Enterprise-wide application used across finance, HR and procurement for resource planning
Pros and Cons
  • "SAP is a very process controlled application; it does not allow users to manage the data, and once the initial process is set, it works smoothly."
  • "The integration with others application could be easier. There are many different features that this solution offers which could be easier to implement."
  • "The integration with others applications could be easier."

What is our primary use case?

SAP is an enterprise-wide application and we use it across all departments including finance, project management, HR and procurement.

What is most valuable?

SAP is a very process controlled application. It does not allow users to manage the data. Once the initial process is set, it works smoothly.

What needs improvement?

The integration with others applications could be easier. There are many different features that this solution offers which could be easier to implement. This solution previously has a best practice implementation which we used to easily make improvements.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used this solution for nine years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a very stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a scalable solution that comes with many options and add-ons.

How was the initial setup?

Deployment is costly and it takes a lot of time, but once it is done it is very smooth. We deployed SAP in a phased manner, country by country. We started with one country, gave it a year or so, and then we moved on to the second country. We have rolled this solution out in six countries over six years.

What about the implementation team?

We started the implementation with a vendor team and then started hiring our own consultants. We have between eight to twelve consultants internally.

What was our ROI?

It takes a little bit of time to cover the ROI on this solution due to its cost.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This solution was initially costly until we moved to internal consulting which brought the overall cost of ownership and maintenance down.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Stable and scalable software for internal solutions
Pros and Cons
  • "ERP is very stable."
  • "In the next release, I would like to see more technical integration for directly designed solutions on behalf of the selling process so that you can design solutions and not have to use ten or more other tools to get the solution for selling."

What is our primary use case?

I use ERP for internal solutions like selling and our customer database.

What needs improvement?

An area for improvement would be the response time. In the next release, I would like to see more technical integration for directly designed solutions on behalf of the selling process so that you can design solutions and not have to use ten or more other tools to get the solution for selling.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for a couple of years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

ERP is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used Salesforce.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution as eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

It helps manage enterprise resources
Pros and Cons
  • "ERP can help manage all enterprise resources. It brings them together and provides some analytical data to inform management decisions."
  • "I'm only working on the front end with ERP's user interface, which isn't very easy for end-users. It's an old-school interface, so it's often challenging to find what you need."

What is most valuable?

ERP can help manage all enterprise resources. It brings them together and provides some analytical data to inform management decisions.

What needs improvement?

I'm only working on the front end with ERP's user interface, which isn't very easy for end-users. It's an old-school interface, so it's often challenging to find what you need. It could be because I'm not well trained in ERP. I occasionally work with the user interface when I'm negotiating a contract.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using ERP for five or six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability depends on several factors, not only the SAP software but also your infrastructure, configuration, and support. All those aspects should be considered together.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't contacted SAP for support with ERP, but I have a relationship with them. My previous company was a software vendor that sold many applications similar to ERP, so I can express my general opinion.

SAP's support work is divided into three different areas: production environment, testing, and development. There is a specific approach for each area, with a different level of availability, response times, etc. Of course, the production environment is more critical, and SAP allocates more resources to it than others.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate SAP ERP eight out of 10.

Fast, 100% stable, and good data integrity
Pros and Cons
  • "It has a lot of integrity of data, and it is fast. All the users feel that they can trust this data. So, data integrity is the most important value of SAP."
  • "It is not flexible for the users. SAP works in a specific way, and the users and the processes have to adapt to the way it works. It is hard to customize it to the level that we need for our work. It is not easy to get new extensions for process functions, modules, or activities."

What is our primary use case?

Almost all of our data processes are running on this platform. We use it for finance, production, logistics, and human resources.

What is most valuable?

It has a lot of integrity of data, and it is fast. All the users feel that they can trust this data. So, data integrity is the most important value of SAP.

It is scalable. It has the capacity to get bigger and consolidate data from all business processes.

What needs improvement?

It is not flexible for the users. SAP works in a specific way, and the users and the processes have to adapt to the way it works. It is hard to customize it to the level that we need for our work. It is not easy to get new extensions for process functions, modules, or activities.

It doesn't integrate well with other solutions. SAP is a closed circle, and it is not easy to share information with all of our ecosystems. SAP has its own solution for everything, such as for business intelligence and other things. There are many specialized vendors who are doing better than SAP, but it is not easy to integrate SAP with other solutions.

For how long have I used the solution?

It has been about 16 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is 100% stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Its scalability is good, but it is not flexible.

