You can scale the solution as needed. I keep adding access points and have never had an issue.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

When I tried Ubiquiti for the first time, I liked it immediately.

How was the initial setup?

Reliable with good capabilities and the option to expand as necessary
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution works well and in the short time I have used it, I've enjoyed its capabilities."
  • "The statistics you can get on it are a bit limited from what I have seen so far."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is primarily used for internet access.

What is most valuable?

The solution is stable.

So far, it's my understanding that the product scales to our needs.

The solution works well and in the short time I have used it, I've enjoyed its capabilities.

What needs improvement?

I'm just looking around, as I take over the position in the company. I haven't evaluated the different solutions in detail. I need more time to see if there are items I do not like.

The statistics you can get on it are a bit limited from what I have seen so far.

For how long have I used the solution?

I'm new to the company, so I don't know when they installed the solution. I've been using the product for just one month.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product has been stable so far. I haven't had issues with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I haven't seen any issues with scaling, although the solution is still new to me and I haven't tried to scale it personally.

How are customer service and support?

I've never contacted technical support. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they would be.

How was the initial setup?

As I have just started working with the organization, I was not around for the initial setup. I'm not aware of any details about the process and can't say if it was an easy or difficult deployment.

What other advice do I have?

I'm an end-user. My company does not have a business relationship with Ubiquiti.

I don't have details on the versions or the models the company is using.

I'd rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Good pricing, easy deployment, and offers nice basic features
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is not complex to deploy."
  • "There seems to be a drop in service. It's definitely a reliability or stability issue we face."

What is our primary use case?

I generally use the solution as a wireless access point.

What is most valuable?

The solution is not complex to deploy.

We have found the solution to have good standard features. I didn't find anything special or specific to like per se.

The pricing is fine. We can afford it and we enjoy the equipment.

What needs improvement?

The stability isn't so good. I didn't find it very stable due to the fact that we have had troubles with them every once in a while.

The main problem we encounter is that sometimes when we struggle, it's due to the fact that the equipment is always looking for the controller. When the controller is not there, not detectable, the equipment is unavailable, and the connection is not available. When that happens, the users are complaining. There seems to be a drop in service sometimes. It's definitely a reliability or stability issue we face.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about five or six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution doesn't have the best track record with stability. We don't find it to be very reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is slightly limited. You can have 50 users on each one, approximately. It's not as scalable as Fortinet products.

How are customer service and support?

I've never used technical support. If I have trouble with my equipment, I go to the forum and I get my answers there. With that level of assistance, I haven't had to refer to the support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very simple and straightforward. It's not complex or difficult. A company shouldn't have any issues with the process.

What about the implementation team?

We handled the deployment on our own. We don't need any assistance via consultants or integrators.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is pretty good. It's not overly expensive.

You only pay for the solution once. There isn't an ongoing license fee you have to pay on a monthly or yearly basis.

What other advice do I have?

We are clients and end-users.

I would rate the solution at a six out of ten, mostly due to the fact that we face stability issues.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Stable, scalable, and reasonably priced
Pros and Cons
  • "Ubiquiti WLAN is stable."
  • "The solution could improve by having a cloud version. A cloud version is the easiest to configure anywhere in the world."

What needs improvement?

The solution could improve by having a cloud version. A cloud version is the easiest to configure anywhere in the world.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Ubiquiti WLAN for approximately one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Ubiquiti WLAN is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of Ubiquiti WLAN is very good.

My customers are small, medium, and enterprise companies.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support could improve, they are slow.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously worked with Aruba solutions and we currently are using Quantum products.

How was the initial setup?

The installation of Ubiquiti WLAN is easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

When comparing the price of Ubiquiti WLAN to Aruba the price is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

We are working with a product called Quantum based out of Singapore and I would recommend only Quantum and Aruba solutions. There is technical support from Aruba, Cisco Meraki, and Quantum here in India is very good.

I rate Ubiquiti WLAN an eight out of ten.

If there was a cloud option and the technical support was good I would rate the solution a ten out of ten.

A cheap and easy solution for small businesses, but it lacks management and troubleshooting features
Pros and Cons
  • "Ubiquiti provides good connectivity for the end-user, so I think it's stable."
  • "Ubiquiti lacks troubleshooting tools. For example, there aren't tools that your clients can use to gather input on the AP itself. There's no visibility in the application layer or reporting. It doesn't have a lot of management features."

What is our primary use case?

Ubiquiti is mostly used in small businesses where Wi-Fi is not critical.

What needs improvement?

Ubiquiti lacks troubleshooting tools. For example, there aren't tools that your clients can use to gather input on the AP itself. There's no visibility in the application layer or reporting. It doesn't have a lot of management features.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Ubiquiti provides good connectivity for the end-user, so I think it's stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability can be an issue. It depends where you want to have the controller.

How are customer service and support?

There's no good support.

How was the initial setup?

