Has reduced backup time for large workloads and supports smooth workload migration
Role-based access control and multi-factor authentication are security features available in NetApp SnapCenter. The one-time password comes to our multi-factor authentication tool; we work with Cisco Duo, and that OTP is generated through that tool, which we use to access the device. There are different options through which we can migrate workloads without downtime. The user interface is very easy to handle and not complicated. There are multiple features that make NetApp SnapCenter valuable. In case of any job failure, we get an alert over email. For jobs replicating from site A to site B, we know how long it will take to complete that replication. All that information is available in the console, and there aren't any difficulties or objections that need to be improved.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It allows us to easily take a Snapshot and use it with any backup tools."
"You can quickly deploy new virtual environments. It provides efficient and easy-to-use data protection. If a file goes missing or corruption occurs, you can restore it swiftly using the snap restore feature, allowing you to return to work almost immediately."
"The backup features are the most valuable because they allow the DBAs to replace SnapManager for Oracle (SMO), which is going away, and to do cloning as well. We can also clone to different servers and have the actual backup clone mounted on different servers. And we can split easily too."
"Being able to add everything in as resource groups is a valuable feature... Having all the SQL servers put into specific buckets, based on their year of release - 2008, 2012, 2014 - allows us to get almost immediate backups that are easily seen and reported on."
"Because of the Role-Based Access Control, customers don't have to call our managed services representatives to do a restore, they can do it themselves; it's faster, easier, and more convenient."
"We have now gotten to 100 percent compliance in backing up all of our data, and it's regularly measurable: daily, weekly, and monthly."
"It's very helpful because SnapCenter is already integrated with VMware Snapshot, so it's very easy to use."
"It's a centralized, easy-to-use solution empowering RBAC management, monitoring, notifications, extensive logging, and backup schedules for standalone as well as groups of the same types of environments. The cloning capabilities accelerate development."
"Data Protector's granular recovery features make it easy for us to create and restore backups in an understandable and user-friendly manner. With granular recovery, any database or even just a database table can be restored at will."
"If others have a similar environment like we do, then I would suggest this solution for them."
"The installation was simple and provided an easy way to install even on Unix servers. It has excellent features like deduplication."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to recover individual files."
"It's a good product that's pretty easy to use."
"Data Protector allows us to improve our SLA in successful backups and the reporting tools integrated with our management console make possible 99% backup success in our clients."
"Overall, when compared with other restore solutions, I can say most of the good features are packed inside a software that has a small footprint."
"The stability of the product seems to be quite good."

Cons

"The reporting could be better. It's good, but reporting of the jobs could be better."
"The GUI is still so-so. I' don't use the GUI that often anymore because it's really slow, refreshing disks, refreshing hosts, and you have to click a lot."
"NetApp technical support is struggling. I feel there is definitely room for improvement in tech support."
"I'm waiting for SnapCenter for hybrid solutions. Right now, we only have SnapManager for hybrid. I need agents for that. People are looking to install SnapCenter in a SQL environment, but where they're running SQL on Hyper-V and using virtual files. Currently, we don't have support for hybrid."
"The compatibility with other manufacturers, like Oracle and Hyper-V, could be improved. I would like to see it be more compatible with other software."
"The documentation could be a little bit better so that we could handle more of the troubleshooting ourselves, rather than having to go through support."
"The product lags in terms of availability."
"SnapCenter could improve its integration with other backup solutions, such as Veeam."
"The scheduler setup could be better. We are facing some issues scheduling the job based on our requirements."
"It's very expensive compared to Veeam and other similar solutions."
"I think the GUI needs a vast overhaul."
"The online backups of Office 365 have room for improvement."
"It works with virtual machines, but it's way too complex right now."
"I don't use it today on a regular basis, but there are always feature improvements that our customers are looking for, such as more integration from an API perspective with different applications and cloud platforms."
"We have so many specific technological cracks in Micro Focus, but we are not getting the features, facilities, or coordination between the global delivery centers and the R&D team that we need to express our ideas."
"Hyper-V backups need improvement so they can do GRE."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing is very good because if you already have NepApp controllers, then it's included."
"The licensing is well-designed because it's already included in some packages with NetApp storage. Therefore, for most customers, it's okay as the SnapCenter license is already included in some NetApp bundles."
"We have a site license, so it comes with the product."
"We see a financial value with SnapCenter because we don't have to license Commvault, which is pretty expensive."
"It comes free with the amount of equipment we purchase from NetApp. In terms of pricing, zero is my favorite number."
"The product is inexpensive."
"It's free. The license is included with other NetApp products."
"The license for SnapCenter was included with the storage array."
"In Data Protector, if you need extra features, you need to buy the agents for these features. Some of the features are Terabytes, some of them are agents. There's some complexity in the pricing and licensing."
"There is a perpetual license involved in addition to support which needs to be renewed annually."
"The license for the solution is very expensive compared to the other products in the market."
"It is more affordable compared to other vendors."
"Pricing for Micro Focus Data Protector is reasonable."
"The licensing structure provides cost savings to business."
"The product is cheaper than Commvault."
"The licensing cost is too high."
