Oracle Application Testing Suite Reviews

We use the solution to help automate our test cases. What we used to do was get manual test cases from the manual testers. They would provide step-by-step descriptions of what application to test and how to launch it, as well as what needs to be tested. The applications were both web-based and Oracle Forms-based. These are the applications that need to be automated in order to be tested. The basic reason why automation was needed was to make this process faster and cheaper. The testers would provide us with test cases, and we would then perform those tests using Java code in a scripting tool. After scripting, we would put them into batch execution mode, or somewhere just from the command line we would trigger them. There was no need of sitting back there and seeing if the test cases were running fine or not. We only focused on the test results in HTML customized reports where we would monitor which test cases had been passed or failed and then we would report those particular test cases.

There are several advantages to using automation testing. First, it requires less maintenance. Automated tests are specifically targeted to find any bugs or issues in the code and quickly identify them. For example, one automation tester can do the job of ten manual testers. This is a cost-saving for resources.

OpenScript has many features that make it useful, including the ability to record and playback. For example, with Selenium, we used to have to inspect the path we needed to identify, but with OpenScript, we just click a button to record all our clicks, and it generates Java code automatically. When updates to the code are needed, we can do it manually using Java code. The best feature of this solution, compared to others, is that we do not need to worry about our test cases being executed in front of us. Even if we are sleeping or away from our computer, the solution will still run the tests and provide us with the results in the morning.

We had an issue where the image-based automation was not there. It was gone. Then after the review I gave and the coming releases, Oracle included that image-based automation as well. Oracle listens to its customers.

Oracle Application Testing Suite can improve by covering more browsers as compared to other solutions because they're considering the Edge browser as well, but the solution is working on different Windows operating platforms. For example, in our current Windows 2012 R2 server, if I want to automate the Edge browser, I need to upgrade that particular Windows to Windows 10.1 or some other Windows platform, because it's not supported in Windows 2012 feature. That is an issue. If cross-browsers can be incorporated, then support should be provided. There should be a single operating system where everything can be incorporated. 

I have faced issues with some indexing items. For example, the solution is able to derive some properties from the screen, such as button locations or text locations, but there are some elements, for example, unnamed buttons or text, where there is no name or ID or any other identifying information. Indexing doesn't always work, and we have to go to those elements manually and inspect them to determine their class, and then input that information into the system.

I have been using the solution for over six years now. Specifically, OpenScript which is one module of Oracle Application Testing Suite.

Overall, the solution is very reliable and stable. The applications that we are automating are fluent and it's just a one-time automation that is required unless there is no change in the application that we are automating. 

I give the stability an eight out of ten.

The solution is scalable, meaning that there are multiple tools that can be used within the solution itself. This allows for load testing and performance testing, among other new use cases. Currently, only functional testing, performance testing, and load testing are included. This leaves many possibilities for other types of testing that could be included.

I give the scalability a six out of ten.

I have worked with different organizations, so altogether, there are different teams. A ballpark figure of how many people are using the solution would be around 100, but within my current organization, we have ten users.

We are planning to recruit some automation testers so that we can make our solution useful for them as well. I am the only one and I require the team, so their skills will be beneficial to all of us.

The technical support is good. We submit tickets based on severity. When our issue is urgent they respond within 24 hours, but when the issue is low severity and does not affect service they can take their time to respond.

I have experience working with Selenium and I'm certified in Tricentis Tosca automation tools. Selenium is a basic version of automation tools that requires inspecting elements manually and passing on information to the solution. Oracle Application Testing Suite is above Selenium in terms of automation because it generates all the information automatically. Tosca is on a higher level again because it scans our screen and puts the code into the solution, which is quicker than Oracle Application Testing Suite.

The initial setup was easy and straightforward, much like installing any other solution. However, some additional manual setups were required once the solution was installed. These were more complex and challenging, but once we got the hang of them, installing the application was much easier.

We can install the solution and set up the issues ourselves if we are the user. However, if we are new to the application, we may need Oracle's support.

The deployment takes around one and a half days.

The initial implementation was completed in-house and if there were any issues after the deployment I would send a ticket to Oracle customer support.

The functional testing tool is free to use. The complete package, including load testing and performance analysis, has a licensing fee.

I give the solution an eight out of ten.

The solution doesn't require any maintenance, but the scripts we are automating do. Those scripts need to be updated frequently because the solution is getting updated. However, if we have set the solution up for the first time and we don't change those settings, then maintenance every three or four years should be fine. When we upgrade the tool, then our scripts need to be upgraded too. 

