Feature-rich, saves us a lot of time, easy to use, and professional support
Pros and Cons
  • "Jamf is stable, reliable, secure and you have lots of customization options."
  • "Jamf should give the option to download individual device policy logs, as this capability would really help to diagnose issues."

What is our primary use case?

We want to manage unmanaged macOS devices using Jamf Pro Cloud Solution. Secondly, we want to migrate Intune-managed macOS devices to Jamf Pro. We would like to comply with our company security policies that we achieved using CIS Benchmarks.

We want to manage productivity applications such as Office 365 suite apps, VPN, Google Chrome, NoMAD, and other business apps as required in real-time.

Our users want to access intranet sites, which we were able to achieve smoothly.

Finally, we are able to manage the admin rights process on macOS.

How has it helped my organization?

The very first thing is that it provided a way to manage all of the unmanaged macOS devices across the globe, which was achieved through Jamf Pro Cloud. Jamf is stable, reliable, secure and you have lots of customization options.

We are able to integrate with centralized third-party apps without any issues, which is a win-win situation for us.

Software and hardware inventory is one of the key and important factors when it comes to inventory management. Advanced search reporting is a very powerful feature of Jamf Pro Cloud and the good part is that you can also utilize the Jamf Pro Classic API with it.

What is most valuable?

Self Service is the one-stop solution for an end-user.

Configuration profiles are very helpful for implementing CIS Benchmarks, PPPC, Office apps customization, restriction, and many other cool features.

Jamf policies are a life-saver for day-to-day operational activities.

Composer is my best friend when it comes to creating any complex package. It's super easy to use.

Jamf admin is the perfect tool to upload packages and basically, it saves us a lot of time.

Jamf inbuilt FileVault is super straightforward and doesn’t require a lot of mathematical calculations to implement.

What needs improvement?

Knowledgebase articles should be introduced in Jamf Pro.

Light and dark background features should be included while logging in to Jamf Pro.

The Jamf training curriculum needs to be revisited, especially 400.

Jamf should give the option to download individual device policy logs, as this capability would really help to diagnose issues.

NoMAD is a really powerful tool and Jamf should have a dedicated support queue for NoMAD issues.

Jamf should create an inbuilt policy in case the user obtains a device, it should enroll the device automatically.

The Jamf Reset app is helpful but it’s only available only for iOS. Likewise, we should have the Jamf Reset app on macOS.

Good user interface, affordable, and great for patch management
Pros and Cons
  • "The user interface is great."
  • "The solution should offer beta testing for new products."

What is our primary use case?

I used it in a school environment where we use it to download student's profiles and keep them connected to their Outlook, et cetera.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution helps as patch management with Macs. Previously I was doing everything manually by myself. With this product, now I'm saving two hours per device and I have roughly 30 devices that I deal with, so it's saving me a huge amount of work.

What is most valuable?

I love it because there's not too much out there for Macs in terms of patch management.

They give users a huge amount of time-savings.

The user interface is great.

The solution overall is very affordable.

What needs improvement?

The solution should offer beta testing for new products.

The solution needs more demos for when new releases come out to help us understand the changes and how to use new features.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution on and off for about two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution's stability is solid. There isn't any crashing. There aren't bugs or glitches. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

On a previous project, we had about 75-80 people on the solution. On the current project the average amount of users will be 30-35. It's a bit of a smaller project.

How are customer service and technical support?

When I did have questions, the 24-hour customer service they have on offer helped walk me through a lot of things. I'm satisfied with the level of support we get from Jamf. They've resolved any issue we've ever had.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've had years of experience with Microsoft products such as the SCCM and we've used some more MBM's and mobile wiring and other kinds of solutions. We're also using Intune as well.

How was the initial setup?

We haven't set up the solution just yet for this latest project. We're going to discuss implementing it soon. However, I need the budget for it first. I'm waiting for that. Right now, we're working on a demo.

We have done the initial setup for previous projects, and as I recall, it was not complex, it was quite straightforward.

