Generally, the main use case for Hitachi VSP is to support the end user, particularly in the high-end sector in Italy, where we don't have American or UK customers. We generally propose this solution to enterprise customers.
We can appreciate all the services that this storage can propose, but we really appreciate it when there is the GAD in the middle regarding business continuity and disaster recovery, as it works very well.
Hitachi VSP handles large volumes of transactions with ease, and we often support customers in this direction when we have Oracle in the middle.
Hitachi provides automation features for users that are very easy to use and very useful.
Hitachi needs to work on the marketing side because communication is a problem, as many customers do not know what they are offering and the quality of their products.
In terms of functionality for Hitachi VSP, it's important to clarify what you can do, as you can convince customers that the hardware is resilient, but you must demonstrate that all functionalities are available compared to the competition.
I have been working with Hitachi VSP for two years, more or less.
The initial setup process for Hitachi VSP is not complex at all compared to previous storage systems; it's very easy.
In my opinion, the main competitors for Hitachi are Dell in some cases and in other cases, NetApp and Pure Storage at the mid-level, while I don't consider HPE a competitor.
Currently, we are not approaching the virtual storage.
We are working with Hitachi and Pure Storage; in some cases, we work with NetApp.
We work with more or less all the stack of Hitachi products, starting from the small machine up to the VSP, the big family, the high-end, depending on the customer, the end user.
We have very poor experience with Hitachi VSP E Series because we don't have big customers, just a couple. We had experience with VSP, specifically the E Series.
We don't take care of data protection features from Hitachi because our customers do not generally involve us in this area as it is not our focus.
Integrating Hitachi VSP with a hybrid cloud environment is not particularly complex.
The automation process is handled by our storage administrator; I support them in the choice but don't work directly with that.
I would rate Hitachi's pricing around a three, stability an eight, and Hitachi VSP's scalability a 10, as you can scale whenever you want.
Hitachi VSP can compete absolutely on the market. When comparing solutions, Hitachi VSP is the best for me.
I have rated this solution 9 out of 10.

We have been a partner with Hitachi for around ten years, working with Hitachi products and services. This includes storage platforms, designed for those customers who are not looking for enterprise-class storage yet want simple management and a product with the name of Hitachi. We use this for transactional workloads like banks, where we need high performance and availability.
The most valuable features of Hitachi VSP series include its high performance and availability. These are key selling points for any Hitachi product. No other storage system provides a hundred percent availability, but Hitachi offers this twenty-four by seven without needing downtime. These products are highly scalable with flexible memory and controller updates.
Hitachi should work on unified storage platforms. Currently, they provide separate block, file, and cloud storage. I recommend creating one product for unified use, like other manufacturers, which includes both block and file storage in one platform.
We have been working with Hitachi products for around ten years.
The performance is not compromised at any level, providing 100% availability.
These products are highly scalable, offering excellent compute, memory, and storage scalability. You can add controllers or memory units to accommodate testing requirements.
The support and AI-driven initiatives are well-suited for accommodating specific workloads like AI and storage for transactional workloads.
Positive
Return on investment depends on the use case, especially for workloads demanding high IOPS. Hitachi specifically offers a lot of IOPS for workloads.
Hitachi is generally expensive, providing products designed for enterprise customers like banks with transactional workloads. This is due to the high availability and performance designed into the product.
NetApp is recommended if file series and block services are needed within one storage platform. Other manufacturers offer unified storage platforms such as Dell, HP, IBM, and Fujitsu.
I rate Hitachi VSP series nine out of ten for a transactional workload requiring no compromise on availability and performance. However, I recommend evaluating the technical and non-technical requirements for specific use cases before deciding.
I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

We are using the Hitachi VSP E Series for high IOPS. Hitachi VSP E Series is an NVMe kind of storage, which is very fast. The solution has good performance.
The solution's support duration or end-of-support life is very short. Its end-of-support life is within five years, and it would be good for the business environment if the support lasts at least seven to ten years. It's not possible for our IT team to change our storage frequently in five years.
I have been using the Hitachi VSP E Series for one year.
Hitachi VSP E Series is a stable solution.
Hitachi VSP E Series is a scalable solution. Around 3,000 users use the solution in our organization, and we plan to increase the usage in the future.
We are satisfied with the solution's technical support.
The solution’s initial setup is straightforward.
We implemented the solution through an in-house team. The solution has a GUI-based deployment, which is very easy to understand. For the solution's deployment, we mount the storage mount in the rack, connect it to our Brocade switch, and use it. It takes hardly two to three hours to deploy the solution.
We have seen a return on investment with the Hitachi VSP E Series.
Hitachi VSP E Series is an expensive solution.
Overall, I rate Hitachi VSP E Series a nine out of ten.

Positive
The initial setup was straightforward.
The deployment process required a six-hour timeframe, with a team of two individuals sufficient for the task. The maintenance tasks can be efficiently handled by a single person.
The manageability has considerably reduced administrative tasks and the support has been noteworthy. Connecting to their support center means that for any alerts or issues, they proactively ship the necessary parts without the customer having to initiate the process. This has led to a substantial reduction in administrative workload.
The pricing is fair, with additional costs for support services.
It is highly commendable especially when considering it for mid-sized organizations, both in terms of pricing and ease of management. It offers features like compression and deduplication. Moreover, they have a competitive edge, and if they fail to meet expectations, there is a guarantee program that includes options like a refund or additional storage. I can confidently recommend it without any hesitation for its availability, scalability, and ease of manageability. The product performs exceptionally well, and it lives up to its guarantee. Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten.

It offers good file sharing.
There is room for improvement in simplifying the overall complexity of the environment. Newer versions like the ECDs offer enhancements, but managing the solution can be challenging for those not well-versed in its intricacies. Future releases could benefit from a more user-friendly interface and improved documentation to make the solution more accessible to a wider audience.
In our small to medium-sized company, we chose the Hitachi VSP E Series for our storage needs because it is easy to manage and requires less day-to-day administration. Since we don't make frequent changes or need a lot of storage adjustments, this solution suits our simple setup. It is perfect for companies like ours that prefer a straightforward and low-maintenance approach.
I would give Hitachi a rating of two out of ten for stability. The main problem is the downtime needed for maintenance, which is not convenient for our operations.
I would rate the scalability of the solution as a four out of ten. We use it daily at our company.
I would rate the technical support for the solution as a five out of ten. The response has not been very prompt.

Setting up the Hitachi VSP Series was quite difficult. We encountered a lot of challenges, and it took around six months with Hitachi technical experts to get everything in place, especially with performance tuning. I would rate the easiness of the initial setup as a one out of ten. Deploying Hitachi was quite resource-intensive for us. Initially, we engaged a couple of business partner experts for setup, and later, two to three engineers were consistently involved in addressing issues, performing performance tuning, and collaborating with their engineering team. The deployment phase involved ongoing challenges, requiring constant attention. As for maintenance, we found that having a team of two people was sufficient to manage and maintain the Hitachi system effectively.
I would give the solution an eight out of ten in terms of costliness.
If your business involves a lot of changes and administrative tasks, or if you often need to move or replicate data, this might not be the best fit due to its complexity and limitations on maintenance during high usage periods. It is important to consider your specific needs and maintenance requirements before deciding on this solution. I wouldn't recommend it for users without a solid understanding of the product, as it requires a high level of expertise. Overall I would rate Hitachi VSP E Series as a one out of ten.
