An issue tracking solution with a nice GUI
Pros and Cons
  • "In general, the GUI is nice."
  • "I would recommend Jira for Sprint management."
  • "The part when it comes to the testing area is a bit hard to handle. The screen is too small, you can't really read what you're typing in, and it's only for the testing area. It looks like they have pressed in more than the UI system could handle to display it properly."

What is our primary use case?

I'm working on creating test cases and one test. I also have an overview of the Sprint.

What is most valuable?

In general, the GUI is nice.

What needs improvement?

The part when it comes to the testing area is a bit hard to handle. The screen is too small, you can't really read what you're typing in, and it's only for the testing area. It looks like they have pressed in more than the UI system could handle to display it properly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Jira for about eight months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Jira seems like a stable product, but sometimes I'm losing data.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As a totally different team does the entire setup, I don't know if it's scalable. But we have about 150 users.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

To be quite honest, at the end of the day, a tool is just a tool. For me personally, it's hard to say this tool is much better than the other. From just what I know so far, Micro Focus Octane looks a bit more modern. But I don't know which Jira version we're using at the moment. Octane looks a bit more integrated, it looks a bit newer, but would I buy a tool because of that? Certainly not.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Jira for Sprint management. But when it comes to documentation of manual tests, I would say, "Okay, you can buy it if you want to have one package, but you can also have a look at something different."

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Jira a solid eight.

Very flexible, pretty user-friendly, stable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "I liked the flexibility of the application. It was pretty user-friendly."
  • "If you're not a technical person, it might not be very user-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

Most of our company is using Jira for IT projects. We had an internal project with which I was involved, and I touched on it a little bit. We have its latest version.

What is most valuable?

I liked the flexibility of the application. It was pretty user-friendly.

What needs improvement?

If you're not a technical person, it might not be very user-friendly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for the past 12 months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It was stable. I don't recall any bugs or glitches.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

My impression is that it was pretty scalable. We have 10 to 12 people who use it. They are IT managers, directors, and developers.

How are customer service and technical support?

I did not have to use tech support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used to use Microsoft Project in a different organization. In my current organization, I have been working for two years, and Jira is the only tool that they have used as far as I know. They are two different animals.

How was the initial setup?

I wasn't involved in its setup.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Jira an eight out of ten because of its flexibility. I like the controls on it.

Feature-rich, complete, stable, and easy to administer
Pros and Cons
  • "It is a complete solution, it has more features as compared to other tools, especially the open-source one that we use, and it is also easy to administer."
  • "Based on the feedback from my admin, it is sometimes difficult to find some of the features. It is not a big deal, but its configuration interface can be improved to make it easy to find things."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution because it comes with some of the products that we are using. It is a part of the package. Our usage is quite basic, and we have not finished exploring and deploying the whole solution.

What is most valuable?

It is a complete solution. It has more features as compared to other tools, especially the open-source one that we use. It is also easy to administer.

What needs improvement?

Based on the feedback from my admin, it is sometimes difficult to find some of the features. It is not a big deal, but its configuration interface can be improved to make it easy to find things.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have not deployed it on a very large scale. For now, we have ten users, and it is mostly used for our internal things, but from next week, we're opening it for the community. We'll have a broader experience of the product.

How are customer service and technical support?

We haven't used their technical support so far.

How was the initial setup?

I have not heard of any complaints about the installation. It takes almost half a day to install. It took some time to configure it for different tools that we use, but the installation was straightforward. There is enough documentation for its installation.

What about the implementation team?

We did it on our own. I only have one admin guy for its deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are a regional research and education institute. We're using the free license provided for educational institutes.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution. I would rate Jira an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Straightforward, easy to use, and scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "It is very straightforward and easy to use."
  • "It should be less expensive."

What is our primary use case?

We are using it for project management. We have cloud and on-premises deployments of this solution, and we are currently using its latest version.

What is most valuable?

It is very straightforward and easy to use.

What needs improvement?

It should be less expensive.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for about five years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We have about 500 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

I don't have any experience with their technical support.

How was the initial setup?

It is easy to install. It takes one to two days.

What about the implementation team?

Our team handles its deployment and maintenance. We have a team of three people to manage it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its price is fine, but we would like it to be less expensive. We are paying on a yearly basis.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We didn't evaluate other products.

What other advice do I have?

I would 100% recommend this solution to others. We plan to keep using it.

I would rate Jira a nine out of ten.

A very capable product with many useful features, impressive scalability, and good stability
Pros and Cons
  • "Jira is a pretty capable product, and a lot of features are valuable. We value being able to set up separate projects and configure teams in them, set up sprints, and manage our sprints with its history tracking. These are all very useful features. It has been a very popular product for our work."
  • "Overall, it is a good product."
  • "Because I am a developer, I would like integration with Git Source Code Management so that for tickets, we can reference the code where the change has happened and where the issue is. This feature might be there, and I probably haven't discovered it."

