Integration and flexibility deliver outstanding business experiences with innovative platforms enhancements
Scale is a primary concern. If the product vision continues to serve small and mid-cap companies, they need to continue incorporating features into the out-of-the-box solution because small-caps typically lack budget for in-house IT organizations to customize and maintain systems. If they want to expand beyond mid-cap and enter the large-cap market, they need to consider balance and provide more customizability. This includes extending process flows through more APIs and building a more modular architecture with granular backend exposed via API. The process layer should allow clients to customize while invoking back-office APIs. The general perception positions Microsoft Dynamics GP in the middle of the market. Systems such as NetSuite and ServiceNow occupy the lower category, providing narrow use cases. Microsoft Dynamics GP offers more breadth and out-of-the-box capabilities at a slightly higher price point. At the top end, SAP, Oracle, and Salesforce offer extensive customizability at a premium price, suitable for large organizations with multiple transactions and customers. Microsoft Dynamics GP currently occupies a favorable position in the middle segment with limited competition.

Newcomers benefit from automation and user-friendly integration
PeopleSoft is affordable for existing customers only, not for new customers. The popularity is declining for several reasons. Resources are moving to cloud solutions such as Workday cloud. Even though it is the same Oracle environment, professionals are transitioning due to challenges in availability, scalability, and resource allocation. When there are limited hiring opportunities for a particular technology, professionals must consider switching technologies either internally within their organization or personally. If a project ends and someone is placed on bench without new opportunities, they often need to switch to technologies with more market demand. Currently, resources are frequently moving to other ERP systems such as Workday, SAP, Mulesoft, and Salesforce, as there are numerous ERP systems in the marketplace.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The fixed assets, payroll, the data module, and user-friendliness are most valuable."
"Microsoft Dynamics GP has supported our compliance with industry regulations completely."
"I’ve implemented several hundred Microsoft Dynamics GP systems for many customers, and the improvements brought about in the client’s reporting and transaction functions are off the charts."
"We have not encountered any noteworthy scalability issues; it’s a matter of increasing the power of the servers and hardware/software that it runs on."
"Customer service is very good and technical support is very good."
"It is strong in integration."
"The most valuable feature is financial control. The accounting aspect allows us to manage our clients and payments."
"User-friendly: A key factor for a financial application Helps my company a lot"
"The time system is what we get the most benefit from."
"Its user interface is impressive."
"I think it's a very strong, solid product, very mature."
"The solution is easy to scale, expand and make bigger."
"I often say that PeopleSoft's greatest feature is how customizable it is."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its stability."
"The beauty of using the on-premises solution is having customizations according to business requirements, because business requirements are not always aligned with the out-of-the-box product."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is having the sources so that you're able to adapt the product to your needs."

Cons

"As for room for improvement, they have different modules, project and analytical accounting, but it will be good to have that kind of part in the standard package. To have that additional reporting functionality where you can add an attribute or something, which you can report again. So you can analyze the cost by not just natural accounts but also by a project, without having to go through another module edit on top and then the other module edit on top. The more modules you add, sometimes it doesn't work that well. Additionally, it would be easier to have the solution on the cloud. That's our consideration. We are trying to move all our systems to the cloud, and GP is one of them that we are going to move in the next couple of years. I would rate the solution seven or seven point five out of ten."
"The biggest problem with GP is that it's not cloud based and it doesn't lend itself to subscription licensing. But Microsoft wants everything in the cloud and licensed on a subscription basis.Even tThough GP can be deployed on a cloud server, but basically, it's a Windows based product. It uses the older model and companies purchase the program and pay a 16-18 sixteen- eighteen percent annual renewal fee but Microsoft wants everybody to pay monthly or annual renewal fees on a subscription basis."
"There should also be extra redundancy when posting to modules."
"Scale is a primary concern. If the product vision continues to serve small and mid-cap companies, they need to continue incorporating features into the out-of-the-box solution because small-caps typically lack budget for in-house IT organizations to customize and maintain systems."
"With the exception of the great deal of work we put into customizing the system for our inventory needs, the only suggestion for improvement would be to simplify even further the administration and customization side of things."
"As technology changes, I would say probably in the area of chart up account needs improvement because chart up account is a string. So if they make it more flexible."
"With payroll, the payroll that they have offers US or Canadian tax. However, here, our tax payments are different from the US and Canada. It is very difficult to put in our tax tables."
"Overall, the solution wasn't that great. The product doesn't do consolidations."
"Regarding technical support, they often discourage using PeopleSoft and push for Oracle. Many support staff are offshore and don't understand the system well."
"An area for improvement would be that it's quite difficult to learn how to use this product, and the documentation provided isn't helpful in giving you practical advice."
"The solution could have better processes and automation, or features that allow for a paperless environment."
"Mobility isn’t the greatest."
"There could be more adaptability of the system."
"We have already deployed it and we have had it for several years but we are switching to a modern HCM SaaS cloud product."
"PeopleSoft should be more flexible with the configuration. There should be less coding and more configuration."
"PCM, the procurement side, is weak and is far from the strongest product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"For us, in our local currency, it costs us around 5 million Botswanan Pulas a year. It's quite a lot of money."
"The solution's price is steep."
"Its pricing and licensing are high. Of course, we all know that it is Microsoft."
"I would say that the pricing is moderate, not cheap, and not expensive. There are many more expensive ERPs than GP, and there are less expensive as well, so it is moderately priced."
"I think the tool is competitively priced and it's more of a one-time investment with a low annual renewal fee."
"It is an affordable solution."
"We evaluated some local products, because of the pricing, but this product has better features and support."
"In comparison to other ERP systems, the pricing is not necessarily inexpensive, but it can be considered more cost-effective."
"We are a University and the cost and license are negotiated privately."
"One of the cheapest solutions available and also one of the best."
"This solution offers annual licensing. We pay per user."
"Mostly yearly payments are to be made toward licensing costs. It is not much of an expensive solution."
"I would rate the pricing an eight out of ten, with ten being expensive."
"There are no additional costs for licensing."
"The tool is expensive."
"Yearly payments are to be made toward the licensing costs of PeopleSoft. PeopleSoft is not very expensive, so I feel it is an affordable product."