For this particular project, I can say Ubiquiti was easy enough to set up. If you're on the same subnet layer, it is easy. The number of people needed for deployment and maintenance depends on the wireless network size. Usually, it's about one to two.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Ubiquiti has a good price compared to the other ones.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Ubiquiti WLAN six out of 10. If you want a cheap, easy solution with no reporting and easy management, go with Ubiquiti.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Good Management portal, easy to install, and scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is very easy to install."
  • "The product needs to improve the user interface in the migration from old to new versions."

What is our primary use case?

Currently, I'm mainly using it for residential and small business purposes.

What is most valuable?

It's got good performance, and I like that I can manage it remotely.

The solution is stable.

The scalability is great.

The solution is very easy to install.

The system can be configured to optimise the network security.

What needs improvement?

The new user interface could be improved - some of the features in the old UI are missing in the new UI.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for over four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable. The performance is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution can scale well. If a company needs to expand it, it can do so.

I'm an MSP, so I've deployed Unifi networks in many sites.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and simple. It's not overly complex or difficult.

The process can take different amounts of time, depending on the setup. Right now, I've got it installed on a number of different sites.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is reasonable. There are no licenses required to use the solution. That's one of the benefits of using the product.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a customer and an end-user.

I'm using a couple of different access points. The AC-LR, UAP Lite, In-Wall units and also the mesh APs, I use all lines of the access points.

I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

I'd recommend the solution to other users and organizations.

Offers free management with good documentation and an easy initial setup
Pros and Cons
  • "All of the interfacing is very good."
  • "Largely we're happy with the product, however, the firmware deployments could maybe be managed a little bit differently."

What is our primary use case?

I primarily use the solution with all of my clients.

What is most valuable?

The solution has a pretty simple approach to WLAN.

You can manage it for free. It's just a one-off purchase.

It offers a very good hotspot manager where you can manage vouchers, credit, et cetera, right from Windows. It makes it very easy.

Everyone wants to buy a Cisco or Aruba or one of the other products, due to the fact that they have all these nice features. However, at the end of the day, they never use them. Most of the clients never use the features that they're paying a lot more money for, whereas with Ubiquiti I certainly wouldn't say that is the case.

All of the interfacing is very good.

The solution offers very nice documentation.

The initial setup is quite easy.

What needs improvement?

Room for improvement could likely happen in small areas. Largely we're happy with the product, however, the firmware deployments could maybe be managed a little bit differently.

I would like it if there was a better way of integrating the hotspot manager into payment gateways. When you run a desk metric, it would be nice to have integration into payment gateways so people can buy bandwidth themselves, on your wireless network.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've only been working with the solution for about a year or so. It's been a short amount of time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. We haven't had issues with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The companies we work for range from small to large. Some are game lodges. Others are bigger organizations.

How are customer service and technical support?

I've never really had to engage with technical support. We never really had any issues. In fact, we've only had one issue and their technical support in my opinion was very good. They came back to us quickly. They didn't take a week or whatever to respond. I would say their expertise and their willingness to help and assist is definitely there. We're satisfied with the level of support they provide.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've worked with Aruba in the past. I've worked on some projects lately where you go to some clients that have Aruba installed. I just find that the interfaces, and the set-up, and the manageability of the network is pretty complex with Aruba. The license cost - to actually maintain it, is fairly exorbitant. I don't see the benefit of Aruba compared to Ubiquiti.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex. It's very easy. There are obviously little places you can play with and learn about, for example, certain little benefits and features that you can enable or disable. However, if you want to get the WiFi network going on Ubiquiti, you just follow the wizard, and everything will just happen. You don't have to get too fancy.

What about the implementation team?

We are installers. We can install the solution for our clients.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of the solution is fairly reasonable. There are other solutions, such as Aruba, that cost much more, and I don't see any extra features and benefits that a client gets for the cost difference.

What other advice do I have?

We are resellers and installers.

My advice to other companies considering this product would be to get a consultant in order to do a proper site survey. Planning is super-important, no matter what device or product you ultimately choose. At the end of the day, if you don't plan properly then you can't expect the deployment to be rolled out properly. You need to do proper feasibility on-site. You need to make sure that the areas that you want to be covered will be covered properly.

This product is pretty easy to get set up and get going. For that reason, I'd rate it at an eight out of ten.

Cost-effective, scalable, but lacks features
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution is scalable."
  • "I have found they need to work on the stability of the solution."

What needs improvement?

There are some connectivity issues that need to be resolved. Additionally, the frequency has to be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have found they need to work on the stability of the solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

The customer service is good.

What about the implementation team?

I have one or two technicians that do the implementation of the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is a cost-effective solution.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have evaluated Aruba and they have a lot of enhanced features this solution does not.

What other advice do I have?

I am not going to use this solution anymore in the future, I am going to use Aruba. However, I do find this solution cost-effective, it could be suitable for those who do not need some of the advanced features competitors have.

I rate Ubiquiti WLAN a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
