If a hard drive fails, we can recover to another hard drive.
Pros and Cons
  • "It makes a full image of the hard drive. If a hard drive fails, all we do is recover to another hard drive."
  • "Some of the default settings out-of-the-box should already be set up for the novice user. For instance, the warnings that say a hard drive has bad sectors and stops the backup from performing."

What is most valuable?

It has the ability to backup and move to a different machine if the machine dies. I haven't been able to use this feature yet, but I know it will come in handy. The ability to move from one machine to another for backup if a machine completely fails. We have a backup of not only the machine, i.e., the hard drive and data, but we also have the ability to recover to a new piece of equipment fairly quickly. That's one of the more important features.

It makes a full image of the hard drive. If a hard drive fails, all we do is recover to another hard drive. We just pop in the hard drive and that's very fast as well. Speed and the ease in which we recover full hard drives are valuable features.

What needs improvement?

Some of the default settings out-of-the-box should already be set up for the novice user. For instance, the warnings that say a hard drive has bad sectors and stops the backup from performing.

My suggestion would be to still give the warnings that there are bad sectors on the hard drive, but continue to backup. It could then offer the option of whether to stop backups, or stop them from performing.

During my first experience with backing up, I ended up coming across an error and the solution was to mark that checkbox that said, "Skip bad sector warnings." I didn't know that existed. It would just make it easier for first time users if no matter what, it would make a backup and just give you the warnings.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I wouldn't say we had stability issues as much as I would say that we have errors that may or may not affect the backup. For instance, we were backing up a computer that uses Windows 7 Embedded. It warned me that this would probably not work, but it did. I don't know if that's a stability issue or if that's just making sure of backup success.

It makes a full image of the hard drive. If a hard drive fails, all we do is recover to another hard drive. We just pop in the hard drive and that's very fast as well. Speed and the ease in which we recover full hard drives are valuable features.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our facility is small such that scalability is not a problem.

How are customer service and support?

I did use technical support and I give it the highest rating. The technical support we received when doing a recovery handled our questions. They were able to resolve any questions that we had.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did use Backup Exec. It belonged to Symantec at the time. Now it's Veritas. The reason we switched was because I experienced firsthand what Acronis could do using the Western Digital version, the free version, or the version that comes with Western Digital drives. I was very impressed.

I went deeper, got into Acronis, and it was recommended by a company from whom we purchase equipment. It's just a solid product in my experience.

How was the initial setup?

The setup complexity was medium. The single disk is easy. The advanced version for multiple computers was medium in complexity.

What was our ROI?

It has already paid off itself in the first few months that we implemented it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I tried Clonezilla and Backup Exec.

Click Here for FREE Trial of Acronis Backup. See Why It Gets 5-Star Reviews.

What other advice do I have?

Watch out for that “Skip bad sectors” setting if you plan on running this software unattended. Don't hesitate to call Acronis support. They will be ready and willing to help you right away.

The software warned Windows 7 Embedded was not supported, yet the backup/restore still worked despite the warning I was given.

It makes a full image of the hard drive. If a hard drive fails, all we do is recover to another hard drive. We just pop in the hard drive and that's very fast as well. Speed and the ease in which we recover full hard drives are valuable features.

Offers ease of use and a user-friendly interface
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution's most valuable features are its ease of use and its user-friendly interface compared to other tools."
  • "Currently, there is no option to use the tape drives again as a backup repository for the cloud deployment."

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution in my company for backup purposes.

What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable features are its ease of use and its user-friendly interface compared to other tools.

What needs improvement?

If there is an option to use the tape drives again as a backup repository for the cloud deployment, it can help users in a similar way to the on-premises deployment phase. Currently, there is no option to use the tape drives again as a backup repository for the cloud deployment.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Acronis Cyber Protect for two years. I use the solution's latest version, which is Acronis Cyber Protect 15.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I can install the product anywhere, including on a regular VM for the management console, and run it there. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

Around 50 people in my company use the product.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's technical support is helpful. The solution's technical team always responds quickly within the day and even offers remote services. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

My company did not use any other tool before Acronis Cyber Protect, and we were simply using Google's backup tool with 200 GB.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase is straightforward. One of the strong points of the tool is its ease of deployment.

The solution is deployed on a hybrid cloud model.

