Optimizes IT efficiency and offers excellent technical support
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features in VMware Identity Manager for me are the control groups and rules."
- "I would like better integration for deploying programs with binary files."
What is our primary use case?

What is most valuable?
The most valuable features in VMware Identity Manager for me are the control groups and rules. They help ensure compliance by managing access lists, determining who can access specific locations, and assigning priority to different aspects of the tool.
What needs improvement?
In terms of improvement, I would like better integration for deploying programs with binary files. As for future releases, I hope to see features like seamless migrations with collaboration tools to simplify tasks, especially for devices like IP phones and Cisco Call Manager.

Techno Commercial Manager at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
An easy-to-use solution that offers its users of a single platform to manage all their devices
Pros and Cons
- "Sometimes, we face an issue and raise a ticket. The technical support team is fantastic and resolves the issue."
- "Pricing is a limitation. I think it's on the higher side, so if it were cheaper, it would benefit more organizations."
What is our primary use case?
The solution's use cases can vary depending on the organization. For example, we have deployed projects for BYOD, Mac Management, and Windows Management solutions. Each project is different and tailored to the specific needs of the organization. One of the benefits for our customers is the ease of use with a single platform to manage all devices. The dashboard is visually appealing and provides compliance insights for CIOs and CTOs to review.

How was the initial setup?
The setup process was not complex since my company mostly sells cloud-based instances, which means they are already pre-configured. We only need to configure the policies based on the use cases, and it works seamlessly. Therefore, the setup process is effortless. Additionally, the solution does not require any maintenance as it is a cloud instance, and all maintenance will be taken care of by VMware.
What was our ROI?
My company's customers have experienced a return on investment using the solution.

VMware products, in my opinion, is an exceptional product, and it allows for the management of a complete device fleet from a single console. President & Founder at a tech services company with 1-10 employees
It's good for providing consistency across complex environments
Pros and Cons
- "The bigger vendors like VMware, Insight, and MobileIron can assign engineers to customers. You can work with them to develop the right competency to use the product."
- "The bigger vendors like VMware, Insight, and MobileIron can assign engineers to customers. You can work with them to develop the right competency to use the product."
What is our primary use case?
I use Workspace ONE for my work with Homeland Security, but we're getting rid of it. VMware is the current mobile user platform for Homeland Security, specifically weapons of mass destruction. I've been consulting with them for the last four years, and I moved over to weapons of mass destruction four months ago.
They're switching from VMware to Intune, and I was concerned with the due diligence. They've made a decision. and I'm helping them make that transition so that they can properly integrate the state and local devices for detecting chemical, biological, and nuclear attacks.
I just know some people at VMware at the senior level, and I talk to them when necessary. Homeland Security wasn't using the product how they should and they didn't reach out to VMware to identify the holes in the processes or inadequacies of the application that could've been addressed.
The people in the weapons of mass destruction division didn't have the technical competencies to understand the software solutions, so they brought in a consulting company called Mobile Mentor, which is an Intune reseller. I told them that wasn't a reason to switch.
What needs improvement?
VMware Workspace ONE is like any other product. You need to work with the vendor's software engineers to get the features you need to support your infrastructure. They can provide the technical modifications to the software you need to support your environment.
For example, the Department of Defense has a peculiar IT infrastructure in terms of how they use SonicWall for mobile devices. If someone's using an Apple iPhone or an Android device, how do you partition it to support the mission? Public sector workers need to use a government cell because of the sensitive business they conduct on those devices. Mobile devices also include laptops and cell phones, creating more complexity.
The bigger vendors like VMware, Insight, and MobileIron can assign engineers to customers. You can work with them to develop the right competency to use the product.
What other advice do I have?
I rate VMware Workspace ONE eight out of 10.