We can keep going with SAP. We have been growing, and we have been adding new business entities to our SAP. The number of enterprises that we manage with our SAP is growing. So, it is scalable.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate it a nine out of 10. It is a very good platform.

Overall good features, stable, but lacking flexibility
Pros and Cons
  • "Overall the solution is very good in the industry."
  • "The flexibility in using the software could improve. I am from a product background and I've been testing a lot of applications, for example, Informatics. The UI, features, and cloud version could improve."

What is our primary use case?

We are using SAP ERP in the agricultural industry and we use it mostly for finance control models.

What is most valuable?

Overall the solution is very good in the industry.

What needs improvement?

The flexibility in using the software could improve. I am from a product background and I've been testing a lot of applications, for example, Informatics. The UI, features, and cloud version could improve.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP ERP for approximately two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

SAP ERP is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have found SAP ERP scalable.

We have approximately 100 people using this solution in my organization.

How are customer service and support?

My team was involved with the support and they could improve by being faster.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have used a previous solution and it was a purely homegrown system, which was completely customized and developed in .NET.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was complex and took approximately three hours for all the computers.

What about the implementation team?

We used an integrator for the implementation of the solution. Four consultants is a good number for the process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We pay annually for the use of this solution.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution.

I would rate SAP ERP a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable but could use more integrations
Pros and Cons
  • "ERP is stable. The outcome is clear to us as far as the design goes."
  • "ERP could use better integration with other systems. That's always the thing."

What is our primary use case?

Mostly, I use ERP for engineering applications — small fry infrastructure.

What needs improvement?

ERP could use better integration with other systems. That's always the thing. Any upgrade or any other integration would be helpful with such a solid platform.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP ERP for about 10 years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

ERP is stable. The outcome is clear to us as far as the design goes.

How was the initial setup?

I don't set the solution up. It's just for me to play with the keyboard.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate ERP seven out of 10.

Is annually updated and enhanced
Pros and Cons
  • "SAP is already working on improvements by doing annual releases with enhancements."
  • "More integrations and built-in integrations with other environments and products are needed."
  • "Technical support could be better."

What is our primary use case?

We implement it for customers, and we use the software internally for process management and inventory management.

What is most valuable?

SAP is already working on improvements by doing annual releases with enhancements.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see more integrations and built-in integrations with other environments and products. Sometimes, we have a product that needs something, and we would need to replace a feature or model in the system with other models outside.

In this case, we would like the system to be more flexible, more component-based. Then, we would be able to take one component and leave the others. We won't have to buy in bulk to benefit from the product. We can select features and pay for those.

Technical support could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with this product for almost 7 years.

How are customer service and support?

As for technical support, it depends on how SAP defines the level of the ticket. Sometimes, the ticket is very important to us, while from the perspective of SAP, its of low or medium priority. This makes things difficult for us.

When the ticket is of medium or low priority from the perspective of SAP, it takes more time to solve it.

So, when we have product limitations or something's not working, we would need to help the customers find a solution or workaround.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is a little bit complex. In the beginning, it takes some time for the business consultants to prepare the environment and set up everything. Usually, if you give the consultants the appropriate time to do the setup correctly the first time, everything will go smoothly.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale from one to ten, I would rate SAP ERP at eight.

The biggest ERP system globally that has great features and can do pretty much everything
Pros and Cons
  • "If you are well versed in SAP, the initial setup is pretty simple."
  • "The solution is the biggest ERP system globally and can do pretty much anything."
  • "Technical support could be better."
  • "A major problem of SAP these days is it's not homogenous. It's a conglomerate of many different solutions and systems, which are not very well integrated."

What is our primary use case?

It's the biggest and the most prominent ERP system in business, globally, and it can be used for almost anything. This is one of the biggest advantages of SAP - having so many modules and supporting so many different industrial sectors. Therefore, it would be hard to find what the SAP can't do.

What is most valuable?

The solution is the biggest ERP system globally and can do pretty much anything.

With all the complexity, there isn't any tool that is so complex and offers so many features as the SAP does those days.

If you are well versed in SAP, the initial setup is pretty simple.

What needs improvement?

It's pretty pricey for the functionality.

In certain barriers, for example, CRM, Salesforce can do better than the analog tools in SAP. It's not naturally grown from its own development of the SAP and a lot of products or solutions are bought in or purchased by SAP. I'm using different technologies due to this.

A major problem of SAP these days is it's not homogenous. It's a conglomerate of many different solutions and systems, which are not very well integrated.

