The framework provided has good recovery mechanism and exception handling capabilities built in. It can be customized based on the requirements and provides an easier start for implementation and to showcase in a presentable manner.

What is most valuable?

  • Excel automation: It has activities related to most of the functionalities in Excel and makes life easier for anyone who spends a significant amount of time in Excel for analysis and reporting.
  • PDF automation: It performs well in reading native PDF documents.
  • Email automation: It integrates well with IMAP, SMTP, and POP3 apart from supporting Outlook and Exchange which are used extensively in large corporations.
  • Web automation: The use of UiExplorer in extracting the properties of web elements and easy modification to improve the re-usability of workflows.
  • Windows automation: It works well with Windows-based apps for updating information received in Excel spreadsheets and to capture the information and reports generated in the apps.

When it comes to RPA, the scalability and adaptability with minimum inputs provided are paramount

What is our primary use case?

POC and implementation were done for the in-house team, automating the penalty system of transportal services where the penalty on a no-show user is being calculated, and every user is intimated the monetary value of a no-show. This is then intimated through the mail, and also, the list of such users is sent to the payroll department to debit the penalty from the monthly payroll. Windows Server 2012 was used and some PowerShell scripting apart from UI automation using UiPath.

How has it helped my organization?

As mentioned above in the use case of the in-house development, it really improved the way the organization was doing earlier.

What is most valuable?

When it comes to RPA, the scalability and adaptability with minimum inputs provided are paramount.

UiPath is easy to use with minimum inputs given, and that's the best part of UiPath as an RPA tool.

Apart from it, the free e-learning videos UiPath Academy is offering is of very much help for the enthusiast and learners. It's a great idea that the UiPath team started and that's the best part where learning a tool is provided free of cost, that too with the diploma.

What needs improvement?

UI automation is perfect, but the scripting part could be improved. Let's say we need to run some scripts on some server, so the command being sent and the response received over the activities could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

I like the partnership with state-of-the-art applications such as ABBYY or Microsoft OCR

What is our primary use case?

Fast-tracking the interfacing between an in-house planning application and an international partner's planning application.

Using RPA to do check and balances on invoices, and consequently uploading this data to a tax engine and extracting VAT, European sales listing and Intrastat reports. Finally, these reports are uploaded to the dedicated web portals.

Extracting handover data of wagon from a data lake and entering it into the follow-up application, since there is no direct integration yet.

How has it helped my organization?

Via UiPath, we were able to save a workload equivalent of multiple FTEs, which can now be directed at other more important tasks.

What is most valuable?

  • The community edition
  • The partnership with state-of-the-art applications such as ABBYY or Microsoft OCR.

What needs improvement?

  • When automating complex projects, the application becomes sluggish due to the interfacing load.
  • Licensing model is too complicated and has a lot of room for improvement.

One great feature which is relatively simple is its ability to pause a recording and resume it

What is our primary use case?

I wanted to learn this platform to widen my breadth of knowledge and to have more options in my RPA toolbox.

How has it helped my organization?

I am using it to help individuals, entrepreneurs and enterprises achieve the throughput, accuracy and additional capacity they require. I recently certified on the platform and find it quite satisfying to work with.

What is most valuable?

One great feature is relatively simple, and that is the ability to pause a recording and resume it. When debugging UiPath's ability to slow down its execution speed, visually identify UI elements it's interacting with while simultaneously showing the activity line it is working on is priceless. Coming from a lean process improvement background, I can appreciate this being implemented in a software application.

What needs improvement?

  • The ability to search for activity lines in your code in the outline view would be great. Just type, and it would filter it in a way that you could click and jump to it.
  • It would be nice to have a centralized debugging tool for issues with arguments passing (missing/type) so as to easily detect problems.

For how long have I used the solution?

Less than one year.
Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer. In the near future my organization will be engaged in training on this and competing platforms.

Its recording feature is one of the best features along with its pricing

What is our primary use case?

  • Automating applications that the client requires in the project
  • Mostly automating day-to-day tasks which are like user-setup, user termination and password-reset in an application.

We use the 2018 version. The community of UiPath is very supportive and active; that makes it very much understanding.

How has it helped my organization?

It made automation very easy with the help of experts from UiPath. Using this tool made a very easy way to automate the applications that our organization uses daily like time filling. For the beginners, UiPath provides a platform which helps them to have a better understanding of UiPath. Also, it has a community edition that helps to have a good hands-on experience for a beginner.

What is most valuable?

The OCR capability of UiPath makes it special as this feature was not in my previous automation tool. When I started using this tool, it made it compatible with automating some complex applications like reading PDFs, virtual machines and some more Citrix applications that were hard to automate using other tools. Its recording feature is also one of the best features along with its pricing as it charges money as per robot usage by the Orchestrator.

What needs improvement?

The tool is perfect as it is a full-on package, but yes it needs some improvements like when we use the OCR feature of the tool it works, but when we try to fetch the data from the image which is of low resolution, its accuracy of fetching the data decreases. Sometimes the data gets some garbage values added to the data that is fetched. This needs some improvement. Also, if the page has some dynamic background, then fetching the data becomes harder.

Desktop automation features and API services are valuable features

What is our primary use case?

  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Automating the process of extracting data from vendor invoices and onboarding it to the company's financial application.

How has it helped my organization?

  • It's easy to use and develop the solution, and simple to deploy.
  • It's way too expensive for small or mid-tier organisations.

What is most valuable?

  • Desktop automation features and API services
  • Email services
  • Third-party vendor integrations, and
  • The community.

What needs improvement?

Pricing and addition of new cutting edge features which it misses from its competitors. If the pricing of the tool is reduced, it would be a big sell for the company.

For how long have I used the solution?

Data scraping is used to extract tables in web applications, but the selector fails in iterative action

What is our primary use case?

Automating PDF documents, data extraction, and using it as an input to web applications with efficient time management.

How has it helped my organization?

Now we have vendor PDFs that are automated by UiPath which reduce the cost and save time on a three-FTE basis.

What is most valuable?

Data scraping is used to extract tables in web applications and provide iterative action to the tables based on the conditions.

What needs improvement?

Selector fails in iterative action so the next release must focus on selector related issue, and also, improvement is needed in its stability.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Poor stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the product is good during deployment.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We switched from AutomationEdge because of vendor issues.

What was our ROI?

$100k.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I'm most concerned about Orchestrator's price.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

ROI and scalability.
