Our primary use case is for documentation. We used to maintain other documents in another location, but we moved to Confluence. We use it for the design documentation perspective, not for the analytics perspective.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is stable and well-integrated with Jira.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This solution is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
I have never directly contacted Atlassian technical support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I use SharePoint as well, mainly for the version control because I still need to prepare the document in Word and Visio and then load it to SharePoint.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup, the installation, was managed by someone else.
What about the implementation team?
I implemented through an in-house team of three developers and engineers. They maintain both Confluence and Jira.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I believe we have the Enterprise license with Confluence.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend Confluence to others. There are about 400 people in my company using this solution. However, if you are doing extensive drawings or looking for the version-control perspective, then I would caution you and suggest looking at another solution.
I would rate Confluence a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Senior Software Engineer at a tech vendor with 5,001-10,000 employees
Enhanced team productivity with organized documentation and integration features
Pros and Cons
- "Confluence is very easy to use and feature-packed."
- "The discoverability of documents could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We mainly use Confluence for our internal documentation work and to plan new features, design documents, and knowledge transfer documents. Most of the documentation work is done using Confluence.
We have a separate Confluence space for our team, with public articles about our projects and how to set up our repositories, available for anyone to access.
Additionally, we maintain private content within the team's Confluence space.
How has it helped my organization?
Confluence has significantly improved the productivity of our team. Previously, finding information required asking someone or searching through improperly organized resources. Now, all onboarding documents, knowledge transfer documents, and documents regarding features are within our Confluence space, making it easy to find information as needed.
What is most valuable?
Confluence is very easy to use and feature-packed. It allows us to design well-organized documents and offers valuable add-ons. Its integration capabilities enable direct linking of pull requests and certain issues across spaces, facilitating easy navigation and enhanced collaborative work.
What needs improvement?
The discoverability of documents could be improved. In scenarios where documents are managed by another department or we are looking for specific documents, the process could be enhanced for easier discovery.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been working with Confluence for about a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Confluence is stable, and we haven't experienced any disruptions with their service.
How are customer service and support?
We have not escalated any questions to technical support.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Before Confluence, we predominantly used SharePoint and Microsoft products. We decided to switch to Confluence as we were already using Jira and Bitbucket, making the transition to Confluence seamless with other Atlassian products.
What other advice do I have?
Properly use the features available in Confluence, such as site spaces and other functionalities.
I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

893,311 professionals have used our research since 2012.
DevOps Engineer at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Offers great features to control important documents
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature of the solution stems from its document-controlling feature. In Atlassian Confluence, controlled documents cannot be edited by anyone else."
- "Atlassian Confluence's old versions consume too much memory, making it an area where optimization is required from an improvement perspective."
What is our primary use case?
I use the solution in my company for documentation purposes. Most of our company's release notes are present on Atlassian Confluence for client review and for the processes we use in our organization. All the details about the new features of the upcoming releases and all the stuff related to the company policies, like employee engagement and everything else that should be documented, are present in Atlassian Confluence. I use Atlassian Confluence for document-controlling purposes.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of the solution stems from its document-controlling feature. In Atlassian Confluence, controlled documents cannot be edited by anyone else.
What needs improvement?
I would say that Atlassian Confluence's old versions consume too much memory, making it an area where optimization is required from an improvement perspective.
There are some issues with the templates in Atlassian Confluence. In our company, when some team members try to edit the templates in the product, they get stuck. There were complaints about the templates being less refined. When the components increase in the template, the product's users in our company get stuck, making it in an area where improvements are required.
It would be great if Atlassian Confluence could integrate with Microsoft Teams since it would allow our company to use just one tool instead of two.
The quality of the technical support needs improvement.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Atlassian Confluence since 2020. I am a user of the tool.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability-wise, I rate the solution as eight out of ten due to the high memory consumption of the product, specifically its IaaS and not the SaaS version.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.
The tool is suitable for all types of companies. Many enterprise-level companies use Atlassian Confluence because they have lengthy processes that run for years. The aforementioned area prompts enterprises to choose Atlassian Confluence for their documentation.
How are customer service and support?
Even though my company is able to open tickets with the tool's support team, we haven't gotten all of our issues resolved. I rate the technical support a six out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
With Atlassian Confluence, there are two types of setup processes available. My company uses the on-premises version of the product. My company also uses its own infrastructure to host Atlassian Confluence. Our company also uses the SaaS version of the product. In general, both versions of the product are being used for different projects. I think the SaaS version of the product does great in terms of memory and everything. The on-premises version of the product is a bit old but is more secure and preferred by our clients since they feel that their documents are safe in an on-premises setup.
What other advice do I have?
In terms of the tool's ability to ensure better productivity of the team in our company, I would say that the old versions of Atlassian Confluence consume too much memory while also using Java libraries.
I don't think that the product ensures better communication between my team members.
It is secure to share documents through Atlassian Confluence. Documents shared via Atlassian Confluence cannot be edited or modified until and unless they are reviewed by the specific person for whom they are meant.
Though not to a large extent, my company has used Atlassian Confluence's integration capabilities. In our company, there were a few products for which we had to review the links with the clients and review the documentation, which was not much. I think Atlassian Confluence has much more to offer, but my company hasn't explored it that much.
If I consider large volumes of pages and space, I would say that the tool works fine with large virtual volumes of pages and spaces, but not all the time.
I recommend the product to those who plan to use it.
I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