Oracle applications need automation, regardless of whether they are cloud-based or not. Oracle Forms applications need Oracle Application Testing Suite for compatibility. If our applications are only web-based and simple, Selenium is a good, free option.

I've been using this tool for both government and private projects. It's generally used in organizations that have implemented Oracle applications such as Business Suite or Oracle Fusion because of its forms-based structure. We are users but our partner company in Australia has a partnership with Oracle. I've been an Oracle consultant for 10 years and I'm a test architect. 

The solution helps our customers when it comes to doing automation. They may be running new patches every quarter and OATS automates those cases. We'll run automation scripts as a regression before each outreach patch which saves time. Previously they'd need to go through each and every flow manually. 

Application Testing Suite has a good interface with the Oracle application because of its accelerator libraries. There are three aspects of the tool; test management, automation, and performance. I've been working with this tool since the initial version came out and it has both automation and load-testing capabilities. Not many tools in the market have that capability, including LoadRunner or UFT. Having the two different kinds of nonfunctional testing happening in the same product is excellent and something that's not available elsewhere. OATS has good interconnectivity with Oracle applications. All of these can be automated using OATS because they share the same protocol. The solution has good accelerant libraries. I believe it's the best tool in the market and the only one that handles Oracle Forms.

The solution lacks patches for new OS systems and doesn't work on a Mac. There is very little support for operating systems other than Windows. In the next release, I'd like to see many more options for integrations with other technologies and tools like Jira or open-source tools that would enable better performance and convenience. I think they could also integrate the meters. It would be great if they would build this as a cloud platform. 

I've been using this solution for 10 years. 

We haven't had major stability issues although we've had cases where the client architecture has needed changing according to the protocol. 

It's not particularly scalable because it's not a cloud-based tool although it can be scaled vertically. 

We have a lot of support and have raised several SR level one requests with Oracle for our critical projects and they have been prompt and connected with us.

The initial setup is relatively simple. To work the tool requires a good grasp of Java and the workings of the tool. Deployment time is minimal for the tool but implementation depends on the specific case and critical scenarios that require performance testing. I'm an OATS consultant so we deploy in-house. Maintenance also depends on the kind of project. If it's a performance testing project, and you need people for scripting, it might require two people. There needs to be some understanding and experience of the tools and that could be a learning curve. 

I'm unaware of licensing fees but I believe it's on the higher side. I don't think it's as much as Micro Focus UFT. The cost really depends on how much you want to scale. The licensing is flexible.

This is a mature tool, it's been on the market for 11 years. With other solutions, we have to build everything from scratch, even a framework. OATS is very easy for us to install and use. I would recommend using OATS before other tools particularly if you are a test automation engineer or performance test engineer working with Oracle applications. Oracle provides full support. 

I rate this solution eight out of 10. 

We mainly use this solution for clients that are involved with Oracle ERP. There are some customers who have Oracle ERP, and they have some applications that aren't based on Oracle ERP. We use OATS for testing non-Oracle products. For a client that has non-Oracle or non-ERP products, we automate them using OATS.

You don't need to be in Oracle to use the tool. You have options to create types of scripts like web applications, Oracle applications, or EDF applications. 

Oracle has a vast amount of products. They have PeopleSoft, retail, and Fusion, so there are different types of scripts for everything. They give you an option to create different types of scripts. They enable a lot of flexibility for creating scripts for any applications in the market except desktop applications. For any web application, you can use Oracle for automation.

I like the functional testing. There's a product inside OATS called OLT, Oracle Load Testing. You can do the load testing without depending on any other tool. There's also Oracle Test Manager, which helps you maintain all of your test cases and requirements. It's a management tool for testing activities and development activities.

With Selenium, you have to use another tool for management, another tool for reporting, and another tool for load testing. OATS has everything. When you run a script, you get a report that shows that the test passed, and you don't need to build a framework for that. It's easy to use because they have already implemented all these things inside this suite. You don't need a lot of technical knowledge for this. 

In Selenium or any free tool on the market, you have to do a lot of setups and need to be a technical expert to use the tool.

We use the Oracle support team for OATS. If we have any issues, we try to create SR with Oracle and they try to fix issues or try to improve it. There's ongoing improvement, but I want the team to make it much quicker. If there's a feature we want in OATS that's missing and we report that to Oracle, it takes a long time. Sometimes, we have to keep following up. Sometimes it's quick, but many times it keeps delaying the timeline. Because of that, customers wait for the next release of OATS.

