Premium, stable solution used to back up a Mac fleet which is scaling
Pros and Cons
- "My team use this solution to provide end-to-end support on our managed Mac fleet. This includes doing OS updates and upgrades, application deployments, configuration settings and outlining."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
Jamf Pro has been the best solution in the market to manage Mac fleets for our organization.
What needs improvement?
This is an advanced solution which is ahead than any other vendor. There are no particular areas for improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used this solution for one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We opted for the cloud version of this solution as it is scalable. We are currently supporting 1000 to 1500 devices and we will be scaling this to 6000 Mac devices.
How are customer service and support?
When we have needed assistance, the technical support has been good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have previously used open source solutions to manage Mac fleets but they became outdated and support was limited. We did a product evaluation for three or four different products, and found Jamf Pro the best in the market. Previously we were using Puppet and Monkey.
How was the initial setup?
It was combination of being straightforward and complex. It took some time to set up the environment because we had to migrate the configurations and applications to Jamf. This took three months.
What about the implementation team?
We had a trusted partner to do this migration, but our team worked with them for three months.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We have signed a licensing contract for three years. There is an option to buy an annual license subscription, but we opted for three years as it came with a 25% or 30% discount.
What other advice do I have?
Jamf Pro are the trusted partners for Apple. So they are the first one who implement any technical changes that Apple is making. Jamf is the first product to ensure those changes are getting replicated or getting affected and getting implemented actually in their product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to use with great patching and a simple setup
Pros and Cons
- "We found the initial setup to be simple."
- "The patching can definitely use a little bit of improvement. They should make it a little bit more automated."
What is our primary use case?
We use the product to manage everything Apple, including MacBooks, iPhones, and iPads.
How has it helped my organization?
In general, it just has allowed us to deploy Macs and iPhones easier and more securely to our end users. We can also maintain software updates.
What is most valuable?
The ease of use is very good. Patching is also really easy with the tool as well.
We found the initial setup to be simple.
What needs improvement?
Anything could always use improvement. The patching can definitely use a little bit of improvement. They should make it a little bit more automated. That's the only thing I would say could use a little bit of enhancement.
I'd like to see more security-based profiling. One of the other competitor products, Kandji, has an entire section of pre-built profiles for things like initial security requirements. You can just pick the security requirement and then implement it. You don't have to code it all up as you do with Jamf, since they don't have that feature in there right now. If you're going through major security changes in your company.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution probably for about six years at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is about 100% stable. It's the best solution in the industry.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We've had no issues with scalability. You go from a small number of devices to thousands of devices, and there's no change. There's no slowness or anything like that. It just continues to function.
We have about 700 iPhones, and about 250 to 300 MacBooks right now, and user roles range from developers to CEOs.
We will increase usage. We always have a desire to increase usage, however, we have a choice program in place for our users. Therefore, if a Windows person wants to switch, when their time is ready for a refresh, they can choose a Mac device.
How are customer service and support?
There are no issues with support. I've always had great service with them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used Workspace ONE by AirWatch for iPhones, and we switched due to the fact that we wanted a single solution to manage all the back Apple devices.
How was the initial setup?
The solution's initial setup is very straightforward. They also provide a guide for you to come in, and they help you with everything from start.
It was already in the current company I work with. It was already deployed in the previous one. We did it in a pilot project for about a month, and then we were able to move it into production pretty quickly. It all depends on your skill level. When you bring the vendor in with their sort of prep package; they do it in about four days with you.
We have a first-level service desk. We also have first-level desktop support, and then third-level would be me. I'm probably the only one with a lot of Macs or Apple experience, therefore, I'm probably the single person maintaining it other than like the basic day-to-day stuff, that the other people do.
What about the implementation team?
This is my second company using it, so I didn't really need any assistance to get it going.
What was our ROI?
ROI is always hard. With Microsoft solutions, everything's baked into your 365 licensing, including Intune. It's hard to break out the licensing, like an ROI properly due to the fact that Microsoft doesn't do that. They just have the one-time costs for everything Microsoft these days.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We only really look at the numbers once a year. I would not say it's the cheapest solution on the market, however, I would also say you get what you pay for when you sign up for any of these services. While there are cheaper ones, I would also say the cheaper ones are the cheaper ones across the board, so it's not necessarily great to go with the cheaper solution.
