We use the solution primarily for project management. We organize our work by projects with epics, et cetera. Below that, I believe we are using a Zephyr plugin for QA. We don't use it for product planning.
Senior Scrum Master with 11-50 employees
Very configurable with lots of plugins but not really intuitive
Pros and Cons
- "The solution offers a lot of plugins."
- "I would prefer it if the solution was more intuitive."
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
I would say it's a necessary evil to use a product such as Jira. All of these solutions are a necessary evil. They all have their pros and cons.
What is most valuable?
For what the solution does, it's fine.
The solution offers a lot of plugins.
The solution is very configurable.
What needs improvement?
There's a bit of a learning curve, which I'm not a huge fan of. It's not exactly user-friendly per se.
I would prefer it if the solution was more intuitive.
There are just so many options, that it's pretty overwhelming as a product. There's too much to focus on.
We do find that we need plugins and have created integrations with more robust analytic solutions than Jira provides.
Personally, I'd like it if there was more flexibility in how you could manage the backlog at a project level.

For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Jira for about six months. It hasn't even been a year yet. The solution is still very new to me and I am still learning.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is very, very stable. There's no problem in that sense. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
You can easily scale this solution. If you need to grow it out to meet your company's needs, you can do so. That's not a problem.
We have about 300 users on the solution right now. They include developers, administrators, senior leadership, analysts, designers, and project managers.
How are customer service and support?
I haven't used technical support at all. I can't speak to their reliability or level of knowledge.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Although I wasn't hired at the outset of the company, it's my understanding that they've always used Jira as a solution.
How was the initial setup?
I wasn't involved in the initial implementation of the solution. I just started working with the company six months ago. Honestly, I'm still learning the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I don't have an opinion on the pricing or licensing. It's not really a main concern of mine. I don't have access to any information about what the company pays.
What other advice do I have?
We're just customers. My company doesn't have a professional relationship with Jira.
I'm not sure which version of the solution we're using. I'm not sure of the last time we updated the solution. I've only been at the company for six months.
I'd advise other companies to dedicate two full-time people to learn the solution and train other team members. It's a big learning curve for users. It takes time to get into it. Having dedicated trainers would help onboard people.
Overall, I'd rate the solution seven out of ten. If it was more intuitive, and there was less of a learning curve for new users, I'd rate it much higher.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Private Cloud

Product Owner at a comms service provider with 10,001+ employees
Helps us with product development, planning, and some hardware product development but the performance isn't so good
Pros and Cons
- "There are a lot of different plugins for Jira. Unfortunately, we did not test so many and the big pain point for us is the rigorous handling and the roadmap of Jira. We have a portfolio and structure plugin and we have our story map plugin in Jira"
- "The performance is not so good sometimes. I know that fully depends on the implementation and the IT environment of Jira or the version of Jira installed. The performance is sometimes not so good. I would like to have a better response time from the Jira server. And it fully depends on the administration side of the Jira."
What is our primary use case?
We use Jira for software for product development, planning, some hardware product development, and for some solutions and services. Other teams in our company use Jira for scheduling daily work and daily tasks and try to organize or manage products and projects.
What is most valuable?
There are a lot of different plugins for Jira. Unfortunately, we did not test so many and the big pain point for us is the rigorous handling and the roadmap of Jira. We have a portfolio and structure plugin and we have our story map plugin in Jira. I am a scrum master and coach in my company. My colleagues aren't so educated on these plugins. So first we have to improve all knowledge with these plugins in Jira, to improve or efficiency in the roadmap and for these topics.
What needs improvement?
The performance is not so good sometimes. I know that fully depends on the implementation and the IT environment of Jira or the version of Jira installed. The performance is sometimes not so good. I would like to have a better response time from the Jira server. And it fully depends on the administration side of the Jira.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Jira for more than 10 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It's a very stable system.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
My company has different locations in the world. We have maybe 1000 or 1500 people using this solution.
It is easy to scale and expand.
I am not a Jira administrator. So my feeling as a user of the Jira is that Jira is a very efficient, very good tool and a very stable tool from my perspective.
How are customer service and technical support?
We haven't contacted tech support because the specialized team does it every time.
