Robust and secure servers with excellent service
Pros and Cons
  • "We are very satisfied with Dell in terms of servers and service. We are happy with Dell servers. They are aligned with our services. They are robust."
  • "I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a ten out of ten."
  • "When interacting with customer support, it defaults to Arabic because of our region. However, most of the experts here are not familiar with Arabic. We would like English as an alternative language for easy interaction."
  • "After the expiration of support, it is sometimes challenging to find parts like hard drives, especially for obsolete models."

What is our primary use case?

We have a production setup in a factory for some of our services. The server can be a database server, file server, or even the Active Directory. We have multiple applications running on these servers, and we are very satisfied with these servers.

We are mostly using the 600 series.

How has it helped my organization?

Dell is certainly innovating. With the latest servers and technologies, I believe they are well aligned with the current need for AI solutions and the market demand.

We receive regular firmware updates ensuring security. We are quite satisfied with the updates and security. Dell also offers the Dell Assist feature which automatically keeps updating to the latest version available on the Dell website.

We have not experienced any security incidents or vulnerabilities with these servers.

These servers have been robust throughout their lifespan of five years, but I have observed that they work well even beyond that. Some companies continue using models that are expired because they have no reason to replace them based on the expiry date of the hardware.

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have had a positive impact on our organization's sustainability goals. We are very satisfied with these servers as well as with their service. Good service has a big impact on the product as well. If you have a good product but do not get good service, it creates a negative experience. Both need to be there.

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have helped to reduce unplanned production downtime by about 25%.

OpenManage console has an excellent user interface to configure and use servers effectively. It is a nice tool, but we are not utilizing it much. My understanding is that it is going to be discontinued.

What is most valuable?

We are very satisfied with Dell in terms of servers and service. We are happy with Dell servers. They are aligned with our services. They are robust. So far, we have found Dell to be the best vendor. Everything works fine and upgrades are also timely. They are also always innovating.

What needs improvement?

When interacting with customer support, it defaults to Arabic because of our region. However, most of the experts here are not familiar with Arabic. We would like English as an alternative language for easy interaction.

Additionally, after the expiration of support, it is sometimes challenging to find parts like hard drives, especially for obsolete models.

They are moving from OMSA to iDRAC, but iDRAC is complex, requiring additional plugin tools. These requirements make it a bit complicated. Other vendors are better in this aspect. They should provide a better way of access.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been with my company for nine years, and we have been using Dell PowerEdge Servers since then.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is robust and flexible. It continues to work with the same performance even after the end of support.

It works well and does not need much downtime for maintenance. There is a feature to update the server while it is running, so there is no need to restart. It improves production performance.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is quite easy to scale. It has impacted the flexibility of our operations in a good way.

How are customer service and support?

We are very satisfied with the professional support. The language support can be better. Other than that, it is good. I would rate them a nine out of ten.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have been using Dell for more than 15 years. We initially used IBM and then HP for a short period. HP had some service issues, which led us to move back to Dell. We chose Dell because of the service and robustness of the server.

How was the initial setup?

Deployment is quite easy with Dell because it has a life cycle feature. This single module helps in configuration from the initial phase. That is one of the best features.

What about the implementation team?

We have an in-house team for deployment. We mainly rely on partners for purchases, but we have technical experts within our organization.

What was our ROI?

The ROI of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is quite good. If rated out of five, I would say four.

It is hard to measure the total cost of ownership because we have a distributed environment. We have multiple offices and the budget is split.

What other advice do I have?

We are at an entry level in terms of using AI. We are looking into automating things and making our process more efficient. We have not run any AI workloads on Dell PowerEdge servers. Data security is our main concern when it comes to AI. For implementing AI, we need to consider the security and auditing aspects.

I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Reliable infrastructure has supported long-term ai-driven data analysis and automated edge workloads
Pros and Cons
  • "The trend towards Dell PowerEdge R-Series is due to economic aspects, reliability, maintainability, and delivery times, which are also significant factors."
  • "There are sometimes challenges with maintenance renewal, particularly with responsiveness, which sometimes takes a long time before we get feedback."

What is our primary use case?

Dell PowerEdge R-Series plays a role in my company's AI initiatives. For example, it is involved in AI-driven data analysis and automation like edge computing.

What is most valuable?

I don't find specific features of Dell PowerEdge R-Series particularly valuable, and I have no comment on that. The improvement Dell PowerEdge R-Series has brought to my company is reliability.

What needs improvement?