There are no extra fees. Once you have that in place, you're pretty much good to go.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did not evaluate other solutions before choosing this product.
What other advice do I have?
I'm just an end-user.
I would advise users to definitely go with a Cloud solution if they can. It just makes life that much easier.
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten. I've used it for a long time. I've never had a problem and it works great. That said, I could see there are a couple of little things that they could do, to definitely improve the product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

DEP enrollment is quite good, and it's not that difficult to run and maintain
Pros and Cons
- "The DEP enrollment is quite good. We're planning to migrate to the Jamf cloud this month."
- "We had some issues with its integration with other products, such as Intune. There were some issues with the way you have to register your device into Intune."
What is our primary use case?
We use it to manage all the devices in a bank for South Africa, as well as some African countries.
We're one version behind because they just released the previous version on Saturday. So, we're just waiting for the cloud to be upgraded, and then we'll upgrade. We have an on-prem installation.
What is most valuable?
The DEP enrollment is quite good. We're planning to migrate to the Jamf cloud this month.
It is good for the management of Apple devices.
What needs improvement?
We had some issues with its integration with other products, such as Intune. There were some issues with the way you have to register your device into Intune.
In terms of new features, we're quite happy with its existing features. We do use all the new features that come out, and there is nothing specific that we require.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for more than six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is fine. We seem to have intermittent network issues, but there is nothing related to the product that we can identify.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It was very easy to scale. We have about 970 odd devices. We have MacBooks and just over 600 iPads.
How are customer service and support?
We have been in touch with them quite often. When we have issues with APIs not working, we just log our calls. We don't have any issues logging calls and getting support. I would rate them a five out of five.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We have only been using Jamf. We had Casper before Jamf came out.
We also use Intune, but it is only for the registration of the device. We don't manage it via Intune, so it is just for conditional access.
What about the implementation team?
We had the vendor flown in from France to South Africa, but that was many years ago. We had the JumpStart to set up our environment. We were very satisfied with their service.
In terms of maintenance, we have a DR environment, as well as our prod environment. With the number of upgrades that Jamf pushes through, it is quite a mission to get everything upgraded. Hopefully, we will get to the cloud soon, and that infrastructure will not be on us anymore. It would be managed by Jamf.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The only thing that is kicking us a bit is the rand to the dollar exchange rate. It is priced in dollars. Every time the rand goes worse, it just costs more. I would rate it a four out of five in terms of pricing because it is very unpredictable because of the rand to the dollar exchange rate.
There are not really any additional costs. We are looking at other products within Jamf, such as Jamf Connect and possibly Jamf Protect. Our vendor is looking at the business licensing model because at the moment, it is used as a device license, not as a user or business license.
What other advice do I have?
We are very happy with the product. It works well. We're three people looking after it, and it's not that difficult to run and maintain. Some of the things always need to be changed with the new versions of macOS coming out, but otherwise, it is going well.
I would rate it a 10 out of 10. There is no problem, and it is doing well.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Its self-service feature has helped us minimize our support cases.
Pros and Cons
- "Jamf Pro is the only product we can use at the moment because they are ahead of their competitors in zero-touch deployment for the end-user. Jamf Pro has a self-service feature that has helped us minimize our support cases. That's a feature the customers like very much."
- "I'd like to see Jamf add Unified Endpoint Management, but it's not going to happen. It's too complex. We tried that for so many years, and no one can do this for Windows and macOS. It can be done with iOS, but that's not the case here. If you want device management for a real laptop operating system, you need two systems. They're very different."
What is our primary use case?
We use Jamf for zero-touch deployment and handling our customers' hardware and licenses. We use it for all the things you use device management or enterprise mobility management systems for, but it's not an inventory in our case. We use it mainly for zero-touch deployment with customers who operate worldwide and the headquarters can be in Sweden, England, or Germany, but the users are all over the world.
What is most valuable?
Jamf Pro is the only product we can use at the moment because they are ahead of their competitors in zero-touch deployment for the end-user. Jamf Pro has a self-service feature that has helped us minimize our support cases. That's a feature the customers like very much.
What needs improvement?