The release timeframe and support team should be quicker when releasing new updates and new features.

They were using Internet Explorer as the main browser, but now they're switching to Edge or Chrome. There's compatibility, but the tool is easier to use with Internet Explorer than with Chrome. You can use Chrome, but there's some complexity. The setup on Chrome is a bit challenging.

I have used this solution for about nine years.

The product is quite stable. I started using it in 2012. Prior to that, it wasn't that stable.

I would rate the scalability as eight out of ten. It uses Java, and it gives you a feature so that you can attach the JAR file to your tool and run it from there. It gives you the capability of modifying the framework or tools. If you're good at Java and you have strong programming knowledge, you can work with that aspect also.

For testing, lots of tools in the market have limitations. If you take a customer who has a vast amount of applications, they have to use at least two tools to cover all of the test cases and applications. There isn't a single tool in the market that will solve everything. We do not have a testing tool like that right now.

If you have Selenium, it cannot automate Oracle forms. Java uses Oracle for developing their forms. You can't document using Selenium because Selenium doesn't recognize those forms. If you use OATS, it's able to recognize them because everything is modularized.

I'm very satisfied with technical support because they use Webex to see what the issue is. You usually don't get that in any other tool. With Oracle, technical support is really good.

It's very easy to set up Oracle because it's a one-time installation. To install it, you should have admin rights, like any other tool. Once you have that, it's quite easy to do the setup because everything is done automatically. If there are some standard errors after installation of the tool, you can fix them easily. I think I have installed 50 products with different customers.

I would rate the setup as nine out of ten. Anyone can install the tool. They don't need knowledge of Java or technical knowledge.

Customers need to negotiate properly to get the tool at a lower price. It's important that customers know that they can get this product from Oracle easily if they have bigger business with Oracle.

I would rate the solution as eight out of ten. My advice is that if a company doesn't have a lot of technical capability, then they need to hire someone for the setup.

When you buy OATS, they also provide a product called Oracle Flow Builder as part of a bundle. They already have business flows stitched and everything. You provide your data and it will start running and doing all the testing.

If you have Selenium, you need a technical team because of the reporting and inbuilt features. You need a technical person to do all the setup for the framework. If some changes are needed, it won't work. You'll need to change everything, including reporting. Selenium isn't that stable, but you need to continuously work on Selenium if you want to do testing.

We're using this integration with OBIEE. We use these applications for uploading, testing, and for obtaining and understanding how our business intelligence application works. We are golden partners with Oracle and I am a solution architect.

The graphics are very intuitive and it's very easy to get scale of development.

I think that licensing policies could be more intuitive; when we installed this application for the first time, we couldn't understand why there were only two users. We discovered that we needed to purchase additional licenses but that wasn't clear. It would be very useful to see some proactive analytics and some trending because the application only shows statistics without any trending and forecasting. 

I've been using this solution for two years. 

We haven't had any issues in the two years we've used this solution. Our Windows terminal box is configured with the future hardware base so we haven't had performance issues.

Oracle always help us, and any ticket gets resolved. Sometimes it can take time to understand what the issue is, but they do very good work.

The initial setup was straightforward. We just installed Oracle XE and the application. I've deployed this solution 10 times in various places. The total deployment time is around an hour and a half. 

I suggest reading the documentation carefully and there won't be any problems.

I rate this solution seven out of 10.

We use the solution for functional testing. We have scenarios related to Oracle applications where we need to create a purchase order, for example, and we use it for the automation perspective. We use it for regression testing.

We currently have five projects that we are working on. Each project requires ten members. We have approximately 60 people using the solution. The teams are made up of leads, software developers, and engineers. The experience level is anywhere from intermediate to growth level.

The most valuable feature is the object identification feature, the recording feature is the prime feature that open script has. I also like the connectivity with Oracle Forms, it is very compatible.

I have heard that some support will not be provided by Oracle after June. Going forward, if there are any issues with the tool, or if the recording feature with Edge is not available, there is Chrome, IE, and Firefox, however, IE is already decommissioned because of security concerns. I would like the solution to record the Edge browser.

In future releases, I would like Oracle to scan only one particular application and to make sure that all the elements are recorded in it. This way, we only have to change minor details.

I have been using Oracle Application Testing Suite for five years.

Oracle Application Testing Suite does encounter some lag. When I am trying to record something, the tool gets stuck.

The solution is able to record various web-based applications, including Tableau which uses its own flex framework and imaged-based recording is available. It is a very scalable tool.

