What is our primary use case?

I'm the system admin, and I'm taking care of backups and every job in Veeam Backup. We have the AIX machines and we are deploying the AIX machine; we are doing the backup and trying to restrain the AIX on them.

What is most valuable?

It's very customer-friendly and user-friendly and we use it mostly to backup an issue. 

We have done a multiple-time restore on Veeam Backup and that is an awesome feature. It's a very critical system, we have to restore it and Veeam makes it easy to do so to protect our system.

Initially setting up the product is easy.

The solution has been quite stable. 

Technical support is good.

It supports the technology and it's actually more secure and has enhanced itself. Veeam is always making itself better in terms of functionality and features.

What needs improvement?

Part of the issue we've had is with the AIX backup. Currently, Veeam has issued version 2.0 for the AIX machine, however, it is not capable of taking the entire machine backup and restoring at the one side. It is only taking the backup of the partitions only. There is a limitation there right now. I'd suggest they improve the functionality in the Veeam Backup agent so that it will take an entire machine backup. That would be more beneficial for the official system for the AIX's.

The stability for AIX machines could be better.

Veeam Backup also needs to be possible in Azure, so that if something goes down Veeam can take care of everything. Our local vendor in India for the Azure environment has found out there is no availability for Azure for Veeam Backup and Replication. If there is an existing Veeam option that supports the Azure environment, they need to relay the message. It's not clear now and it appears there isn't one.

We'd love to see the solution offer more compression in the future to allow us to save more space. 

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's stable for the ESXi and other Linux and workstations they've established. In the case of the AIX machine that we are using, the stability needs to be improved.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is totally scalable. That said, one thing I didn't get from local resources is that Veeam Backup cannot perform in the Azure environment. 

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is good. It's awesome. Still, we can't get the right solution at the right time. If I'm asking about what ports need to be open for the Veeam Backup and Replication and they are just suggesting the link and just showing the port, it's not quite as helpful as we would hope. For example, what can do we to improve from this side? There needs to be more specificity in terms of the level of technical support we get when we have specific concerns. We would be grateful for this.

How was the initial setup?

The setup process was really easy. I've done it so many times, actually and I am quite comfortable with the steps now. However, in the case of AIX, most users don't know about the AIX deployment. They are not seeing exactly what needs to be done. That part needs to be taken care of by Veeam directly.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I can't speak to the exact pricing, however, in our region, in South Asia, pricing is always a concern.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We tried Commvault also, however, it's not user-friendly and it's not as easy compared to Veeam. They have their own benefit, however, they simply are not user-friendly enough for us. Veeam is easier, and it's reassuring. We've saved money with Veeam as we've had to restore a few times now and we've saved so much data using it. That's why it's good. It's proven itself again and again.

What other advice do I have?

We are customers and end-users of Veeam.

I'd rate the solution at a ten out of ten.

We have used this solution to back up our on-premise environment. Currently, we are backing up our VMs VMware.

How has it helped my organization?

Veeam Cloud Connect has helped us to reduce the cost of cloud storage for an offsite solution using their archive storage feature. 

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature this solution offers us is new and allows us to store data in the cloud and works with Azure and AWS Cloud. This is useful for managing the retention of large volumes of data. 

The continuous backup functionality is useful for us to keep all our data up to date. 

What needs improvement?

It would be useful if we could integrate our on-premise VM solution with the Azure workload backup from the existing console. This would assist our customers in reducing the cost of hardware. 

It would be good to have the option to store the data directly to Azure, AWS Cloud or any other cloud solutions. 

We would like to have cloud storage set up as a storage solution instead of local storage and have an integrated console for AWS, GCP and Amazon Azure workloads.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for the last five to six years. 

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable solution for a medium-sized environment. We haven't tried it for a large-scale environment but the solution may not perform as well at a larger scale.

How are customer service and support?

The support offered is very good, however, hey recently introduced a ticketing system that requires us to raise a ticket from their portal site and wait for a response. Calling them directly is not possible. 

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used to use Commvault as our backup solution. We switched because we wanted to avoid having an offsite team and hardware. 

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and very simple. It took three to four hours to set up the environment. 

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We have like pooled license and act as a seller. We pay approximately $800 per month. There are no additional costs from Veeam directly but the solution does require cloud storage that needs to be paid for. 