I'd like to see Jamf add Unified Endpoint Management, but it's not going to happen. It's too complex. We tried that for so many years, and no one can do this for Windows and macOS. It can be done with iOS, but that's not the case here. If you want device management for a real laptop operating system, you need two systems. They're very different.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Jamf Pro for nearly seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The cloud version of Jamf Pro is extremely stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Jamf Pro is scalable. We have upwards of 50 customers, one of which has 200,000 users, and it's working, but our largest deployment is about 12,000 users.
How are customer service and support?
Level 3 support is okay, according to what I hear from that department. When it's a level 3 question, no one expects that we will have the answer in one or two days, but sometimes it can take one or two weeks or even a few months. Generally speaking, we get the support we need.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We've worked with Intune. It's much harder and takes more time to provide the same level of customer experience with Intune that we can offer with Jamf Pro. We can do a lot more scripting for the end-user with Jamf Pro than we can do with Intune, and it takes more time.
How was the initial setup?
For someone who's familiar with device management and designing this type of environment, I wouldn't say it's hard to set up Jamf. It can take anywhere between two days and one month, but that depends on the type and size of the customer.
What other advice do I have?
We've been in deployment for about 12 years, and we used open-source products initially, but now we need zero-day support for Apple, and the only good product we have found is Jamf. All others have been good for one or two years, but they stop delivering and maybe disappear.
Jamf is still there after all these years, and they continue to improve the product. With Intune, Microsoft decided not to offer device management for the macOS. Instead, they chose to have Intune integrate with Jamf.

The solution's tightly integrated workflows have made it easy to deploy, manage, offboard, or reissue a device
Pros and Cons
- "Automated Device Enrollment workflows are great for zero-touch deployments, vital in the current global context. With Automated Device Enrollment workflows, we can deploy new Apple devices directly to end-users without help from the IT support team."
- "It would be nice if Jamf added an onboarding tool integrated into Jamf Connect during the automated DEP enrollment workflow. It would also improve the user experience if Jamf integrated native macOS notifications, with the option to interact within the notification center."
What is our primary use case?
Our two-person IT team uses Jamf to manage more than 10,000 macOS and iOS devices across the globe. We use it to manage all Apple devices from new mergers and acquisitions.
How has it helped my organization?
Jamf Pro centralizes management for all corporate Apple devices, and Jamf Self Service has helped us eliminate unnecessary help tickets. We opted for Jamf Cloud, which has reduced our workload because Jamf takes care of all the maintenance, upgrades, and backups.
The solution's tightly integrated workflows have made it easy to deploy, manage, offboard, or reissue a device. Jamf also offers support for the latest Apple OS and hardware on the same day they are released.
What is most valuable?
Automated Device Enrollment workflows are great for zero-touch deployments, vital in the current global context. With Automated Device Enrollment workflows, we can deploy new Apple devices directly to end-users without help from the IT support team.
Jamf Pro and Intune conditional access integration also offers secure access to corporate data. Jamf Connect allows us to integrate and manage cloud identity providers locally on Macs. We can also integrate Jamf Pro and Jamf Protect for great remediation workflows that ensure the devices stay secure and compliant.
What needs improvement?
It would be nice if Jamf added an onboarding tool integrated into Jamf Connect during the automated DEP enrollment workflow. It would also improve the user experience if Jamf integrated native macOS notifications, with the option to interact within the notification center.
The Jamfhelper tool could be enhanced with features like a progress bar, dropdown list, and shutdown deferral. Also, it would be really great if we could get an option to export policy logs for reporting purposes.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using Jamf Pro for more than seven years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Jamf is really stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Jamf's scalability is good.
How are customer service and support?
Jamf Support is great, and they provide premium 24/7 support, with a dedicated support engineer as well. It's been a great experience so far.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We formerly used VMware AirWatch earlier, but we switched to Jamf because AirWatch didn't support the latest Apple OS and hardware releases. Also, VMware's support and user community weren't as good as Jamf's.
How was the initial setup?
The initial Jamf setup was straightforward, but we had to tweak things based on our requirements and existing environment. We had help from Jamf Professional Services and Support during the initial kickstart session.
What about the implementation team?
We opted for Jamf Professional Services, and they helped a two-person in-house team, including me, implement the solution.
