Strong backup integrity, high backup and replication performance, and reliable
Pros and Cons
  • "I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups."
  • "We were concerned about ransomware attacks and with Veeam now we are protected."
  • "think backing up from physical servers and ransomware security needs some improvements."
  • "I think backing up from physical servers and ransomware security needs some improvements."

What is our primary use case?

The solution can be used for backing up data such as virtual machines, data servers, and applications.

How has it helped my organization?

We was concern about ransomware attack and with Veeam now we are protected. Thnaks Veeam

What is most valuable?

I have found one of the most valuable features to be the integrity of the backups. It does a great job at taking backups of physical servers and doing replications. The integration with their storage is done well.

What needs improvement?

I think backing up from physical servers and ransomware security needs some improvements. However, they have improved in the newer release by encrypting the backup server.

In upcoming releases, I do not want the UI to change, this is important for individuals using the solution. If there are many changes then they have to keep learning the UI over and over again making it difficult.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for approximately five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

In my experience, I have found the solution to be stable. You are able to scale out to repositories well. You can add all servers together as a bundle and use them as a scale-out repository.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is great. They have comprehensive FAQ information that can be searched for whatever your needs are.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have used Veritas in the past and it does a better job at backing up servers.

Great Sandbox feature; stable and readily scalable
Pros and Cons
  • "Sandbox feature is like a power tool for troubleshooting."
  • "Technical support is very effective; they respond quickly, faster than Dell."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "I'd like to see the pricing improved, it's currently an expensive solution."

What is our primary use case?

We currently use Veeam Backup & Replication in our own environment. Veeam is very useful  with the share analysis and with what I get from Reporter. It's very smooth to use. Even the restoration is amazing. The replication feature capabilities are very good. It's useful for Windows products; Exchange, Express, and the like. I'm not sure how they could compete with another product, but it's better. Currently, we are just using this solution on our own site, but not yet integrating for customers. We are integrators of Veeam.

What is most valuable?

I really like the Sandbox feature, it's like a power tool for troubleshooting.

What needs improvement?

I'd like to see the pricing improved, it's currently an expensive solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Veeam is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a very scalable solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is very effective. They respond quickly, faster than Dell.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very easy, it took us around 30 minutes and required one person for deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing of this product is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I would definitely recommend this product.

I rate this solution a nine out of 10.

Requires better integration with database components and cloud services; VM backups are good
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution does a good job with VM backups."
  • "I think this solution does VM back ups very well."
  • "The solution is rather weak when it comes to database integration."
  • "I find this product to be rather weak when it comes to database integration and that really is problematic."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case of this solution is for application servers, web servers on Linux, Windows, AIX, databases, Db2, Sybase, Oracle and the like.

What is most valuable?

I think this solution does VM back ups very well.

What needs improvement?

I find this product to be rather weak when it comes to database integration and that really is problematic. It needs to have better integration with the database components as well as the cloud-based services.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for about a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

At the moment, this product is not very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think it is horizontally scalable, but not vertically very scalable. It tends to run into issues with regards to performance if you require vertical scalability.

How are customer service and technical support?

In South Africa, the technical support is average. They should respond more quickly and be more customer friendly. The rep really needs to be more knowledgeable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Veritas.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was quite complex and took us a few months to install. We used a partner and vendor for the installation because we had a lot of problems. As a result, we're not sure if we'll continue with the solution or choose an alternative.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We chose Veeam because the licensing was cheap and we got a special deal from them.

What other advice do I have?

I wouldn't really recommend this solution. In terms of the integration of this solution, we're finding it doesn't do everything it promises. There is a difference between what the sales people tell you and the reality. Because of the issues we've had, I rate this solution four out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

Works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination."
  • "The solution works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination."
  • "If you do not use the standard software and you go with a third-party solution such as this one, it might not work the same. There is an integration issue I understand between the database standards."
  • "If you do not use the standard software and you go with a third-party solution such as this one, it might not work the same."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution mainly for backup and redundancies. We keep historical VM images and replicate them to other data centers that we have.

What is most valuable?

The solution works well in two different environments, whether it is on-premises, cloud, or a combination.

What needs improvement?

If you do not use the standard software and you go with a third-party solution such as this one, it might not work the same. There is an integration issue I understand between the database standards.

Additionally, the solution can be difficult to manage if you do not have the training.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for approximately three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of the solution is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have deployed this solution mostly in medium to large size businesses.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is very straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

When it comes to pricing for a backup solution for data centers, you do not care about the price. We just care about the service and want it to be reliable. In terms of subscription, it really makes sense. When you want to use all the functionalities it is good that Veeam did the subscription-based model, this is what gives it the most strength on the price.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veeam Backup Replication an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

  • "The data duplication should be improved."
  • "The technical support has not been good in my experience. They need to have faster and more reliable support for this solution."

What is our primary use case?

The solution can be used to backup databases. For example, from Windows, Linux, and Oracle. It is sometimes used by government organizations for email backup.

What is most valuable?

The solution is easy to use and have good performance.

What needs improvement?

The data duplication should be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for a long time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have found the solution to be stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support has not been good in my experience. They need to have faster and more reliable support for this solution.

How was the initial setup?

The installation was straightforward for me since I have done it before. It might not be for first time users. The time for the installation all depends on the environment.

What about the implementation team?

We have one technician for the maintenance and deployment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is a license required for this solution and the price is a bit expensive but it depends on the environment that you have on how much it will cost.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Veeam Backup Replication a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
