A web-based interface that is stable and easy to use, but error messages need to be more clear
Pros and Cons
  • "The web-based interface makes it easy to use."
  • "When an error occurs, the information is not always easy to understand and these messages should be made more clear."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and Acronis Backup is one of the products that we implement for our clients. We have one management server, 20 servers with agents, and between 15 and 20 workstations that we take regular backups of. All of these backups are stored on tape.

What is most valuable?

The web-based interface makes it easy to use.

The popularity of the product means that many people are familiar with it, which is helpful. For example, the company that supplies our hardware also deals with Acronis.

What needs improvement?

One of my clients is using version 11.7, which I feel has quite a few bugs and is not easy to work with. I always recommend that my clients upgrade to version 12.5. It is much more stable and better than the older version.

When an error occurs, the information is not always easy to understand and these messages should be made more clear. Because our system is not connected to the internet, we cannot use the incorporated links to the knowledge base.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been dealing with Acronis Backup for about six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We had some problems in the beginning when it came to getting all of our clients running the way we wanted, but once you get it implemented properly, it is quite stable. For the past few years, it has been running without a problem.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Our installation base is not very large, at 20 servers, and 15 to 20 workstations, although I have also worked with the virtual hosts and virtual machines. From what I have seen, the scalability has been very good. The majority of our clients are medium-sized businesses.

How are customer service and support?

I have been in touch with technical support and the last time, at least, was very good. We did get put in contact with a very good person who was able to help us. However, I know that my colleague had some problems a few years ago, so it might depend on who you get for support. Also, if you escalate the ticket to level two or level three support then it will be good.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is quite straightforward. My colleague handled the implementation and from what I could see, it was quite fast and there were no issues. On person is suitable for deployment.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before one of my recent clients choose Acronis Backup, I was looking to see if there any other products that were preferable. However, my client ultimately preferred Acronis.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to anybody who is considering this solution is that they are a well-known product, and you can find a lot of information about it online if you search the knowledge base and forums. There are a lot of people who have a lot of experience with it. In fact, the biggest lesson that I have learned from using it is that if I run into problems then I can find answers by searching the internet.

Acronis Backup is the kind of product that is quite easy to get started with, as it is pretty straightforward. The user interface is easy to understand, except for the trouble we have when it comes to reading the error messages.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Configuration of automatic backups and the full image of the hard drive make it reliable

How has it helped my organization?

More reliability of backups and security.

What is most valuable?

The configuration of automatic backups and the full image of the hard drive, so in case something happens I can recover the full hard drive.

What needs improvement?

Installation could be easier.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is a really good characteristic. Even if the PC is off, the software tries to apply the backup.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No, the application has very good support. The only difficulty is in the security of each computer login. In general, the application is excellent.

How are customer service and technical support?

The knowledge is excellent from the support people. The only difficulty is regarding the support hours, because they are a long way from us in terms of time zones.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Not myself. But at this company they had Carbonite, a really bad application. We switched because of this application's features that permit us to do many things.

How was the initial setup?

It was difficult because of the security logins that are different for each computer.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This application, which we bought through PC MALL, was expensive. A month later I discovered the price was totally different. I already told fiends the application works very well, but they should buy it at a different price than we paid.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Barracuda Backup and EaseUS Todo Backup.

What other advice do I have?

Proceed with it, it's a good application; just check the price.

Also, I can explain to my friends the “issues” I have had during the installation so it can be implemented faster and more easily.

Vendor
Very flexible with options to select files to ignore as well as incremental and differential backups
Pros and Cons
  • "I can encrypt the data, I can make it send me an email if it fails. It lets me choose which files I want to ignore during backup."
  • "If I could create a protected image backup on a computer partition that just would be just for the image backup; and only the program could access it to prevent viruses from getting into it. That would be very, very good."

How has it helped my organization?

Up to now, it was fantastic. Whenever we had a problem, we just restored the image. Every first of the month I'm doing a full image backup, and every day of the month a differential backup.

The improvement is that if something happens, I can go back very quickly. I keep all my data in different locations. The partition where I'm using the image, it's actually like an engine. So, if something happens, I just put the engine back and get back to work very, very quickly.

What is most valuable?

I use the backup recovery for work station, for server, and disk director.

I also like the fact they provide real support. I have human support, which is very important, and they've really improved.

The software is very, very flexible, there are a lot of options. I can encrypt the data, I can make it send me an email if it fails. It lets me choose which files I want to ignore during backup. I can do incremental or differential. And there is the Universal Restore, which is less and less important today, but it's still there.

What needs improvement?

Recently there was an event where I thought everything was working OK but, in part, the image wasn't good. It didn't give me a message telling me that the image didn't work properly. But that's very rare. Usually the backup works fine.

I would prefer that they not change the interface every time there is a new release. The best one was actually the one from 2009. It was very easy to use. But I just bought the server, 12.5, a couple of weeks ago. I had to call one of the technicians to help set it up. It was so complicated. And I still don't know how to use it. It's very, very complicated.