I personally take care of any maintenance needed.

What about the implementation team?

We had three days of on-site training. Jamf walks us through everything before implementation even begins so we have a good understanding of how everything works.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is pretty perfect. I like it; it's very affordable.

What other advice do I have?

I've been following the solution a lot on YouTube, as far as the latest updates, and am continuously reading new white papers on it.

The current version I'm using right now is a demo, however, in the past, I have used the on-premises version.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. If they added beta testing, I'd give it perfect marks.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Nice GUI, and the self-service feature empowers our users
Pros and Cons
  • "The design of the GUI, as compared to other solutions, really makes a difference."
  • "I would love to see an integrated ticketing system built-in, better reporting templates to help analyze the data (software usage, etc.), and integration with FREE SSL Cert (letsencrypt.org) with auto-renewal."

What is our primary use case?

Using this solution has brought order to chaos.

We use Jamf to manage labs and laptops. It was a huge pain bringing in the different Mac computers/setups/software under one roof. No one knows what life was like before automated enrollment (formerly DEP). We currently are on-premises but are strongly moving toward the cloud.

I think the price difference to NOT MANAGE our own servers is small compared to saving me hours of headaches looking for and testing solutions/upgrades.

How has it helped my organization?

Using this solution has brought order to chaos.

The biggest things that Jamf Pro has done are:

  1. Support my Tier 1 tech support to quickly help our users
  2. Empower our users to help themselves with our Self-Service portal.
  3. Save my sanity before I almost decide to change careers. I love what I do but Jamf Pro makes my job 'fun' to do, especially when the need to replicate solutions diminishes because of Self Service!

What is most valuable?

There are many valuable things in this solution.

The design of the GUI, as compared to other solutions, really makes a difference. There are other software products that we use in-house that I specifically avoid because the interface is not as easy to use, a headache for reporting and frankly, not too good to look at. GUI Design matters to me.

What needs improvement?

I would love to see an integrated ticketing system built-in, better reporting templates to help analyze the data (software usage, etc.), and integration with FREE SSL Cert (letsencrypt.org) with auto-renewal.

Wishful thinking on that last one because Jamf recently acquired DigiCert. One can only hope.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Jamf Pro for more than seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In terms of the company, I think they are going in the right direction so it seems stable. They've been acquiring smaller companies every year adding to the Jamf Pro feature market.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Jamf Pro is definitely scalable. Companies can start out with three computers and go up to ten thousand if needed.

How are customer service and technical support?

Jamf Support post-setup is reliable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use another solution prior to this one.

I was considering other solutions many years ago and it was my techs that convinced me on Jamf. After all, if they suggested it, that usually means they will use it. Any complaints usually lead me to say "You wanted it. Let's deal with it or find something better."

I'm still waiting seven years later for a 'better' proposal. ;]

How was the initial setup?

If you're new to Jamf Pro it may seem complex at first, but that's with anything new and different. Overall, I feel that the initial setup is straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We had Jamf do the setup. They contracted but I would say that the person they sent was knowledgable, efficient, and supportive.

What was our ROI?

My ROI is one hundred percent.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The setup is pricey upfront for support and setup. However, I do think it's necessary to get your environment up and running, especially if your techs have not been exposed to Jamf Pro yet.

The prices definitely could be better for smaller companies.

What other advice do I have?

My advice is to get the Training Pass. Train your staff, otherwise, you're wasting your money on any software in general (not being used).

Saves time, makes remote management easy, and helps with updates
Pros and Cons
  • "If I need to deploy an app to all the laptops, I can use the smart group I created for them instead of choosing each device one at a time."
  • "It would be great for Jamf to provide templates for commonly used tasks like updating an operating system, packaging commonly used apps like Office 365, or enabling FileVault."

What is our primary use case?

We are a small yet busy design studio. We don't have an internal IT department, so I needed a solution to standardize our Mac fleet. Jamf helped me manage our Macs, so I didn't have to install or update all the software manually.

