Review about Veeam Backup & Replication
Pros and Cons
  • "Veeam's file monitoring capabilities are strong and consistent."
  • "The Veeam portal should be better integrated with all the parts of the new release. But there's always a workaround to replicate the new solution. I'd like to have better integration with other solutions like SAP."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam to protect and replicate the data. We need another tool for protecting the information.

What is most valuable?

Veeam's file monitoring capabilities are strong and consistent.

What needs improvement?

The Veeam portal should be better integrated with all the parts of the new release. But there's always a workaround to replicate the new solution. I'd like to have better integration with other solutions like SAP.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with Veeam Backup for three years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam is highly scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Veeam support is integrated across phone, chat, and email, and they have excellent discipline.

How was the initial setup?

Veeam is relatively easy to deploy and you have two options. It only takes one engineer to deploy and maintain.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veeam nine out of 10. Cloud integration is a good option. They have many ways to provide integration. Some on-premise elements are part of the integration with Google. You can add part of the center to the backup to create a hybrid setup. It's not enough to have all the backup with RAMM or ERMA. The portfolio that comes with Veeam is easy, and that's also good to have — to cover all the enterprise and part of the availability suite.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

What other advice do I have?

We discovered Veeam Backup Replication with our presales people in our company. We did a POC at our office which is mandatory by our technical director when we discover a new solution. Additionally, we show them the difference between using Veritas Backup Exec and the Veeam Backup Replication.

Veeam needs to work on their marketing for their solutions.

I would recommend this solution to others.

I rate Veeam Backup Replication a nine out of ten.

It offers granular restore points for SharePoint. I'm looking for it to support Unix/Linux platforms.

Valuable Features:

  • Simple VM backup & restore management console
  • Works with both industry standard hypervisors, VMware & Hyper-V
  • Fast and easy implementation
  • Granular restore points for SharePoint

Improvements to My Organization:

It provides simple DR operation & management for our heterogeneous virtualisation platform.

Room for Improvement:

Besides Wintel environments, it would be good to have DR/HA for Unix/Linux platforms.

Use of Solution:

I have been using it for 1½ years.

Deployment Issues:

We have not had any issues with deployment, stability, or scalability.

Customer Service:

Customer service is awesome.

Initial Setup:

Initial setup was straightforward because it only provides DR.

Implementation Team:

Project implementation was via a vendor team.

Other Solutions Considered:

We evaluated Availl software, because of their Wide Area File System technology.
