadvantages. The product is excellent. My concern is Veritas discarding the Cluster Manager Java Console in favor of Veritas Operation Manager. Setting up Operation Manager requires time and a dedicated server that runs continuously. I had to create a single server just for Veritas Operation Manager. While this works well for larger environments with hundreds of clusters, it is less useful for smaller deployments. I still recommend Veritas reconsider this application and evolve it by incorporating new features from Veritas Operation Manager. Adding these new features to the Java console would be beneficial because that tool runs on my laptop without consuming environment resources, and I can connect directly to clusters from my laptop. I am not opposing Veritas Operation Manager, which is excellent and resembles hardware management consoles for power machines, but smaller tools that previously performed these tasks should remain as options to provide clients with greater ease. From a features and functionality perspective, I do not find missing features in InfoScale at this moment. However, I am not actively using Veritas, managing only legacy machines on older hardware. I am upgrading operating systems but not Veritas due to contract expiration and end-of-life status. The contract is not being renewed because the customer wants to move away. Since I have not logged into VCS since 2021 and transferred responsibilities to another team, I am unaware of features arriving in version 8 or beyond and cannot comment specifically on recent Veritas introductions.

Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Unified incident response has reduced alert noise and improves on-call focus and coordination
PagerDuty Operations Cloud could improve its noise reduction by making deduplication and suppression more automated instead of manually tuned, and the service dependency graph could be more intuitive with cleaner visuals and easier-to-understand root cause tracing during major incidents. Automation could go further with smarter runbook triggers and AI-driven suggestions to help find root causes, which could save a lot of time for engineers who are struggling to understand what is actually happening. These AI capabilities could lower the time by maybe 50–60%. Analytics and reporting could be more flexible, allowing custom dashboards and filters and team-level MTTA and MTTR breakdowns, so that it is segregated based on teams and it is much easier to have custom dashboards for the teams to understand more. Alert storms were a recurring frustration for the on-call team, and escalation overrides and service dependency graphs can get a bit confusing in larger environments. More customizable analytics and smarter automation would make the platform even easier, more flexible and more powerful for the team to understand. PagerDuty Operations Cloud could improve its analytics flexibility with customized dashboards and AI capabilities to be more trained and more reliable. Service dependency mapping can also feel cluttered in big environments, making it harder to trace upstream and downstream impacts during bigger incidents. We implemented PagerDuty Operations Cloud's AI to help with alert grouping and early incident insights, but accuracy was not consistent enough to rely on during critical events. It occasionally grouped unrelated alerts or missed correlations, which limited the operational efficiency gains we expected. The on-call team still depended heavily on manual triage because AI suggestions were not always aligned with the real root cause. Overall, AI added some value but it has not yet reached the reliability needed to significantly improve the incident response efficiency. It needs more training or more work.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The best feature in InfoScale is the file system, which is the greatest feature as you can get any storage LUN from any hardware because it's software-defined and create a volume that can consist of storage from two or more different vendors, which avoids any vendor lock-in and makes it easier when you expand as time goes."
"From a recovery standpoint, InfoScale is excellent and easy to manage."
"InfoScale does that all by itself without any dependency on different solutions."
"The best feature is that it supports high availability and automatic failover, which minimizes downtime and helps the environment reduce downtime and improve high availability for critical applications."
"InfoScale's ability to maintain data integrity and availability during a cyber event such as a ransomware attack is excellent."
"Over the last two years, we did not experience any application failover or receive alerts due to the immediate switchover mechanism in active-active mode that ensures no downtime, helping us significantly with confidence and trust in our organization."
"It's a stable solution."
"It offers High Availability for many applications, including Oracle and SAP environment."
"The first benefit was being able to sleep better at night knowing that we can recover instantly."
"The most important feature is that the recovery point (RPO) is less than one minute. The is really good for our customers, as they can keep their data loss to a minimum."
"Overall, the solution probably has saved us hundreds of thousands of dollars or maybe millions."
"It's a nice tool, and you should go for it; I don't think you'll be disappointed."
"The product is superior compared to the other vendors."
"HPE Zerto Software has saved me time in data recovery situations due to something like ransomware because we have protection against it."
"Being hardware agnostic is nice in that we don't really need a 15 second recovery time. It's easy to use. It's always doing updates behind the scenes. These are the positive things. The setup is pretty easy. Building out the VPGs is pretty easy. And it works like it's supposed to."
"Its ease of use is valuable. You do not have to do much to install Zerto or implement Zerto on the infrastructure. It is not very complicated."
"Integration-wise, PagerDuty Operations Cloud is flawless."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud offers excellent features including the alert system and automated incident escalation capability, which is effective for routing issues to the right team through mobile notifications, SMS, or phone calls."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud has positively impacted my organization by enabling faster issue response, which helped reduce downtime, saved revenue by avoiding long outages, improved team accountability during incidents, reduced manual effort in handling alerts, and helped maintain a better customer experience."
"Using PagerDuty Operations Cloud is a very crucial part for us; if we do not use it, we don't know what is happening in the customer's environment."
"Because of this product we have less business critical applications being down for lengthy periods, which is invaluable."
"The most valuable feature of PagerDuty is its integration with other tools, such as Amazon AWS, to receive notifications or create automatic instances."
"PagerDuty Operations Cloud has positively impacted our organization by ensuring that our banking applications, which operate 24/7, remain functional and efficient, contributing to better service availability."
"The most valuable thing I appreciate about PagerDuty Operations Cloud is the escalation process, where it automatically escalates incidents."