Everything is delegated to the team inside the company
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We also used Mantis. I can't compare the two because Mantis was very different and that tool is very old. The function was very different in Jira. So when we switched from Mantis to Jira, it was a very big step.
What about the implementation team?
We have a specialized team that did the installation and does upgrades.
What other advice do I have?
I prefer some different practices, like story mapping and inbox mapping or strategy planning. The story mapping is included in all Jira installation. It would be good to see some features for strategy and portfolio handling planning in Jira. I have used Aha! and this tool has a very good framework with a good toolset. The toolset for strategy planning, toolset for portfolio handling, toolset for product handling, and toolset for daily work handling is very good. I think the Aha! team did very good work. I know that this company is an American company and is a competitor for Jira and for some other tools. Unfortunately, I never heard about this tool before and don't know any other company using this tool, but the tool is very impressive. There are a lot of good features. It would be good to see something like that in Jira.
I would rate Jira a seven out of ten. I would give it a higher number if the features that I mentioned for the strategy planning would be included in the framework.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.

IT Testing Manager at a tech services company with 201-500 employees
Quick and easy to customize
Pros and Cons
- "The feature that I have found most valuable is its ease of use. I don't need to train anyone to use it, I just give them access and they can use it to add comments, move their issues, change the status, monitor, read, and so on."
- "There is a difference between their cloud and their server versions. The next-gen project, which is an advanced feature that allows you to visualize the road map of your delivery over multiple products and over time, is not available yet for the sever version. It appears there in the list, but it's still not right. I've tried to use it many times and I am watching the device show their tracker, but it seems they intentionally want this to increase the utilization of the cloud instead of the server. It is really a nice feature and it's a shame that we don't have it."
What is our primary use case?
We use Jira for multiple uses; project management, task management, and we are starting to use it for release management.
What is most valuable?
The feature that I have found most valuable is its ease of use. I don't need to train anyone to use it, I just give them access and they can use it to add comments, move their issues, change the status, monitor, read, and so on. For these results, it is very helpful. I also like the customization that we had for the workflows for the different issues, it's quick and easy to customize. The reporting is also easy and the dashboards that they provide are really helpful and simple. It does not need a lot of experience with reporting and presentation to get to what you need. Also, most of the advanced reports that you need to create can be exported as Excel files.
What needs improvement?
I have been watching an issue develop. There is a difference between their cloud and their server versions. It is really a nice feature and it's a shame that we don't have it.
Additionally, it would be really nice if they added some custom reports so that you could build your own report through any open source or commercial plug-in like Crystal Reports. That would be much easier for them to accelerate. You can create a report template and use it frequently.
There are a few features I would like to see in the next release. For example, the layouts could be easier to configure on the screens. I know it's easy to customize. For each issue type you can create and modify your screen. But it would be easier if you could enlarge, copy, clone, and visualize them in a model in a visual way. It's really hard for me as an admin to compare different screens or even to copy one screen with one additional field. I believe that is creating a lot of confusion for end-users because usually admins are looking at each field independently, where it's located, in which position, and which screen. So that all needs to be improved from an administration point of view to make it easier to visualize and compare between the screens.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Jira for almost a year now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
In terms of stability, it is fine.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy and straightforward. The deployment is very easy. It just took one server.
It took one day to set up the database and then start the configuration. That is straightforward. And I believe they have a newer deployment model that they can deploy on Docker and other container platforms.
What about the implementation team?
I did it myself with some help from other team members.
What other advice do I have?
Jira is an amazing tool, but to get the process streamlined is a challenge. So don't start from Jira. Start with your process first. Agree on the workflow, identify all the stakeholders, and then from there you can go ahead with Jira and implement anything.
On a scale of one to ten, I give Jira a 10.
Everything already provided is perfect. We are using Jira perfectly for one year now and it's absolutely great.

Agile CSM - Sr. Scrum Master at a energy/utilities company with 1,001-5,000 employees
A stable work management solution that is easy to understand and work with
Pros and Cons
- "It's easy to understand, and easy to navigate."
- "it would be helpful to have a better tutorial for learning and to have a better understanding of what the features are and what they do."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case of this solution is to manage work, to distribute work to the teams, and we use confluence as a SharePoint for documents and to use AgileCraft.
