The UCMDB Tool is easy to manage IT assets and is auto-discovery features; But for ease of use the tool proper it needs to be documented in detailed fashion.
Based on my experience with the UCMDB tool, I have faced challenges while discovering servers (nodes). We need to define the IP list for discovery in RTSM and run jobs. However, over time, whenever new assets are added, we must manually add the new IPs in RTSM and run the jobs again. From the agent's perspective, we need to provide the Data Flow Probe IP. This can be done in one of two ways: we install the agent at the server (node) level, define the IP of the Data Flow Probe, and then our Data Flow Probe will capture the data from the agent and send it back to UCMDB. This method allows us to eliminate the step of manually adding the IPs in RTSM. In a dynamic production environment where changes are continuous, we need to stay updated on new servers (nodes). Ideally, the auto-discovery feature should automatically detect the new CIs (nodes/servers) in the environment and notify the IT personnel. This process could be achieved without the need for agents, or with a one-time agent setup.

Continuous risk-based monitoring has strengthened incident response and vulnerability prioritization
I haven't explored Qualys VMDR's vulnerability lifecycle automation yet. One of my analysts mentioned that queries lack grouping operators in Qualys VMDR. From my experience, I would appreciate improvements in the query options in Qualys VMDR, specifically in the query-building process where I would need more features and operators. Additionally, we have been facing issues with Qualys on the cloud level. We cannot download the configuration profile from the cloud agent, and it is showing a pending action for download. During 2025, we noticed outages of Qualys a couple of times. I want to mention that there is an issue with receiving timely RCA deliveries. While this is not necessarily about the tool, it relates to support. The support has not been very responsive, and we are receiving RCAs a little delayed whenever we raise support cases or communicate with the TAMs. Additionally, the UI has a slight latency, which I and my team have experienced. They have also reported this latency issue when navigating through different pages.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The auto-discovery feature is great."
"It's a governance oriented tool with a very good data model."
"Large telcos with a history of mergers and acquisitions will benefit from this technology by discovering exactly which components are located where in their data centers, how they're connected and what their status is, facilitating consolidation and transformation of data center infrastructures as well as reducing mean time to resolution in case of incidents."
"This product discovers, maps and reports information about our configuration on a daily basis and is capable of being our source of truth for audit purposes."
"Micro Focus UCMDB is built for stability and is the only solution which can support up to 60 million CIs."
"It scales easily with future expansion."
"The product is easy to set up."
"The ability to use it as our single source of truth, feeding in from multiple sources and uploading into various Service Management toolsets, not just Micro Focus ones."
"The top one for me is that the vulnerabilities are kept up to date."
"It allowed us to divide tasks easily among teammates, significantly improving efficiency."
"Monitors workstations and servers for vulnerabilities and creates reports."
"Qualys VM's best features are vulnerability management and customizable scoring."
"Overall, this is a good product and I recommend it, mainly because of the capabilities and the management using a single console."
"I find the most valuable features are the continuous monitoring. Even on premises, there is constant monitoring."
"What I like best about this product is that it does what it is supposed to do, which is vulnerability scanning."
"The most valuable feature is the vulnerability assessment."

Cons

"Some of the UI could always be improved, but that is personal taste."
"Mobile/iPad Apps version of the UCMDB Browser would be a step ahead, which should have features, like viewing CI information, ownership, etc."
"The implementation could be simplified. It is very complex and should be for a mature organization."
"Improve the GUI and documentation."
"The page loading is very slow."
"Making it simpler to set up and understand would be a big improvement."
"Can be rather expensive to implement (for smaller companies)- can be support intensive - requires a lot of project resources to push toward implementation - requires a number of people to operate- as game changing technology requires a mature IT service organization, numerous resources for project management, design, implementation, evangelization - requires serious upper echelon management backing (sponsorship)"
"When we work in an environment, the production environment continuously changes and at that time we should have knowledge about the new server (node). However, the auto-discovery part should automatically discover the new CI (node/servers) in an environment and inform the IT person."
"The tool needs to improve the adding assets and report generation features. I would like to see the policy scan of offline appliances in the product's future releases."
"Maybe the reporting features. It is too granular, so that if someone new wants to get familiar with it, they will have a hard time."
"The user interface (UI) is quite complicated."
"Qualys VMDR identifies vulnerabilities and suggests fixes. However, it does not automate patching unless the patch management module is purchased separately."
"Its integration with ServiceNow and other similar products is complicated and can be improved."
"It is more expensive vs. other products on the market."
"The IoT scan is not great and we would like to see some improvements to it."
"Finding things in management can be quite difficult."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is competitive."
"Compared with other solutions, I would say that it's more expensive especially since we have an on-premise version and an older implementation."
"The solution is costly."
"It's very expensive, especially if you want to use multiple modules of Qualys."
"The pricing is very competitive."
"Qualys VM is reasonably priced."
"It is a high cost product. Compared to the other solutions, it is around 15 to 20% higher in cost."
"In Nigerian Naira, we spend about roughly four to five million to use this solution and this is expensive compared to solutions like Nessus."
"There are no additional fees in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"We do see over $100,000 in terms of price, for mid-size programs. You likely will pay more than $100,000 without any discount. It is a bit pricey."
