User-friendly app creation enhances project tracking and inspection
Pros and Cons
  • "Issue tracking and centralized issue management are significantly enhanced with Power Apps, reducing lengthy data consolidation processes across departments."
  • "Power Apps is user-friendly and allows easy application creation without extensive programming experience."
  • "Improvements could include more templates for application development, especially those commonly used across different companies."
  • "Sometimes, refreshing the application takes time, which can be a stability issue."

What is our primary use case?

I work in the architecture and construction industry. We use Power Apps to create applications for users to enter updates on our projects. The data collected is linked to SharePoint and then used to update our dashboards.

We also use Power Apps for site inspection and issue tracking on our construction sites, connecting it with SharePoint for critical use cases.

What is most valuable?

Power Apps is user-friendly and allows easy application creation without extensive programming experience. It integrates seamlessly with Power Automate for process automation and connects with email, SharePoint, Power BI, and MS Teams, facilitating everyday processes.

Issue tracking and centralized issue management are significantly enhanced with Power Apps, reducing lengthy data consolidation processes across departments.

What needs improvement?

Improvements could include more templates for application development, especially those commonly used across different companies.

Also, the integration of Microsoft's autonomous AI agents would be an excellent enhancement for Power Apps.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Power Apps since 2021.

Offers AI capabilities and native integration with Microsoft products
Pros and Cons
  • "One of the beauties of Power Apps is the fact that it's low-code."

What is our primary use case?

It's for building custom apps, which is very similar to APEX. We also use it to build small business applications related to any Microsoft products.

    What is most valuable?

In Power Apps, it's the native integration with Microsoft products. This is definitely the most powerful feature.

    What needs improvement?

There is always room for improvement in stability.

For how long have I used the solution?

It was three years ago when Power BI started to develop. But for Power Apps, we have a special center of excellence, and I am not part of it anymore because it's too bothersome.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability an eight out of ten. There is always room for improvement.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I'm not aware of any issues with Power Apps' scalability because maybe we didn't use it so heavily.

How are customer service and support?

I personally never used Microsoft support, but based on references from other colleagues, they're quite satisfied with the Microsoft support team.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We had some cloud-based platforms for development. Microsoft Power Apps is a low-code application. One of the beauties of Power Apps is the fact that it's low-code, so you don't need high-skill development experience to build. This is my opinion.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. From a setup point of view, I know that Microsoft provides quite great capabilities.

The deployment time varies and depends on the environment. It's a cloud solution. It's a private cloud, part of the Microsoft 365 tenant.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate it a seven out of ten. It's stable, reliable, and easy to implement.

Microsoft Power Apps has quite great AI capabilities. They can embed the functionality of Copilot, and all the AI capabilities of Microsoft 365 can be easily used in Power Apps, as per my knowledge.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

    Microsoft Azure

Great UI and an easy initial setup, however, users are limited to 2,000 records
    Pros and Cons
    • "There's a lot of online knowledge on the solution, to the point where new users can basically teach themselves how to use the solution."
    • "One of the major problems with it is what PowerApps calls the delegation warning. Regardless of what platform, data source, et cetera, that you're using, you can't retrieve more than 2000 records."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution as a general business process improvement. We use it as more of a digital transformation to eliminate some archaic manual processes that the business has built up over time. We're working to make everything more streamlined.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution has allowed us to remove a lot of manual redundancies and to update and streamline our processes.

    What is most valuable?

It's easy to use due to expert UI. It is great.

    The initial setup is easy.

There's a lot of online knowledge on the solution, to the point where new users can basically teach themselves how to use the solution.

    What needs improvement?

The solution is limited in a very specific way. One of the major problems with it is what PowerApps calls the delegation warning. Regardless of what platform, data source, et cetera, that you're using, you can't retrieve more than 2000 records.

I connect to an Oracle server that has well over 150,000 records that business users want to see or could use at any given time. The only thing that I could surface in the app is a portion of up to 2000 records at one data call.