I have no comment on which areas Dell PowerEdge R-Series could still be improved, as I don't know.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge R-Series for 10 years or longer, starting at Vodafone with my current employer and having prior experience with it for 20 years at previous companies.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I am not aware of any crashes, downtime, or performance issues with Dell PowerEdge R-Series, as none are known.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I can't say much about the expansion of applications with Dell PowerEdge R-Series, but it seems to be working quite well and it works.

How are customer service and support?

I rate Dell support as good. On a scale from one to ten, I would say nine. There are sometimes challenges with maintenance renewal, particularly with responsiveness, which sometimes takes a long time before we get feedback.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used a different solution before Dell PowerEdge R-Series in parallel, such as Hewlett Packard Enterprise, or HPE. We did switch to Dell PowerEdge R-Series, so it's moving more and more towards Dell rather than merely adding it.

What was our ROI?

I have not seen a return on investment because we don't use them until they stop working. Instead, we do a refresh when the systems reach end-of-support or even earlier since we work on end-customer projects. Internal IT handles it differently, and for end-customer projects, there is always a defined lifecycle—such as three years, four years, or longer. Then we do a hardware refresh, if necessary, or not. If the end customer no longer needs the infrastructure or desires something new, then it will be replaced.

What other advice do I have?

The trend towards Dell PowerEdge R-Series is due to economic aspects, reliability, maintainability, and delivery times, which are also significant factors. I consider the pricing and licensing of Dell PowerEdge R-Series to be at market standard. For Dell in general, I would rate it a nine on a scale from one to ten. The challenges regarding responsiveness occur because we submit it, and then it goes to the UK, where our contact person is, who then forwards it. It would be beneficial as a suggestion for improvement to have a portal where you simply enter the serial number to request support renewal or anything else via the workflow. I rate this review a nine out of ten overall.

Cutting-edge management features and exceptional support streamline operations
Pros and Cons
  • "The feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers that I value the best is the iDRAC, as it is extremely good and simplifies tasks."
  • "The feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers that I value the best is the iDRAC, as it is extremely good and simplifies tasks."
  • "The only aspect that could be improved is the price."
  • "The only aspect that could be improved is the price. The product is extremely good, so it is always priced high."

What is our primary use case?

My company's use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is that we use it internally for our office purpose and also we resell it to our customers.

How has it helped my organization?

The features of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have benefited our organization as they simplify the IT manager's job. It gives them entire visibility of the device which enables them to keep growing their applications or data, and it basically simplifies the IT manager's jobs.

What is most valuable?

The feature of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers that I value the best is the iDRAC, as it is extremely good and simplifies tasks. It is very rigid and very durable, which is why most people continue buying these servers on a regular basis.

Dell has supported growth and operational success within those companies we resell to through the backend support, which is extremely good. Dell is the only organization now that has products from clients to storage, networking, and all data center devices. There is no other organization in the market which has all these products.

Dell makes it extremely easy for customers to buy. They get one-on-one support for all products. The support has been extremely good compared to other brands. AI is something very new, and Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are currently coming up with integrated GPUs for AI, which are getting implemented now. There is a lot of demand in the market, and customers keep asking for it.

What needs improvement?

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are already the best, and there is nothing new that I would suggest to improve. The only aspect that could be improved is the price. The product is extremely good, so it is always priced high. To improve product sales, reducing the price would help.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for the past 10 years. I have been a Dell employee, so I have been using it for more than 15 years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers scale with the growing needs of organizations as the solution is built with scalability options. As long as your data or application requires scalability, the PowerEdge already has the feature which helps to scale.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and technical support from Dell is extremely good. That has been the biggest plus point of Dell and one of the biggest reasons for it to have a good market share.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

It's extremely easy to deploy Dell. The products have been made in such a way that it's user-friendly, and it's extremely easy to implement.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In terms of pricing and licensing for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, what can be done is stocking the servers with distributors as much as possible to bring down the price, similar to what other OEMs do.

Dell is more expensive since it has more B2B orders compared to HP or Lenovo who focus on stock and sell business. This helps them to bring down the price.

Additionally, the sourcing of spare parts could be streamlined better to reduce the price.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I do sell other solutions, such as HP and Lenovo, and Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have been far better compared to the others in durability and support, except for the price.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers eight out of ten. It is a bit expensive compared to others.

Pros and Cons
  • "It's required for our business. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers benefit our organization as we build satellites and use images from Earth to check the planet's health and constellation for telecommunication purposes."
  • "I believe Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers can grow with our business."
  • "Being in Belgium, which is a small country, we might be considered too small for Dell since we only have 40 Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. This sometimes affects our ability to receive deployment support."
  • "Being in Belgium, which is a small country, we might be considered too small for Dell since we only have 40 Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. This sometimes affects our ability to receive deployment support."

