Freelance IT Consultant at a tech consulting company with 51-200 employees
It has made the VM infrastructure easier to manage, as well as simplifying the backup and restore process.
Valuable Features
The product is really easy to use.
Improvements to My Organization
It has made the VM infrastructure easier to manage, as well as simplifying the backup and restore process.
Room for Improvement
The tape management is not really efficient and some other products are better. I know that backup on tape is not the the main target of Veeam but, it's important.
Use of Solution
I've used it for two years.
Deployment Issues
Nothing serious.
Stability Issues
Sometimes, the memory is not big enough, and I would guess that a leak might be present. Performing a monthly reboot solve this (at the same time as Windows updates).
Scalability Issues
No issues encountered.
Customer Service and Technical Support
Customer Service:
It's good.
Technical Support:It's poor for certain issues (with the Veeam One product, the guys did not talk together and asked the same question several times). We had a loss of production time, and the answers they gave were not efficient.
Initial Setup
It was simple and fast.
Implementation Team
I implemented it myself.
Other Solutions Considered
I also looked at Avamar, Symanted and TSM which are better for tape management and data retention management, but expensive. Veeam however, is the easiest way to manage virtual infrastructure backup, and the cost is better, when compared with some other solutions.
Other Advice
Evaluate your needs before choosing a product. If tape management is required only, then Veeam is not the choice.

Datacenter Core Infrastructure with 1,001-5,000 employees
Transparent and easy to use, which improves usability and manageability for the daily operations a backup/system administrator performs.
What is most valuable?
It is important that a backup product delivers what it promises. As backup features are important, so are restore features. The ability of Veeam Backup & Replication suite to restore various items in a granular and fast way (RPO & RTO importance) is key for our customers.
How has it helped my organization?
Veeam B&R software is transparent and easy to use, which improves usability and manageability for the daily operations a backup/system administrator performs. Setting up a backup application/infrastructure is one thing, but to keep it operational without having to deal with big issues is another. I barely encounter situations where Veeam B&R setup disappoints our customers.
What needs improvement?
Two months ago, I would have said the integration of Veeam Endpoint Backup with Veeam B&R, but this is covered by now with Veeam 8 U2. The feature that a few customers are waiting is SharePoint item restores via redirected SQL, instead of having to install a staging SQL instance on the Veeam B&R backup server.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been installing and configuring it for three and a half years.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Every IT environment has it's specific needs and caveats. Of course I encountered some minor issues when deploying Veeam, but this is mostly related to the IT environment itself. Rare issues are logged with, and solved by Veeam support.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
No issues encountered.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
No, Veeam B&R provides a flexible way of working and scaling with the breakdown of different functionalities (proxies, repositories etc.).
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
In all the cases where I had to contact Veeam customer service, a solution was delivered within a short timeframe.
Technical Support:In all the cases where I had to contact Veeam Technical support, a solution was delivered within a short timeframe.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have experience with Backup Exec. The backup/restore capabilities are far away from the Veeam Suite.
How was the initial setup?
It's straightforward.
What about the implementation team?
We are installing/configuring Veeam in customer environments.
What was our ROI?
As system integrator we offer various backup/replication products. I have no personal hands-on experience with other products except Backup Exec, and Veeam.
What other advice do I have?
It's important to make a correct design which maps on your IT environment needs. A simple Veeam POC can be setup to validate the product.

Surebackup allows verification of the backup. This provides a higher level of confidence.

No issues encountered.
How are customer service and technical support?
Customer Service:
It's excellent.
Technical Support:It's just below excellent.

How was the initial setup?
It depends on the organizations structure and level of optimization.
What about the implementation team?
It was an in-house implementation.
What was our ROI?
Just recently, I retired Backup Exec, and added Veeam v8. This increased the backup scope by 30% and reduced tape usage by 70%

Not sure why your backups fail with the Proxies but I have never had that issue. We have a physical Veeam server and 1 Proxy per host which works great for SAN based backups. Check with Support on that.

Go for it, you’ll never regret it.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
We implemented Endpoint Backup on our Exchange server (and the rest of our physical servers--the last holdouts) a few weeks ago and LOVE it. It's so nice to be rid of the tape backups and take us humans out of the equation in regards to our data backup and replication (onsite and offsite backups).