We have raised tickets to Oracle Application Testing Suite technical support. Depending on the severity and what we require from Oracle, they are always receptive. Support is very good.

Before Oracle Application Testing Suite we were using UFT. We chose Oracle because we also use Oracle Forms. The two solutions are very compatible.

I have been doing the setup for many years, so it is easy for me. We also have the documentation available, making it quite easy to set up.

It takes a total of one hour to set up, including installations of Java versions and Chrome browser.

We install Oracle Application Testing Suite ourselves in-house.

We have looked into Tosca. Tosca only scans the particular application and all the elements are recorded onto it. We then only have to change minor details. 

Personally, I also looked at POC and Selenium for the web application. Selenium can be integrated and has many add-ons that can be added, like customized reports. However, we need to work with Oracle Forms and Selenium cannot automate this.

Any organization looking to use Oracle Application Testing Suite needs to understand the kind of application they want to automate. If it's automatable, or if it's a web application, I would suggest open source tools like Selenium.

If you want to use Oracle Application Testing, which has a number of features, then it can be helpful. It will record, and deal with the performance testing and load testing.

I would rate the solution a six and a half out of ten.

This tool will only work for Oracle EBS, for Oracle ERP financials applications.

For the ERP applications, our QA team had challenges running their testing process before this tool. When there are no changes on the system, what our QA does, is when you open this Application Testing Suite tool, we'll record all our test scenarios. For example, how many. If we're at 200 or 300, it doesn't matter. This tool helps us to record all the testing areas. All we need to do is open the application, do whatever we need to do, and this testing tool will get everything recorded.

Let's say we deployed an acute patch and application. After that, whatever recordings we did, we'll run the tool, and those recordings will navigate the same navigation without human interaction. It'll generate a report showing that one of the test cases is fake.

The Oracle Application Testing Suite comes with different items. Open Script is there. So is OTM, Oracle Testing Manager, and Oracle Application Administrator. There is a flow builder as well. Everything we need is here. 

The solution is scalable. 

It's stable and reliable.

Technical support is helpful. 

This tool must be developed to ensure it works in all operating systems. For example, there is no Open Script for Linux. Open Script is available only for Windows right now.

It needs to be compatible with all browsers. That way, whenever we launch an application, it should have compatibility automatically.

The solution can be difficult to set up. 

I've been using the solution for more than nine years.

It's quite stable. With the Oracle components, we don't need to worry about stability, scalability, and flexibility. Everything is reliable. I'd rate the stability very high.

The scalability is very good. I'd rate it nine out of ten. There's no issue with scaling. 

We have more than 2,000 users on the solution currently.

At this moment, we do not have plans to increase usage.

Technical support is good. When we installed the Oracle Application Testing Suite, they gave us the option to create a case with support. We collected all the log files that were needed and generated a zip file, we uploaded the zip file to the support team, and they were able to assist. They made everything very easy. 

To my knowledge, we did not use any other tool. 

At this moment, the product is a little bit complex. It's not straightforward to set up.

Right now, it's only on-premises. There is no cloud. However, we can integrate with the cloud. The installation and everything will need to be done on-prem only. There is no "go to the cloud and launch it" option.

There are different components to the setup. If a person sits down and continuously works on it, it will be up and running in three business days.

We handled the initial setup on our own. 

We have witnessed a positive ROI.

Licensing-wise, they'll come back and set a price based on CPU, CORE, or users. In the end, it doesn't matter.

We did not evaluate other tools at the time. 

I would recommend this tool as long as your company can afford the pricing.

I'd advise new users to understand the flow. There are components in the Oracle Testing Suite that users need to be very familiar with. It's not just, "Click on .EXE file." They need to be aware of how this tool works. If needed, I'd advise new users spend some time going through the learning documentation and understanding the product. Don't just download and install it.

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten. It's a really good product.

We provide this product as a demo solution to clients who are designing, modifying and implementing applications, to allow them to test the install and changes before they are deployed.

We find the front-end interface of this solution to be very user-friendly, meaning easy navigation even for novice users.

We would like to see the instruction documentation made into video or audio formats, to help new users get used to the modules.

We would also like the customization of reports within the solution to be more user-friendly, like the user interface.

We have been working with this solution for seven years.

The stability of this solution is dependent on the applications that an organization has running. We have only ever experienced minimal downtime.

This is a very scalable solution.

The initial setup of this solution is easy for an experienced team, but may be slightly more complicated for those who are new to this type of product.

The speed of setup and deployment of this solution is based on the size and complexity of the organization implementing it. 