What was our ROI?
You'll see a return in three to five years.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
You can find Jamf's pricing online, and I would recommend contacting their sales and support staff to see if they can offer any additional discounts.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Jamf Pro 10 out of 10. It's a great product, and I think it's the gold standard for Apple enterprise management.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Owner/CEO at North Fork Holdings, Inc.
Reduces tickets, offers self-service options, and saves time
Pros and Cons
- "Jamf cut the time it takes to deploy a new machine to a new user."
- "An easier way to deploy Full OS upgrades would be a great start."
What is our primary use case?
We need remote hardware and software management. We are a half on-site half offsite workforce over two office locations. We need to be able to deploy hardware and software catered to each department at a quick pace. Jamf works perfectly for this.
The ability to script executions of CLI-based solutions is second to none.
We needed an MDM solution that would meet our InfoSec needs on data/hardware/software deployment. We also needed a way to revoke the same data/hardware/software if required.
Jamf filled all of these needs.
How has it helped my organization?
The solution allowed software deployment without having to use admin credentials and remote control sessions. Jamf cut the time it takes to deploy a new machine to a new user. We are able to group departments quickly and deploy the correct work environment every time.
Jamf also keeps a store and list of our available software titles that the end-user can choose from if needed. Once they find the title they need they can download and install it on their own without creating a ticket with the IT department. This saves us a lot of time.
What is most valuable?
The self-service portal and auto-enroll are great.
Self-service has reduced the number of your support tickets incredibly. End users are able to search for and find available and approved software and download and install it themselves. This has saved time for both the end-user and the IT department.
Auto enroll is a fantastic feature integrated into the system. We buy direct from Apple. Once purchased they are entered automatically into our auto-deploy script. It keeps our equipment safe and reduces the time from Box to EU.
What needs improvement?
An easier way to deploy Full OS upgrades would be a great start. For use to deploy Big Sur we needed a bunch of scripts and two different ways to deploy. Once Monterey came out our script no longer worked. If Jamf could work with Apple to get the App Store deployment of the OS upgrades to work that would be great.
Another feature that would be great would be a way for an App Store Application deployed by self-service to be forced to update to the latest on the App Store. Many apps, especially Office, lag behind and an uninstall and reinstall is required to fix the issue.
They need to scale the self-service header.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution for six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I have not had one problem using the Jamf Cloud solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It scales well.
How are customer service and support?
Support has been great for the few times I had to use them. They offer a very quick response.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We did not use a previous solution. We imaged all the machines.
How was the initial setup?
We used a kickstart consultant.
What about the implementation team?
The vendor we used was very capable.
What was our ROI?
I'm IT. I don't concern myself with ROI. My concern is keeping the company running. Cost is a factor, however, uptime is more important.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The cost is average. The setup is not that bad. We used one of Jamf's quick kickstart consultants to get us going.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I had used Jamf at a previous job so brought it over.
What other advice do I have?
I'd advise potential users to just get it if you manage Apple Devices.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud

Valuable geofencing and customer support with standard pricing
Pros and Cons
- "One of the key features that I liked the most and a lot of the customer value as well is the geofencing. Geofencing is geographical locations. If the device is on a particular premise, then the policy applies. And when the device is not there, the policy goes away."
- "Jamf does not go beyond Apple."
What is our primary use case?
The main use case is for device management.
How has it helped my organization?
One way the solution has improved the organization is through deployment. Deployment used to be a big hassle, and now it can be done remotely. Even before the goods are given to the customer, it is configured for them. So, when they open, it's ready for them as an enterprise. All the software is there. They just need to switch it on and it's configured automatically. They don't need to configure all security features, software, patches, whatever is there on their system. It can be remotely managed, including security, and everything is a part of it.
What is most valuable?
One of the key features that I liked the most and a lot of the customer value as well is the geofencing. Geofencing is geographical locations. If the device is on a particular premise, then the policy applies. And when the device is not there, the policy goes away.
What needs improvement?
As far as what Jamf does for a partner like us, we are happy with it. Single sign-on was something which was not there before. They have it now. The product is quite mature. What we look forward to is for Jamf to go beyond Apple. But I don't think they will go that way, because that is a differentiator for them.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with the solution for at least five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very stable. We don't have any major issues.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is very scalable. Most of the usage for this software is in education and in healthcare.
