Clunky with poor interface, lacks sufficient functionalities; it did reduce need for in-person meetings
We're phasing out the use of GoToMeeting because of some of its deficiencies. It lacks ease of connectivity, calendar integrations, and third-party app integrations. The user interface is quite poor and needs to be reworked and the product is quite clunky in comparison to its competitors. It currently lacks the ability for sharing collaborative materials during a meeting. We also found that the ability to switch between audio and video configurations isn't as intuitive as in other applications. I generally do 20-30 hours of video conferencing a day, so it makes a difference to have these features. It doesn't integrate as easily into phone systems as well as other organizations and it doesn't integrate as easy into instant messaging and collaboration tools or into software solutions. In general, some of the functionalities need to be improved.

I would definitely want the chat in Zoom to be improved. I have seen areas of improvement in Zoom regarding the noise suppression setting. Sometimes I talk a bit low pitched and the other person cannot hear me. I'm guessing the noise suppression detects my voice as background noise instead of my actual voice. It might be a setting that I just need to tweak somewhere in the settings window. I haven't had the time to check that out yet. It happens from time to time; it's not crucial, but I check that the other person hears me by asking them if they heard what I just said. It occurs at least once daily, so it's not bothering to me, but to someone who is a bit more sensitive, it may be bothersome. I find it hard to tell if there has been any return on investment with Zoom because I'm not dealing with the financials of our organization. I guess it helped us because whenever there's an incident at night and people need to synchronize to find out what's going on, they enter Zoom and talk to each other.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"GoToMeeting is very handy. It's good software. I would definitely recommend it."
"We like that this solution allows us to assign separate numbers to people without having to have a physical telephone system in place."
"We can record meetings and share the screen with participants."
"GoToMeeting's low latency is crucial because everybody is using VPN to connect to their PCs at work. The sound and video quality are solid, and the whiteboarding features were especially useful. The administrative side of it was fairly simple and intuitive to use."
"It was just chosen because somebody at the company said, "We need a meeting thing. Hey, go find a meeting thing." It wasn't me, but somebody else in the organization was like, "Alright, let's use GoToMeeting. It's free.""
"The key advantage of GoToMeeting is the ability to use it without installing anything."
"The most valuable feature is the dial-in capability."
"Even for somebody who does not have a lot of experience, they can easily use it."
"The most valuable feature is that it's free."
"It functions well. I have had no issues with attaching files to chats."
"Zoom has a security feature that allows only authorized participants to join the meeting."
"The solution is very stable."
"The high capacity means that you can have a lot of people in the same meeting. I once attended a meeting with approximately 400 people."
"Zoom helps you to share your screen and allows someone to take remote control during Zoom meetings. Compared with other platforms like Teams and Webex, it's on par."
"The initial setup is straightforward as this is a cloud application. It only takes a few seconds."
"I rate Zoom as a seven out of ten. This is because it is much easier to use than Microsoft Teams."

Cons

"In addition to the features it already has, I think GoToMeeting should also have additional features that are not present at the moment."
"GoToMeeting is too slow, which is why we no longer use it."
"It is not so stable."
"The product itself doesn't stand out against other options on the market."
"Sometimes we'll run into issues where firewall rules aren't set correctly and won't work."
"In the next release, I would for it to incorporate files more efficiently from one computer to another when we covert things and send them out. I'm not sure if it's capable of that."
"Using GoToMeeting in a meeting-sized conference room is kind of a letdown. The camera is supposed to track the speaker and focus on that person so that they can be on the screen. That feature rarely worked. We tested it thoroughly, so maybe it was an issue with the size of the conference room. It may not be suitable for large conference rooms."
"Poor error recovery, too sensitive to transmission errors. Needs better codecs and more robust system software that can handle network glitches."
"Nothing is 100% perfect. If I appreciate a product, I typically rate it eight or nine out of ten."
"The virtual background could be more smoothly integrated with the rest of the software."
"They should improve the sharing file features from accessing the internal network. If we cannnot share our documents through this meeting, our meeting productivity will decrease dramatically. We need these features."
"One of the main concerns is the difficulty of using it on your mobile device."
"The pricing model for Zoom was not very friendly."
"Zoom has frequent updates, occurring every week or twice a week. This poses a significant issue because sometimes when we attempt to initiate a call, the system begins an upgrade process, taking at least 30 seconds and sometimes up to two minutes. This unscheduled upgrade can be inconvenient for users, as they must wait for the update to complete."
"Zoom should continue to add new features to the product."
"When you join a meeting in Zoom, you may feel it is difficult to find some windows until you click a few buttons to help you eventually get to the window you want to see."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a little expensive although now, with the competition from Zoom and other products, they have lowered their prices and it is better."
"Negotiate for discounts."
"GoToMeeting is a little bit expensive compared to other products."
"Zoom is available with an open license that can support meetings of up to 40 minutes."
"We are using the free version of Zoom."
"Zoom is a very cheaply priced video conferencing solution, and using this product has saved our business a lot of expense."
"I believe that all of their licenses are purchased, so that they may use the solution for their teaching purposes."
"The cost of Zoom has led me to use WeChat, instead."
"The solution is affordable."
"The free version has a time limit, but paid subscriptions are available."
"We do not incur any licensing costs, as we use the free version."