When the COVID lockdown came, I managed all the Macs from the Jamf dashboard.

Everyone lives far apart, so being able to deploy updates was important. If someone needed a new computer, I could talk them through the process instead of doing it myself.

How has it helped my organization?

Before Jamf, I manually installed all the applications, updated the operating system, and ran diagnostics. I would go from station to station, which took a long time. I also coordinated with each user to find time for their updates or maintenance.

Now, with Jamf, almost all of it is managed remotely. I generally don't need to schedule time with the user. I program updates or new installations after hours, which works better for everyone. Now that we are working remotely, those tasks would be challenging.

What is most valuable?

Smart computer groups are one of my favorite features. You can create a group based on specific features. If I need to deploy an app to all the laptops, I can use the smart group I created for them instead of choosing each device one at a time. This also removes the possibility of forgetting to include one or more devices. Another feature I like to the ability to create and save a specific search that I need frequently. The customizable inventory page is also helpful, so you can see your inventory at a glance and sort it by a specific column.

What needs improvement?

Tool tip-type information would be helpful. Sometimes, when creating a configuration profile or policy, I'm unsure about a specific choice. It would be great to have a pop-up with links for more information on a feature.

It would be great for Jamf to provide templates for commonly used tasks like updating an operating system, packaging commonly used apps like Office 365, or enabling FileVault.

I envision a standard setup template where you could make simple choices. Since all the hardware is Apple, I don't see why that can't be provided.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for five years.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service could be improved. That said, the support has always been very helpful and responsive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did not previously use a different service; I did everything by myself.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was quite complex. Once the initial setup was completed, I found it difficult to remember the steps.

What about the implementation team?

We did the implementation in-house with a Jamf engineer.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If you are new to Jamf, take a course, or hire an expert to teach you how to set everything up. The initial jump start they suggest isn't enough.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not previously evaluate other options. However, we are looking at some now.

What other advice do I have?

Once you get it going, it's great. Their support is also very good.

Good self-service, useful patch management, and helps secure devices
Pros and Cons
  • "The self-service is invaluable to the user."
  • "Jamf needs to get an inbuilt remote support tool to allow the admin to remote into machines. At present, you can use third-party remote apps, however, a Jamf one would be better."

What is our primary use case?

We use the product in a higher education environment that was completely unmanaged before Jamf. We have 8,000 devices in total that are now being gradually enrolled.

How has it helped my organization?

It's allowed us to manage our fleet and patch management. It has secured our devices and connected with our Mac users like never before.

What is most valuable?

The self-service is invaluable to the user. It's somewhere that the user to go and get institutional resources like software, bookmarks, or IT tools to help them.

What needs improvement?

Jamf needs to get an inbuilt remote support tool to allow the admin to remote into machines. At present, you can use third-party remote apps, however, a Jamf one would be better. Currently, Jamf allowed for TeamViewer integration, however, TeamViewer is very expensive these days and not worth the money they now charge.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Jamf since August, and I'm hugely impressed by the level of detail you can configure.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Intune, which was not good enough for Macs.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Intune was evaluated as we already had it in use. However, we deemed it not suitable for our Mac estate.

DEP enrollment is quite good, and it's not that difficult to run and maintain
Pros and Cons
  • "The DEP enrollment is quite good. We're planning to migrate to the Jamf cloud this month."
  • "We had some issues with its integration with other products, such as Intune. There were some issues with the way you have to register your device into Intune."

What is our primary use case?

We use it to manage all the devices in a bank for South Africa, as well as some African countries.

We're one version behind because they just released the previous version on Saturday. So, we're just waiting for the cloud to be upgraded, and then we'll upgrade. We have an on-prem installation.

What is most valuable?

The DEP enrollment is quite good. We're planning to migrate to the Jamf cloud this month.

It is good for the management of Apple devices.

What needs improvement?

We had some issues with its integration with other products, such as Intune. There were some issues with the way you have to register your device into Intune.