The initial setup can be difficult if your team is unfamiliar with the product.

Technical support could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've worked with the solution on and off for 15 years. I didn't spend the last 15 years just implementing SAP ERP. I did all other kinds of projects as well. That said, I've worked with the product for a while.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I was doing working with three different companies for the past 15 years as well as a couple of external clients. I've used it across a few different industries.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support definitely can be faster. We have had a couple of tickets in solution support opened for a long, long time without proper or satisfactory response. We're not 100% happy with the level of support we receive.

How was the initial setup?

The setup complexity depends on how strong of a team you have. If you have enough experience, then no major problem with implementation. For the cloud solutions, now you don't even really install. You just get your own tenant developed or created by the SAP itself.

The size of the technical team you will need depends on your business scale. You can do it with a small team of two or three people if it's a small implementation. You can also deal with the thousands of mandates if it's a complex enterprise implementation. That said, it's the same or very similar with any other tool as the complexity is not driven by the tool itself. Rather, it is the business processes of a customer.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's definitely not the cheapest system to license and run. It could be cheaper.

Typically, they offer yearly licensing agreements.

What other advice do I have?

I'm not only an end-user. I'm a project manager who has implemented it in the past.

The solution can be deployed both on-premises and on the cloud.

I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

I would recommend the solution to other users and organizations.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Provides great features, processes, and functionalities; offers a lot of customization
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution has far more features, processes, and functionalities than we previously had."
  • "In every aspect, SAP is an enterprise solution that has a lot of customization and, as a hospital, it offers us tremendous help that supports our processes."
  • "Functionality could be improved."
  • "There are some tools we use that no longer have support for the on-prem versions."

What is our primary use case?

I work at a hospital and SAP provides core components. We're in the health industry and we use industry solutions that are designed specifically for health care. We are customers of SAP ERP and I'm a development specialist at a health institution in Colombia.

What is most valuable?

This product has a lot of good features. We previously used several systems that were very difficult to integrate. ERP is great because it's more or less integrated and that makes a big difference in our organization. The modeling of the SAP ERP means it has far more features, processes, and more functionalities than we previously had. In every aspect, SAP is an enterprise solution that has a lot of customization and, as a hospital, it offers us tremendous help that supports our processes.

What needs improvement?

There's a lot of functionality that could be improved. We are far better now than we were before, but as a hospital we are very sensitive about security and risk because clinical information is very sensitive so we're using an on-prem solution. We're not ready to go to the cloud and I feel that SAP is trying to force us into the cloud. That is a very different model and would be a huge effort because they are very different licensing models and there are different costs involved. In addition, there are some tools we use that no longer have support for the on-prem versions. The other aspect that's important for us is availability of our systems, and without that we'd be in trouble. If you need security 24/7 and you have a cloud solution there might be a couple of areas where the platform is down and there are disruptions. That's a huge problem for us. I'd like to see some support for the on-premise solution.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is rock solid stable. We had some minor performance issues when we migrated from Oracle to the HANA Database but it's been very stable since then.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. We also have multiple back up systems so if one goes down there is immediate back up that's transparent for the user, because we're totally dependent on our systems.

How are customer service and technical support?

We generally receive support from the vendor. If the problem needs more expertise, then we call SAP, but normally we talk to the vendor and they are helpful.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not easy. To deploy SAP ERP you need consultants and you need training. There's a lot to learn before you can properly use the product because it's a huge solution. It took us a year to complete deployment. We deployed the ERP, the central component and the HCF, the human resources module and industry solutions for healthcare that is EHS and EHSM in a year.

What other advice do I have?

This is a very, very good solution, but a very, very expensive one too. You need infrastructure, you need training, you need a lot of components and a large amount of money. SAP has a lot of functionality.

I rate this solution a nine out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Good integration, stable, and scalable, but needs a better user interface
Pros and Cons
  • "Its integration is most valuable."
  • "We are using it for all of our core business processes, including finance, sales and distribution, warehousing, and HR."
  • "Its user interface should be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We are using it for all of our core business processes, including finance, sales and distribution, warehousing, and HR. We have its latest version.

What is most valuable?

Its integration is most valuable.

What needs improvement?

Its user interface should be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for more than seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is also scalable. Currently, we have more than a thousand users.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their technical support is fine. We have a Service Level Agreement with SAP's technical support. They are within their Service Level Agreement.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution. It is the best ERP product. We plan to keep using it in the foreseeable future.

I would rate SAP ERP a seven out of ten.