And you know, at the end of the day, we want things to work seamlessly, to work really quickly and easy. It's a shame they're making all these changes. We don't need them. They should improve the program without changing all these things, just add things.

If I could create a protected image backup on a computer partition that just would be just for the image backup; and only the program could access it to prevent viruses from getting into it. That would be very, very good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I can't really say, as I'm just using it for myself.

How are customer service and technical support?

Recently, fantastic. I'm very happy with them. I actually complained to the head office a few times two years ago because it was a disaster. There were people who barely knew what they were talking about. Recently, I've had a very good technician, very proactive, and I'm very happy with them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously I used Ghost from Symantec. I also tried other products at the same time just to make sure I was making the right decision. No question that the Acronis is better than everyone else.

The product allows us to restore two dissimilar hardware, but the support and documentation must be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "Universal Restore is valuable to us."
  • "The support and documentation must be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for backup.

What is most valuable?

Universal Restore is valuable to us. It allows us to restore two dissimilar hardware. It creates a DR scenario for smaller clients.

What needs improvement?

The support and documentation must be improved. It's hard to find information. The portal is a little bit finicky. We must search for exactly the right thing, or it is difficult to find solutions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s stability an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s scalability a nine out of ten since it is cloud-based. The biggest difficulty is how different backups created by different user accounts cause segregation. It causes issues sometimes in restoration. The solution is suitable for SMEs. It gets quite difficult to manage over a certain size.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used Azure Site Recovery a little bit. Acronis is a better product, though.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup can be painful if someone has no experience using the tool. It is not 100% intuitive. However, we do it a lot. So, it is fairly simple for us. The product is cloud-based.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate the pricing a seven out of ten on a scale where one is high, and ten is low.

What other advice do I have?

It is frustrating when we cannot find the right information when something goes down. Overall, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

Useful backup information but more search flexibility needed
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature of Acronis Backup is the data recovery and restoration details."
  • "Acronis Backup can improve the latency when the file size is larger, we have had issues. Additionally, they could allow more flexibility when searching for information and I cannot download the CBIS backup copy information which could be made easier."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Acronis Backup for backups of our data. For example, backups of Office 365 and other data.

Acronis Backup can be deployed on the cloud and on-premise.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Acronis Backup is the data recovery and restoration details.

What needs improvement?

Acronis Backup can improve the latency when the file size is larger, we have had issues. Additionally, they could allow more flexibility when searching for information and I cannot download the CBIS backup copy information which could be made easier.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Acronis Backup for approximately one year.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have eight customers using Acronis Backup and each has approximately 3,000 employees.

How are customer service and support?

The support from Acronis Backup can improve because when I have an issue it sometimes takes them five days to have a solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are monthly fees to use Acronis Backup.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Acronis Backup a seven out of ten.

We got to back up all the information in real time.

What is most valuable?

I think just the part that is, we can configure the system. It's backing it up, every computer, as we went. The parameters, and automatically, the program does it.

How has it helped my organization?

No, just the main point is we got to back up all the information in real time. That's the point.

What needs improvement?

Well, maybe in the installation part, got to do it just a little bit ... Maybe in the

installation part, if you can avoid a few things. Maybe the skip...The computer can back it up, each computer, without the username and password of the computer.
You are taking part of Microsoft Windows in order to do that thing, but if Acronis is managed through a license, can be installed without the Windows part. The security Windows part.

Do you know what I mean?

Each license has a number -- a really big number -- so Acronis can work without the Windows security. That's a very good point.

So it's gonna be faster and you will avoid a lot of problems of installation, because a lot of people don't have the technical knowledge to do it. So it's hard sometimes for the persons to do it. If you avoid that part, it's gonna be faster.

For how long have I used the solution?

Since January 2017.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think it's really scalable for a program.

How are customer service and technical support?

Yes, yes. Since the beginning, I was telling you I've had problems with a few usernames and passwords for Windows here because some computers have Windows 10 Home Edition, and others ones have Windows Professional Edition.

Each computer works differently with the program, because some ones are in Windows Home and some ones in Windows Pro, so the installation works differently. That's why I had to call technical support in the beginning.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Yeah. Let me tell you this. I've been working at my company for a short time, and before I worked for them, they were using Carbonite.

Carbonite doesn't back up the full information. It's a real expensive solution, and then when you try to get your information through their servers, it has a cost.

Instead, you are paying a contract by year.

How was the initial setup?

How to manage the program is real easy and really fast. I don't have a

problem.

But, I told you, if the person doesn't have knowledge about networking, like what is IPRs, and what is the domain name, and very technical issues or information, that person will have a problem.

If you are the owner of the information, and even when you need it faster, you have to pay for the information, come on. It's ridiculous what they are asking for.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

A few solutions, even a freeware solution, I think

The most reliable solution that I found, it was Acronis because of the program, which is why I would choose Acronis.

What other advice do I have?

