A must have cost effective backup and recovery solution for SMEs for quick recovery but not for high end applications.

What is most valuable?

The recovery system works great. I recovered the systems in few minutes from a disaster. It has a very clear and easy to use Interface. The vast amount of knowledge base articles on its site is great for troubleshooting issues. I liked the feature to split backups into multiple files to fit different media types. It has data encryption, which encrypts your backups as a security precaution.

What needs improvement?

I found logs are not enough for troubleshooting in case of failures. Absence of file filtering tools is disappointing. Does not provides advance backup solution like granular backup of emails.

What other advice do I have?

I bought this software for backup of workgroup based computers and it worked great for them. Scheduling was quite easy and the recovery process was awesome. Due to some power failure our 10 systems crashed which were recovered in few minutes by the Acronis recovery partition. However it lacks advance features like granular backup and data filtering hence unsuitable for enterprise level.

No one solution can address all needs and hence it has definite segment and requirements where it fits well. Surely, from reviewers experience seems that complex point in time recoveries might pose some challenges in case a fault has occurred. Worked with oracle backup recoveries and liked the SCN based recoveries which leaves a room to go to a certain point back in time if last back is not good. How it is handled in Acronics, any ideas?

A very good backup & recovery solution with a whole bunch of features

Valuable Features:

Very easy to restore backups down to the item level depending on what you are backing up. We have used Acronis Backup and Recovery for around 4 years backing up our Datacentre servers and individual application servers such as Exchange, Sharepoint and SQL. Acronis Backup and Recovery has a simple interface that allows administrators to quickly achieve basic backup tasks and restoration. Administration only becomes difficult when configuring complex backup tasks.

Room for Improvement:

Sometimes backups become corrupted and can not be access via the Recovery Console, You can send the backups too Acronis support (Could take months depending on the size of the backup) and they will try to recover the data, however rarely do. Installation is resource hungry. Sometimes configuration can become too confusing. Before deploying Acronis we did test multiple backup solutions and did quickly realised that - we will be using Acronis as it provides all the features that we needed.

Other Advice:

I do recommend using Acronis Backup and Recovery for a small business.

Can you tell me, please, how backups become corrupted? This is not pleasant for any user, to try to recover data from backups.

Overall a very good backup software

Valuable Features:

It is one of my favorite backup software. Its much faster and reliable than the other softwares that i have tried. Its earlier versions were having problem backing up x64 bit structure but later versions are doing fine.

Room for Improvement:

Not much really. The only problem that i face while using this software is that the backup taken using its older versions do at times create problem while being restored with new versions. So what i believe is that there is something missing between different versions which cause(occasionally) the later versions not to restore the images taken by the earlier versions.

I completely agree with a4illusionist on this backup solution. It is the backup cloud service solution I use to store our company information that is not too sensitive. Why spend on a backup solution when there is a great option that is cost effective? A good way to save the company some money even if not much!

Room for Improvement:

Requires a committed effort to learn this comprehensive software

I agree with your product presentation and I would like to add some features that Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 has. It has bare-metal restoration, the user can restore the server copies, including user configurations, system state data, applications, network settings, and others to a new hard disk. Acronis has customizable backup schemes, it has included prepackaged backup schemes within its software. Another useful feature that Acronis has is outstanding reporting, from customizable e-mail alert notifications to a centralized dashboard that can display backup status for multiple systems on a single screen.

An above average data backup and recovery tool with mediocre UI

Valuable Features:

1) One of the best data backup and recovery software out there in the market. 2) Can be configured to make complete backups as per a scheduled time frame. 3) Can create a disk image to a complete disk and the same can be used to restore to a fresh hard disk. 4) Various options like incremental backup, full backup, differential backup, etc. make the product highly useful. 5) Supports popular Operating System platforms like Windows & Linux. 6) Provides a sector-by-sector disk image creation facility. 7) Disk images can be mounted to read data. 8) Allows data synchronization between two PCs running Acronis Backup and Recovery.

Room for Improvement:

1) Installation is a lengthy process and consumes a lot of disk space. 2) Data backup time is comparatively higher than other similar products out there in the market. 3) The UI is not very user friendly and first time users will definitely struggle to get through. 4) PC to PC synchronization feature requires the end user to login using their Acronis accounts. This slows down the overall synchronization process. 5) Decrypting the data before reading from disk image slows down the overall process of data recovery. 6) There are many products in the market, which do similar things at a cheaper rate.

Other Advice:

One of the best data recovery tools available in the market. However, the installation consumes a lot disk space(1GB+), which results in slower system performance. It also lacks a Virus Scanning facility. Note that systems with Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) are not currently supported. It supports network based data backup and recovery, however network recovery quite often crashes the application.

Complete backup & recovery solution for your network & desktop

Valuable Features:

Acronis Backup & Recovery is an award winning software with multiple facilities. The most important thing is that it has an easy GUI based using console. You can schedule the software for a convenient time and data backup will be done automatically with a notification. You can also clone (Image) entire hard disks as well. Different types of backup facilities are available with the software like incremental backup, full backup, and differential backup. Acronic software does not provide only backup and restore facilities, but it also provides sync facilities between different computers on your network. It supports different types of hardware and operating system platforms (Windows & Linux). You can create an online backup outside of your network in a secure way.

Room for Improvement:

The installation file consumes 1 GB of space on your hard disk. Restore processes fail sometimes if the file is corrupt. System performance slows down while the backup process is running from the network.

Other Advice:

It’s a complete solution for data backup and recovery. It provides offline and online backup facilities. It’s available for your server and desktop as well.

True Image should be an industry standard

Valuable Features:

I've used Norton Ghost before, but switched to True Image almost 4 years ago and never looked back. True Image has a slew of enterprise and end-user features and the interface is both easy to use and simple to understand. I can schedule backups over the network to my dedicated file server or to local machines, and even restore from the network drives!

Room for Improvement:

I can't think of a single one. Maybe it would be better if it was a bit cheaper, but good software is worth every penny.

Other Advice:

I exclusively use Acronis True Image for my Windows backup needs, both in the enterprise and at home. I haven't found a better solution that allows me to interact with a server and schedule automated backups over the network.

Acronis Backup and Recovery and True Image are two different tools. True Image is used for home computers. It protects your personal computer from hardware and software failure by backing it up. Whereas Acronis Backup and Recovery is a business oriented tool, designed for business purposes. It provides features like Active restore and VSS support.