What is most valuable?
This solution is easy to work with. It's easy to understand, and easy to navigate.
What needs improvement?
it would be helpful to have a better tutorial for learning and to have a better understanding of what the features are and what they do.
In the next release, I would like to see better integration with other software. Many companies have a lot of peripheral systems. They have ServiceNow or they could have something else. How do they integrate your stories, your sprints, or if you have confluence, or SharePoint when you start using Jira?
The challenge is when you have someone who is not using confluence, but they have SharePoint or ServiceNow.
How do we connect, or integrate our stories with Jira, so we don't have to have the information in three different places?
The integration and integration threads would help Jira going forward.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Jira for more than one year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This solution is stable. I haven't experienced any issues, it works fine.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have approximately 100 users. It is not used concurrently. There could be anywhere from 20 to 30 users in a day.
We have yet to explore the scalability, but we hope that it is easily scalable. For us, that was the purpose of using this solution in our organization. We plan to use SAFe, a scalable scaler, scale agile.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have not contacted technical support,
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup was done by two local employees.
This an area that I would like to explore more from an admin perspective, on how to set up teams, what are all of the things we can do, and to set up the right way so that we can get the most potential out of the software.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I am not involved in the pricing. We have a sales team to procure our licenses.
I don't feel that price is an issue.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have heard of many other solutions, such as Rally, but I have not explored it or compared it with Jira.
What other advice do I have?
It's difficult for me to tell you everything that Jira has to offer when I am still learning. I am trying to educate myself to have a better understanding. I want to learn more.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
Projects & Partnerships at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Streamlined project management through customization and integration capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "I appreciate the openness of Jira; it is based on a concept that is well understandable and works in a logical way, allowing customization of any process that needs to be applied."
What is our primary use case?
I am generally managing development teams in a position of delivery lead. I have also been involved in several positions where I acted as a Jira administrator, setting up delivery processes and production support.
What is most valuable?
I appreciate the openness of Jira. It is based on a concept that is well understandable and works in a logical way, allowing customization of any process that needs to be applied. Jira dashboards and support for JQL queries allow navigation through any data that customers have put in. It has open standards for integrating Jira into other tools.
What needs improvement?
The only issue I see is the licensing model of Atlassian for Jira. Many customers face issues with this model, often resulting in solving the issues in a nonstandard way, which may double the cost of the product. This can block many customers from utilizing Jira Service Desk, as it doubles the cost compared to the regular software management Jira.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with Jira for twelve years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is not a problem at all. The solution is very stable.
How are customer service and support?
Jira has a good community around the software. They have a good forum where you can find most of the issues that others have already experienced. However, there are specific cases where you need to contact Atlassian support directly, and the responses are not that great.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price is average, and it's definitely worth being paid because it is an industry standard in software delivery these days. However, there are specific use cases where the price isn't acceptable for clients.
What other advice do I have?
I rate the overall solution ten. I am hesitant to use anything else for project management. There is some AI integration available on the cloud instance of Jira, which helps compiling JQL queries, particularly useful for business people who do not know the syntax.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
Agile Software Architect at a computer software company with 11-50 employees
Stable with good documentation and needs very little maintenance
Pros and Cons
- "It's a very complete product overall."
- "It would be ideal if Jira had future functionalities to integrate more easily with various aspects of code reviews."
What is our primary use case?
I am the software developer manager and I use Jira to manage team performance. We're also starting to use Jira for our drives. I used Jira before, for creating user stories from boards, to discuss issues, and many other tasks. Today we use Jira, Confluence, and BitBucket in our work. We practice scrum in our organization.
How has it helped my organization?
It improved with many exiting features to manage user stories, planning and retrospective meetings very productive.
What is most valuable?
The documentation is very good.
The solution is stable.
You can scale the solution easily.
It's comparable to Azure DevOps.
It's a very complete product overall.
What needs improvement?
It would be ideal if Jira had future functionalities to integrate more easily with various aspects of code reviews.
It would be nice if, in the future, Jira worked a bit more like Azure DevOps in order to be able to manage work in progress and have the task measurements in strategies for the stories.
In the future, I would like to have traceability features. For example, when you create a task or a sub-task that's related to code. In this task, if we could create a method for retrieve customer information, that would be helpful. In that case, I would want to train with the source code later.