Due to this limitation, I have to build in options for the user to refine the search, to go back out to the server, and then pull back records that match that search as opposed to offering all 150,000+ records. You need to filter quite extensively. Microsoft refers to is as a "delegation issue".

For how long have I used the solution?

I've only been using the solution for about a year. It hasn't been too long as of yet.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability has been very good. We've been pretty satisfied with it. It's not buggy. It doesn't crash.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

You cannot scale with PowerApps. PowerApps is still very much a point solution. The size is the size.

How are customer service and technical support?

We've dealt with technical support in the past. Everybody that we've worked with at Microsoft is phenomenal. They are always willing to help troubleshoot and get to the bottom of issues. That said, with PowerApps and even Power Automate, sometimes the teams at Microsoft still don't know why some issues occur or how to work around them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I joined the company a year ago in September. I don't think they used anything prior to that beyond the citizen developer level. There might have been a solution that the actual coders used, however, I can't recall the product's name. It was a pretty standard Microsoft application in any case. It may have been Visual Studio.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex. It's quite straightforward.

For me, just using it on my own, I just used Google searches or YouTube to figure out how do this or fix and tie items together. After about a month of learning and experimenting, I had a pretty good handle on how PowerApps works.

    What about the implementation team?

The company as a whole used Microsoft consultants to set up a center of excellence.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is free if you have a Teams account, or Office 365.

If you start to use any premium connectors that are not stored in a SharePoint list or on an Excel workbook, then it costs $4 per user per month. If you want unlimited, it's about $16 per month for unlimited apps and unlimited connectors.

There might potentially be a few other extra fees, however, I'm not sure what they are. Microsoft is one of those organizations that manage to nickel and dime its customers on everything.

What other advice do I have?

We're just a customer. We don't have a business relationship with Microsoft.

We are most likely using the most recent or updated version of the solution, however, I'm unsure of the exact version number.

While Microsoft is an option, I'd recommend users check out OutSystems first and see if it makes sense for them to use that before looking into Microsoft.

Overall, I'd rate the solution six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Public Cloud

User-friendly, but must be more robust when integrating with other tools
    Pros and Cons
    • "It can make a very user-friendly solution, and you can show your data from it."
    • "Microsoft Power Apps must be more robust when integrating with Microsoft Power BI."

What is our primary use case?

We are a construction company, and we use the solution for a lot of project management tasks and to make some relevant tools for the business.

    What is most valuable?

The solution's most valuable feature is integration. It's highly beneficial because you can bring data from many different places to it. It's an easy, pluggable solution that everyone can use. It can make a very user-friendly solution, and you can show your data from it. The solution has a new, modern look and feel and is integrated with Microsoft Power Automate and AI technology.

    What needs improvement?

Microsoft Power Apps must be more robust when integrating with Microsoft Power BI. It should be a more connectable solution so that it works in a better way.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Power Apps for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Sometimes, the solution faces network failure, slows down, and does not fetch things correctly. It has some limitations in showing the number of data, which is understandable since it's a low-code tool.

I rate the solution’s stability a six out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think the solution's scalability is growing faster, and it was a long wait for such a tool with Microsoft. It's been improving for the last five years, so the progress is good, and people are using it. People like the tool because it has good scalability. More than 1,000 people are using the solution extensively in our organization.

I rate the solution’s scalability a seven out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

We raise a ticket through Microsoft for any issues. Sometimes, the support is good, and we get call center support. Other times, we have to fix the issues ourselves. The technical support from Microsoft is not consistent.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Microsoft .NET, which took many months to develop the system. We switched to Microsoft Power Apps because it is easier, requires fewer people, and requires less time to deploy.

    How was the initial setup?

The deployment time depends on the situation, but deployment is pretty easy. You can fix things and deploy the tool within two hours. We have different environments from test to production. We move, set up a package, deploy the package, and change the connection strength. Around two to three people were involved in the solution’s deployment.

On a scale from one to ten, where one is difficult and ten is easy, I rate the solution's initial setup a seven out of ten.

    What about the implementation team?

We implemented the solution through an in-house team.

    What was our ROI?