I'd check what the program doing, and I check Acronis do it, and the same point.

Nobody referred me to or gave me information about Acronis. I found it on the internet, and I start to read what the Acronis is capable of doing.

The way I chose Acronis is easy, because I saw a few demos that showed me how the program works.

So, with that showing, or that demo, that's why we chose Acronis.

It's really important that people have, for example, those videos or that information visually, because --

If you do not explain visually what the program doing, meaning if
people are not familiarized with software, and they won't comprehend what the program is doing.

We needed a solution for backing up the server OS and servers with RAIDs. Reliability has been really good.

What is most valuable?

Getting an image of a server machine just for disaster recovery purposes is valuable.

We have used it to back up systems and we have recovered systems. The amount of features that it has and reliability has been really good.

How has it helped my organization?

When we first started, we didn’t have the ability to back up servers, per se, that had RAID drives on them. Years ago we were trying Ghost backup or some other more consumer-based products. Then when we found Acronis, we were actually able to back up the server OS on a RAID drive Blu-ray.

What needs improvement?

The newer version 12 was a little bit hard to set up and get licensed. When I went to version 12, the actual license page wouldn’t come up in an Internet Explorer browser, so we had to change to another browser as a workaround to get to the licensing page. That happened on at least two different installations of that version.

I haven’t worked with 12.5 yet, but this issue was on Version 12. I worked with technical support and we tried a couple of things, but then, that licensing page would always come up blank in Internet Explorer. Then, when we changed to a different browser, it did come up and we were able to license it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Acronis for about 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We didn’t have stability issues. After I got it licensed, it worked fine.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate it high in that department.

How are customer service and technical support?

I rate technical support a 10 out of 10.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Norton or Norton Ghost or maybe DriveImage Backup. Then, we switched because we needed a solution for backing up the server OS, and then for servers that contained more than just one single hard drive in a RAID configuration.

How was the initial setup?

Setup is straightforward.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did look around at the different options. I can’t recall the names of them now, but other commercial server-level products that would do the same thing, but they were probably a little higher in price. At the time they are higher in price and Acronis was more competitive that way.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend it. At my company we’ve used it widely. It’s actually in a lot of our best practices documents to use this product, so we've kind of adopted it unofficially.

Feature complete, useful cloning, and helpful support
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of Acronis Backup are cloning and many other capabilities. For example, you are able to clone the whole operating system and drive. Additionally, the solution is a complete package."
  • "Acronis Backup has a straightforward initial setup process and an easy-to-use interface. However, a potential issue for Acronis partners is that registered partners do not have access to marketing materials, which can make it difficult for them to reach mass markets and sell the product. This could be improved by allowing registered partners to access marketing materials and tools, such as email templates, that would help them to promote Acronis Backup effectively."

What is our primary use case?

We are a service provider and we sell the solution and help them set it up.

Acronis Backup is a software application that is used to create backups of different types of data and software, including Microsoft Azure and SQL instances. It is commonly used by businesses in various industries, such as banks, law firms, and financial institutions, to protect their enterprise applications and data, including databases and data accessed by mobile employees in the field.

The solution works best as a hybrid because of local security regulations in terms of the storage of data. A hybrid is usually the best deployment, especially in our country.

How has it helped my organization?

Acronis Backup has been beneficial for our organization because it allows our mobile employees to create backups while they are in the field, rather than having to come back to the office to do so. This is particularly useful because, in the past, we had to rely on our office network to perform backups using Azure and Veeam. With Acronis, as long as our mobile employees have ethernet connectivity, they can create backups remotely, which has been convenient and efficient.

Using Acronis Backup has helped our organization by allowing us to create backups of data accessed by mobile employees in the field, which has reduced the risk of data loss due to theft, loss of laptops, or other incidents. This has improved our operations by helping us to protect our data and prevent losses that could impact our business.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of Acronis Backup are cloning and many other capabilities. For example, you are able to clone the whole operating system and drive. Additionally, the solution is a complete package.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used Acronis Backup for approximately within the last 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Acronis Backup is good.

I rate the stability of Acronis Backup an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the scalability of Acronis Backup an eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

The support pays a lot of attention to the customers. Here in South Africa, we only have two technicians.

I rate the support from Acronis Backup a nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

Acronis Backup has a straightforward initial setup process and an easy-to-use interface. However, a potential issue for Acronis partners is that registered partners do not have access to marketing materials, which can make it difficult for them to reach mass markets and sell the product. This could be improved by allowing registered partners to access marketing materials and tools, such as email templates, that would help them to promote Acronis Backup effectively.

What was our ROI?

I have seen a return on investment with Acronis Backup.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

Acronis Backup is a comprehensive application that can be used in a variety of settings, making it a valuable tool for many businesses. Its versatility and ability to handle a wide range of tasks make it an attractive choice for those looking for a single application to meet their backup and data protection needs. I recommend Acronis Backup to many of my clients due to its versatility and usefulness in various situations.

I rate Acronis Backup a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud
