We use this solution to review processes the parent company implements in China. Extra configurations on the system are included based on optimization proposals, and we can optimize the functions to the requirements. In addition, I work as a certified MM consultant and have access to minimal usability functions.
Senior Officer ERP at Swakop Uranium
Excellent and straightforward solution with great optimization capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "The implementation is very straightforward."
- "A valuable feature is the application of customer feedback to improve the system by the retailer, and millions of dollars have been saved doing this."
- "The system is over-customized."
- "We have never had a bad experience with this solution, except for how the system is over-customized."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
A valuable feature is the application of customer feedback to improve the system by the retailer. Millions of dollars have been saved doing this. Improvements relating to costing structures can be made, and the system usability from on-premise to cloud and the terabytes and gigabytes required in the system have dramatically reduced. An example is working in the MM area with the system. Only a simple vendor had master data and many tables. From 40, the SAP on the cloud or the HANA version has reduced it to two tables. So it's a significant decrease still growing. By applying customer feedback, they have improved as retailers of their products.
What needs improvement?
We have never had a bad experience with this solution, except for how the system is over-customized. When customizing, it bypasses the standard protocols, and SAP is not a very dynamic system. It's static, and rules drive it. So when the system does not allow the creation of custom codes to bypass protocols, it becomes slightly offsetting because the system no longer functions as an SAP system. This information is based on the current features provided at our company.
Additionally, we would love more integration with the functions we need. For example, the core SAP is minimal. It runs basic things, but we would like the inclusion of contract management and warehouse management in the deployed standard releases and not as add-ons. The add-ons are costly, and companies don't want to purchase them. However, if the add-ons were free, it would be great.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for about 28 years. We use the ECCC enhancement package seven.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable. For example, you'll have issues if you don't do your patches regularly in other software. However, for this solution, the production environment is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable. We can add users to the system without issues, but getting them loaded on the system requires approval. When you load a user on SAP and understand what the user is supposed to do, it takes you about five minutes to load the user. Currently, we have about 638 users on the system, and about 60% are active users. Currently, we have about 638 users in different roles on the system.
How are customer service and support?
I rate my experience with customer service and support as excellent. The one time we reached out to them for issues, they were efficient in their responses and response time.
How was the initial setup?
The implementation is very straightforward when implemented directly with the right team. However, if you are migrating from another system, the implementation is more difficult because you have many compatibilities, and the deployment timeline varies. For example, in one of the companies I previously worked at, we started in 2004 and ended in 2008, but other issues elongated the process. As a result, we did the complete handover in 2008. At another company, we began in 2014 and ended in 2016. However, they were already using the system, but it wasn't fully deployed until 2016, as the modules were completed based on business requirements.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
From my perspective, when you deploy it, the SAP instantly comes with several users and a pre-given user license. Each additional user added charges differently, and additional license fees are applied. Regarding HANA, there is a split in finance core asset management, inventory management, and supply chain, and they have buckets with the ERP on the previous version. There can also be add-ons. However, the standard things required by the business must be structured together and not charged as stand-alone as they are now with the HANA cloud versions.
Currently, the estimate for the license per user is between 20,000 to 40,000 USD. Although I am unsure of the exact number it costs in that range, every time I request a new user, I have to justify the need to my company because they claim it falls in that range per user license.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We chose this solution because of its stability, and the system offered everything we wanted. In my company, I primarily research IFS, and this solution was the first time I heard of IFS and SAP because they met all our work requirements. Since we work in mines, we use different systems like geology, metal and accounting, and they need to integrate with SAP, and SAP is very flexible for that.
What other advice do I have?
I rate this solution a ten out of ten. I'll advise individuals who want to use this solution for the first time to ensure they get the right team to implement it. It might be expensive, but I'll advise them to use the SAP team because SAP regularly deploys the best staff. The experience throughout the project is super. Most times, end users get disappointed in system performance or the scalability of the system function because of the implementers. Once you have a good team and project manager, you can meet timelines and deliverables and have a smooth implementation process. It takes under six months to implement SAP fully with the right team. This solution is good but can improve by including more integration functions in the next release.

A highly scalable and stable tool to improve business processes
Pros and Cons
- "SAP ERP's interface is pretty easy nowadays, as it has evolved over time and has been made as user-friendly as a person would like it."
- "SAP ERP's initial setup phase needs to be simplified."
What is our primary use case?
My company's clients use SAP ERP to improve their business processes, aligning the company's finances and inventory management. The tool also helps my company's clients to meet the regulations and compliances of the government or the countries where they operate.
SAP ERP is useful to make business processes more efficient and to bring in better controls within an organization.
What is most valuable?
It is the business process that SAP ERP captures very well as it supports the business process and evolves with the organization. Being one of the oldest ERP systems, a company can buy SAP and use it for the longest time they can think of, and they don't need to change the ERP system, which is one of the biggest advantages SAP ERP offers.
SAP ERP's interface is pretty easy nowadays, as it has evolved over time and has been made as user-friendly as a person would like it.
What needs improvement?
SAP ERP's initial setup phase needs to be simplified.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using SAP ERP for more than twenty-two years. My company has a partnership with SAP ERP. My company also resells products offered by SAP.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
There are multiple partners of SAP providing customer support service to users, so their quality differs from one another.
I rate the technical support an eight out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
I rate SAP ERP's initial setup a seven to eight on a scale from one to ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy. It is not easy to implement SAP ERP because it's not a one-sided affair and requires joint efforts from SAP's partner and the tool's customer, making it a two-way effort or a joint effort. If you use SAP ERP with SAP Best Practices, then I would rate the initial setup a ten out of ten.
SAP offers users multiple options and allows SAP ERP to be deployed on the cloud. SAP ERP's latest or newer versions are all on the cloud, but it can also be deployed on an on-premises model.
The solution can be deployed in four to five months.
Depending on the requirements of my company's client, the product's deployment team varies anywhere between five to twelve people.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I rate the product's price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive. SAP ERP is a costly tool. If you compare SAP ERP with its competitors like Microsoft or Oracle, then you may find that the products from SAP are a little bit cheaper when compared to the tools offered by Oracle. Compared to Microsoft, SAP is expensive.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
If I compare SAP ERP with its competitors like Microsoft or Oracle, then I rate SAP a ten out of ten, but the ratings may vary depending on the industry where SAP is used. Considering the manufacturing and distribution sector, I rate SAP a ten out of ten, but if you use SAP in the banking and financial sector, then I rate it a seven out of ten. Different industries have different preferences.
What other advice do I have?
I think SAP ERP is a complete tool. SAP offers the ultimate ERP solution they shift to, especially when they want to move to a better solution. SAP ERP gives users flexibility. SAP ERP is good the way it is currently. The ecosystem of the tool is good. There are many SAP partners across the world who can support SAP's customers. Over time, SAP has evolved, as it now has new features and facilities. SAP keeps growing with time.
SAP ERP is a process. When customers decide that they want to buy or they want to implement SAP, most of them, or 80 percent of them, have already used some ERP solution in the past, and they now want to move to the next level, owing to which they want to shift to SAP. My company recommends people implement SAP ERP in their environment from day one as it is the best thing to do.
I rate the overall tool a ten out of ten.

Account Manager at Cadmium
The solution helps plan resources and execute deals
Pros and Cons
- "I like the solution's ability to close plans and resource requirements in deals."
- "SAP ERP was not very user-friendly."
What is our primary use case?
We use SAP ERP mainly for CRM.
What is most valuable?
I like the solution's ability to close plans and resource requirements in deals.
When I entered or itemized closing plans step by step on how to close deals, the solution helped me to materialize how I wanted to close the deal. It forced me to think about how to do it. If you have a vague idea of how to do it, different ways appear when you put it on paper or type it on a keyboard. The solution also monitors if I'm executing all the steps that I define necessary to closing a deal.
What needs improvement?
SAP ERP was not very user-friendly. Some features and functions are quite obsolete. For example, we had some scoring where the total had to be 100%. I could only enter figures from 100 to 150 or just only 90. There was a lot of manual work.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have worked with SAP ERP for nine years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Companies in certain segments find the solution scalable. For companies that require SAP, where employees are required to have high flexibility in changing processes, SAP ERP is not the right software. However, the solution is very scalable for large companies with 1,000 employees and more.
When I was using SAP, there were 80,000 users.
How are customer service and support?
The first line of support has low-skilled people who just resolve some problems. They hand the problem over to the second level if it is more sophisticated. Unfortunately, as a customer, you often have to describe your issue or problem again to those on the second level.
Likewise, if support is 24/7, there could be different support centers, and you might have to describe your problems to different support centers across the globe again and again.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
From the user's point of view, the solution is easy to set up. You don't need to modify anything while setting up the solution. I rate the initial setup a nine out of ten.
The time taken to deploy the solution depends upon many factors, such as the number of modifications, change requests, and the complexity of data migration. It also matters if it is for one or a few small countries. Setting up SAP ERP can take half a year or several years.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I rate SAP ERP's pricing a six or seven out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend SAP ERP, but it depends on where you are. I'm from the Czech Republic, and SAP dominates the local market. But that's not because of the product but because of the number of available consultants and their experience. By comparison, Oracle has a great solution, but no one has experience with implementation. We didn't know about all the functions and features. Likewise, if you don't have a critical mass of customers, you cannot get experience from implementation.
There are about 700 certified consultants in the Czech Republic for SAP ERP.
I rate SAP ERP an eight out of ten.

Managing Director at GESTRA AG
A stable and scalable solution that provides a high level of integration
Pros and Cons
- "The solution provides a high level of integration."
- "The production system must be upgraded."
What is our primary use case?
We use the FI, CO, SD, PP, and MM modules. We also use GTS.
What is most valuable?
The solution provides a high level of integration. In my previous company, we were working with Oracle, and there were a lot of reconciliation issues. We do not have such issues in SAP because everything is integrated. GTS provides a lot of value.
What needs improvement?
The production system must be upgraded. The PP and APO modules need improvement. PP has not been upgraded much, and we look forward to a new one. We do not have extended warehouse management. We are in the process of setting up a new site for a new factory, and we need the extended warehouse management functionality.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution since 1985.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We do not have issues with stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The tool provides the scalability we need. We have around 250 users.
How are customer service and support?
We use a third-party vendor for technical support. The support is good. It's not always easy to get the right counterparts immediately. Sometimes, there’s a waiting period because people are busy.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We want to move to S/4HANA to take advantage of the improvements in finance. New GL provides much functionality for profit analysis, P&L, and all kinds of automation. Our S/4HANA conversion plan has a schedule of 15 months from start to finish.
How was the initial setup?
The deployment is quite complex. The preparation, setting up of all the systems, and the tests are complex. We need a lot of involvement from the key users. The maintenance of the product is easy if we have the right people for the modules. We work with third-party providers. The product works fine if they know what they are doing and we have the right links inside and out. We also need knowledgeable key users in the departments.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
SAP is quite expensive. It's a premium system. The other ERP systems are either similarly priced or cheaper. We pay a quarterly license fee for the product.
What other advice do I have?
We have a registered number at SAP for our SAP system. We are end users. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Manager, Information Technology at Parag Milk Foods Ltd
A tool that offers multiple modules for enterprise resource planning along with great integration capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "SAP ERP is one of the most well-integrated solutions with all of the applications in my company, making it one of the most advantageous traits of the product."
- "Though SAP ERP's FICO module is a strong part of the product, its integration capabilities can be made stronger."
What is our primary use case?
I use all of the modules offered by SAP ERP, like MM, PP, QA, PM, and FICO.
What is most valuable?
SAP ERP is one of the most well-integrated solutions with all of the applications in my company, making it one of the most advantageous traits of the product.
What needs improvement?
Though SAP ERP's FICO module is a strong part of the product, its integration capabilities can be made stronger. SAP has a multiple integration table. If an entry is made in any of the modules in SAP, then its effect is required to reflect on all the other modules directly. All the entries made by a user should go in SAP ERP's FI module.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using SAP ERP for eleven years. I am an end user of the solution.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
SAP ERP is a very stable product.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable solution.
More than 100 people in my company use the product.
How are customer service and support?
The solution's technical support is very good. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The product's initial setup phase was difficult as special people were required for the installation since it is an ERP software and not any hardware product.
A specialized person is required to deploy each module of the product. My company uses six modules of the product, so we need six different people to take care of the deployment of each module.
As it is an ERP product, the deployment part may take a long period of time to complete. The product deployment is usually taken care of as a part of a project.
The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.
What about the implementation team?
My company has an implementation team to take care of the product in our company.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price of SAP ERP is much higher when compared to the other products in the market. My company makes early payments towards the licensing costs attached to the product. There are no additional costs apart from the charges paid toward the subscription-based license offered by SAP.
What other advice do I have?
As SAP ERP is a stable product, if its user has a good infrastructure, it is not difficult to maintain the product.
SAP ERP is a stable product, and if a user wants any customization to be done, which is not covered under the standard application offered by SAP, then you can make the changes to it.
I have seen how SAP S/4HANA has good features, so I suggest users try it.
I rate the overall tool a ten out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
Sourcing Purchasing Manager at Nexans autoelectric GmbH
Simple to use, but could benefit from having a bit more diversity added to it
What is most valuable?
The solution is simple to use.
What needs improvement?
Introducing diversity into this solution could be beneficial for discovering new and improved deployment processes. Once we acquire experience with one, we can then utilize the other as needed. The pricing of the solution could be improved.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I will need to have more experience with the product to comment on this.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing could be improved.
What other advice do I have?
I rate SAP ERP a seven out of ten.

A good solution for standardizing across processes but customizations are expensive
Pros and Cons
- "The solution can easily be standardized across processes."
- "The solution's stability is perfect across our 15,000 users."
- "Customizations are a bit expensive."
- "The setup is difficult so implementation consultants are needed."
What is our primary use case?
Our company uses the solution within our European branch for ERP functionality such as configurations for sales, purchases, and production.
We have 15,000 users across various departments including IT, sales, and business development. We are planning to upgrade to the newest version soon.
What is most valuable?
The solution can easily be standardized across processes.
What needs improvement?
Customizations are a bit expensive.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for fourteen years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution's stability is perfect across our 15,000 users.
Any stability issues are likely caused by manual configurations that do not have correct master data to run properly.
How are customer service and support?
Technical support is not very good so I rate it a seven out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We previously used Infor but switched because we needed a global solution.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is difficult so implementation consultants are needed.
What about the implementation team?
We utilized consultants for our first implementation and it took eighteen months. Our internal team included ten IT specialists and ten business development staff.
Typical rollouts include a team of 20-30 people.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The solution is expensive so I rate cost a five out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
To save costs, use the standard solution with few customizations and ensure your data is good quality.
I rate the solution a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

SAP Security/GRC Manager at Tata Consultancy
The solution connects to every software but it's not 100% stable
Pros and Cons
- "The product connects to every software."
- "One of the most relevant features is that the product connects to every software, our third parties can integrate through SAP ERP extremely easily, integrate with data transfer and communicate within the solution."
- "The service could be more user-friendly in the area of transition codes."
- "The solution is not 100% stable."
What is most valuable?
One of the most relevant features is that the product connects to every software. Our third parties can integrate through SAP ERP extremely easily, integrate with data transfer and communicate within the solution. The solution is reliable for external connections that other software doesn't provide.
What needs improvement?
The service could be more user-friendly regarding transition codes. There are more than 65,000 four and six-digit codes from every field and domain. A person like me, or anyone else, can't remember all of them. So something easier to remember or work with would be an improvement for all SAP products, not just ERP.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started working with S/4HANA three years back. But overall, I've been working in SAP ERP for more than nine years. Right now, most clients are on S/4. If we have the latest version of SAP ERP, we call it S/4.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is not 100% stable. Working in a 24/7 environment, I face disasters day and night. Every work process operates in the backend. If a process goes down, once we identify the exact issue, we have a disaster center with all the data we copied on our servers. We can recover all the files and data from there. So the solution needs improvement.
How are customer service and support?
I work for a parent company, and they have some other vendors to whom we provide support because we work for tech.
How was the initial setup?
If we're talking only about administration, setting up our landscape is very complex.
We have a huge number of servers. The SAP software itself is more than 100 gigabytes. It takes two to three days to download SAP software from the SAP service marketplace. And installing the server itself takes months. It's not easy.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Because I was representing third parties as their solution provider. I already knew most features and functions, so I never went to another vendor for support. But in such cases, if I can't resolve an issue, I log a ticket to an SAP technical team like the core SAP team or the SAP Support Portal.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the solution seven out of 10.
Most S/4 ERP solutions are cloud-based. BPC is totally cloud-based. Most of our data servers are cloud-based, and Information Steward is also cloud-based.
All the data and more used to be stored locally. Nowadays, however, all the data, including S/4HANA, is only on the cloud. They're planning to move everything into the cloud, even ACC, because of space and wasted storage issues.
We have 22,263 SAP ERP end users, for which we require a team comprising around 25 technical and as many as 74 functional members.

Stable product with a centralized and well-integrated system
Pros and Cons
- "The product’s most valuable feature is a centralized system integrating different departments within the organization."
- "They need to improve a few processes, including transformation, intelligence, governance, modeling, etc."
What is our primary use case?
We use the product for accounts payable and accounts receivables processes. It helps us analyze the throughput time between goods receipt and the completion of the entire accounts payable process. It identifies any delays or lags in the payment of invoices and ratios.
What is most valuable?
The product’s most valuable feature is a centralized system integrating different departments within the organization. It works much faster compared to other vendors.
What needs improvement?
SAP ERP lags a bit compared to Oracle for reporting features. Oracle provides predefined standard reports for vendor and customer-related financial statements. This feature could be included in SAP for creating reports adhering to standardized compliance requirements.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using SAP ERP for three and a half years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is stable. There are a lot of clients that maintain their systems for several years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The product is scalable and suitable for large enterprises.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support services are good. However, they cannot provide solutions for certain problems.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The deployment process requires a lot of resources and is expensive. It takes a lot of time to configure and deploy SAP applications. We need around 50 to 60 skilled resources for configuration setup. For finance, we may need another 50 resources. The process involves technical modules. Thus, we need expertise in finance and cost to handle the functional models, including warehouse, production, and plant maintenance. SAP provides good support services to help us set up the application.
The deployment time depends on the size of the data records and their processes. Some implementations might happen for years together.
The number of engineers and architects required depends on the existing data and processes. On average, we need a minimum of 10 executives to work on each module. We have around 20 modules in total. We may need overall at least 100 resources to implement the product.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product has high pricing. They provide a yearly basis license. The customers have to pay extra costs for support services.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I reviewed some articles and blogs and interacted with IT consultants to learn about Oracle.
What other advice do I have?
SAP ERP provides a lot of features compared to other systems. It is a well-integrated and feasible solution. It is a perfect solution if you can afford to invest in SAP. They are improving themselves rapidly. They provide all the organizational level services, including transaction, dashboarding, reports, automation, etc. They need to improve a few processes, including transformation, intelligence, governance, modeling, etc.
I rate the product an eight out of ten.

Helps with finances, accounting, and reporting while making our internal processes run smoothly
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features of SAP ERP are its stability, industry-specific package, and adaptable configuration."
- "It is on the expensive side."
What is our primary use case?
I use SAP ERP to make our internal processes run smoothly. It helps with finances, accounting, and reporting. I can manage inventory and purchasing efficiently, and the system ensures our production and manufacturing processes work seamlessly.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of SAP ERP are its stability, industry-specific package, and adaptable configuration. It is versatile in communication, making it easy to align with our business processes.
What needs improvement?
One challenge we face with SAP ERP is the push to upgrade to S/4HANA, which comes with significant costs. While SAP encourages this transition, we need to carefully evaluate factors like our team's functions, existing customizations, and the overall expense involved in the upgrade process. Cost considerations are a major downside to this potential move. For the next release of SAP ERP, I would like to see enhanced financial planning and analysis features
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with SAP ERP for six years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
SAP ERP is quite stable. Our current instance operates smoothly, and we have only made minor customizations for specific management reporting needs. When it comes to the standard functions and configurations, we haven't encountered the need for significant changes.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable product. In our company, we have around 200 licensed users for SAP ERP. When it comes to administration and maintenance, we have only one system administrator for the basic IT needs. Additionally, we have less than ten people handling application-related IT tasks. Overall, the management is straightforward, with a small team handling the responsibilities.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before SAP ERP, we used Oracle ERP. The decision to switch to SAP ERP was not driven by our IT team but it resulted from business organizational changes that forced us to adopt a different ERP package.
How was the initial setup?
Deploying SAP ERP two years ago was a bit challenging. We moved from an existing instance to a new virtual one, rebuilding everything from scratch and converting Master DataOps. It took some effort, but with external support, we successfully made the transition. Deploying SAP ERP had its challenges because when we started using it six or seven years ago, it wasn't a new setup but a result of a merger. For the first three years, we were more focused on daily operations. When we decided to take full control three years ago, it was our first time setting up our processes. We needed external support to navigate the difficulties, given our limited familiarity with the new package.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is on the expensive side.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate SAP ERP as a nine out of ten.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
