If you are in a virtualized environment, there is nothing better than Veeam One but the alerts need better descriptions.

What is most valuable?

I really like the reporting. You can build your own reports and schedule to send them any time. I also like the fact that alerts are resolved automatically if there is no longer an issue.

How has it helped my organization?

From a storage prospective we were getting alerts when the Hyper V LUNS reached the threshold and we were able to fix the space issue before something worse happened.

No more surprises about our Hyper-V environment, storage.

What needs improvement?

Better description of the problems as the alerts are missing good descriptions. Sometimes you need to spend extra time to Google the error because the information from the alerts is not clear enough.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used it for two years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Deployment is very simple, the installation wizard is very easy and then it is just simply adding whatever you want to monitor.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I don't have any stability issues.

How are customer service and support?

I need to give them 10/10. All the cases are resolved in the time they give.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used PRTG but we were getting a lot of false positives.

What other advice do I have?

If you are using a virtualized environment, there is nothing better than Veeam Backup and Veeam One.

If you deploy Veeam Backup and Veeam One, you will sleep much better.

How was the initial setup?

Initial set up was bit complicated. Policy definition is not easy.

What about the implementation team?

We used a vendor team whose expertise was 2/10.

What was our ROI?

It's not 100%.

It is easy to recognize issues before they become significant although identifying hardware issues needs work

What is most valuable?

We like the alerting, reporting, and the dashboard features.

How has it helped my organization?

Using the reporting and dashboard features has allowed us to remain proactive with our infrastructure such as identifying datastores with high IOPS or an ESXi host with high memory utilization. Veeam ONE delivers this data in a user-friendly format that makes it easy to recognize issues before they become significant.

What needs improvement?

Veeam ONE does not easily recognize hardware issues within the infrastructure out of the box which costs some administrative overhead.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Veeam ONE for just over one year.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

No issues encountered.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability has been perfect. Definitely no complaints in that area.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have a fairly small infrastructure so scalability isn’t something we’ve tested.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

We have not needed to contact Veeam customer service.

Technical Support:

We have not needed to contact Veeam technical support. Any configuration issues have been solved using their knowledge base.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) prior to using Veeam ONE. We switched to Veeam ONE when the decision to use a third party solution was implemented.

How was the initial setup?

Deployment was very easy and straightforward. It was mostly “Next, Next, Next, Finish” during the deployment.Connecting Veeam ONE to our vCenter and creating the SQL database on a remote host were the only details that required any focus.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented Veeam ONE in-house, specifically with just one administrator; very easy to implement.

What was our ROI?

ROI is difficult to measure in a cost center since we don’t produce revenue.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Veeam ONE was procured through a promotion that coupled it with Veeam Backup and Replication. We were interested in a backup solution for our hypervisor environment however Veeam ONE quickly proved to be a solution we intend to license for the long term. As I’ve already mentioned with the ease of setup and use, costs have been minimal.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Veeam ONE is actually complimenting a different product leveraged through a third party contract. The third party is responsible for monitoring our business-critical systems, however, we prefer Veeam ONE because it recognizes issues before the third party solution does and, because no Veeam ONE agent is required, we’re comfortable using two monitoring solutions with no significant resource overhead costs.

What other advice do I have?

Veeam ONE is the perfect solution for monitoring and managing your hypervisor infrastructure. However we rely on a different solution for systems that are not part of our hypervisor infrastructure such as our database servers.

My storage is pretty simple, consisting of (2) HP P2000 G3 SANs so I use the email notification feature on the controllers to notify me of storage hardware events. Veeam ONE picks up issues with the datastores so I seem to have the bases covered for storage.

Set up is very easy. Pick your proxy server, set up the repositories and off you go. The backup compressions needs work.

What is most valuable?

  • Replication
  • WAN Accelerator
  • Backup
  • Ease of use
  • File Level restoration

How has it helped my organization?

Restores are faster. Moving virtual machines from one location to another is easier and is far less time consuming than Tape backups. Setting up jobs replicas or backup jobs is also quick and easy.

What needs improvement?