What is our primary use case?

Our use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is data storage and computing for satellite images and AR picture generation.

What is most valuable?

It's required for our business. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers benefit our organization as we build satellites and use images from Earth to check the planet's health and constellation for telecommunication purposes. Our company is very young, with eight satellites in space, and we are still building the company.

What needs improvement?

Being in Belgium, which is a small country, we might be considered too small for Dell since we only have 40 Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. This sometimes affects our ability to receive deployment support.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for ten years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've 300 people in our organization. I believe Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers can grow with our business. Our company has a megafactory for satellites, making us the biggest company in Europe for satellites and the third in the world. Dell can support us in growing the company and developing our IT infrastructure.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service is excellent, but we don't always get deployment support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used HPE servers previously.

How was the initial setup?

It's very easy to deploy Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate other solutions besides Dell when we were looking because our IT manager had previous experience with Dell, and we continued with that decision.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Flexibility and performance boost private cloud operations
Pros and Cons
  • "Overall, I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers ten out of ten."
  • "The dispatch services are outsourced to small and medium companies, so we don't get consistent support."

What is our primary use case?

Our use case for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is as a private cloud. We have three products: utility computing where we use servers for bare metal configuration for our customers, private cloud, and integration of private cloud with hyperscalers.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are its flexibility and performance of the servers which are very good. I have been using PowerEdge for almost 25 to 30 years in my server rooms and data centers. I trust them more than other products because I have been managing not just data centers but also the internal IT of Tech Mahindra. I have been seeing a lot of improvements in Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as we progress forward.

What needs improvement?

Onsite support can improve hands and feet as we progress forward, but the remote site support is very good. The dispatch services are outsourced to small and medium companies, so we don't get consistent support.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using PowerEdge for a very long time, and I have been using it for almost 25 to 30 years in my server rooms and data centers.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We want to see what the approach is on generative AI as we move forward. On AI, we need to understand how this is going to scale, as AI is a different animal altogether.

How are customer service and support?

I evaluate the customer service and support for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as good; it has been good, and we don't find any problems.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

What other advice do I have?

We are using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for AI initiatives as we move forward because we have developed infrastructure as code for our customers, and we are bringing generative AI and writing LLMs for that. We will definitely be using our systems for that in our data centers, GPU as a service.

Overall, I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Keeps running for years without any issues and fits well in our environment
Pros and Cons
  • "It is a stable server. I have never faced any failure with these servers. They keep running for at least five to seven years without any issues."
  • "I have never faced any failure with these servers."
  • "They should reduce its size. Because the CPU power is more now, they can reduce the size of the servers. Currently, we have a 2U server. If possible, they can make a 1U server."
  • "They should reduce its size. Because the CPU power is more now, they can reduce the size of the servers."

What is our primary use case?

We have VMware with 2 node servers and almost 20 virtual machines. We have in-house software and an HR and finance application running on it. It works fine for handling diverse applications.

We are using the FX2 chassis, which is a small setup. We have a small environment with very few servers.

How has it helped my organization?

Our environment is small, and it fits our environment. For our requirements, it is working fine.

We have protection with secure firmware of Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers. We have not experienced any security incidents or vulnerabilities with our PowerEdge servers.

It reduces our downtime because it has been working fine. There has never been any failure. I have used HPE servers previously, and we had issues related to rebooting, power supply failure, etc. Our Dell PowerEdge Server is working fine. There is no failure.

We use OpenManage Enterprise software. It gives us an advantage in rebuilding a new server. We can build templates and use the same templates to deploy new servers. There is no manual work.

What is most valuable?

It is a stable server. I have never faced any failure with these servers.  They keep running for at least five to seven years without any issues.

What needs improvement?

They should reduce its size. Because the CPU power is more now, they can reduce the size of the servers. Currently, we have a 2U server. If possible, they can make a 1U server.

If they can provide more disk slots in one server, that would be good for the environment. Sometimes a BIOS upgrade fails, or something unexpected can happen.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for the last 15 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I never faced any failure in the last four to five years. It is a reliable product. Not even one server has failed so far.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We are using the FX2 chassis with two node servers. Two slots are still free. We can add new servers at any time, so the scale-out option is there. The RAM increment option is also there. We can add a lot of RAM there.

How are customer service and support?

I encountered issues a few times, and they resolved them within the time frame.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were HPE customers for ten years. We switched to Dell EMC products about ten years ago. We have VNX storage, xUnity, data domains, tape libraries, and PowerEdge Servers. About 90% of my existing infrastructure is from Dell EMC.