For how long have I used the solution?
I'm new to the company. Although I've worked with Jira before, I've only been at this company for one week.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Atlassian solutions for me are very good solutions. They are very interesting and very productive. As a user, it is necessary to have a unique portal to make traceability between sub-tasks related to code or programming. You can create and screen or implement a function or a class, related for example to the code that you are pushing in the repository or commit in the repository. If I open the sub-task, I will see the code related to the sub-task. It's very similar like Azure DevOps. Azure DevOps, however, has this functionality for traceability. This functionality will be amazing that Jira would implement something similar.
I prefer to use Azure DevOps instead of Jira for stability or the frequency of use. In my case, for example, I feel that more users, more companies don't think Azure DevOps makes a good choice due to the fact that the cost is higher than Jira.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability is very good if you're carrying a lot of projects here, and if the company needs to have a lot of people to PEA development centers in Mexico. Our technicians can easily test the tool and scale it in order to develop projects.
We do plan to increase usage. We're already training more users. We're increasing quickly so that our teams will be ready for upcoming projects.
How are customer service and support?
We have manuals, technical support, and also technical specialists in the company. I haven't had the opportunity to use directly call the technical support from Atlassian, however, the technical documentation that I have reviewed is excellent. We're satisfied with the level of service we have access to.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We also use Azure DevOps. They are both very similar. The main difference is Azure offers traceability.
How was the initial setup?
The solution is easy to implement. We have the cloud version of Jira in the company, and we don't worry about maintenance, it's automatic.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The cost of Jira is okay. It's better than Azure DevOps. We don't have any licensing fees that I know of.
What other advice do I have?
While I'm new to the company, it's my understanding that it is a partner of Atlassian.
We use the latest version of the solution, as we use the cloud, which updates automatically.
Our company has both Azure DevOps and Jira. I use Jira, and Azure DevOps is used for other purposes. Most projects, all projects that are using Azure DevOps are legacy projects. The new projects and new solutions are using Jira.
On a scale from one to ten, I'd rate Jira at a ten. It's a very good product.
Both tools, Azure DevOps and Jira are at the same level. In terms of preference, I typically choose Azure DevOps for familiarity but not for features. For features, both are the same. For example, Jira has amazing features that Azure DevOps doesn't have, and also Azure DevOps has the flexibility that I like very much. Both tools have different interesting aspects. However, if Atlassian would implement traceability, I would prefer to use Atlassian. For me, it's more complete and allows for smaller teams than Azure DevOps.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
Sr. Devops Architect Manager at a computer software company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Stable and scalable but needs to integrate with other DevOps tools
Pros and Cons
- "We have around 2000 plus users, so scale wise, there are no issues. We can easily scale up with multiple users."
- "Jira is a project management tracking tool, and it would be great to see integration with the source front or Azure DevOps, etc."
What needs improvement?
Jira is a project management tracking tool, and it would be great to see integration with the source front or Azure DevOps, etc. The history of tasks, such as check-in and checkout, is not maintained under the particular Jira ticket. For example, in Azure DevOps management for a work item you can find out any chain set and dependency.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using Jira for more than two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have around 2000 plus users, so scale wise, there are no issues. We can easily scale up with multiple users.
What other advice do I have?
I'm coming from an Azure DevOps background, and we use the integration board. It is very easy because the source code is there under one umbrella; however, Jira is not under the Azure DevOps umbrella. If your company is using Azure DevOps or Git as a repository, I recommend using the Azure DevOps board rather than Jira.
I would rate Jira at seven on a scale from one to ten.
Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
President/CEO at a tech services company with 51-200 employees
Beneficial project management, useful dashboards, and reliable
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features of Jira are the dashboards and user interface. The processes within Jira to monitor, maintain and release are beneficial. It is a continuous development solution."
What is our primary use case?
We use Jira to manage what is happening in our projects, such as application development lifecycles.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features of Jira are the dashboards and user interface. The processes within Jira to monitor, maintain and release are beneficial. It is a continuous development solution.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used Jira within the past 12 months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Jira is a reliable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have found Jira to be scalable.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price of Jira could be lower.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Jira an eight out of ten.
