What is our primary use case?

We use this product for backing up on-premises virtual servers. We have virtual servers at our two sites that we back up, and we also replicate them between each other.

What is most valuable?

Compared to other products, Veeam has a lot of features for the price.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see better features for exporting to cloud-based repositories.

Having reduced pricing for smaller businesses would be helpful.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for approximately 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This product is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are two of us, myself and my colleague, who use this solution in our company.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have been in contact with technical support and they are very good.

How was the initial setup?

I find the installation fairly easy, although I've been working with it for quite a while.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This product is not cheap, but it's well worth the cost.

What other advice do I have?

I am looking forward to a new feature that is coming out in version 11 that allows you to lock your backups in a Linux backup repository. This will stop ransomware from destroying your backups.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

I use it for our VMware environment and physical servers. It is a good product, in regards to performance, as well as data protection. 

How has it helped my organization?

After we bought this product, we backed up all the servers of Azure, as well as our physical servers. 

The product is user-friendly. 

What is most valuable?

  • Restore "File" and "Folder" from VM Backup in Windows, as well as Linux.
  • AD Restore 
  • Exchange Database
  • SQL Database
  • Veeam dedup and compression 

What needs improvement?

In Linux, I suggest you backup for a PostgreSQL database.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

It has very good stability. It doesn't have any glitches, and it is very stable so far.

It is very scalable. You need more licensing to scale it. 

We have five users of this solution in our company.

The initial setup was easy. The deployment took two and a half hours.

It is more expensive than other solutions.

Feature-wise, it is a good solution. You can install the free version of this solution to try it out. This free version is valid for 13 days.

It was straightforward. Basically, it was start, next, then finish.

It can be costly if the wrong license type is chosen. It is important to know what is needed before ordering.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have used all flavors of backup solutions since early 1990s, this is by far the most advanced yet and easiest product to use.

What other advice do I have?

Use a skilled consultant for the initial setup, then let him/her teach you for a day and you are set.

It provides detailed monitoring and alerting. I'd like to see Xen- and KVM-based virtualization monitoring improved

  • Detailed monitoring and alerting (I loved the advanced monitoring and reporting at my previous organization)

Previously, the infrastructure was configured and backed up at the application level and configuration changes were not replicated. With replication at the infrastructure level now, we don't have to worry about configuration changes.

What needs improvement?

  • Monitoring of Xen- and KVM-based virtualization

It’s a simple and reliable solution, especially as I have experience with VMware products (ESXi).
