Process mining has delivered major savings and now needs better automation and task mining
Collaboration with ERPs should be improved. Compared to SAP Signavio, Celonis is less competitive for BPMN modeling. Deployment flexibility needs enhancement, as on-premises support is not as strong as SaaS support. The most important area for improvement is the automation part. End-to-end automation capabilities are desired. Currently, workflows are being used, but actions should be able to go via email, task, APIs, and ultimately write back to the source. Adding RPA capability that can interact with required systems and write back to the source would greatly enhance Celonis. Task mining capabilities also require improvement. UiPath Process Mining and Microsoft Process Mining have better task mining capabilities compared to Celonis. Usability and support from Celonis need improvement. They should help clients find more value in the product. Cost is another significant concern, as Celonis is very expensive compared to other process mining tools. The license cost should be reduced. Celonis should establish partnerships with clients to find more use cases and maximize the value gained from Celonis.

If customers want to change the color or the logo, they have to go through every page to verify everything is right. We have a strategic approach for the customer. I was involved in almost 100 sessions where the customers were looking for a one-time process visualization or one-time process mining, not for a long-term association with this tool. The customer's requirements are more tactical than strategic. We had some challenges during this time frame as I was with iGrafx, and electricity costs rose in Germany. One customer stopped a large deal because they had to reduce every non-invested investment due to the electricity bill rising by 500% to 800%.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have seen a positive impact of Celonis in my organization, as I receive many testimonials from clients mentioning that process mining has genuinely helped, especially through Celonis."
"We use the tool for supply chain transformation. The tool has helped us find the bottlenecks in the supply chain like where the delay occurred in delivery, payment, etc. We had to extract two years' of data from the SAP system and an internal tool. We fed the data into Celonis and it created a process map for us with hundreds of variations. It has helped us see where exactly the bottleneck was. The tool has also helped us generate a lot of reviews and KPIs. It has helped us to find the problem and the remedy through process optimization."
"We have found the Orient Explorer to be a valuable feature."
"With the help of data mining, we can identify different costs. Celonis does background research into the data from the different solutions and puts it into the dashboard and so we can see the differences between the pricing over the previous years."
"The fact that this solution is agnostic and you can map a process across multiple systems almost automatically from the moment that you have the data mapped out, makes our lives much easier."
"They have a good UI and good features for data extraction, data load, and data transformation."
"I also tried using UiPath but I found Celonis was better because it provided greater accuracy."
"Celonis’ Process Cockpit is valuable."
"It is one of the top-tier solutions that are available."
"Another good feature is that the numbering of the shapes in iGrafx is much easier and more convenient, in comparison to what is found in Visio. So far I haven't found anything similar to what I have with iGrafx, in that regard."
"It's a great product, but all the functionalities need to be exploited in order to get the full value of the investment."
"We found the technical support to be helpful."
"It has increased accountability by providing defined documentation ownership."
"iGrafx gives you the capability of documenting your process and then the ability to use it as a tool for analysis to identify the loopholes and shortcomings of your process."
"This product fulfills ninety percent of our needs, and we're happy as users of it."
"One of the biggest plus points of the product stems from the fact that I have never seen any glitches in it."

Cons

"I believe Celonis could provide more detailed documentation so that users do not struggle to understand the tool, as the resources are somewhat limited."
"Similar to what SAP is doing with S/4HANA, Celonis should allow business users to create their own analytics tab. In my previous organization, business analysts were the only ones who were actively building these reports with Celonis, whereas SAP platforms are now allowing the business users to create their own reports with graphics and all other things based on the data that is presented. This is one thing that Celonis needs. Currently, just the technical teams are doing that. Sometimes, when we were looking at five years of data, it used to take up to 3 seconds. It wasn't bad, but we had to wait a little bit. It probably also had to do with the server. I don't know if it can be used on mobile devices. If not, that will be the way to go. They should mobilize it to allow people to see these reports on their mobile devices."
"The solution can be a bit expensive."
"The only problem is the price; it is a little bit expensive when we compare it to others."
"The UI could be improved."
"The marketplace should offer process connectors for Oracle JDEdwards, and Peoplesoft."
"We want to see its linkage to Robotic Process Automation. We would also like to see how can it lead to the implementation side and whether the transition is smooth."
"The Process Query Language (PQL) native language used in Celonis needs improvements. It has most of the process-related functions but we have queries from clients that cannot be done in PQL."
"This is a tool that covers the low end (e.g. Visio) to high end (e.g. Aris), although it's much less user friendly."
"I would love to see a template and shapes for customer journey mapping."
"There are a few areas iGrafx which could improve, probably the biggest area would be to support iOS as well as PC, so clients don’t have to emulate PC on an iOS platform."
"If the price of the solution was more competitive, it would have made things easier for our company to extend the usage."
"I would like to see a lower price, although when used correctly, you can have a good return on your investment."
"The look and feel, along with the ease of use of the solution's web modeling version, is an area with certain shortcomings."
"It can be more user-friendly."
"I used the single license product. The entire suite can manage complex organizations, linking it with ERP, but it is not so easy to link it to a new ERP."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Celonis is the most expensive solution in the market"
"The product is pretty expensive but reasonable."
"Celonis has the highest pricing in the process mining domain."
"Celonis is expensive. It's not for mid or low-sized enterprises because the license price is high. Overall, it's quite pricey compared to anything else that I have heard about. But the good thing is that they don't charge per user. They charge for the data model."
"Celonis is expensive, but it is functional."
"Pricing-wise, Celonis is a five out of ten right now because my clients just started with the solution. When my clients start looking at scaling Celonis, the cost will grow. Every user has an additional charge, and every gig of data you bring in costs extra."
"Celonis is a little more expensive than UiPath."
"The solution’s pricing is based on APC. It charges you based on the amount of GV that you use."
"My company is trying to replace iGrafx because the license is a little bit expensive."
"I have heard that the solution's pricing is very competitive."
"The licensing part is one of the problems. Its licensing depends on the number of users, so it sometimes gets expensive."
"Earlier, the licensing part was complex because there were so many modules and elements in the tool. Over the last one and a half years, a lot of work has gone into how the product has priced and positioned its tools in the market."
"Our license is a subscription-based model that is per user. The solution is not expensive, I believe a subscription-based model is $10 per user."
