Creating internal architecture content has become smoother but embedding linked diagrams still needs work
I'm not currently working with IBM, IBM Controller, or other IBM tools. I still do a little bit of work with my previous company, but it's very minor. I don't work with any software or solutions outside of personal productivity suites such as Microsoft Office and things of that nature. I use Microsoft suite, Exchange, Teams, and so on. Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is more accessible for the average user, but it lacks certain features that more advanced users would look for, making it seem unnecessarily complicated to do simple things or things one expects to be simple. I'm not directly involved in pricing and licensing, but I work closely with people who are, and my company has a third party to help manage licensing. I don't have the impression that Microsoft is regarded as particularly expensive. The product was licensed directly from Microsoft. I would give Microsoft Office SharePoint Server a rating of seven points on a scale from zero to ten, where ten is the best.

I think we should have some improvements in Yammer, similar to what we have in Facebook and others, where we can have targeted communications, so that we can filter some communications to go to a specific subset of that group, not to everybody. We would love to have some AI technologies included in Yammer, but I do not have a specific use case in mind right now.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The integration with security tools in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is one of the significant pluses since it alerts the IT team if anyone tries to redirect an email, which is illegal for us."
"Essentially, it is the full suite of Office 365 with the advantage of using the SharePoint database as your list."
"I would recommend this product."
"What I appreciate most about Microsoft Office SharePoint Server is how it centralizes information and collaboration in one place."
"Sharing information is the best feature or advantage of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server based on my experience."
"I like the collaboration, the ability for multiple users to work on a single document and be able to firstly collaborate and share notes about the document, as well as being able to work on the document without losing the information."
"Because of the integration of documents stored in SharePoint to be edited by any of the Office Suite products, that overpowers and is a greater good than what DocuShare brought to the company."
"The solution's most valuable aspects are its collaboration capabilities, its communications site and the innovation within the product itself."
"The initial setup was simple and straightforward."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to reach all parts of the organisation to share ideas and best practices."
"From the point of view of knowledge sharing, we created a group per project, and while we had SharePoint for storing documentation, we were able to link to these and give them content in Yammer."
"Co-workers feel comfortable creating groups for collaboration, communication, and non-work related, personable groups."
"Messaging and groups are the most valuable features."
"Yammer brings in the most relevant posts to the users."
"The tool allows us to post and keep track of company buzz and events without relying on email."
"We can send out notifications and ask questions using Yammer."

Cons

"From Microsoft, the support normally takes longer than we need and it's not a route we appreciate."
"Searching information internally in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server could be better because when we get a lot of information, it is difficult to find."
"Many of our customers would like to see an OCR feature, so it would be very good to have this in a future release."
"Regarding the setup for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, I have to rate it lower, maybe a seven out of 10, as it is a little bit more complex and not so easy to use in some use cases."
"The UIs are really clunky and Microsoft needs to fix that."
"Microsoft Office SharePoint Server could be improved in terms of its user interface. While it is easy to work with, it could be more intuitive and could look more aesthetically pleasing."
"However, when I migrate, a tenant-to-tenant migration presents a challenge to move SharePoint files easily to another tenant because we are using a third-party tool for this migration."
"The search functionality on the on-premises version is not very good."
"They need to somehow enable better document sharing features. They need to provide joint drafting of documents."
"I'll give it a six out of ten because I'm comparing it to what's out there."
"I've found Team or Skype for Business are more useful than Yammer."
"I would give the technical support a rating of 3/10."
"Yammer should be able to integrate with Microsoft products, such as Outlook."
"It just needs a more defined roadmap."
"I would rate the stability of Yammer as six out of ten."
"I think we should have some improvements in Yammer, similar to what we have in Facebook and others, where we can have targeted communications, so that we can filter some communications to go to a specific subset of that group, not to everybody."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Pricing plans may be flexible depending on volume usage and your corporate relationship with Microsoft."
"There are some aggressive discounts offered by Microsoft for organizations that are not for profit, which we are, and it makes it quite attractive to consider."
"It can be expensive for on-premises deployments, especially when you have to support SQL Server as your backend database. That's where the cost comes into play. SQL Server has its own licensing, which Microsoft keeps on changing. Therefore, it can become costly. In the earlier versions of SharePoint, version 2007 or 2010, they had an express version where the SQL Server licensing was free. It wasn't like a full-blown SharePoint. It was only a slimmed-down version. It used to be whatever your hardware costs. You would install the free software and work with it, but you were very limited in what you could do in SharePoint. If you wanted the SharePoint Enterprise Server with all the bells and whistles, then you had to pay more to get the SQL Server license based on the number of users or servers. The subscription model is different for cloud deployments. Licensing is per user and per month. The cost also depends on the storage required. If you have a lot of sites or documents, then you need to expand it based on your needs."
"One of the reasons why we don't recommend the cloud version of SharePoint is the cost. With the on premise version, you pay for the license once. For the cloud version, there is a recurring fee. It is very expensive. They expect everyone to pay $20 or $30 per user per month."
"I don't know about the pricing. Now that Microsoft has bought Yammer, it should be a part of our subscriptions for Office 365."
"Yammer is a pretty cheap solution, and it's included in multiple subscriptions."
"I think that there is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs of the solution."
"The pricing is not bad."
"We get it as part of our Office 365 subscriptions, so I don't think we pay any additional cost for Yammer. It's included in the Office 365 subscriptions."
"Its cost is included in the license bundle for Microsoft."
"Compared to other products like Amazon, Yammer's pricing is fine."