The solution can be deployed in 30 minutes, specifically to set up the management console. It may take even less time if you are installing the agents on all the machines. In general, it is a user-friendly and quick process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I think that the prices of the product go up every year. If one is extremely expensive and ten is absolutely cheap, I rate the product price as six. There is no need to pay anything extra apart from the standard licensing fees attached to the product.

What other advice do I have?

In our organization, we use backup and disaster recovery to recover some of the data from the laptops of employees who did not handle their files properly. With the help of the backup, we got the missing files.

Acronis Cyber Protect improved our company's security posture against threats as it gave our company some visibility on the files that got through the normal Microsoft Defender but had to be quarantined by Acronis Cyber Protect. My company needed file generations or old files on cracked software.

The features of Acronis Cyber Protect I find the most valuable for data protection is in the area of encryption for backups.

The cybersecurity and backup in Acronis Cyber Protect benefit our company's IT strategy because we now have a better and more reliable solution than just Microsoft Defender. With Acronis Cyber Protect, my company now has assurance that if we ever get ransomware attacks, we have backups in place to recover data.

The usability and the implementation of the tool are good, straightforward, and user-friendly.

The tool has impacted our company's recovery time objectives by lessening the RTOs and RPOs. Even the time for backup has been automated with the tool. In our company, we just run the backups at the end of the day, and so I think it has lessened our RTOs and RPOs by 50 percent.

There is no need for troubleshooting or maintenance since the product runs smoothly.

I recommend the product to others. The product is good but improvements in the form of innovations and new features need to be introduced.

I rate the tool a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Offers easy setup, fast backups, and recognition of SQL logs on virtual machines
Pros and Cons
  • "For me, the tool proved most valuable in scenarios where it offered easy setup, fast backups, and recognition of SQL logs on virtual machines."
  • "The dashboards for digital operations can be improved."

What is our primary use case?

I  began using Acronis Cyber Protect when a customer needed backups for Azure VMs outside of Azure. At that time, not many solutions offered this capability, and Acronis Cyber Protect stood out as an option to meet the specific requirement for third-party Azure VM backups.

What is most valuable?

For me, the tool proved most valuable in scenarios where it offered easy setup, fast backups, and recognition of SQL logs on virtual machines. Additionally, its ability to handle active directory structures was a notable advantage. I would rate its dashboards a seven on a scale from one to ten.

What needs improvement?

The dashboards for digital operations can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the product for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Acronis Cyber Protect is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is scalable.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process was quite straightforward for me. Though one needs to be aware of certain technical terms and names, overall, it was manageable.

What about the implementation team?

The tool's support helped me with the implementation process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In my opinion, the tool's pricing is reasonable. I had some discussions with other vendors who tried to match the price I was paying for it, but it became evident that the solution offered a more transparent and affordable pricing structure, especially with options for six months or a year.

What other advice do I have?

At this moment, I use Acronis Cyber Protect purely for backups. I'm also working with it for some customers, and while I haven't fully explored the RMM features and the integrated antivirus solution, I've kept my focus on the backup capabilities.

I rate the overall product an eight out of ten.

Easy to use, easy implementation, and high return on investment
Pros and Cons
  • "Acronis Backup is easy to use."
  • "When you are using enterprise hardware and software that increases over time, there need to be better and more management features. For pure backup software, it is fine, but when it comes to managing a large infrastructure it is lacking."

What is our primary use case?

We were using Acronis Backup for Windows Servers, such as Windows 2003 and 2008 operating systems. We had old Windows systems and we were using Acronis Backup.

What is most valuable?

Acronis Backup is easy to use.

What needs improvement?

When you are using enterprise hardware and software that increases over time, there need to be better and more management features. For pure backup software, it is fine, but when it comes to managing a large infrastructure it is lacking.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Acronis Backup for approximately seven years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Acronis Backup is not scalable.

We have 10 people in my organization that use the solution.

We are a large company, we are the Steel Authority of India Limited. We span across all of India. We are the biggest steel manufacturers in the country, we have more than 60,000, people working in the company. Generally, I am using Veeam, but there may be other parts of the organization still using Acronis Backup.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support of Acronis Backup is not very responsive in support. We needed it a few times, but it was not very readily available.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Windows backup before Acronis Backup. I use currently using Veeeam backup.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very simple. The full deployment process took half an hour.

