Backups and restores are easy and we can do on-site disaster recovery within minutes
The benefits of using Infrascale Backup & Disaster Recovery become evident very quickly. You have the solution on-prem and can restore files and servers on-prem as well. You can set up certain virtual machines on-prem if you need them. If a machine goes down or has an error, you can put the machines into the cloud, which is very important if there's a fire or a disaster, where you really have to get the business working again. It's very quick. I saw those benefits immediately; that was one of the reasons we moved certain customers over to the Infrascale solution. They had different solutions in place before and were not happy with the amount of time it took to restore data or perform disaster recovery. We tested it out and ran some server restores before signing the customer up for the solution. It is very important for my organization that Infrascale Backup & Disaster Recovery is available via a single dashboard. I have multiple customers, so being able to see all of them in one single dashboard and drill deeper into the servers is very important for me. Infrascale's unified dashboard has helped me save time. Infrascale's ability to restore data is great, fast, and very efficient.

Provides effective backup for physical servers and needs improvements for cloud compatibility
We use OpenText Data Protector for Oracle database backup and some applications that run for database security OpenText Data Protector is good for physical backup, specifically for physical servers. It is effective for direct backups to EMC library or storage without using a repository. However,…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup was straightforward and we received support from the manufacturer."
"What I like the most about it is that backups and restores are simple, straightforward, and clean. It does not require six people to get involved in order to do a restore or perform a backup."
"Get Infrascale and talk to their team. They will support you, and they will make you the happiest customer out there."
"Given that we are in the hurricane belt, the spin-up of replicated servers in the cloud is among the most valuable features, because if our site goes down we can just connect to the cloud appliance, spin up the servers, and we are good to go."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is that it is simple to use."
"It works a treat and does the job perfectly."
"For this particular client, the solution’s Critical Server Insurance feature that protects physical and virtual servers including Windows, Linux, VMware, and Hyper-V, was a very big factor as well. They have a bunch of physical servers, as well as virtual. The mix is predominantly virtual. They also have some NAS boxes that we back up using Infrascale."
"The interface of Infrascale Backup & Disaster Recovery is very easy to use, and there are no problems. It's set it and forget it. You can make adjustments very easily as well."
"Deduplication implementation with CAPA is very good."
"When we chose the solution, reliability was absolutely the most important criteria, and we’re absolutely satisfied."
"It is more user-friendly."
"Performs the backup properly and protects our data."
"I like that it supports HPE UNIX servers since many backup solutions do not - this is the main reason why we chose this solution."
"The best and biggest improvement for us is that we can rely on the backups it provides."
"The most valuable features of this solution were the features we worked most with which were telemetry, and the scheduler."
"It's very easy to use."

Cons

"When you are ordering hardware appliances, they have to be delivered from America. In the past, hard drives on the appliance have been simple SSD drives that are installed. However, they don't have a local supply for the SSD drives in the UK. They have to be exported from the US, arrive, and then I have to go and install them. Then, they will rebuild it from their side of things. However, I could order that same SSD drive online and get it the next day. So, I have to wait days for things to come when I could get the exact same drive the next day in the UK, if I wanted to. That causes a bit of a problem. I don't know how many businesses they have in the UK, but I do think that having to import stuff from the US is a time-consuming problem. If there was a holding in the UK, then we wouldn't have that delay in time."
"In terms of what I would like to see, it would be to make the solution available across multiple clouds."
"The only thing I would suggest, and I have talked to my manager about it already, is that they should have a direct backup-to-cloud solution."
"There could be some room for improvement in the on-premises hardware selection."
"One of the significant drawbacks of it is due to the fact that we're using two devices to manage the same vCenter, or virtualization environment, and they don't talk to each other. That means I can't easily see what VMs are already being protected. If I'm on Infrascale device "A" and I have protected these VMs, when I go over to device "B," I can't see that those VMs are already covered."
"The only thing I would suggest, and I have talked to my manager about it already, is that they should have a direct backup-to-cloud solution. It should be something that does not require me to do an image backup, and then individual file and folder backups, to be able to restore individual files."
"There is room for improvement by making the interface a little more intuitive when navigating to recover flat files or an old server."
"Their margin from what they're wholesale and their MSRP is kind of tight for people who have to manage it."
"Support is poor, I would rate it a two out of five."
"I think their support is OK, but not very good."
"It is scalable. It's not as scalable as HPE would like to think it is."
"I do not think that this solution is relevant in the current IT market. They have not upgraded their features and functionalities which makes it difficult for them to remain competitive."
"The downside of the flexibility on offer is if you over-configure it, it may fail to function as some configurations may not match."
"Many of our users complain about the GUI. You still need to rely on the command line interface. Because it originated as a Unix system, Data Protector is still a command line-driven solution, which makes it seem rather dated compared to systems that are built around a GUI from day one. It doesn't affect the functionality, but some people don't find it user-friendly."
"The downside of the flexibility on offer is if you over-configure it, it may fail to function as some configurations may not match."
"With scalability, there are a few limitations. It's limited to certain platforms."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is super competitive. It is worth taking a look at it from a licensing and pricing perspective."
"They are incredibly fair and willing to work with their partners to make their pricing work for both partners and the end users."
"Pricing of the product could be improved. It definitely makes it a harder sell. They will usually end up getting close to the price we need, but I have to go through everybody to get the price reduced. Their list pricing is significantly higher than that of other solutions."
"The pricing is pretty good and competitive with the market. The per-terabyte pricing is very competitive compared to the others."
"The appliances have different prices because of storage, size, and memory. For example, the older machines support more virtual machines, whereas the new one only supports one virtual machine. As we have purchased the later appliances, they have probably been a little bit more expensive because they have to be good enough to keep the business running if the physical server goes down. We learned our lesson from the one that went down when we tried to run products and it wasn't quick enough."
"You get unlimited clients and buy a bucket of space. In addition to the standard fees there were setup fees."
"The pricing is fair, and they are interested in working with MSPs as part of their market."
"The licensing is based on how much data you have plus what appliances you need."
"It is more affordable compared to other vendors."
"The pricing is neither too expensive nor very cheap."
"The licensing cost was not annual. We didn't pay any license. We paid when we deployed and we didn't pay for anything after that. There were no additional fees after the initial payment."
"We have many competitors who are pricing better, and we believe that our pricing is higher."
"Data Protector's pricing is very competitive and we have no issues in this regard. I would give it an eight out of ten in terms of pricing."
"The product is cheaper than Commvault."
"Avoid using many LTO drives; when using fewer drives, the price will be extremely good."
"Pricing/licensing is Data Protector's single best offering. In its most basic environment, the only license required is for whatever target device is required."
