What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have found Veeam Backup Replication scalable.

We have approximately 300 users using the solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Symantec Backup Exec. As we moved forward from the physical environment to the virtual environment, we changed products to Veeam Backup Replication. We found that Veeam Backup Replication was the most usable, and fit our companies use case scenario best.

How was the initial setup?

The implementation was straightforward. However, we used an integrator, the process could be easier for us to do it ourselves.

What about the implementation team?

We had a system integrator that implemented the whole solution for us.

The solution does not need a lot of maintenance, the upgraders do not interfere with our systems very much.

What was our ROI?

We are satisfied with Veeam Backup Replication. It is a safeguard for our daily work and our environment. It has given us a substantial return on investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are on an annual license for Veeam Backup Replication. We could expand or upgrade the license for the Office365 features. Next year we might go to a three-year plan for support on license.

What other advice do I have?

In the next year, we will move to Office365 and could use the cloud features. We will upgrade our license and check the new features of Veeam Backup Replication.

I rate Veeam Backup Replication a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

What is most valuable?

Veeam Backup Replication is easy to use and has high performance. The backups are very fast. It's a complete solution that fulfills our current needs.

What needs improvement?

The replication functionality only works for VMware environments. Veeam has a backup agent for AIX operating systems, and we will like to see the replication functionality available for the AIX operating system. We have been using it in small environments, and it is stable, straightforward to deploy, and scalable for our needs
Pros and Cons
  • "The backup and replication features are most valuable."
  • "I would like them to move back to host licensing."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for backup and replication in small environments.

How has it helped my organization?

It has not improved anything. It is just a backup solution. Our customers needed something for disaster recovery in case something bad happens. It is something they needed, and it is something they have got.

What is most valuable?

The backup and replication features are most valuable.

What needs improvement?

I would like them to move back to host licensing.

Everything should improve over time as new functionalities come along. The product needs to follow new technologies and integrate them.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for about 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is stable. It is almost fire-and-forget.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We don't have experience with large environments. We only have small environments with a host of virtual machines. It is scalable for our use. There is no problem.

Its users are system administrators. Any increase in its usage would depend on the pricing. Veeam has changed its licensing policy. With their universal licensing, things have become a bit expensive. It is a free market, so we'll see.

How are customer service and support?

It should be good, but we have not used it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We also use other products. This is not the only one. We use Micro Focus Data Protector, Arcserve UDP, and Microsoft Data Protection Manager.

Microsoft Data Protection Manager is more windows-oriented. It is not as good as Veeam for sure, but it is good enough for certain environments.

How was the initial setup?

It was quite straightforward. We are using it in relatively small environments. These are not big installations.

It took a few hours. The deployment is quick, but you have to test everything and make sure everything works.

What about the implementation team?

We are an integrator. For its deployment and maintenance, one system administrator is enough.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We try to use perpetual licensing, and there are no additional costs.

They have recently moved to universal licensing, which is more expensive, and I would like them to go back to host licensing.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise others to decide for themselves if it checks all the boxes.

I would rate it an eight out of 10 because it is now more expensive with universal licensing.

Secure backup that you can trust to run without monitoring
Pros and Cons
  • "I like Veeam a lot because it solves problems, is stable, and runs very well."
  • "The initial setup is not always easy, and customers often need a lot of help to get Veeam up and running successfully."

What is most valuable?

The most important feature for me is the security - you can trust that Veeam is working without having to test or check it.

What needs improvement?

An area for improvement would be the product's high use of resources and memory.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I like Veeam a lot because it solves problems, is stable, and runs very well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not always easy, and customers often need a lot of help to get Veeam up and running successfully.

What other advice do I have?

Our customers use Veeam for its good price, quality, and performance. I would give this product a score of eight out of ten.

Review about Veeam Backup & Replication
Pros and Cons
  • "Veeam's file monitoring capabilities are strong and consistent."
  • "The Veeam portal should be better integrated with all the parts of the new release. But there's always a workaround to replicate the new solution. I'd like to have better integration with other solutions like SAP."

What is our primary use case?

We use Veeam to protect and replicate the data. We need another tool for protecting the information.

What is most valuable?

Veeam's file monitoring capabilities are strong and consistent.

What needs improvement?

The Veeam portal should be better integrated with all the parts of the new release. But there's always a workaround to replicate the new solution. I'd like to have better integration with other solutions like SAP.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been working with Veeam Backup for three years.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam is highly scalable.

How are customer service and support?

Veeam support is integrated across phone, chat, and email, and they have excellent discipline.

How was the initial setup?

Veeam is relatively easy to deploy and you have two options. It only takes one engineer to deploy and maintain.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veeam nine out of 10. Cloud integration is a good option. They have many ways to provide integration. Some on-premise elements are part of the integration with Google. You can add part of the center to the backup to create a hybrid setup. It's not enough to have all the backup with RAMM or ERMA. The portfolio that comes with Veeam is easy, and that's also good to have — to cover all the enterprise and part of the availability suite.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

The best tool for virtualization backup
Pros and Cons
  • "Veeam communicates with the vCenter in VMware, which means it's very smooth and doesn't interrupt production on VMware and you can backup or restore anytime, anywhere."
  • "The deduplication feature could be improved by changing to global deduplication."

What is our primary use case?

My primary use case is as a backup for VMware Hypervisor and SAP HANA.

How has it helped my organization?

Veeam communicates with the vCenter in VMware, which means it's very smooth and doesn't interrupt production on VMware and you can backup or restore anytime, anywhere.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the virtualization backup - Veeam is the best for this.

What needs improvement?

The deduplication feature could be improved by changing to global deduplication. I am also concerned about the master server landing on Microsoft Windows only, which means that if there is a ransom attack on the Veeam server, all the backup features will go down, and the data will be lost.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for over seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This solution is very stable, including its support for Hyper-V and Nutanix.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable - you can backup to several locations without additional cost.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used IBM TSM, but the IT environment in Thailand changed from Linux to Intel, which TSM did not support, so I switched to Veeam.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy, it takes about one to two hours and requires only one person.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The license can be expensive if you have a lot of VMs, as that's what the cost is calculated from, but it's also flexible in terms of what kind of backup you can use.

What other advice do I have?

Veeam is really easy to deploy and easy to use. I would rate this solution nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Straightforward installation, and good disaster management features
Pros and Cons
  • "Veeam Backup & Replication is a scalable solution."
  • "The user interface needs to be improved. It could be simpler to use."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Veeam for regular backups and disaster management.

What is most valuable?

The backup and restore features are the most valuable.

What needs improvement?

The user interface needs to be improved. It could be simpler to use.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Veeam Backup & Replication for approximately four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Veeam Backup & Replication is a scalable solution. We have approximately 300 end-users and we don't plan on increasing this by very much.

How are customer service and support?

I have not been in contact with technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to Veeam, I was using the regular Windows Backup utility.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward and it takes roughly an hour to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

Our in-house team was responsible for the implementation.

We have four people in our IT team. They are all administrators.

What other advice do I have?

In summary, this is a good product and I recommend it for those who are interested in using it.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
