Configuration tasks like workflows and organization structures are handled by partners like Triad. Unlike traditional software, Oracle doesn't require deploying databases, making it hassle-free. The timeline for implementation varies. Simple processes may take three to four months following the Oracle Unified Method. However, more complex modules like manufacturing could extend to around six months. The duration also depends on client involvement, from gathering requirements to user acceptance testing. It is a collaborative effort with both the partner and the client. I am involved in troubleshooting and providing Managed Services and SNA. After a system goes live, clients often need ongoing support, especially if they lack a dedicated IT team. We step in as tier one or tier two support, offering what some call "day two services." It is a crucial part of our service portfolio and ensures comprehensive 360-degree support for our clients.

Currently, we are upgrading the software. We contacted Oracle to upgrade the tool. I would recommend the solution to others, but we faced some issues. We couldn't upgrade to the latest version. We don't have the latest version of the database or application.

Our company uses the solution full function that includes financial, procurement, and posting. We have the solution on-premises but imitate it to the cloud. We have more than 200 end users across our organization.

The system has bugs, is not user friendly, and requires too much customization. I consider the solution open source with full customization, but ours was not done correctly at the beginning because we still have many issues. We always need consultants to do changes or corrections. We are eight years after implementation but we still have system bugs.
For example, we have the option to assign serial numbers for accounts payable and receivable vouchers. We have to select manual serial numbers and change the numbering every year. It is not logical to have two different vouchers for two different vendors but both with the same serial number unless you manually change them. Something happened during implementation that allows this to occur.
For another example, we have some approval hierarchies in the system. If someone delegates an action, the system sometimes jumps to the next approval and ignores handling the delegated action.

How was the initial setup?
The setup was difficult. Implementation happened prior to my tenure at the company but colleagues said it took a long time and much effort.
To this day, we still have opening balances in some modules that are not configured so they don't match the GL. We have to add data, ignore some periods to match the GL, and export data to Excel to work on it. The solution itself does not provide enough reports or analysis and we have many, many issues. It doesn't seem that the implementation was a success.
Based on feedback from colleagues, the setup is rated a one out of ten.
What about the implementation team?
We implemented the solution with assistance from developers and a consultant. The process was gradual and took three years. We implemented some modules and then continued to others. We found issues and had to fix them along the way.
Our consultant was not dedicated to the project. He was an external resource, busy with another customer, and only worked part time on our implementation.
We need an experienced consultant to focus on these issues, investigate them, and fix them. We have many bugs and issues that shouldn't happen in the solution.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
My current company uses the solution. I assume it was selected it because it was very common at the time. It also has the strongest financial modules and database.
I am shifting to a startup company that needs a good ERP system. I am evaluating Odoo and Microsoft Business Central. I have not yet decided but will probably choose Odoo.
Zoho is fine for small businesses such as service companies that don't have many departments or dimensions.
What other advice do I have?
Small and medium enterprises do not need the solution. Big companies might want to think about whether to use the solution because there are other options like SAP and Microsoft.
The solution offers Oracle Cloud but it operates on the same concept. Transferring or dealing with data is very old fashioned. Each module has a different database and you need to transfer data from AB to GL to run reports, create recurring reports, or create recurring processes. This is a very bad setup. Even in the cloud, you have to post entries in payroll or AP and transfer the journal to the GL to see live or trial balances. There are no automatic dashboards or live reports.

We were using different solutions in silos. For example, there was one for inventory called Maximo and another for finance. All those systems were in silos, so we wanted to replace them with a single ERP system that offers a 360-degree view of data and precise reporting without the need to change many things in the data.
We wanted to avoid many manipulations by manual editing errors. Having everything in one system gives you complete native automation built into the system.
How was the initial setup?
It was not complicated, but you need a business analyst to bridge the gap between the implementation team and the business team. We had around three people on our team. We still haven't fully deployed it, but the expected duration is about nine months.
It's not implementation time per se. It's more like evaluating the solution to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the product. After deployment, you don't need to maintain anything. Some change requests crop up now and then from the business team. They ask us to adjust the business rules or transfer the approval authority from one person to another because someone has left the company or gone on vacation.
You need someone with technical expertise, and Oracle-certified engineers are somewhat costly compared to other ERP products. For example, there's a German ERP product with an easy mechanism that allows any software programmer to change the configuration. Still, Oracle, SAP, and Microsoft Dynamics require certified professionals to change the configurations.
What about the implementation team?
We used an integrator because we lack in-house expertise with Oracle ERP.
We have a technical team and a business analyst, but we don't have the knowledge to handle Oracle ERP onboarding.

When we evaluate a solution, we assess whether implementing it is useful for the business. You can gain many benefits in terms of productivity and operations by using an ERP solution. Oracle has advantages over other products because they are well established and mature in the market.

I don't know the precise details about pricing because I am from the project management side, and another team handles procurement, but if I had to estimate, I would say it's probably around eight out of 10 for affordability.
Of course, it depends on which modules you select. There is not standard price. You need to dig into the exact pricing for your requirements. It's not a single one bundled. There is a named user license plus some module licenses.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Oracle E-Business Suite eight out of 10. I believe going to the cloud is much easier and faster. I advise people not to make a lot of changes initially. Implement it the way it is in the first round so you can leverage the benefits immediately instead of adding a lot of customization in the Oracle ERP.

The product is stable, but with the passage of time, if you leave some kind of new feature and apply and customize the product, then you have to patch the product.
For example, we raised the request to the Oracle technical team, and the technical team recommended and applied the dispatch; the issue will be fixed. So, we are continuously applying the patches.
But this is a continuous process. Nothing is 100%. Everything is streamlining with passive providers, even in Microsoft, Oracle, EVS, etc. Patches are there, and bugs and fixes are there. We continuously apply everything.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I simultaneously worked with SQL Server from 2000 to 2004, 2008, 2017, and 2019.
Oracle E-Business Suite is a complete business suite, while SQL Server is only a database. All customized applications in front-end development use SQL. If they have a high budget, they use Oracle.
We have over 200 customers and use a variety of solutions on Azure, including SQL Server and Oracle E-Business Suite. We primarily provide technical support for our customers.
How was the initial setup?
Oracle is a vast domain. For a skilled person, it is not complicated, but for a new person, it is a bit complex.
There are OS and EBS within compatibility libraries. Most issues and bugs are due to the compatibility of configurations. Otherwise, it's not so difficult.
What about the implementation team?
For deployments, we have streamlined the processes and migration. We have also streamlined the migration process, whether it is a VM migration or either it is cloning. We streamline everything.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's pricey. Oracle's pricing is on the higher end, but it is justified given the product's maturity, stability, and feature set.
What other advice do I have?
I have been working with Oracle E-Business Suite for the past 10 to 12 years. There are always some bugs and missing patches, so I would rate it a nine out of ten. Also, they have fixed it, but with the passive time after month-to-month payments, we have to beg to apply the patch to the product. That is the main thing we are missing.
I would like to see Oracle E-Business Suite include all the necessary patches and fixes in the main product instead of requiring customers to pay for support for each one. This would make it easier and more efficient to customize the product to meet specific needs.