Principal Consultant at Contribyte
Provides great search functionality with the main value being ease of communication
Pros and Cons
- "The search functionality is a really powerful feature."
- "It lacks ease of integration."
What is our primary use case?
We provide this solution to customers and also use it in our company. It's often used as an intranet and then for collaboration or communication. It enables you to have project spaces or team internal spaces and different types of documentation. We are platinum partners with Atlassian and I'm a principal consultant.
What is most valuable?
I think the structuring of information into spaces and the search functionality are really powerful features. The solution is user-friendly and anyone can comment or write documentation related to a customer's project. The main value is that Confluence makes communication easier. It has a very unique feature in that it has a marketplace of apps which means you can extend Confluence by installing apps into it and make it work differently.
What needs improvement?
I'd like to see easier integration.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for 10 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is very good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable, we have around 600 users. We'll probably expand usage to new areas.
How are customer service and support?
Customer support has deteriorated because the company has grown so much. They can't provide the same level of service. We provide consultancy services so it works to our benefit.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've also used Sharepoint and in comparing the two, Confluence makes communication much easier. SharePoint is more difficult to use and a complex solution.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup requires some planning. To get Confluence up and running took a day but it took close to a year before everyone felt comfortable with the solution. Following the initial setup, it required user management and security settings. And then build the data structure or space structure and install plugins. Following that there is a training process for users. We deployed internally because we have experience providing that type of consultancy to other companies. Half of the companies we deploy to use some external help and half do it by themselves. It takes longer if you do it without assistance.
Maintenance requires less than one man month per year because you don't have to install updates. But still there's some maintenance, cleaning up data and fixing the permits and things like that.
What was our ROI?
The ROI is both in terms of time as well as financial.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Confluence used to be really affordable but they've been increasing their prices. It's not super expensive but more expensive than it used to be. We pay an annual licensing fee which includes some essential plugins.
What other advice do I have?
Spend some time planning the structure and how you're going to use Confluence and provide some initial training. It makes the deployment easier.
I rate this solution nine out of 10.

Mass Spectometry Specialist at a pharma/biotech company with 11-50 employees
Provides fast communication with great shareable and co-editing features
Pros and Cons
- "Great shareable and co-editing features."
- "RAM usage seems to be higher than it should be."
What is our primary use case?
This solution is for sharing records. We are customers of Confluence.
How has it helped my organization?
Confluence has helped us by providing faster communication.
What is most valuable?
I like the shareable and co-editing features.
What needs improvement?
If there are multiple links on one page, the usage of RAM is extremely high. I'd like to see an improvement in the way they optimize the preview of the link because it feels like too much RAM is being used.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for about a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
There are occasionally some glitches and the system crashes, but not too often.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is fairly simple, it's just a website that you login to use. There's nothing to install. Just register an account and use it.
What was our ROI?
We've saved time by using this product.
What other advice do I have?
I use this solution all the time for record keeping. I suggest to anyone using this solution to be creative. It's a platform so its use is really up to the user.
I rate this solution nine out of 10.