Information Technology Infrastructure Manager at Gulf International Bank
Highly scalable, very good technical support, with competitive features
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features are the ones that control the leaking."
- "The application itself individuals are getting annoyed with it. They are looking to integrate with ABB applications regardless of whether it is Android or iOS based. We are wanting to shift from this application because of the integration issues we are facing."
What is our primary use case?
Our primary use case is to control the email services for mobile devices and we are controlling that just to avoid leakage of the information for those devices.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are the ones that control the leaking.
What needs improvement?
The application itself individuals are getting annoyed with it. They are looking to integrate with ABB applications regardless of whether it is Android or iOS based. We are wanting to shift from this application because of the integration issues we are facing.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with VMware Workspace ONE for the past three years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We currently have around one thousand end users.
How are customer service and support?
I have spoken with technical support many times. I would rate them an eight on a scale of one to ten.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is moderately complex. On a scale of one to five, I would rate that a five. The deployment time takes about seven months.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing currently is higher than the competition.
What other advice do I have?
It is based on the requirements. If he has Intune and has the Microsoft license already in place, it is based on those requirements, and based on the circumstances. But ultimately it is a good choice, I would not say it is a bad choice. I would rate VMware Workspace ONE an eight on a scale of one to ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Assistant Manager at KBSL Information Technologies
Easy to set up with good authentication integration but needs better technical support
Pros and Cons
- "The solution is stable."
- "The authentication integration is great; it can be combined with basically different kinds of authentication mechanisms and provide a single sign-on."
- "There are a lot of difficulties whenever people have a lot of configurations in it, basically related to security certificate configurations and integration with VMware Horizon."
- "There are a lot of difficulties whenever people have a lot of configurations in it, basically related to security certificate configurations and integration with VMware Horizon."
What is our primary use case?
A user can leverage the solution if they basically want to integrate the system with two-factor authentication or multifactor authentication to access desktops and sessions.
Users also leverage the access portal from a remote host and gain access to the system.
What is most valuable?
The authentication integration is great. It can be combined with basically different kinds of authentication mechanisms and provide a single sign-on. That's a typical use case that I see as a solution provider.
The solution is stable.
My understanding is it is not too hard to set up.
The solution can scale.
What needs improvement?
There are a lot of difficulties whenever people have a lot of configurations in it, basically related to security certificate configurations and integration with VMware Horizon. I see technical people are sometimes struggling to do this. I don't know whether it is some knowledge gap or whether it is the difficulty of the product. However, there have been some cases where we've had issues, and the knowledge is not ubiquitous. You cannot find it easily. Not many engineers have the right training or knowledge to deal with it correctly.
Technical support could be better.
It would be great if it had some sort of password wallet integrated within it.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been familiar with the solution for two or three years. I was a customer, and now I am a presales manager working as a reseller.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We've seen no issues with stability or reliability. It doesn't crash or freeze. It is reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
While I have never tried to scale the solution, and we don't have many requirements for that functionality, my understanding it can scale.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support could be better. Sometimes, when we raise a ticket, it takes time for the engineers to assist.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
I haven't actually been part of a live deployment. That said, it's my understanding that it is not that difficult. New users should be aware that integrating it with multiple other things will take time.
You only need one expert to handle the deployment since it's a one-time task. However, they need to be knowledgable to handle the process. In our case, we have two or three people who can handle deployment tasks.
What other advice do I have?
We are a reseller and a partner.
We are using an older version in a deployment right now.
I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.
If you have a use case and if you have VMware products already, it'll come along with some of the licenses, so you do not have to pay additional fees. That is one advantage. It'll also be easy to integrate with VMware Horizon, Horizon Stack Workspace, VMware Workspace One, and other related products.

Useful gateway tunnel, support multiple devices, and quick support
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature of VMware Workspace ONE is the support for multiple devices. Not only iOS, and Android, but all kinds of platforms, including VR device management. Additionally, it has a tunneling feature, which no other solution provides. Other solutions have to integrate with other tools to have this functionality, whereas VMware Workspace ONE has its own application gateway tunnel."
- "The most valuable feature of VMware Workspace ONE is the support for multiple devices, not only iOS and Android, but all kinds of platforms, including VR device management, and it also has a tunneling feature, which no other solution provides."
- "VMware Workspace ONE can improve in virtual reality. Customers are now looking toward virtual reality devices. Though it supports virtual reality, it's treated as an Android device. Customers want to deal with VR devices, they want a specific VR tool. Not an Android device VR tool."
- "VMware Workspace ONE can improve in virtual reality. Customers are now looking toward virtual reality devices."
What is our primary use case?
VMware Workspace ONE can be deployed in the cloud and on-premise.
The main use case for VMware Workspace ONE is for customers who are looking for a single tool for all their device management needs and have had limitations with respect to Mac specifically and virtual reality devices with other solutions such as Intune. They can move to VMware Workspace ONE, where they can have all kinds of support.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of VMware Workspace ONE is the support for multiple devices. Not only iOS, and Android, but all kinds of platforms, including VR device management. Additionally, it has a tunneling feature, which no other solution provides. Other solutions have to integrate with other tools to have this functionality, whereas VMware Workspace ONE has its own application gateway tunnel.
What needs improvement?
VMware Workspace ONE can improve in virtual reality. Customers are now looking toward virtual reality devices. Though it supports virtual reality, it's treated as an Android device. Customers want to deal with VR devices, they want a specific VR tool. Not an Android device VR tool.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using VMware Workspace ONE for approximately eight years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
VMware Workspace ONE is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of VMware Workspace ONE is good.
How are customer service and support?
The support of VMware Workspace ONE is good. When we opened a ticket we had a quick response.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment of VMware Workspace ONE is easy. The time it takes for the deployment depends on the environment totally. If it is only a small environment, with no integration, with the cloud instance, and no set of a separate instance or sub-component is required, it can be set up in approximately a week.
In the use case scenarios, for example, where there is an on-premise instance where there are unified access gateway components required, then it takes a little longer because the firewall ports and setting up the infrastructure will take some time.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution can be costly when the customer is dealing with multiple platforms. If a customer is only dealing with iOS, Windows, and Android then Intune is the better choice because there are free licenses.
What other advice do I have?
I suggest to others if they have multiple device platforms, especially in Apple and the VR device area. VMware Workspace ONE is the best tool where they can receive not only the VR and Mac support but in order to manage the Microsoft Windows devices as well, they will have good functionality.
I rate VMware Workspace ONE an eight out of ten.