In terms of new features, we're quite happy with its existing features. We do use all the new features that come out, and there is nothing specific that we require.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for more than six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is fine. We seem to have intermittent network issues, but there is nothing related to the product that we can identify.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It was very easy to scale. We have about 970 odd devices. We have MacBooks and just over 600 iPads.

How are customer service and support?

We have been in touch with them quite often. When we have issues with APIs not working, we just log our calls. We don't have any issues logging calls and getting support. I would rate them a five out of five.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have only been using Jamf. We had Casper before Jamf came out.

We also use Intune, but it is only for the registration of the device. We don't manage it via Intune, so it is just for conditional access.

What about the implementation team?

We had the vendor flown in from France to South Africa, but that was many years ago. We had the JumpStart to set up our environment. We were very satisfied with their service.

In terms of maintenance, we have a DR environment, as well as our prod environment. With the number of upgrades that Jamf pushes through, it is quite a mission to get everything upgraded. Hopefully, we will get to the cloud soon, and that infrastructure will not be on us anymore. It would be managed by Jamf.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The only thing that is kicking us a bit is the rand to the dollar exchange rate. It is priced in dollars. Every time the rand goes worse, it just costs more. I would rate it a four out of five in terms of pricing because it is very unpredictable because of the rand to the dollar exchange rate.

There are not really any additional costs. We are looking at other products within Jamf, such as Jamf Connect and possibly Jamf Protect. Our vendor is looking at the business licensing model because at the moment, it is used as a device license, not as a user or business license.

What other advice do I have?

We are very happy with the product. It works well. We're three people looking after it, and it's not that difficult to run and maintain. Some of the things always need to be changed with the new versions of macOS coming out, but otherwise, it is going well.

I would rate it a 10 out of 10. There is no problem, and it is doing well.

Saves time, improves efficiency, and the technical support is good
Pros and Cons
  • "The Smart Groups have been very beneficial for quick reporting when a critical, out of cycle patch is required."
  • "I can only say that I would love to see a more customizable dashboard."

What is our primary use case?

In my highly secure government infrastructures, Jamf is an absolute must for staying in tune with continuous monitoring (critical patching, STIG application, and reporting), especially from a central location.

When we were in pursuit of our authority to operate, we were almost shut down by a Windows-specific IA group until I explained what Jamf was and how it would help implement and prove how secure Macs can be. After that, it was a requirement for our ATO to even be considered, much less approved.

How has it helped my organization?

I am now able to easily manage all of my systems and patch when necessary, with little to no interruptions to the customer. It has saved me tons of time, as well as the IA team when I gave them rights for reporting.

Jamf Pro has helped me educate a Windows-centric agency with an Information Assurance team that is also strictly experienced with Windows. Everyone was fearful of Macs and their integration into a Windows infrastructure and domain. Jamf Pro’s similarities to Microsoft’s SCCM for Windows assets helped me prove that Macs can be as useful, if not more than Windows in some cases, and very easy to secure and keep secure, even with major upgrades.

What is most valuable?

The Smart Groups have been very beneficial for quick reporting when a critical, out of cycle patch is required.

Reporting is obviously an essential tool for any Information Assurance team and if I couldn’t provide it with Jamf, it would have been a show stopper. It is able to provide quick, dynamic, and accurate reports that helped put my department on the map within our agency and other DoD agencies nationwide.

It has allowed us to move further with our additional networks without the fear of being shut down.

What needs improvement?

Sadly, my environment is closed off from the internet so I cannot benefit from all the tools, but with what I can use, I can only say that I would love to see a more customizable dashboard.

In my agency and department, I use tons of tools for scanning, remediation, and reporting. Tools like ACAS and McAfee HBSS have very detailed dashboards if you wish to view more. As stated prior, with reporting being vital, having more detailed, customizable reports that offer graphs, percentages, etc can be useful when looking for quick glance of status when you may not have the time for generating a detailed report.