We chose Dell PowerEdge Servers because they are well-known servers. They are the core products of Dell. I love EMC products. They were acquired by Dell. It is almost a similar technology.

How was the initial setup?

Due to built-in software, it is easy to deploy and easy to manage.

What about the implementation team?

When we purchase new servers, partners are responsible for deployment. However, after the initial deployment, it is our responsibility to manage them.

I have tier-one partners like Condo Protego, Cloudbox, GPM, and GBM. We are working with these partners. They have the capability to design the solution, but not all partners are equal.

We did not work with Dell's Professional Services because our environment is not a very big environment. It is an expensive service and not required for our business.

What was our ROI?

It keeps running and does not create any problems. There are no hardware or power supply failures. It has been good for our business.

What other advice do I have?

We are at an initial stage in our AI journey. We have not tried to run any AI workloads on our PowerEdge Servers. Our business environment is a bit different, and at the moment, we do not require much AI for our business.

I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers an eight out of ten.

Improves virtualization workflows and supports long-term business growth through flexible deployment and valuable remote management features
Pros and Cons
  • "The complete package we get from Dell makes work easier; it is not just the handling of the devices, but also the support and if there are ever problems."
  • "For products that are not part of the premium support package, it is a bit more tedious."

What is our primary use case?

There are countless use cases for Dell PowerEdge R-Series. It is really difficult because Dell PowerEdge R-Series can be used in so many ways. For example, in our case, we build virtualization clusters very nicely with them.

How has it helped my organization?

Dell PowerEdge R-Series has definitely improved and facilitated our work. It is much easier to handle than competing products. You need to invest less time.

Dell PowerEdge R-Series has contributed to growth and business success, especially in small companies. The complete package we get from Dell makes work easier; it is not just the handling of the devices, but also the support and if there are ever problems. Dell is very well positioned there.

Dell PowerEdge R-Series has specific features that are particularly helpful for small and medium businesses; the flexibility is definitely a big point.

What is most valuable?

In terms of features I have found most valuable compared to other manufacturers, I would definitely say iDRAC. The iDRAC interface and the updates that can be deployed through it are particularly valuable examples.

What needs improvement?

Compatibility issues are areas where Dell PowerEdge R-Series could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have had Dell PowerEdge R-Series for three years now, and we have been using it for a really long time. We just removed the older ones that were installed for maybe five years or so, making it six years total.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have had minor failures, but nothing dramatic. The issues were resolved by Dell support.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Dell products grow with my needs. If we have other requirements, Dell usually has the right solution ready.

How are customer service and support?

We switched because of the flexibility of the systems; we can tailor them to what we currently need, and the complete package from consultation to purchasing to support if something fails is great. Compared to competitors, you just do not get that.

On a scale from 1 to 10, I would rate Dell support an eight.

For products that are not part of the premium support package, it is a bit more tedious.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before Dell PowerEdge R-Series, we used various HPE solutions.

What other advice do I have?

I am involved in working with Dell PowerEdge R-Series very directly on a daily basis. I would rate this review a 9.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Virtualization has become reliable and cost-efficient with strong remote management support
Pros and Cons
  • "The biggest benefit in the product is mainly because Dell PowerEdge R-Series is a well-known company with very good support."

What is our primary use case?

We use classical servers for multi-purpose virtualization.

    What is most valuable?

The biggest benefit in the product is mainly because Dell PowerEdge R-Series is a well-known company with very good support. The price is much better compared to other vendors such as HP, which is high priced and offers no better quality. From a price-performance perspective, we get most of what Dell or Lenovo offers.

Remote management stands out as one of the best capabilities for us.

    What needs improvement?

The prediction of hardware error using some AI tools could still be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Dell PowerEdge R-Series for some ten to twelve years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Everything is satisfactory. I do not see any disadvantages. It is more that in the current market, you have to wait a little bit longer because of memory availability. The market is such that now you cannot get them as soon as you wish, but if you plan the purchases, then it is acceptable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate scalability as excellent. If you make the right purchase, then you can scale as you want.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate customer support as excellent.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We replaced HP with Dell PowerEdge R-Series.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy.

    What about the implementation team?

We are a very small company and do not work with many vendors.

    What was our ROI?

I would say we have achieved stability in operation. We will not grow by using Dell PowerEdge R-Series, but we have achieved stability.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have Lenovo, Dell PowerEdge R-Series, and HP.

What other advice do I have?

We are an end-user. There are no special features. If you purchase the right servers or the right solution, then everything is satisfactory. It is nothing special; it is just a server. I cannot think of anything that is not perfect. Everything is acceptable. I would rate this review a ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
