Integrations Help Bring Efficiency while Documentation Needs Improvement
When I started working with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, I was new and didn't know what ERP was or its purpose, but I was eager to learn more each day. The system can become overwhelmed because you cannot control the number of integrations, and our team struggled to manage the numerous integrations we had. More documentation is needed on how to use Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and its capabilities. From a technical perspective, it was challenging because understanding the system requires familiarity with financial sectors. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central could benefit from more AI integration. Learning the application was challenging as there was much to understand about accounts payable, receivable, accounting, and general ledger.

Integration and flexibility deliver outstanding business experiences with innovative platforms enhancements
Scale is a primary concern. If the product vision continues to serve small and mid-cap companies, they need to continue incorporating features into the out-of-the-box solution because small-caps typically lack budget for in-house IT organizations to customize and maintain systems. If they want to expand beyond mid-cap and enter the large-cap market, they need to consider balance and provide more customizability. This includes extending process flows through more APIs and building a more modular architecture with granular backend exposed via API. The process layer should allow clients to customize while invoking back-office APIs. The general perception positions Microsoft Dynamics GP in the middle of the market. Systems such as NetSuite and ServiceNow occupy the lower category, providing narrow use cases. Microsoft Dynamics GP offers more breadth and out-of-the-box capabilities at a slightly higher price point. At the top end, SAP, Oracle, and Salesforce offer extensive customizability at a premium price, suitable for large organizations with multiple transactions and customers. Microsoft Dynamics GP currently occupies a favorable position in the middle segment with limited competition.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Microsoft Dynamic 365 has everything we need, like Teams, Outlook, Excel, etc. I do a lot of data visualization, so I work a lot with Power BI. I bring in tables from Oracle and use Power Bi to manipulate and visualize the data. I handle all the stats and track everything that goes in and out of the company. We use all the modules, but I work primarily with Power BI, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams. They are all equally important and work together."
"The security feature, particularly the encryption, which still builds sensitivity, is one of the most valuable features."
"The platform offers a robust and comprehensive cycle for supply chain and inventory management, with features like minimum and maximum settings, dynamic monitoring of inventory levels, and integration with Microsoft's AI capabilities."
"The solution is easy to use, flexible, and customizable."
"The most valuable feature of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is using the Excel sheets on Chrome and other applications."
"Has good integration with Power BI."
"It's quite reliable, and there's a good local provider who can adapt the solution for tax issues."
"The customer support is good. The first level of support agent in every case was able to solve the problem very quickly."
"The most valuable feature is financial control. The accounting aspect allows us to manage our clients and payments."
"The solution is easy to use and not complicated. Also, it is easy to get trained on. Also, there is good information available on the web. The GP community is quite broad and there are many blogs online."
"The system is easy to customize and has user-friendly access. "
"It is a tried and tested ERP system which if used correctly, is definitely a very good program for managing all aspects of a business from customer sales, and receivables management, to payable management and finance reporting. So, it's super critical for any mid-sized company."
"The solution offers integrations with other software as well. We have integration with Microsoft Office where we can do Word and Excel, etc."
"I haven't used it a lot, but the best thing is that the processes are very detailed."
"Microsoft Dynamics GP has strong out-of-the-box reporting capabilities, and its integration with Office 365, Power Apps, and Power Platform provides great additional benefits, helping deliver better experiences to employees and customers."
"The solution is easy to use."

Cons

"The stability could always be improved."
"Customer service and support are mixed. Sometimes the support is quick, but other times it is very slow."
"The performance and virtual machine backup is not good with this solution and need improvements."
"It could be more stable."
"Microsoft Dynamics NAV will be replaced with Office 365 in the future."
"They need to improve their processes."
"For a big company like us with millions of transactions, the scalability isn't enough."
"In the next release, I would like to see a quality check module - Navision doesn't have one, and the industry very much requires it."
"It still can be improved in web-based and build reporting. "
"There should also be extra redundancy when posting to modules. We use different sets of books such as CashBook and CheckBooks therefore if I select the wrong one the solution allows the transaction to just pass without warning."
"With payroll, the payroll that they have offers US or Canadian tax. However, here, our tax payments are different from the US and Canada. It is very difficult to put in our tax tables. We need some customization. It should be readily available for any country to use according to their tax implications. The system should know different types of tax regimes around the world so that it can accommodate. It's a little bit rigid on that."
"Scale is a primary concern. If the product vision continues to serve small and mid-cap companies, they need to continue incorporating features into the out-of-the-box solution because small-caps typically lack budget for in-house IT organizations to customize and maintain systems."
"The issue we're encountering is that it's primarily designed for independent installations and not initially structured as a cloud-based solution, which has led to challenges with connectivity."
"I would rate technical support for Microsoft Dynamics GP on a scale of 1 to 10 as six or five maximum."
"As technology changes, I would say probably in the area of chart up account needs improvement because chart up account is a string. So if they make it more flexible."
"The purchase order and processing aspects of the solution should be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is on the cloud and they provide 50 gigabytes of free space on their Microsoft Drive. The reason for this is that Microsoft is requiring you to upgrade all of your systems to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in order to effectively use the cloud. This means that if you are currently using a different version of Microsoft for a specific purpose that does not require this solution, it can be frustrating to have to spend money to upgrade to this solution just for the purpose of syncing with the cloud. Additionally, even if you do purchase Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, there can still be issues with syncing between the on-premise and cloud clients. This can be especially frustrating as the cloud storage is not free and can be difficult to access even after purchasing."
"There are two types of licenses. One is the essential license in which everything is covered, and the next is the premium. If your company is a manufacturing or service management company, then you can go for the premium license because those two modules are the premium ones. You can manage your manufacturing activities and your service activities."
"The cost is one of the benefits. If you don't want to go for the full-blown finance and operations, the pricing model is a lot cheaper and has now switched to being based on a per-user subscription. So, if it's on cloud, you now have an expense instead of a large CapEx. If it's on-prem, you obviously still have to continue with the licensing model that they have, but if you compare the features and functionality, in terms of the price that you pay, I find it's better than other products. My answer on the pricing would be slightly different, depending on the country you're in and the return on investment, based on the size of the company. It's well-priced internationally. I think the new model is priced even better because it's now subscription-based and, if you go for cloud, the return on investment is a lot quicker and if it's expense, you can cap it. If you do take the on-prem version, the licensing is still priced as what it used to be, so that would depend on what country you are in."
"The price of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central could improve. It is costly. We are paying for the solution on a monthly basis."
"$80-$100 per license, per month."
"The solution's license is costly compared to other CRM tools."
"In my opinion, the fees are reasonable."
"The solution's cost is reasonable."
"We evaluated some local products, because of the pricing, but this product has better features and support."
"For us, in our local currency, it costs us around 5 million Botswanan Pulas a year. It's quite a lot of money."
"The solution's price is steep."
"In comparison to other ERP systems, the pricing is not necessarily inexpensive, but it can be considered more cost-effective."
"Its pricing and licensing are high. Of course, we all know that it is Microsoft."
"I think the tool is competitively priced and it's more of a one-time investment with a low annual renewal fee."
"It is an affordable solution."
"I would say that the pricing is moderate, not cheap, and not expensive. There are many more expensive ERPs than GP, and there are less expensive as well, so it is moderately priced."