DevOps Engineer Consultant at a tech services company with 201-500 employees
Simple to set up, effective, capable of storing and sharing data
Pros and Cons
- "It is a very popular tool."
What is our primary use case?
We mostly use Atlassian Confluence to store information and share knowledge with a colleague.
What is most valuable?
It is a very popular tool.
What needs improvement?
Making integration with other tools easier would be beneficial.
I have found, for example, that Confluence and Teams may be integrated. It's a Microsoft tool, and I was having trouble integrating it the last time.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been with the company for one month.
I have been working with Atlassian Confluence for one month.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In my opinion, Atlassian Confluence is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Atlassian Confluence appears to be quite scalable based on the applications that I have seen.
It is difficult to estimate since we are an international company with, I believe, 2,000 employees in Belgium. It is possible that we have 100 users.
How are customer service and support?
I have not had any contact with technical support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I am familiar with New Relic and Dynatrace.
I am quite junior at Dynatrace, but this is the tool we use at work.
We use Dynatrace, Azure DevOps, and SharePoint. I'm considering all of my options. At the present, we largely use the tools I stated.
I did automate SharePoint, but it was in a previous mission. It was a previous job; it is not my present employment.
I don't use GitLab or BitBucket personally, but it's possible that in the future, we will have to implement those tools for the clients.
We are an Atlassian partner, BitBucket is an Atlassian product.
I'm also involved with DevOps. It depends on what the client requests, and we are highly likely to use such products.
We also work with JIRA. Some of our colleagues are JIRA administrators.
We used to store using text editors before, but nothing compared to Confluence.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very simple.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I am not aware of the pricing.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
My organization has a partnership with Dynatrace, and I have created a small project to compare New Relic with Dynatrace. I downloaded a report, which was helpful in this regard.
What other advice do I have?
I recommend it to all developers as well as students. because I used it as a student in a team.
We are able to store all of the necessary information for all of the students, developers, and architects. All the individuals involved in our software projects.
Also, it is functional.
I believe we are a reseller and a partner, but I'm not sure since it's largely my colleagues.
For the implementation of Atlassian, some of them are already certified, and with the certification, they are a partner. They work with a limited number of Atlassian-certified individuals.
I would rate Atlassian Confluence an eight out of ten.

What is our primary use case?
We use this solution for all activities related to the software development lifecycle. We use it starting from product spec and product definition documents and release notes to any customer discussion documents, design or architecture documents.
What is most valuable?
The ease of use has been one of the most valuable features. It has a very simple wiki. The other salient feature is the search capability and association with Jira, which comes integrated with it that makes it convenient to use.
What needs improvement?
The user interface is a little bit stale. The file attachments and how they work could be improved. There is also room for improvement when it comes to CDNs.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a very stable solution. I would rate it a ten out of ten.

We have rarely needed any assistance from the support team. When we have needed support, they have been very helpful.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very simple.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The Confluence pricing is good. The only challenge we have experienced is with Jira and the add ons we use that need to be paid for separately.
What other advice do I have?
I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Team collaboration solution that is scalable but would be improved by offering better exporting functionality
Pros and Cons
- "This is a scalable solution that supports thousands of users."
- "This is a scalable solution that supports thousands of users."

- "When you are creating a table in Confluence, there is no tool to export it into an Excel sheet for quick references; we can only export it as a PDF file, but not into an editable file."
What is our primary use case?
We use Confluence for project documentation alongside Jira which we use for all our task assignments.
We have been using Jira for six months and have not yet used it to its full potential as we do not have qualified scrum masters in our team. We are able to assign tickets, make a scrum board and a sprint system.
We have thousands of users who work with this solution.
What needs improvement?
When you are creating a table in Confluence, there is no tool to export it into Excel sheet for quick references. We can only export it as an a PDF file, but not into an editable file.
If you new user wants to have access to data and do some analysis on the data, they need to convert it to PDF and then extract the tables. We would like to have an export button that could move the data to an editable format.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for two years.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a scalable solution.
How are customer service and support?