What other advice do I have?

It's an excellent product that is simple and easy to setup. If you have a medium-sized environment and infrastructure, this is a good solution. There is an option of a 30-day trial to test all the features the solution offers.

We like it due to the fact that we can get error messages to alert us to issues. We can get a forecast for our storage and so on. It's really good.

The initial setup is easy. 

The solution is stable. 

The product is very scalable.

Technical support is helpful and knowledgeable. They respond very fast.

What needs improvement?

You have several monitors you have to tune. You have several snapshots on the volume and so on, and this is the standard. However, for example, if you have Rezon from VMware, you have much more snapshots on the volume, and yet it's not a problem as Rezon doesn't have these issues with the huge number of snapshots. They should offer more snapshots on Veeam.

The pricing could be reduced. 

When you have to renew the licenses you sometimes have some trouble getting rid of the old one and reassigning it to the new one. That's an aspect that could run smoother and could be better.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for the last eight years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution scales very well.

You just put in another license key and you can add some hosts. It's that easy.

We have five people that directly use the solution within our company.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support from Veeam is great. You don't want to have an issue, however, if you do, they can help you really fast, and they know what to do and they ask the right questions to get deep into the problem if you have something complex or difficult. They'll help you install a patch so that everything is fine. It's great.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price always could be lower, however, compared to others, it's pretty much in line with other options on the market.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I haven't really looked into other solutions. I've compared the open-managed integration for vCenter, and that's a really cheap one - however, it's hard to install and you often have issues. I would say it's a small giveaway from Dell as an add-on to the hardware.

What other advice do I have?

We're a customer and an end-user of the solution. 

We have the Veeam plugin from Dell and Veeam ONE. Veeam ONE is in the availability suite we have ordered and we changed our hardware from Dell and for the last five years, we have the open-managed integration.

We're currently on version 11 and we updated the solution in February.

For those considering the solution, I would advise that they deactivate the alarm at first and then run it in a warning mode so that you can learn within the environment. Veeam has some limits, and these limits are often only baselines. You may have other limits as you have faster hosts or you have other storage, et cetera. If you run in warning mode, you can learn and put in the correct baselines. You can tune it and then you won't get so many alerts. Once you have tuned your environment against the Veeam baseline it's really comfortable to work with. 

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

We are a system-integrator company and have a platinum sales-partnership with Veeam Software in Turkey. And also we are giving professional services to our customers on behalf of Veeam within the framework of the global VASP program. We take advantage of this experience to integrate many different environments as an output.

Regarding to this exprerince I can say these ;  Some of our customers use Veeam Cloud Connect platforms for off-site backups and VM replicas, in order to copy and handle disaster recovery scenarios. Some of them are just using the backup infrastructure in their on-premise platforms. And some customers have multiple sites by their own.  They are doing disaster scenarios on their own sites and they are not using any other cloud infrastructure. If you have a Veeam product, there are many scenarios you can consider.

What is most valuable?

It's good for backup performance management and backup window management. 

There are a lot of features to choose from. 

Veeam provided different advantages in many categories in cloud, virtual and physical workloads. With the CDP and Linux Hardened Repository components that came in the latest version, it started to provide serious innovations in terms of business continuity and backup data accessibility.

Veeam customers have the confidence knowing their data is always available, on any app, any data in  any cloud.

It' has user-friendly GUI and customers can easily manage this software on their own. 

The initial setup is easy. The stability is good. The solution can scale. Technical support is helpful.

What needs improvement?

Our customers seem to be quite happy with the solution. I cannot recall coming across any features that were lacking.

We were waiting for two years for the continuous data protection features and it was released with this last version in February. And in v11 there are so much improvements made. They all are useful. There is no other feature request from our side. While continuing to use v11, additional requests may of course occur.

For how long have I used the solution?

It's been a while. I've been using the solution for about eight years.I have a good amount of experience with the product.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There is a sure backup feature to check backup data is stable and accessable or not . SureBackup is the Veeam technology that lets you test VM backups and check if you can recover data from them. You can verify any restore point of a backed-up VM. During a SureBackup job, Veeam Backup & Replication performs “live” verification: scans the backed-up data for malware, boots the VM from the backup in the isolated environment, runs tests for the VM, powers the VM off and creates a report on recovery verification results.