The solution has helped grow our organizational value by converting tasks from manual to automatic.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Microsoft Power Apps is not an expensive solution.

On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a five out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a consultant and a customer of Microsoft Power Apps. The solution is automatically updated, and I'm using the recent cloud version of Microsoft Power Apps. Two to three people are enough to maintain the solution. Microsoft Power Apps supports our mobile workforce or remote operations well.

Overall, I rate the solution seven and a half out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

The solution made our organization faster and more secure
    Pros and Cons
    • "Creating a PowerApp is very easy. All I do is link and share the result with my colleagues. Deployment is very fast."
    • "I would like to have more options for changing the layout because customizing something as simple as colors is very hard."

What is our primary use case?

Right now, our primary use case is very easy to explain. I push applications for applications and supply applications on mobiles because a lot of my customers need to have to access certain data from an iPad or iPhone.

How has it helped my organization?

Microsoft PowerApps has made our organization faster and more secure.

    What is most valuable?

What I find the most valuable is the simplicity to create PowerApps and link them to a list and then bring the list from SharePoint, and sharing the data in SharePoint with other people who do not need to have access to a mobile.

Creating a PowerApp is very easy. All I do is link and share the result with my colleagues. Deployment is very fast. It takes about a month or so.

    What needs improvement?

I would like to have more options for changing the layout because customizing something as simple as colors is very hard. The environment is low-code/no-code, so changing something small is hard because you need to find tips for doing that online. It takes quite a few clicks to find a solution sometimes.

Greater customization overall would be good.

I would like for them to make it easier to link to a list. It would be great to see not only empty boxes but also those with the first data of your actual list when you create pages.

More widgets would be better as well.

The end-user experience would benefit from being more fun.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started using Microsoft PowerApps six months ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not had any real problems with performance. Any stability issues with PowerApps come from network quality and are not related to the solution's performance.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Right now, I can't say much about the solution's scalability. At the moment, we are using it for a few users, but I think we plan on increasing our scope in about two years. This would be about 1,700 people in France on the Continental retail side.

How are customer service and support?

I mostly use the Microsoft website for issues I run into so I have not had any interaction with the PowerApps support team. We also have a very strong IT team within our organization.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Overall, I give Microsoft PowerApps an eight out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before going with Microsoft PowerApps, we evaluated Mendix and WINDEV. But these are not Microsoft products and we have a big contract with Microsoft.

What other advice do I have?

I do not have any advice for future users because the solution is holding up well for me.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    Public Cloud

Easy to use and set up with great automation capabilities
    Pros and Cons
    • "It is easy to design automation processes."
    • "We'd like more features and less to no coding."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to integrate with enterprise solutions like SAP and other enterprise solutions. It's highly integrated and highly secured.

How has it helped my organization?

Externally or internally, we have several business processes that need to be automated. We write evaluations and also evaluate business procedures to see how they can be simplified. Power Apps is one of the solutions that we mostly use in our company to automate processes. We also have several clients who use it to automate SAP processes. This is the most critical business function in clients' core mission.

    What is most valuable?

It's easy to use. We create great user experiences.

    The track-to-use function is great.

It is easy to design automation processes.

The initial setup is mostly pretty simple.

Users don't have to have any technical competence in order to begin creating automation.

    What needs improvement?

We'd like to have access to previewed content and preset options. If we could preview content for specific software, that would be ideal.

The user experience could continue to be improved upon.

We'd like more features and less to no coding.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for three to four months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is s stable product and I have found the performance and reliability to be good. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. It's also adjustable.

We have around 200 people using the product.

We do plan to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

The product is fully supported by Microsoft. We have a ticket for tracking issues. There's also a community around it that can assist. They are quite responsive.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We've also used Blue Prism and UiPath. Since most of the automation processes are based on Microsoft technology like Excel and other Microsoft-related solutions, and Power Apps is based on Microsoft technology and is highly integrated with those solutions, it made sense to switch.

    How was the initial setup?

It's a stand-alone solution and uses connectivity to the software we want to automate. It's not hard to set up or to start automating things.

