Priced well, quick restoration, but re-installation needs improvement
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature is the quick restoration. We can restore the data quickly."
- "In some cases, at the time of reinstallation, some disasters happen. For the licensing on the computer the name of the computer and domain, everything is removed from the registry level. Then we have to install the Acronis from the start for it to work properly. Otherwise, the Acronis software will cause a lot of trouble at the time of reinstallation. That's where they need to improve the product. In the case people want to install the same software with the same hardware, it should not stop me."

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I was previously using the following:
- Symantec, like P.q Magic.
- Ghost, which is another competitor, for partitions and backup.
- Something with Windows, like a basic backup solution and others.
A colleague of mine recommended Acronis Backup. He said, "You should try Acronis." This was when Acronis was not popular or common. Everybody was using the competitors' solutions. I tried it and it worked.

The initial setup is super easy and super easy to follow; straightforward. That is the benefit of the ease of use with Acronis solutions.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
As long as Acronis continues to support Win XP, I will use Acronis.
How was the initial setup?
There was some difficulty setting up administrative groups and users, but that was related to the operating system, not the product.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I would advise getting the extended technical support which is independent of the licences.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Veaam. I found its usefulness to be very limited, very dependent on the operating system.
What other advice do I have?
Do backups on a regular basis.

We use it to backup images and files.
What is most valuable?
- We can connect to the Acronis Cloud
- The console is user-friendly
- You can backup image and files
- The domain controllers are very effective
How has it helped my organization?
I have major clients who use this solution: A university, a bank, and one mid-size client. Recently, I needed to recover all of the accounting data on the database. All of their networks were infected with Ransomware. Fortunately, all of their backups were up to date and the recovery went OK. Part of what helped me optimize the storage space was deduplication, encryption, and compression.
What needs improvement?
The online support fluctuates between being very fast or very slow.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for seven years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
There were no deployment issues when deploying with Microsoft. But it was not as fast when deploying with Oracle.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There were some scalability issues. When using the Oracle database, the transfer rate to SAN with optical fiber channels was very slow. It doesn't matter than we were only backing up files.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer service can open a ticket for you, but it could be several days before you hear back from them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I did not use a previous solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is important that you don't only consider the price. Being able to retrieve missing DB or AD data is much more important than the price.
What other advice do I have?
I have a YouTube channel with many videos that can help you.

What needs improvement?
Actually, the version I used is quite old, so at that time it needed a lot of improvements. However, I didn't try the latest version, so I can't have a clear idea about it.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We ran a scenario where we took an image from an operation system and then, we attempted to restore it; it worked perfectly. After a while, we attempted to run the same scenario with the same versions and the same servers, it failed several times, before finally succeeding with the help of their support.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
There were no scalability issues.

The technical support is less than average.