What is our primary use case?

We are mainly using it for project management and issue tracking. It is used by development, QA, and IT operations. It really goes through the whole gamut of project management.

We are not using its latest version. We are usually a little bit behind on versions.

What is most valuable?

Jira is a pretty capable product, and a lot of features are valuable. We value being able to set up separate projects and configure teams in them, set up sprints, and manage our sprints with its history tracking. These are all very useful features. It has been a very popular product for our work.

What needs improvement?

Because I am a developer, I would like integration with Git Source Code Management so that for tickets, we can reference the code where the change has happened and where the issue is. This feature might be there, and I probably haven't discovered it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for probably six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Its stability has been very good. Every once in a while, we have a problem, and the service stops working. I don't think we have a very robust installation of it, but if there is an issue, it is back online very quickly.

Most of the issues are probably related to the server needing patching or something else. It may not be running on the appropriate size hardware. I know it is not a well-funded product at our office.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is impressive. We have all our projects on it, and we haven't really had reports of any issues. We haven't yet stretched it to its limitations, but it has managed to meet our requirements, even in this minimal deployment. I am pretty impressed.

How are customer service and technical support?

I didn't directly contact them, but I am sure at some point we have. We usually have a contact person, and we pay for the full support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We are adopting multiple products, such as ServiceNow, but they do different things and are for different purposes. There is a talk about replacing Jira with ServiceNow, and we're not too happy with it because we all liked Jira, but sometimes this kind of stuff happens. ServiceNow does have crossover features, but it gets into problems for us when changing from one system to another.

How was the initial setup?

I didn't set it up, but I haven't heard of any issues with the implementation of it. It seems to be very straightforward.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this product. Overall, it is a good product. It supports scrum and agile developments. It has a lot of benefits that can be applied very quickly in organizations.

I would advise others to do a test installation and make sure that it fits their needs. Experiment with the multitudes of features that it has. I know there are lots of modules. There are probably many features that we are not using.

I would give it very high marks. I would rate Jira a nine out of ten. There is always something you could improve on it.

Stable and flexible with the capability to scale if needed
Pros and Cons
  • "The level of stability is quite good."
  • "The solution has basically been problem-free so far, and overall we have found the product to be quite flexible, with a very good level of stability and the ability to scale if needed."
  • "I'd like the solution to be more secure."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for collaboration purposes.

What is most valuable?

The solution has basically been problem-free so far.

Overall, we've found the product to be quite flexible.

The level of stability is quite good.

The product can scale if you need it to.

What needs improvement?

I'd like the solution to be more secure.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for about six months at this point. It hasn't been that long. I've been using it for less than a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We've enjoyed the stability of the solution. It's good. It doesn't crash or freeze. There are no bugs or glitches. The performance is reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution can scale quite well. If a company needs to expand it out, it can do so with relative ease. It's not a pronblem.

Not too many people use the solution in my organization. There are fewer than ten users right now.

We do not have any plans to continue to use the solution, let alone increasing usage.

How are customer service and technical support?

I've never directly dealt with technical support. There was never a need to call. Therefore, I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they are. There was never an opportunity to interact.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not previously use another solution before implementing Jira.

How was the initial setup?

I didn't handle any aspect of the installation, and therefore I can't speak to how easy or difficult the implementation was. I'm not sure how long the deployment itself took. I was just handed my login and I was good to go.

What about the implementation team?

As I wasn't involved in the installation process, I can't speak to if a consultant or integrator was used. I have no knowledge of that being the case.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I can't speak to how much a license costs or the process behind setting one up and renewing it. I just use the solution. I don't handle sales or billing.

What other advice do I have?

I'm just a customer and an end-user. I don't have a business relationship with Jira.

It's my understanding that we are using the latest version of the solution, however, I am not 100% positive that is the case. I don't know the version number off-hand. I am also not sure which deployment model we are using and if it is deployed on cloud or on-premises.

I'd recommend the solution to other organizations.

I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten overall.

Effective management tracking, simple install, and many plugins available
Pros and Cons
  • "I have found the tracking, project and task management most valuable in this solution."
  • "This solution has been established in the market and is commonly used in many project management sectors because it can be easily used once you have experience."
  • "They could improve the solution by having a multiple project dashboard to be able to manage many projects KPI's at once, this would really be helpful."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to track all projects and management activity.

How has it helped my organization?

There are a lot of plugin integrations available right now that are continuously being updated. We have recently worked on ways we can integrate with the DevOps.

What is most valuable?

I have found the tracking, project and task management most valuable in this solution.

What needs improvement?

They could improve the solution by having a multiple project dashboard to be able to manage many projects KPI's at once, this would really be helpful.

In the next release, I would like to see task creation management simplified and overall usage streamlined for new users.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Jira for four years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We are extensively using this solution for all of our projects across the entire enterprise. It has shown that it is able to be scaled effectively.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have never had any problems with this solution to need to use the technical support.