I would love a bit more of government customer support and reach out. There is a ton of support for the educational fields, understandably, but I would love to see a small team also dedicated to government support.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Jamf Pro for a little over a year in production, and almost two years in development.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

With the simple database requirement, upgrading or rebuilding is very simple. Running my servers on Macs so far, I have had very little setup or crash issues. Those few were likely caused by a bad package but again easily fixable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I love the flexibility of platforms this can be installed on. It provides ease of upgrades and migration when necessary.

How are customer service and technical support?

So far, every team that is assigned to my account has been very supportive and reaches out often just to check-in. I have sent emails late at night when testing and still got quick responses with an eagerness to help.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not used a previous solution for Macs. I also have Windows experience and have worked with SCCM. This allowed me to easily explain Jamf Pro and how it works to my Windows-centric agency.

How was the initial setup?

The engineer that came to help with setup adapted to my skill level. Parts that were complex were necessary based on the task at hand. Most of the setup was straightforward and easy to follow. We only had a development system during the initial setup, so when I was required to repeat the steps for our production, it went very smoothly.

What about the implementation team?

I implemented basically on my own aside from the Jamf admin that came to assist with the initial setup of my dev environment.

What was our ROI?

Not being the numbers cruncher guy in the office, I couldn’t say with numbers. However, I can guarantee based on the time saved and no longer needing overtime to complete upgrades, alone, we have already made our money back and then some.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

With respect to pricing, I would suggest reaching out to a sales rep and discussing all of the options. I would advise them to evaluate their infrastructure and what is required. For example, whether an on-premises or cloud-based deployment is more suitable.

Don’t go into a sales call without knowing all the details of your system because Jamf has a ton of tools outside of Jamf Pro to offer and knowing them ahead of time is a must.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I did not evaluate other solutions prior to this one. I was thrown into the job and told about Jamf from a colleague. After researching what it was and what it did, I knew it was the solution I needed to assist my department in their Mac system success.

Enhances user experience with seamless onboarding and customization features
Pros and Cons
  • "One valuable feature of Jamf Pro is Jamf Connect, which helps synchronize passwords from Active Directory to Mac."
  • "Jamf Pro should be standardized into one MDM product to make it more affordable and accessible."

What is our primary use case?

In India, most enterprise customers who adopt Apple as a platform prefer Jamf Pro as a solution. It offers a wide range of features and user productivity solutions, including Jamf Connect and Jamf Protect

Many enterprises use it to manage their Apple fleets, especially those who are premium customers and can afford the price.

How has it helped my organization?

Enterprises prefer Jamf as it enhances the user experience, especially during onboarding. For instance, branding and customization features allow organizations to centralize messaging and even play videos with CEO messages on the login window, providing a seamless experience for employees.

What is most valuable?

One valuable feature of Jamf Pro is Jamf Connect, which helps synchronize passwords from Active Directory to Mac. Another is customization and branding, which are crucial in the enterprise space, helping organizations deploy their vision on Apple devices.

What needs improvement?

Jamf Pro should be standardized into one MDM product to make it more affordable and accessible. The App packaging process is time-consuming and could be improved. Additionally, the user interface is somewhat complex for first-time users, and streamlining it could enhance the overall experience.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Jamf Pro for four to five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is excellent. I would rate it ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is also excellent. I would rate it ten out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

Once the solution is deployed and purchased, Jamf provides good support. I would rate their support nine out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Many customers already using Intune to manage their Windows infrastructure are open to exploring Mac management using Intune as well.

How was the initial setup?

The setup process is simple. However, having three different products like Jamf Pro, Connect, and Protect can complicate license activation. A centralized activation process would improve the experience.

What about the implementation team?

Many partners sell the solution and move on, offering limited resources for ongoing support, which impacts the activation and deployment experience.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Jamf Pro is considered a premium solution, and pricing can be a significant factor, especially in price-sensitive markets like India.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have conducted numerous POCs with Intune, which provides a cost-effective alternative bundled with Microsoft's volume licenses.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Jamf Pro for enterprise customers, but for those already using Intune and looking to evaluate Mac, Intune may be their preferred choice.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