What about the implementation team?

We did the implementation ourselves. We have a team of ten that can do the maintenance of the solution.

What was our ROI?

The return on investment was great because it saved us many times, it saved our lives many times. We lost a machine and we could recover it using Acronis Backup. The return of investment measurement is great.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We were on a perpetual license for Acronis Backup.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated Cohesity.

What other advice do I have?

We started using this solution because it was recommended by a German company called Siemens.

We no longer use Acronis Backup but we wanted to at that time continue with it. However, Acronis did not want to listen to us to enable us more possibilities for us to consider them. Their response was very cold. We looked into other companies, such as Veeam and Cohesity and we went with Veeam.

I rate Acronis Backup an eight out of ten.

Easy to use, affordable, strong and quick support, and built-in ransomware protection
Pros and Cons
  • "The main reasons that our customers like Acronis are that it is very strong and easy to use."
  • "The problems that we face are often related to the customer's network, although sometimes there are problems with the software, such as an error in the configuration."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and Acronis Backup is one of the products that we implement for our customers.

What is most valuable?

The main reasons that our customers like Acronis are that it is very strong and easy to use. Many of our customers use Acronis without any problems.

They have anti-ransomware active protection in the product.

What needs improvement?

The problems that we face are often related to the customer's network, although sometimes there are problems with the software, such as an error in the configuration. There is no perfect product.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been working with Acronis Backup for between five and six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a strong product, and any problems that our customers have had are very small.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have approximately 50 customers who use this product.

How are customer service and technical support?

Acronis support is very strong and they're available 24/7, online via chat or email, or by telephone. There are times that we have faced issues, and when we opened tickets, they found solutions very fast.

Often, the team will read the logs that we supply, and then, in quick time, they find solutions. These are either fixed using patches or they make suggestions for changes to the settings. One of the reasons that our customers purchase Acronis is because they don't have major problems or bugs in their software.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have many customers that have converted from other backup products to Acronis. Two examples of these are Veritas and Veeam.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple. It is not complex at all.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This is an affordable product and fits within our customers' budgets.

What other advice do I have?

We are currently testing the new version, 15. Based on our experience, we have been providing input to their pre-sales team, and the feedback was taken back to the management. Now, everything seems to be running fine.

For example, in the new version, they have more protection options for malware, and they have additional tools to assist the IT administrator in controlling the network. These including things like management tools for remote desktops and vulnerability management.

Any customer who uses Acronis that has needed to restore anything from their backup has had a 99% success rate, where they have been able to restore data without any problems.

Nothing is perfect and gets a full mark. We have faced some issues, although the support is strong and they take issues seriously. They don't let our customers get upset at the product, and they have solved all of the problems that we have faced.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Acts as a back and offers cybersecurity protection
Pros and Cons
  • "From my perspective, the most valuable features in Acronis Cyber Protect include ransomware protection and antivirus. These features not only add significant value but also play a crucial role in closing deals. When selling backup for Microsoft 365, these security features, like ransomware protection and antivirus, serve as a starting point to offer backup and protection."
  • "The tool's dashboard for daily operations is useful, but I find that it could benefit from enhancements, particularly in terms of reporting. While exporting reports, the format is not fancy as it appears on the dashboard. The exported files are typically in Excel CSV or PDF format."

What is our primary use case?

Our customers primarily use the solution for backup purposes, focusing on gaining insights into the backup process. They seek real insights into the backups, determining whether the images are virus-influenced. The key objective is to identify clean images that can be restored, allowing for a smooth restart of production. Restoring an infected version could lead to the point where the product environment gets infected and goes down. It helps with both backup and cybersecurity.

What is most valuable?

From my perspective, the most valuable features in Acronis Cyber Protect include ransomware protection and antivirus. These features not only add significant value but also play a crucial role in closing deals. When selling backup for Microsoft 365, these security features, like ransomware protection and antivirus, serve as a starting point to offer backup and protection.

Integrating backup and antivirus in one platform has significantly enhanced data protection for our customers. It uses a single agent for both backup and preventing ransomware attacks. This approach eliminates the need for different agents installed on end-user computers, addressing performance concerns.

