Tableau Enterprise Reviews

My client was initially using SAP BO as a reporting tool. This client added another entity to their organization and considered using Tableau for reporting purposes. The reason for choosing Tableau is because it is easy to use and we already had some developers with experience using Tableau. We have not done a complete migration from SAP BO to Tableau due to the volume of reporting still in SAP BO which Tableau cannot handle. 

When creating reports for entities with less data, we make use of Tableau. We have trained 10 to 15 developers for this reporting. It took two to three months for them to master reporting in Tableau. 

We use Tableau to create reports based on geographical maps to show the impact of natural hazards on the insurance industry. This solution offered us the flexibility and ability to visualize this type of information. We also use Tableau to host reports which are published on a weekly schedule to certain user groups. 

Tableau has data relationships that can be applied to a data source which helps build out a directory which is helpful. Data blending has also been valuable to us.

The extraction, transformation and loading of data in Tableau takes a lot of time and we do not have confidence that Tableau is showing all the data we need. This is due to limitations on data extraction which needs to be improved.

We experience user restrictions using Tableau and require a more dynamic setup for extraction of data, configuration of reports and providing access to users. 

Tableau useful for dashboard reporting, however, there are limitation on the number of rows of data you can view in a report. It is for this reason that we use Tableau alongside other reporting solutions. Tableau does not support any HTML coding in the same way Power BI does. 

There is a maximum number of tables we can use in Tableau. This could be improved in a future release.

I'm have been working with Tableau for seven years.

Tableau is a stable solution. 

This is a scalable solution. 

We continue to use SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence Platform. 

Tableau is a business intelligence tool. It allows you to extract specific insights and analyze data. It comes with many add ons and features including stories and dashboards. Our biggest challenge when using Tableau is the ETL size. It is for this reason we are switching to Power BI. 

I would rate it an eight out of ten. 

I am using Tableau and we use it as a business intelligence tool. We plan to move to the cloud soon.

Our compliance team  has not approved some security policies on the cloud. We are working on it and we have moved some of our data warehouses to Redshift already.

The solution has helped out organization improve by providing beneficial team reports.

I have found Tableau easy to use and the features are superb.

I would look at Tableau's security and performance. I take a long time to process the hundreds of thousands or millions of records that must be processed every day. I am hoping that it can be improved very soon.

I have been working with Tableau for the last three years.

Tableau is a stable product.

I would say that the technical support is adequate. We are unsatisfied with the support because every time we have a new problem, it will go to tier 1, and the tier 1 will take several days to reply to us, and then the result is not very satisfying, as we are still stuck with the problem. It is then escalated to tier 2, or sometimes tier 3, which can take about two or three weeks, as an estimated length.

Definitely, technical support could be improved.

In a previous company, I worked with IBM Cognos to focus on data, for instruction saving and loading that data in a very efficient way.

I also use other types of data extraction, such as Vanilla. It's a new software from France that is being used by a number of non-government organizations to restore data.

The initial setup is quite complex.

We completed the setup ourselves.

I recommend that they install it using a virtual machine or Docker first, as they may encounter issues with other projects if they are running on the same server.

I would rate Tableau an eight out of ten.

Data handling, visualizations, and aesthetics of it are the most valuable features.

When compared to Power BI, it is less user-friendly.

The interface needs a major overhaul.

I have been working with Tableau for eight to ten months.

We are working with the latest version.

Tableau is a stable product.

It's a scalable solution.

There is technical support available, but it is not as comprehensive as Power BI, because obviously, it's a Microsoft product, but you can find some useful information. The community is good, but outside the community, help is scarce.

The initial setup is easy.

It is a bit overpriced. They could decrease the price a bit.

When compared to Power BI or Qlik, Tableau is overpriced when you go with creative licenses.

Before implementing Tableau, It would be better if they looked at Power BI instead. They offer everything that Tableau does, but in a much more user-friendly manner, with much more support, and at a lower cost.

I would rate Tableau a seven out of ten.