How was the initial setup?

The installation was not complex, I did not find any difficulites.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others wanting to purchase the solution that they can improve their business UX. This solution has been established in the market and is commonly used in many project management sectors because it can be easily used once you have experience. If you are new to this solution it could be confusing to some people because there is not a proper project flow. For example, Once you create a ticket or any task, you are not able to see what you just created in the notification area. Currently, you receive a pop-up and it will go off after some time, if you do not click the pop-up when it comes up you will have to refresh, go back to the project, and then find out the task from there. This could be simplified in the future.

They provide a product that is very good but in terms of a presentation, they have room to improve.

I rate Jira a nine out of ten.

Provides flexibility to create different flows, responds to our needs in terms of scalability, and has good stability
Pros and Cons
  • "The flexibility to create different flows is most valuable."
  • "It is scalable because it is a SaaS solution; it is the best choice for us because it responds to our needs all the time."
  • "It can have a more high-level view of portfolios. It has quite detailed views, but I would like a high-level view of portfolios. We want to integrate Jira with Microsoft Active Directory, and I don't know how easy or hard it is going to be. I don't know if Jira supports this. We are starting that integration in the last quarter of this year. I hope to find all the required tools for this integration."
  • "It can have a more high-level view of portfolios."

What is our primary use case?

We are basically using it to register all the requirements and issues so that we can track them and control the flow and different states. We also use it for reporting and configuring dashboards for portfolio management.

It is a SaaS solution, and we are using its latest version.

What is most valuable?

The flexibility to create different flows is most valuable.

What needs improvement?

It can have a more high-level view of portfolios. It has quite detailed views, but I would like a high-level view of portfolios.

We want to integrate Jira with Microsoft Active Directory, and I don't know how easy or hard it is going to be. I don't know if Jira supports this. We are starting that integration in the last quarter of this year. I hope to find all the required tools for this integration.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Its stability is very good. I have no complaints.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable because it is a SaaS solution. It is the best choice for us because it responds to our needs all the time.

We have around 100 people in our organization who use this solution. They are developers, QAs, and managers.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their support was very good for some of our questions. We didn't have too many issues.

We also have a partner who helps us with all the contracts, payments, and other things. If there is an issue, we contact them, and they provide support.

How was the initial setup?

It was easy because the person who helped with portfolio management had previous experience with Jira. So, it was easy for us. It took about three weeks.

What other advice do I have?

The most important thing is to precisely decide your flows and different stages and cycles. If all these are very clear, you won't have a problem setting up Jira.

I would rate Jira a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Stable ecosystem with a plethora of use cases
Pros and Cons
  • "What I find valuable about Jira is that it's an ecosystem. Sometimes, it does not provide the best in class solutions, but it's so well integrated. You will not have many problems with integration."
  • "What I find valuable about Jira is that it's an ecosystem."
  • "What could be improved is the migration between the testing and production environments. This could be automated somehow as the manual transfer of certain workflows and functionalities is very time consuming right now."

What is our primary use case?

There are so many use cases for Jira. If it's got something to do with IT, it will be covered by Jira. They have a very extensive marketplace and you can find nearly every solution there, including version controlling, source control for the code, automation, test automation, security scanning, configuration, and development management.

What is most valuable?

What I find valuable about Jira is that it's an ecosystem. Sometimes, it does not provide the best-in-class solutions, but it's so well integrated. You will not have many problems with integration.

What needs improvement?

The transfer of the functionality between testing or pre-production and the production environment could be improved. It would be helpful to have more automation in this area.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this product for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In general, the core of the product is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Approximately 150 users use this product at our company. One comment I would have regarding scalability is that I noticed Jira is not yet ready for the Docker platform. I think they are working on this and it will improve the scalability of the product.

How are customer service and technical support?

Overall, their support is okay. Many topics are covered in their documentation or on Atlassian. We receive support from a local partner.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used SISA.

How was the initial setup?

The initial installation was straightforward for us. What could be improved is the migration between the testing and production environments. This could be automated somehow as the manual transfer of certain workflows and functionalities is very time consuming right now.

Stable solution with a variety of use cases
Pros and Cons
  • "We have the best community to support any problems that we have."
  • "The pricing is quite high."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use cases for this product are project management, customer relationship management, internal management, and collaboration.

What is most valuable?

It's an open API. We also have the best community to support any problems that we have.

What needs improvement?

Cost could be improved. The pricing is quite high. I could also see there being a need for improvements in software product management, project planning, and DevOps.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Jira for six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The product is used on a daily basis by 2,000 people. However, it is not easy to scale.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support could be made more efficient and localized.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was somewhere in the middle. Not very simple; not very complex.

What about the implementation team?

We worked with consultants and deployment took us two months. All maintenance has been handled by vendors from outside of the organization.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