For cybersecurity needs, the patch management feature in Acronis Cyber Protect has proven highly effective. It comes in handy when new patches are released, particularly for third-party applications that are not Windows-based. Third-party applications like Chrome may have vulnerabilities, and Acronis Cyber Protect enables the easy deployment of updates to ensure end-users are running the latest versions.

What needs improvement?

The tool's dashboard for daily operations is useful, but I find that it could benefit from enhancements, particularly in terms of reporting. While exporting reports, the format is not fancy as it appears on the dashboard. The exported files are typically in Excel CSV or PDF format.

I don't know if this feature is already there or not, but when doing a backup from Microsoft 365, We have groups distribution list groups where we list all the users that we need to have the backup for. So if there's a way that we can pull the members of the group to be taken for a certain backup plan, that will be really because otherwise, I need to go and look for the users one by one, and it doesn't help when you have 500 or 1000 users.

One feature that I would like to see in the product is the ability to automatically uninstall or remove devices from the portal when they have been off for more than 30 days. Currently, there is a case where the device being off for an extended period indicates the employee has likely resigned.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the product for more than three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is scalable.

How are customer service and support?

The product's technical support is helpful.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Veeam and Commvault.

How was the initial setup?

There's good documentation on the Acronis Cyber Protect website on how to do things, plus the training courses that we took from its portal. They really help. We also have support from the product's presales engineers. They always support us whenever we run into a problem.

For a Microsoft 365 backup plan, the deployment process typically takes around half an hour, where we explain to the customer how things are done. However, the duration of backup plans involving endpoint devices with Acronis Cyber Protect varies based on the organization's size.

A considerable amount of resources is needed for massive deployments in large organizations. This is particularly true when the devices are not centralized in a managed platform, meaning they are not joined to an active directory or MDM solution. In such cases, the tool's agent must be installed on each device individually, or network scanning may be attempted, but it often proves ineffective. Joining the devices to an MDM or an active directory streamlines the deployment process. Otherwise, having a list of users and installing the agent individually for each one becomes necessary.

We had two to three instances where the users had complained that the agents made the systems slow.

What was our ROI?

The product's ROI comes at a great value.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The tool is cheap compared to other products.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the product a seven out of ten.

Easy to set up with good restoration capabilities and a nice central console
Pros and Cons
  • "This is a perfect option for an SMB."
  • "On the cloud side, security could always be better."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution as a backup.

What is most valuable?

The good thing is that it's a central console. In that console itself, we have multiple options. You can install a file sync option. With the backup itself, you can take a second backup with the client's own cloud and the universal backup, which is like a complete image of the server backup level.

That restoration is very good on the Acronis side compared to other products.

They have their own cloud. Users can work with Azure or AWS as well.

It's very easy to manage. We are an MSSP partner, so we have multiple customers in a single console we can easily manage. There is no need for a server requirement. The server is okay for a backup. If all the backups are in Arcserve, we need a separate server to install the backup. There is an additional cost associated with that approach, however, here, there is no cost.

The solution is easy to set up.

It is very stable.

Scalability isn't an issue.

This is a perfect option for an SMB.

What needs improvement?

Comparatively, depending on the setup, it can be costly.

On the cloud side, security could always be better.

If you are taking a secondary backup on the cloud, more compression would be better. It would help reduce sizing.

I'm not certain how effective the solution would be for enterprise-level companies.

We'd like the ability to be able to restore on-premises. Right now, we can only restore on the cloud.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for the last five to ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We don't have issues with scalability. We're mostly selling to SMB customers, not enterprises. It can scale for their purposes. Typically companies in the category we work with have 50 to 100 users, or maybe a maximum of 200 users.

How are customer service and support?

Normally, we get support from our team.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Normally, we used to provide Veeam as well. That said, Veeam has a completely different product and a different portfolio. They have a different cloud-based option, and Veeam doesn't have a cloud-based option. Which we would use would depend on the client's needs. Both products are good. If a client has multiple servers for backing up, Acronis is best. The way they are priced is completely different as well. As an MSSP partner, we typically get good pricing with Acronis. We don't have the same relationship with Veeam.

How was the initial setup?

This product is very straightforward to set up. It's not a complex process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are an MSSP partner for the Acronis Cloud, so we are getting a good price.

What other advice do I have?

We have a lot of customers on Acronis right now.

I'm handling the presales, so I'm involved with implementations in all of the environments.

