We use it for the virtualization of third-party APIs for performance testing. Our second use case is related to the virtualization of TCP/IP protocols for third-party terminal insurance, which is used for insurance clients In the case of the virtualization of TCP/IP protocols for third-party…

Has supported faster test execution and increased flexibility while offering room to improve support responsiveness
Reducing the levels of support is something they could continue to improve. They tend to have an entry-level person that may not be as familiar with the product that fields the calls, which creates another day of delay to get to the level that's needed. This is a common practice across most companies where you call, you get the entry-level person, and then they work their way up to help screen calls so that they are more focused.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"LISA VSE and Test Cases."
"We have saved a lot of money and testing time by using CA SV."
"Virtualize - the best mocking/stubbing tool I've ever seen, allows for easier data management"
"I think, wow, we can do a lot of stuff, save a lot of time, and save a lot of money."
"I use VSI, VSM, and SOA testing."
"The tool always had some additional features included in each of its releases and it fixed the bugs of the previous release."
"Unit testing or early life testing did not have to be stopped or delayed because those services were not available."
"I would advise others who are looking for a similar solution to go for this product."
"This tool is awesome for automation even though it is expensive."
"UFT is extremely stable."
"Micro Focus UFT is a good product in my opinion; I can say it's a stable system and it's a legacy, and we have been using it for a long time."
"It has definitely cut down on a lot of time by using this application, as running our ten environments manually would have taken most of the day rather than doing them simultaneously, which saves me hours."
"Its ease of use means we've been able to ramp up non-technical users and have them understand how to do general debugging very easily."
"Micro Focus' Unified Functional Testing tool is shaping up to return as a major contender in the test automation field."
"OpenText Functional Testing has an impressive ability to connect to mobile devices and its ability to test so many different types of software, whether it be mainframe, APIs, mobile, web, or desktop."
"My company is very firefighting friendly, so the ROI was immense when it came to automation and the amount of time it took to get test suites and regression set up."

Cons

"Competitors have more user friendly user interfaces and some have front end systems which are easy to toggle and manipulate."
"VSE Console should be more user friendly."
"Their knowledge management system is not up to the mark. The search functionality really needs to be improved."
"We don’t see enough value in virtualizing the services just because it requires a huge amount of maintenance and there is not much support available online."
"Scalability is the reason I rated it as 8/10. We’re going through some challenges with scalability right now."
"The concept of agent installation is a tedious process and should have been much simpler."
"The biggest challenge I've had is upgrading."
"I have noticed performance issues such as the virtual server requires a restart after using it for a certain amount of time, to make sure it responds better."
"[Tech support is] not a 10 because what happens with some of our issues is that we might not get a patch quickly and we have to hold on to an application until we get a proper solution."
"I am not sure if they have a vision of how they want to position the leads in the market, because if you look at Tosca, Tosca is one of the automation tools that have a strategy, and it recently updated its strategy with SAP. They are positioning them as a type of continuous testing automation tool. And if you notice Worksoft, particularly the one tool for your enterprise application, your Worksoft is positioning. I am not sure if Micro Focus UFT has a solid strategy in place. They must differentiate themselves so that people recognize Micro Focus UFT for that reason."
"I would not recommend this solution to others who are considering it."
"One of the drawbacks is that mobile performance testing is in need of improvement."
"It looks like User Acceptance Testing of the product is getting bypassed entirely because this design has precedence in UFT."
"Sometimes, the results' file size can be intense. I wish it was a little more compact."
"There are scenarios where the tool freezes and locks the user out."
"When I ran the script for two or three times sequentially, the tool hung and wouldn’t respond."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is a yearly licensing cost, and I would give it a four out of five."
"There are additional fees for advanced-level technical support."
"I think the pricing is quite fair because this solution provides a lot of functionalities, and is quite stable."
"I don't have the exact dollar amount, but we have spent close to $1,000,000 for a three-year agreement, for an enterprise level."
"It's an expensive solution."
"We have ALM licensing, and the tool is free of cost."
"It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
"For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
"The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
"OpenText UFT One is a very expensive solution."
"It's a yearly subscription. There are no additional costs to the standard subscription."
"The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