I'd rate the solution a four out of five in terms of ease of setup. It's not overly difficult.

We were able to deploy the product in about a week.

We have 50 to 100 people maintaining the solution.

    What about the implementation team?

I handled the implementation myself as I started out using it for testing purposes. I did not have outside assistance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't handle the licensing aspect of the solution. It's handled by another team.

It's my understanding we pay around $150 to $200 USD per user.

What other advice do I have?

We're using the latest version of the solution.

I'd recommend the solution. It works so well with other Microsoft solutions. It also could reduce the workforce and release employees from redundant daily tasks.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to install, helpful technical support, eliminates the need for Excel workbooks, but scalability is limited
    Pros and Cons
    • "The UI functionality is the most valuable aspect of this solution."
    • "If the price was reduced and the quality of the user interfaces was improved it would be beneficial."

What is our primary use case?

We use Microsoft PowerApps for internal business solutions that eliminate the need for Excel workbooks.

How has it helped my organization?

To keep track of which accounts our project managers were working on so that we could charge time back to those other lines of business.

    What is most valuable?

The UI functionality is the most valuable aspect of this solution.

    What needs improvement?

If the price was reduced and the quality of the user interfaces was improved it would be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft PowerApps since 2019.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Microsoft PowerApps is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of Microsoft PowerApps is limited.

We have a few thousand users in our organization. They are completely different. Most are individual contributor roles, but who uses what for what varies greatly.

It is being used extensively, and I'm sure there are plans to expand its use even further.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate technical support a five out of five.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I also have experience with OutSystems.

I would rate OutSystems a five out of five, and I would highly recommend them.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. I would rate it a five out of five.

Deployment took about a month once it was at my level and I fully understood it.

My implementation strategy was to meet with various business owners to identify a solution for them, then build and deploy that solution for them.

    What about the implementation team?

I did not work with a third-party integrator, consultant, or reseller. I completed the deployment by myself.

I had some help from YouTube and Google.

I'm not familiar with the maintenance aspect. I know there is a reference center and a few others from our IT department. I would guess that there is a team of a  few hundred people to maintain this solution.

    What was our ROI?

There has been a return on investments. I would rate the ROI a five out of five.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Whatever the cost of licensing is, it is in the millions.

I would rate the licensing costs a one out of five.

What other advice do I have?

My recommendation is to first investigate OutSystems.

I would rate Microsoft PowerApps a seven out of ten.

Used to support some IT processes and for employee evaluation
    Pros and Cons
    • "I like the solution's ability to approve some tasks electronically."
    • "Because we have a lot of data and users, achieving an appropriate level of security and privacy is sometimes difficult, especially for sensitive data."

What is our primary use case?

We use Microsoft Power Apps to support some IT processes and for employee evaluation. Sometimes, we use the solution to prepare electronic forms where we cannot use Microsoft Forms. We also use Microsoft Power Apps to prepare small custom applications.

    What is most valuable?

I like the solution's ability to approve some tasks electronically. When we use Power Automate to build workflows, one of the steps is the approval process. It is very convenient to have the possibility of accepting some activities.

    What needs improvement?

Because we have a lot of data and users, achieving an appropriate level of security and privacy is sometimes difficult, especially for sensitive data. I do not mean that the system is lacking in this area; rather, we need very competent people. I believe we don't have enough people to appropriately secure our data and control the transfer of this data.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Power Apps for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution a nine out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the solution’s scalability a nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

In some cases, it's very difficult to get very competent reactions from the support team regarding our tickets.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Neutral

    How was the initial setup?

The solution’s initial setup is easy.

    What was our ROI?

We have seen a return on investment with Microsoft Power Apps regarding time savings.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a six out of ten.

What other advice do I have?

Microsoft Cloud can integrate with on-premise infrastructures, but this requires additional licenses. These additional licenses are expensive for us because we have 8,000 employees. Integrating cloud services with on-premises systems is not easy for us. This is mostly not because of technical problems but because of the cost of such integrations. I would recommend the solution to other users.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