Cons

"While InfoScale is mainly used by enterprise-level customers, it does not inherently support many applications, which presents a scalability issue."
"It could be more stable and more secure."
"My experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing indicates that pricing is a little higher and should be reduced since most companies cannot afford it."
"Based on my experience with support, I would rate them a nine, only because occasionally the first person I talk to does not know more than I do and it needs to be escalated to reach someone more knowledgeable."
"The primary concern is licensing cost, as the customer is unwilling to invest further and has begun cost-cutting measures."
"It's very difficult to implement."
"Many customers can see the benefit of InfoScale, but they are usually not able to purchase the product because the license cost is very high."
"Many customers can see the benefits of InfoScale, but they are usually not able to buy the products and solutions because of the licensing costs."
"You can create a VPG and put anywhere from one to 17 servers in that group. We build them one by one. If something changes in VMware, it would be nice to be able to go in and change that VPG, having it update without messing up. When you change them now, it only applies to the copies from the points when you changed it. I wish it would purge that older data from the past. Right now, we have to build a new VPG, which is not a big deal as it is just a few screens."
"We have had some issues with trying to get certain parts of the backup or restore functionality to work."
"Bandwidth throttling schedule should include days of week"
"It took some time to get to know the solution in general, and exactly what functions each of the features is used for."
"The technical support response time has room for improvement."
"I have experienced issues with downtime, crashes, and performance with HPE Zerto Software. When we first deployed it, we were replicating to AVS, and we've done DR tests where we've left that test environment running for a significant period and had issues with the amount of storage space it was using."
"Another area for improvement I'd like to see is the tuning of the VRAs built into the GUI. It's a little cryptic. You really have to be a very technical engineer to get that deep into it. I'd like to see a little better interface that allows you to do that tuning yourself, rather than trying to get their engineer and your engineer together to do it."
"We have had issues with licensing, where the license we've been given by Zerto support doesn't include VSS replication, which was a pain at the time."
"I can evaluate the effectiveness of PagerDuty Operations Cloud in providing insights for decision-making, and I rate it around seven out of ten."
"The main thing is that sometimes we receive some alerts continuously, which may be noisy."
"Our developers noted that integrating incident bots or chatbots created with AI tools occasionally presents challenges with PagerDuty Operations Cloud."
"PagerDuty can improve the integration with Terraform."
"It cannot be integrated with our upgraded Jira system."
"They need to sort out the date / time function when the time zones switch over from Normal to Daylight savings, and vise versa."
"I would rate PagerDuty Operations Cloud six out of ten because I believe you can add more features to make the platform even better."
"Because of the way you have to structure the rosters, if an engineer has to go on leave (or something), you can't just go in and reassign/take this person out of all of the different rosters that they're in. You have to go into each of the rosters and take them out. There might be a roster for business hours, after hours rotation, and monitoring deployments. Each time we need to take an engineer out of the pool, e.g., if they're sick or on leave, then we have to go and touch all of those rosters, updating and replacing them. Whereas, if we could just take the person out and have it automatically fill in the rostering, then that would make life a lot easier for managing it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our clients pay for licensing on a yearly basis."
"From a customer perspective, the price is okay. From an investor's perspective, however, it is a little bit high."
"We feel it is pretty cost-efficient. For the amount of protection that we get for Zerto, we feel that it is at an excellent price point, especially compared to some of the other vendors that were just backup solutions. For all that it does, we feel that the price is good."
"It is not cheap, but it is reasonable for what it is offering. It gives me the peace of mind that my data is protected. It is worth the cost."
"In general, it's pretty fair because it is software. In our case, we built our own colo. So, the cost of the colo was very expensive, and that's where a lot of the equipment is. The same thing is there if we were going to spin up in the cloud, but as a solution, in general, it's pretty fair for what you get out of it and how it works. It's not cheap, but at the same time, you get what you pay for, and it's definitely worth the cost. You just have to understand that the cost of the software alone is not the total cost of the project of doing ransomware protection or disaster recovery. It's a piece of the pie, not the entire pie."
"Zerto is more cost-effective than Azure."
"From a pricing standpoint, there is value in it without question. However, it can become quite expensive when you start looking at the number of workloads you have in the environment and what you would like to do."
"It works very well as a backup and recovery solution, with frequent recovery points. It's very good. But it's too pricey for us to use it as a backup solution for all of our clients. Not every customer needs recovery points every five seconds."
"It is not the cheapest option on the market, but it offers a number of features that make it a good value for businesses that need a comprehensive disaster recovery plan."
"The price is very high."
"The pricing may be about $1,000 per user."
"If you add more people, then you have to pay more, which is always a thing with the SaaS solutions."
"Licensing costs are around $700 a month, and the only additional costs, are phone costs in some instances."
"If we wanted phone calls or additional SMSs, we would have to pitch up for those. They give us so many per month per user, then we have to pay extra if it goes over that."
"The solution is paid on a monthly basis and represents about 1% of the platform's budget."
"The cost is quite high. But if you want to get a full-featured application and you have a big team..."
"PagerDuty has monthly and yearly licenses available, the costs of which can get quite high if you have a large number of users."