How are customer service and support?
Customer support from Jamf is fantastic. Whatever their SLA and commitments are, depending on what support package the customers wish, they're there.
How was the initial setup?
You need to have Jamf certified people on board for the initial setup. It's much easier once it is applied and managed by the IT team. It's not very difficult for them.
Deployment takes from 15 minutes to one hour, depending on if the profile is already created. It also depends on connectivity and other things.
What about the implementation team?
We deploy the solution ourselves, and we do have support from the manufacturer as well as Jamf. After that, it takes two people for maintenance of the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is on the Jamf website. It's known to everyone. They have a standard pricing model which they follow, and it's global.
What other advice do I have?
For others thinking about trying Jamf, I think seeing is believing. Look at the product and evaluate it first before going for the product. They have a fantastic team and channel partners. Businesses can always approach either Jamf or a local channel partner in their respective country, and they can go for a small POC setup which Jamf will be more than happy to do for them in their respective countries. I'm sure the evaluation, the product demo team is very good, and they should be able to take care of most of the customer concerns and whatever they're looking for.
I would rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Beneficial policies, highly stable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "I have found the most valuable feature to be the policies."
- "I think there's room for improvement on the automation. For example, uploading a package to Jamf Pro and then updating the policy and other aspects, should be automatic. For instance, if I put a new version of the software, version 11 and the previous one was 10, Jamf Pro should be able to recognize if there's an update and update the policy automatically. It's not a big deal, but I think there's room for improvement."
What is our primary use case?
I use Jamf Pro to deploy software on my computers in our school and manage them.
How has it helped my organization?
Jamf Pro has improved my organization because I can have all my computers up to date on certain software, and it's very convenient for me.
What is most valuable?
I have found the most valuable feature to be the policies.
What needs improvement?
I think there's room for improvement on the automation. For example, uploading a package to Jamf Pro and then updating the policy and other aspects, should be automatic. For instance, if I put a new version of the software, version 11 and the previous one was 10, Jamf Pro should be able to recognize if there's an update and update the policy automatically. It's not a big deal, but I think there's room for improvement.
There are a few additional features I am looking for in the next release. There should be a better way to implement malware protection. I know that Jamf is selling a product to do it, but I think a large part of it can be maintained directly inside the MDM without more cost. I think buying another software to protect the computer is a bit abusive. For instance, most of it can be done by running a script. It should be implemented in a better way.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Jamf Pro for a year and a half.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Jamf Pro is highly stable. I have never had a day of downtime since I have been using it.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have found Yannick Jamf Pro to be scalable. I can work with a very small group of computers or I can update 500 of them in a few minutes.
We have approximately 500 people using the solution and they are mainly teachers.
I use it every day and I update the software once a week. Friday is a big day for me for the usage of the solution and for the rest of the time, it's only small maintenance or emergency operations that I use once in a while. Every day I check in if I've had issues or I check the logs for problems with deployments, and so on. I check it all the time, even when I'm not working, I check it on my phone. It's very convenient.
How are customer service and support?
I have never had the need to use technical support. If I have an issue, I go to the website Jamf Nation, which is a community of Jamf users and I usually I find my solution there.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used two different solutions previously to Jamf Pro, which were MDM and FileWave. There was a third solution we were using but we had to remove it because it was bought by another software company, and it turned into abandonware. I had to look for another solution because all three that I used previously were not good solutions. Jamf Pro was a good solution.
How was the initial setup?
The installation was very easy. It was done by the software company which I work with. The implementation took one day.
What about the implementation team?
We used an integrator for the implementation and my experience with them was great.
I do the maintenance and support of the solution in my organization.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did evaluate many other solutions from different vendors. There were approximately six or seven of them. The closest one I found that met my needs was not even close to matching the useability of Jamf Pro. Jamf Pro is very focused on the Mac system, which gives it a large advantage over the competition.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend those wanting to use this solution to try out the on-premise trial version to see how it works and how you can use it to do deployments. I tried it and it was a real eyeopener. The trial is very good and done well.
I rate Jamf Pro a nine out of ten.