What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution offers very good scalability, both on-premises and on the cloud. Small, medium or large enterprises can easily use the solution and scale it to meet their needs.

There's a proxy usage mentality regarding Veeam resources and regarding an increased ratio. You can add an additional proxy to Veeam platforms and you can follow a parallel tasking process. There is no off time or maintenance schedule needed to scale out this environment.

How are customer service and technical support?

We've been in touch with technical support. We find them to be helpful and responsive. They are also kind. We do not have a case that's not resolved in the support section. We are satisfied with their level of service.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward. It's very easy to implement. A company wouldn't have any trouble with it.

For large environments, there must be architectured guidelines that must be followed before implementation. For our corporate accounts, that have three physical hosts and are running a VMware cluster with three hosts for a fixed CPU socket environment. It's a basic environment, and there is no additional architectural design needed before the implementation. In that case, the installation steps took two hours, maybe with operating system installations. After two hours the customer could try to get back the servers in his environment. It's good for backup scenarios and also for failover scenarios, like management access issues for Veeam Software. It's also more useful to restore the coniguration database and restore from a backup catalog. If they are all simple processes for customers, they can manage these scenarios very easily.

As product implementation becomes more sophisticated, Veeam recognizes the growing need to identify entrusted and authorized partners who possess the highest expertise level and are able to deliver high-quality services to ensure that our users are completely satisfied. We are the first and only certified professional services partner In Turkey.  Maintenance services is important in enterprise large accounts.

It changes for every customer.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing varies considerably. It changes project by project. Some of our customers can get special prices from vendors. Some of them can't. 

There are some environments that change in terms of product support, however, for pricing, there are two models in Veeam. One of them is CPU socket licensing and one of them is Universal (instance-based) licensing. It just depends on the customer environment. 

What other advice do I have?

We strongly recommend this software, due to the IT operations efficiency and data reliability. I'd rate the solution at a ten out of ten. Veeam is the best.

We use it to guarantee the uptime of our services and servers. We are using its latest version.

It is fairly easy to set up the solution. The deployment took just a few hours. Generally, two business days would be enough.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise planning your deployments ahead of time and predicting space refinements so that you can set up everything correctly. If you need to change it later, it is a little more complicated.

What is our primary use case?

We use and promote Veeam for protecting server farms. We also work with system integrators, providing them with this solution and helping them to size deals.

How has it helped my organization?

Provided much more, best to say, time, and less worry about backup. It automated backup to the point of almost no involvement needed and our backups can be checked, tested and verified at any time in accordance with our policies.

What is most valuable?

Veeam is much more flexible than other products, such as Commvault.

The interface is well-arranged and it is simple to use.

This solution is very easy for us and our partners to deploy.

The most valuable feature is the ability to verify that backups are valid.

What needs improvement?

We would like to see support for some additional storage systems. They do have a range available but more should be available.

The cost of this solution could be reduced.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I am extremely satisfied with stability. You can make sure that every backup is 100% recoverable, which is a feature that I and my team are very grateful for. It is something that is not available in most solutions, as far as I have seen.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam is easily scalable. I had a couple of cases where I had to scale from small to medium to enterprise-level organizations. There were thousands of nodes and it was easy to do. It took between a couple of hours and a day or two, depending on the size of the deployment.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is good, although there are very few complaints. Issues are normally resolved within 24 to 72 hours.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used similar solutions by vendors such as Commvault.

Veeam is much more flexible and easier to use. With Commvault, you need an additional technician to launch or deploy anything. It requires a lot of time just to set it up. Also, Commvault is more expensive.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is simple and straightforward without the need for more complex preparations.

What about the implementation team?

In-house and vendor team - expertise was on a level and did not require extensive amounts of time. 

What was our ROI?

We estimate our ROI within 1,9 - 2,3 years. 

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Veeam is more reasonably priced than some competing products.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Each solution has its own points that are good but in cost-optimization, Veeam is a good price and it is very easy to deploy for both us and our partners.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for anybody who is implementing this solution is to make sure that the sizing is correct. Having good or perfect sizing is the best thing that somebody can do for their company, and, if possible, to put more funds into analytics reporting so that they can provide intelligent sizing in advance. In fact, the biggest lesson that I have learned from using this solution is that you never want to have the wrong sizing.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with this product.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.