Backup compression. It has got better but still could improve somewhat.

For how long have I used the solution?

3+ years (I started with the Veeam Free Edition and have used the Full Product since 6.5)

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

The only issues i've had is with updates. The program will error and then the server needs rebooting or the patch reapplied. I have only noticed that issue with version 7.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Only stability issues are as i stated in the above question.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No issues. You can make many repositories in all different locations if needed.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

4/5 as the support is very good and responsive. I have always received the correct answer the first time calling.

Technical Support:

Same as Customer Service. Top Notch. Always very responsive and get the answer the first time. Tech's really know their product well.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Nope. I have always used Veeam for virtual machines and Backup Exec for physical boxes.

How was the initial setup?

Set up is very easy. Pick your proxy server, set up the repositories and off you go.

What about the implementation team?

In house with only the documents from Veeam. No problems at all.

What was our ROI?

This is a good question. Veeam is competitively priced. When compared to Tape or other virtual solutions Veeam is by far the most cost effective. I spend 75-80% less time managing backups than i used too. Troubleshooting is easier, and it has less moving parts than traditional backup solutions.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I can't remember. Veeam is licensed by processor and I would say it is much cheaper than it's competitors.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Not really Veeam is far and away the market leader for virtual environment. I have looked at vRanger and Appassure.

What other advice do I have?

Don't wait. It is a very simple install and your backup and replication jobs will run better than ever.

Veeam is meant for Virtual environment but with the new Endpoint Backup solution you should be able to back up those physical servers.

Physical servers backup could be improved but the simplicity of the product is great.

What is most valuable?

- CBT (Change block tracking)

- Agent less

- Replication

- Dedupe

How has it helped my organization?

- Reducing backup storage

- Reducing backup time

What needs improvement?

Physical servers backup.

For how long have I used the solution?

2 Years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Yes, but solved in a few time by the support.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No issues with scalability.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

10/10 - Very fast answer and follow up.

Technical Support:

10/10.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Symantec Netbackup. We changed when we saw the promise of Veeam.

And these promises have been delivered!

How was the initial setup?

Straightforward. More simple to administrate than a Netbackup or other one.

What about the implementation team?

No, we implemented in house, with help of the support line.

What was our ROI?

Divide the cost of the backup by 2!

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Actually, the cost is more than one hour of work per day (at maximum). I don't know the real cost of installation.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

None, this is a competitive upgrade purposed by Veeam.

What other advice do I have?

Simplicity!

We previously used Backup exec, and evaluated Acronis before we chose this solution. Our ROI is one year.

I have been using this solution since 2008 and find the fast recover and deduplication of this product valuable. An example of how this product has improved the way our organization functions is that it recover Citrix farm in 15 minutes. The exchange and Sharepoint have room for improvement. We encounter no issues with deployment, stability or scalability. We implemented through a vendor team; their level of expertise was high. Initial setup was straightforward.

I would rate the level of customer service a 10 and the level of technical support a 9, so both were really excellent. We previously used Backup exec, and evaluated Acronis before we chose this solution. Our ROI on this product is one year. Costs for day-to-day and setup are 1 day cost to deploy, day-to-day depends.

Most valuable features are explorer for exchange and instant vm recovery. Veeam Vpower Technology could be better.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of this product are "explorer for exchange" and "instant vm recovery."

"Veeam Vpower Technology" is the area of this product that is open for improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for 3 years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

I haven't encountered any issues with deployment for 3 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product has a flexible and improvable structure.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As I said before the product has a versatile conformation.

I rate the level of customer service 9 out of 10.

Technical Support:

The level of technical support is a 10 out of 10.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have previously used many different solutions and choose Veeam for its quick and correct solutions for my problems.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of "Veeam Backup & Replication" is straightforward and easy.

What about the implementation team?

I implemented the product myself on my own. I am the responsible system engineer supervising all back up systems and Veeam Products.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Our original setup cost for this product was a fair price and we don't have any extra costs.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before choosing this product, I evaluated products of Symantec and Acronis.

What other advice do I have?

I advise this product to all system managers who need to use back up systems.
