Experienced ease in automation with strong support while seeking improvements in low-code options
OpenText Functional Testing Lab for Mobile and Web offers flexibility of deployment, from on-premises to UFT One which is on the cloud. They provide capability for immediate deployment, and assets can be migrated easily. They include enablers specifically for quick migration of test assets. While I have not personally been involved in these migrations, I have observed some clients using it directly while others make a complete shift from OpenText to Tricentis platforms. There have not been many clients moving from OpenText platforms from on-premises to cloud because most shifts have been toward different product categories such as Tricentis altogether.

The solution's most valuable features are the drag-and-drop feature, keyword-driven approach, and reusability of the scripts. The solution has introduced a new feature that helps us identify objects we cannot normally identify. It gives you a fair idea of objects, resolving the object recognition issue. The solution can be used to perform different tests on different machines.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For automation testing, the tool provides the record and playback option, which helps with object detection easily."
"The product is easy to use."
"It is a complete solution for mobile application testing."
"There are numerous valuable features such as automation, the ones that facilitate importing and synchronization capabilities between our platform, Jira, and Azure DevOps."
"This helped my prior organization immensely due to the ability to remotely manipulate devices, even by offshore vendors."
"We escalate tickets to HPE, and we don't have problems."
"The pricing is great."
"The solution provides a controlled device farm with the right devices (selected based on analytics), that are readily available (can be reserved), have the right app and can be used for manual or automated tests."
"This company offers end-to-end capabilities for test suite creation and execution. One feature that I particularly appreciate is the tagging system. Tags are highly valuable, as they allow you to assign tags to your test cases. When there's an impact in a specific area, you can search for and run all test cases associated with that tag. I find this functionality very useful."
"The initial setup is pretty easy and it's quick to deploy."
"This application is helping a lot in regression testing."
"The solution has a very nice interface."
"The database checkpoints detect problems which are difficult for a human resource to find."
"The solution is great as a record and playback tool. It also has valuable regression testing."
"For us, the automated test farm of 20 virtual machines for execution, 20 TestComplete licenses and 20 automated testers are doing the job of 100 manual testers."
"I like the cross browser compatibility. It saves a lot of time re-writing scripts to accommodate different browsers."

Cons

"However, it is still a young product that is improving leaps and bounds each release."
"For the most part, the key challenge is ensuring that customers fully utilize the product as intended and adopt the appropriate frameworks to implement the solutions effectively."
"I would like to see more integration with automation tools."
"It's very new to HP. They need to go beyond the HP world."
"We need to scale devices easily. Some customers would like to loop in AWS or other cloud providers to check if their devices have the cloud factor. OpenText UFT Digital Lab needs to improve it."
"Digital Lab is a pretty solid product with areas that could be continuously improved on."
"Deployment was an issue. Each time we set it up and deployed, it failed and we had to relaunch it again."
"With versions prior to 2.0 I found that configuration was trickier than it should be, particularly with aspects such as NV."
"The licensing costs are a little bit high and should be reduced."
"It is very hard to read the test log generated by TestComplete Executor if the log file is very big. TestComplete Executor is a small tool for just running the TestComplete test framework (not for developing)."
"The solution needs Mac OS support. Right now, the solution has only been developed to accommodate Windows OS."
"There often are issues with web test execution."
"The integration tools could be better."
"Occasionally, image comparison results in failures, possibly due to issues with resolution or font size on the server side, which can be challenging to identify."
"During the distribution of our regression test cases, the control IDs are not always recognized correctly."
"The code editor, though following eclipse-style, is still a work in progress and gives a very poorly formatted code once viewed via other editing tools like Notepad++."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"OpenText UFT Digital Lab's pricing is average, and I rate it a five out of ten."
"The product could be more affordable."
"While the pricing may seem relatively high, when compared to competitors, it often falls in line or can even be more cost-effective."
"The price of SmartBear TestComplete could be less. The main challenge is when it comes to node-locked. They should use a subscription model, such as a monthly-based subscription or, a quarterly-based subscription. Their floating license is very expensive, and this high price should be reduced or provide, at a minimum, a subscription model."
"The solution's pricing is too high."
"The licensing costs are in the range of $1,000 to $3,000."
"Overall, for us, the cost of the TestComplete platform and the three extra modules is around $8,000."
"The pricing is pretty reasonable."
"The price is less, compared to other products, such as QTP."
"The product is becoming more and more expensive."
"It costs a few hundred per year, but I am not sure. It is not at all expensive as compared to other tools."