Depending on the size and complexity of the organization, this could take a few days or could take a few months, and will require a team to carry out the integrations.

We would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Oracle Application Testing Suite is used for automating.

Oracle Application Testing Suite's most valuable feature is it works very smoothly with all Oracle Java-based applications.

Oracle Application Testing Suite could improve by offering desktop-based application automation. It is lacking in this area at the moment.

I have been using Oracle Application Testing Suite for approximately seven and a half years. 

Oracle Application Testing Suite has been used for many years and it is highly stable.

I rate the stability of Oracle Application Testing Suite a nine out of ten.

Oracle Application Testing Suite is easy to scale. We can use multiple applications and use different scripts. The solution is highly scalable.

We have approximately 15 people using this solution in my organization.

We have raised tickets with Oracle for support. The support is the best. However, depending on the level of support that you have. If you have the 24/hour seven days week support, you will not have any issues with the support.

We have other solutions similar to Oracle Application Testing Suite, such as Automation Anywhere and UiPath. We found that Oracle Application Testing Suite is the best for form-based automation.

The initial setup of the Oracle Application Testing Suite is simple.

The price of the Oracle Application Testing Suite is not expensive. It is less expensive than other solutions.

My advice to others is if they are using any Oracle Cloud Fusion-based or on-premise-based application, this is a good solution to use.

I rate Oracle Application Testing Suite an eight out of ten.

We use OATS for Oracle Forms, for functional testing. It is integrated with several other Oracle products. Sometimes we use it on a daily basis, although it depends on the projects that are being worked on at the time. We also use it for training and development purposes.

The most valuable features are functional testing and the central repository that contains various scripts.

Apart from the dashboard, the interface is user-friendly.

The dashboards need to be simplified and made more user-friendly. This is the main improvement that I would like to see.

I have been using the Oracle Application Testing Suite for ten years.

This is a really stable solution.

It is easy to scale and we have had no issues with that. We have about 25 users.

We have been in contact with technical support a couple of times. They are very responsive and have been able to resolve our issues immediately.

We did not use another solution for functional testing, prior to this one.

The initial setup is very easy. Any person with minimal knowledge and install and deploy it.

The deployment will take approximately two hours.

The return on investment is very good.

There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.

Overall, Oracle Application Testing Suite is very easy to use and you can create a good framework for developing and testing. If the dashboard were improved then it would be perfect.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

We use the cloud deployment model for this solution. 

We like that we don't need a separate management tool. This is a good feature. It also has an inbuilt performance tool which is on Flash. It has very good record and playback features as well. The inspection tool is also very good. Overall, since it comes with all the three packages, it's very good.

It has a very good inbuilt reporting system.

There is no support for this particular tool and you don't have a very big knowledge base on Google. It should order the tests so that you can automatically write a path and test it on it. The object identification feature can be enabled and leveraged to other levels and there's some kind of knowledge base. These are the two main areas that need improvement.

The pathfinding at times is slow when we are using it. The tool's performance can be improved. 

The third thing, is the help and the support or the knowledge base needs improvement. Otherwise, it's overall a very good tool.

It should have proper integration with CI/CD tools or any plugins. There's good documentation with Jenkins or JIRA.

It should be a little more flexible like Selenium for the user to try with different locators or the different writing of XPath. The slowness can be identified and when we try to automate any internet, the application which can only be opened in Internet Explorer has some challenges.

It needs better automation. I think it is there but some enhancements should be done. Overall, it is a very good tool that is better than some other automation tools on the market. It supports various entrepreneur platform applications and applications developed with different coding background and it's all very good.

It's a stable one except for one or two incidents, it's stable. 

It has good scalability. It can integrate it with CI/CD tools and all those things. There is no inbuilt configuration or setups available to link it with other tools or scale it with other CI/CD tools. Those tools are lacking configuration abilities. It's a lack of knowledge from our side of the this because of the unavailability of the knowledge base. We haven't tried with different stops.

We have around seven or eight users using this solution. We require two staff members for the deployment and maintenance. 

I would rate their technical support 2.5 out of ten. 

I have only used Oracle. I didn't use a previous solution. 

It's really a very good tool. My advice to somebody considering this solution is to speak to the vendor, make sure to make your requirements clear and have clear answers from the vendor's side. Ask what support is available and what the scalability terms are and what features are available to integrate with CI/CD tools.

The tool is very good. There's no doubt about it so. In terms of the properties or object identification media, there could be some more or better documentation, a better knowledge base or better enhancements should be available.
