What is our primary use case?
I was using Acronis Cyber Protect that included the backup and usual device support and also EDR.
In this instance, my client was using Acronis Cyber Protect mainly for backups and then we ended up branching over to the EDR side of things where we were doing patch management and antivirus, but the primary usage was for backups.
What is most valuable?
The features of Acronis Cyber Protect are supposed to be targeting malware and anti-ransomware and also doing a sort of encryption between data sets when you're doing your backups. So while you're doing your backups, it also encrypts your backups and makes it safe, so it doesn't get affected with viruses and all of that.
What needs improvement?
The application itself is a bit bloated. Although it has a lot of features when it comes to troubleshooting, we don't basically know where to start even though we do give them the log files to troubleshoot they don't give us a proper solution set. So I would say because it's bloated, it's a bit more difficult to troubleshoot where you get certain errors.
From my side, on the POC I didn't really need to do much. It's only after we discovered there was a compatibility issue with the application that the client was running that we actually had to do a lot of log file shipping to Acronis themselves and getting solutions because of other problems. So on a day-to-day basis, you don't even maintain it, you just forget about it. You get alerts, but usually in between. It's quite easy to manage.
To be honest with you, since I didn't really test that option of Acronis Cyber Protect, it's supposed to make everything feasible and easy to manage but I never got the option of testing it out, so I cannot really say at this stage.
For how long have I used the solution?
It's been less than a year because I started in December 2023 and I discontinued it in October 2024.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
The deployment process for Acronis Cyber Protect was very straightforward. It was a simple point and click procedure.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I was using the latest version and never experienced any issues whatsoever. But on my client side, even on the latest version, that's where we experienced the hiccups. We also logged the call through Acronis, but they couldn't really solve the problem. It ended up being at a point where we actually had to disable some features in order for the client to work through that specific purpose.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I would rate it eight on a scale from 1 to 10 for scalability, considering it will be multiple assets.
How are customer service and support?
Their response is quite efficient. I'll give them a nine for how responsive they are in technical support.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I haven't tried any new products as yet, but I've discontinued with Acronis Cyber Protect because a couple of my clients that were doing a proof of concept found that the application was a bit bloated and it gave issues with their accounting packages. So I ended up just cancelling it.
How was the initial setup?
I would say it took me about an hour to do the whole configuration and about 15 minutes per machine to do the installation, so let's say between three hours in all.
What about the implementation team?
It was myself only because I was doing a POC for my client, so I did everything myself from the console side of things to the actual deployment.
What was our ROI?
Not much benefits since implementing Acronis Cyber Protect because their pricing model, basically as a reseller, I buy bundled packages and whether the client pays for the service or not, I'm still left with a huge bill. So it doesn't really make much benefit for me financially.
What other advice do I have?
I stopped using Acronis Cyber Protect around about October last year, so it's about eight or seven months back.
I haven't had a chance to explore Acronis Cyber Protect Disaster Recovery because we didn't get as far as the POC approval in order to deploy company-wide. So I didn't really get the chance to test that.
At this stage, Acronis Cyber Protect helps me to overcome nothing because it actually caused more problems than it solved.
I don't work with AI in Acronis Cyber Protect, reason being, the way I deployed it, even though the AI was active and checking on the network, but it's something that's rudimentary, something that every other product does. So it doesn't really stand out at this stage.
I would rate Acronis Cyber Protect five out of ten. It's a very nice product to have provided with the latest updates, it's more stable across all platforms. Then I would definitely give it a ten, but I cannot test it as such. From what I've seen, I'll give it a five because although it looks beautiful, when there are hiccups, you don't really know where to start troubleshooting.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