I use the solution mainly to monitor the main KPIs and to basically show aggregated numbers of very important metrics and certain business environments. Basically, that's what I use Tableau for.

You can basically do anything with it. There's a lot of customizations you can try to explore when using Tableau. You can do a lot of things in Tableau. Even though some things are maybe not as straightforward, there are lots of solutions you can find online. There's a very good community where you can specifically find the answers to any kind of problems that you might have with Tableau. That's what I like about it.

It is easy to use. That said, it makes it possible so that you don't only make, for example, a very simple bar chart. There are lots of different charts that you can make in Tableau. Even though it requires customization and sometimes a lot of googling to find out how to do certain things, that's what makes it powerful. You can basically do everything with Tableau.

In my experience, it is stable enough.

There are already connectors to almost every single major database and service that you can possibly think of.

The installation is very straightforward, very simple.

In the last year, I haven't really used Tableau much. Therefore, I don't really know what new features there are currently or if there are fixes or improvements that have occurred in the last year.

Maybe the price could be a bit cheaper, especially if you're a personal developer that uses Tableau just to explore smaller data sets and you're not a company or something like that. Specifically for learning purposes, it could be cheaper. I know there is a student license, however, there could be a cheaper option for people who are maybe just starting to explore data and to use data visualization tools. 

I've used the solution for three and a half years. I don't use it in my current work at the moment.

The stability is fantastic. There are no bugs or glitches. Its performance is reliable. It doesn't crash or freeze. 

While my understanding is that the solution can scale, since my work basically was project-based, we didn't have a lot of occasions where we had to really scale up in our work. I can't exactly say how good or not good the scalability is. That said, in my personal experience, I didn't have any problems with it.

The users on the solution varied from project to project. Usually, it was in the dozens or so.

I've never contacted technical support in the past. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they are. 

The very first data visualization tool I used was Tableau. Tableau was how I was introduced to the field of data. Before Tableau, I hadn't actually explored any other data visualization tool.

The installation is very straightforward and simple.

The implementation process took at most five minutes. It probably takes longer to download the installer than it is to actually install the file depending on the internet connection.

Typically five to six people were needed for deployment and maintenance tasks. That would depend on the scale of the project, however. 

I was able to handle the implementation myself. I didn't need any assistance from any implementors or consultants.

You do need to pay a licensing fee, however, there aren't any additional costs. 

I was previously a customer and an end-user.

I would recommend the solution to other users and organizations. It's a very powerful data visualization tool.

I would rate the solution at least a nine out of ten. There's always room for improvement, however, in my personal experience, Tableau is up top.

It is very simple to use for the end-user. It is user-friendly.

It integrates well.

Yes, I would recommend this solution to others who are considering using it.

I would rate Tableau, a nine out of ten.

Tableau can be helpful for BI reports and data dashboards. For example, say you are getting data from a few systems, and you want to see a consolidated report, like a management report or a transactional report. We use Tableau to build a dashboard using the data that we get.

I'm in a pre-sales role, so I don't have a lot of practical hands-on experience with Tableau, but there are experts in my company, and we've been using the solution for more than five years.  
We're consultants. If a customer wants to build a dashboard or run some custom reports using Tableau, we do the engineering part.

Performance-wise, Tableau is good but it could always be better. 

Since Tableau is on the cloud, we haven't faced any challenges around scalability. Since I'm not an engineer, I don't know if that scalability comes from the cloud infrastructure or Tableau itself. I can't rate it properly on that front.

The complexity of deploying Tableau generally depends on the size of the project. As far as I know, it takes two or three Tableau engineers for the bigger projects where we're using utilizing them to build a database. 

To clarify, I'm talking about the engineers building the custom solutions for our clients, not consuming them. To construct the Tableau reports or the database we use to generate the reports, we need two or three Tableau engineers and around the same number of database engineers to generate the data or write the scripts required for generating the reports.

I would rate Tableau seven out of 10. Other tools are more competitively priced, but I wouldn't give it a low rating because Tableau still provides the functionality our clients need. I would recommend it.