I would rate the solution eight out of ten.

A stable and scalable backup solution with superior image restoring capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The image backup and image restore features have been very beneficial to us."
  • "They've got an agent to back up Microsoft SQL, to our Office 365, but there is not an agent to back up my SQL databases."

What is our primary use case?

I use the product to protect key servers and workstations. We run mission critical servers where downtime cannot be afforded. Acronis is the only solution I trust to get us back up and running after a major catastrophe.

How has it helped my organization?

It has saved us from certain financial ruin after important servers containing financial data were stolen during a robbery. We were able to restore backups to new hardware and carry on with business as usual.

What is most valuable?

Incremental image backups are the most valuable part of the software. Using this feature we are able to restore to any previous backup. It is more than file backup, it backs up the entire disk, containig operating system, software and data. By restoring an image to a new hard drive, we can run the restore and reboot, and immediately be back in business.

What needs improvement?

Over the years they seem to have changed the interface to be more of a graphical interface and they have omitted the ability to use the interface using a keyboard only. When you are in a data center environment and you don't have a mouse with you, or for some reason the mouse is not working and you need to restore, it is extremely difficult/impossible.

If you don't have a mouse, there seems to be no way to move between the icons. In the old days it was compulsory to design software interfaces that were compatible with both the keyboard and mouse. You could press 'Alt-R' for restore and 'Alt-B' for backup, or something like that. Those functions have been removed from the product and it's very frustrating.

Another one feature I would like to see added is an agent to back up MySQL databases as well. They've got an agent to back up Microsoft SQL, but there is not an agent to back up MySQL databases.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Acronis Backup for more than 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Acronis Backup is very stable. I'm using it for critical servers and workstations — it runs really well.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's very easy to add more machines. You can install as many as your license allows.

How are customer service and technical support?

I would say they're very supportive and really helpful. The guy even came up to our site to help and gave us some assistance and training as well. I can't complain about that at all.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I switched 20 years ago, so whatever I used before Acronis would not be not relevant now.

How was the initial setup?

The TrueImage versions are super easy to install. The initial setup is really easy if you know what you're doing. You just have to download it from the web, run it, and install it. It's very straightforward, there's nothing really difficult about it. The only little technical bit comes with the Cyber Cloud versions where you now have to install a Cyber Cloud console, and then you have to create a backup job and you have to assign the backup job to a computer. For an average person, that would be slightly tricky to do, whereas a reseller or a service provider could easily do that.

Deployment on one machine only takes a few minutes. You literally select the product you're going to install from the cyber console, download the agent, install the agent on the computer, create the backup job, and then link the backup job to the agent. It probably takes about 10 minutes to set up the whole thing.

What about the implementation team?

We do all installations ourselves, but I had to get support from Acronis initially to get up to speed on all the features. They are really professional and gave all assistance where required.

What was our ROI?

Massive peace of mind and the certain knowledge that we can recover from any disaster goes way beyond the cost of the product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The installation fees are very reasonable and the monthly/annual licensing fees are minimal for the features you get.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I looked at VeeAm, Backup Exec, Solarwinds and Redstor. Veeam requires the installation of SQL even on workstations. In my experience this impacted overall performance of workstations. Backup Exec I found frustrating to administer and Solarwinds, although fantastic for File Backups and Office365, is not ideal for image backups. The bare metal restore (BMR) for Solarwinds is extremely basic and only restores to the first available SATA drive it finds. I accidentally overwrote important data using Solarwinds BMR since it does not warn you or give you an option to choose a destination drive for the restore. And after the BMR the machine did not want to boot, meaning I could not rely on the solution in times of crisis. Redstor is a great product and works well, but it is complicated to get to know and even after a course on it, I still felt a bit lost. Plus it was really expensive compared to Acronis.

What other advice do I have?

Acronis now includes a feature called Cyber Protect, which performs anti-malware scanning and protects everything on your system. It can also check for Microsoft patches and helps you to stay updated and protected. It has a very accurate disk health monitor that could warn you of imminent drive failure. It also protects the integrity of your online backups against ransomware. From start to finish, not only does it protect your hard drive, it protects the integrity of the backups as well.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give this solution a rating of eight. You might require assistance to create backup plans and to link them to backup agents, and also for the fact that it doesn't have the ability work without a mouse.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
