Provides a high level of security and stability for teleconferencing
Pros and Cons
  • "Meraki is a decent solution for a small company, and we use it in a pretty typical way. We need Teams and Zoom to work, and we need a high level of security because we want our business to remain confidential."

What is our primary use case?

We have a small, growing company, and they're looking for a wireless capability to do typical office stuff, except that now, we're doing a lot more meetings on Teams and Zoom. We often have a setup where a few people in a conference room connect with remote workers on a Teams meeting. We've had some Teams and Zoom calls interrupted due to problems with the wireless and the wide-area network, as well as some other standard internet issues. Meraki is a decent solution for a small company, and we use it in a pretty typical way. We need Teams and Zoom to work, and we need a high level of security because we want our business to remain confidential.

For how long have I used the solution?

My company has been using Meraki Wireless for several years, but I've only been involved for a year and a half.

How are customer service and support?

I haven't interacted with technical support. I hire third-party technical staff, and they deal with all the actual support.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Cisco Meraki Wireless eight out of 10. My suggestion to anyone looking to implement this kind of solution is to use a smart consultant. I use technical consultants to handle things like picking out a solution. So I have one guy who says Ubiquiti would be a great platform, and the other says they think Meraki is the best platform.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

Easy to operate and configure with cloud-based management, and it scales on demand
    Pros and Cons
    • "This product offers cloud-based configuration, so you can set it up from anywhere."
    • "They should introduce a grace period of 60 days after license expiry because as it is now, it automatically goes down and there is no grace period."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN is one of the products that we recommend to our customers for building their network and offering wireless internet access.

    What is most valuable?

This product offers cloud-based configuration, so you can set it up from anywhere.

It is easy to operate and easy to manage.

    What needs improvement?

When the license expires, access to the Cisco cloud stops immediately. They should introduce a grace period of 60 days after license expiry because as it is now, it automatically goes down and there is no grace period.

There should be better integration with other products.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN for a couple of years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is scalable and can do so on-demand. We have approximately 60 users, and we plan to continue using it in the future.

How are customer service and technical support?

    The support is good.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and installing an access point will take no more than three hours.

    What about the implementation team?

We deploy this product with our in house team, and two people are enough for deployment and maintenance.

    • "Its ease of use and flexibility are most valuable. It is cloud-based software."
    • "Its price should be reduced."

What is our primary use case?

We are using it at the hospitals for transmission for hardware switches. We are connected with various IoT devices.

    What is most valuable?

Its ease of use and flexibility are most valuable. It is cloud-based software.

    What needs improvement?

    Its price should be reduced.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have more than 40 users at the moment, but the number is growing.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their support is extremely good. They generally dispatch the hardware in four hours. They give us a dispatch notice just after four hours of lodging a complaint. Their engineer does the on-site visit within 24 hours.

    How was the initial setup?

It is not complicated. It is quite user-friendly.

    Top 20
Centralized control simplifies network management for non-profit environments
    Pros and Cons
    • "I would recommend Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN simply because of the ease of deployment and its reliability."
    • "The stability could be better. We have experienced many instances where we have experienced a lag in our network, and I am not sure if it is due to their devices or our network."

What is our primary use case?

We have two different environments. We have set it up in a large building with five access points, and one access point in another building. We are a non-profit organization.

    What is most valuable?

The ability to program all access points from the Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN dashboard, view the status of all of them, and examine the individual devices connected to each access point is very valuable. Making a change on one access point and having that propagate to all the other ones makes centralized control very important and easy.

    What needs improvement?

Some of the newer models of the Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN access point have encompassed the new wireless protocols and increased the strength of their antennas, so they are already improving their product.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the solution for about three years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

We were able to deploy the system without assistance, as the online documentation provided a lot of step-by-step guides for setup. Deploying it was straightforward, and the solution was initially set up by programming one device and then copying settings to the others.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability could be better. We have experienced many instances where we have experienced a lag in our network, and I am not sure if it is due to their devices or our network. Overall, I would rate the stability an eight out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

I did not really deal with them at all. We were able to handle the deployment on our own.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Cisco wireless access points, but they became outdated and were no longer in service. They were upgraded to Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN access points.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was very easy. We just had to program one of the access points, and then we copied those settings to the others, making the deployment process efficient.

    What about the implementation team?

The implementation involved two people. One person handled all the initial configurations, while two people actually placed the devices.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN is on par with other devices in that category, offering competitive pricing.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

    Arctic Wolf, Exidium (Komodo)

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN simply because of the ease of deployment and its reliability. Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten.