We were using Tableau for some simple data visualization statistics. Last year because of the pandemic, we collected locations of people who were positive and then tried to put the information on a map and see if we can find any patterns.

Tableau is easy to use compared to some other solutions, such as Excel.

There should be more GIS features, such as location analysis, which is quite limited. There are very few location-based functionalities.

I currently have to use another Tableau solution that allows me to combine different data sources and do the data cleaning. I think they should combine these solutions together.

Tableau has been scalable for what we have used it for. However, we have not used a lot of large data sets at this point.

I am from a Oracle database background and I have used Oracle Reports.

I would recommend others to have a look at Tableau for data visualization.

The solution is primarily used for analysis purposes. I use it quite a lot. 

Overall, the solution is pretty good.

You can do a lot of filtering from the dashboard. 

You are able to see and follow trends.

The scalability of the solution is very good.

There is a lot more that can be done with Tableau than what is actually happening within Juniper. The company is not getting the answers to the questions directly from the Tableau database, for example. Of course, Tableau can be extended to answer those questions. 

What is happening, with so many tools coming up in the market, is that people have to continuously get educated in order to use some of the more advanced features. What's happening with Tableau is that, except for the dashboard view and all the filtering and that's happening from a dashboard perspective, it doesn't seem to be very good in making me understand the trend insights. For example, if I saw that the average sales price for Product A was lower than the average sales price for Product B, I'm not saying that B is inferior to A or anything. I'm just noting what I found and I cannot give more details. It doesn't go deeper into the analysis. I'd like more analysis to better understand what a trend might mean, and not just a report that a trend is happening. Right now, Tableau is not so good at providing that extra bit of insight.

What happens is Tableau data is used very often. From the quarterly business reviews, et cetera, the executives have direct access to the Tableau dashboard. More than anything else, they're able to do all this filtering. They could probably improve the user interface response times. When it comes to slicing and dicing of data viewing the results, it needs to be just easier in general as executives are using it and looking at it, and they are not very technical. 

When executives look at the Tableau dashboard, they want to know why, for example, Product A bringing in less than Product B. Those kinds of key questions, which come from executives for reviewing the Tableau data need to be addressed and in a simple to understand way. I think Tableau has to work a little more in terms of the business insights aspect of it, where it communicates to the user and answers their questions. That intelligence part needs to be developed in Tableau. 

Something great would be, if, for example, like in Google, if you asked a question, it could feed you back potential information. I don't want to compare everything to Google, however, it's so easy to find the answers you need in the way Google is set up. If Tableau could do something similar to showcase answers to questions, that would be ideal. It needs some sort of smart dashboard. 

I've found the scalability to be quite good. If a user needs to expand it, they can do so. 

I also have used Teradata previously. 

The front-end of Teradata is not so well used and therefore I cannot talk about it much, however, the dashboard is pretty good. Much like Google, which uses ML and AI to help answer questions, both solutions could benefit from extracting intelligence to answer questions. 

I'm simply an end-user of the product. I don't have a business relationship with Tableau.

I'd rate the solution at a seven out of ten. I'd like to talk to a Tableau product manager about the solution and describe how I would like the solution to work, especially around deeper analysis.

I'm a computer science professor and I teach analytics. We use Tableau to teach students how to develop visualizations of data sets.

I like Tableau's heat maps and the storyboard. You can create data stories and tons of visuals with it, and it goes together really well. Tableau lets you manipulate the data in various ways. But since we are teaching, we have to accommodate the needs of the students. Often, we have to go back to basic stuff like Excel because that is what the students will be working with at whatever jobs they get. So we try to use the type of tools that their workplace will offer. We know Excel is widely used and Tableau is not.

I've been working with Tableau for about half a year or so.

It's an individual solution so it works on as many desktops as you can download it to.

We were using Azure, but we're trying to get away from that because Microsoft is very expensive. We're trying to keep our expenses down while trying to find some decent products. 

Setting up Tableau is straightforward. You just can download it and set it up on your system in five minutes.

The price of Tableau is too high.
