A building block for creating applications and store data
Pros and Cons
  • "Microsoft Power Apps is the building block for creating applications, similar to how children use different types of blocks to build structures."
  • "You need to be familiar with Microsoft Power Apps' infrastructure. If you understand Power Apps, it becomes easy to use; otherwise, it may seem challenging."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to implement new Teams apps. Some customers want apps on every mobile phone in their company. This is implemented using Dynamics or SharePoint, with a list of plan data displayed on the mobile phones. Everyone enters the data and plans when holidays or machines, like magnetic resonance scanning machines, are to be used. Everyone enters this data and coordinates using that Blackboard application. It is for enterprise resource planning or HR planning.

What is most valuable?

Microsoft Power Apps is the building block for creating applications, similar to how children use different types of blocks to build structures.

Power Apps is a part of the Microsoft Power Platform suite, enabling users to build custom applications using various components. It is more akin to SharePoint in creating web pages and applications. It allows integration with SharePoint, connected web services, data files, and more.

What needs improvement?

You need to be familiar with Microsoft Power Apps' infrastructure. If you understand Power Apps, it becomes easy to use; otherwise, it may seem challenging. SharePoint can be a complex product, but if you have someone guiding you or showing you how to use the apps with online checkpoints, then it becomes much easier.

To utilize Microsoft Power Apps effectively, it's essential to grasp its integration with SharePoint. I recommend considering a structured course instead of relying solely on YouTube videos, which can be time-consuming. Whether managing a Spanish restaurant, an Indian restaurant, or any other business, investing in formal training is crucial for efficiently getting your business up and running. This approach saves valuable time compared to piecing together information from scattered online sources like YouTube or random articles across the Microsoft ecosystem.

Microsoft Power Apps allows companies to efficiently manage and utilize measurement or scattered data in competitive environments. While existing solutions are available, understanding how to leverage these solutions effectively is crucial. Power Apps provides an intuitive interface to seamlessly implement measurement data from an open environment such as a bakery or similar establishments.

How are customer service and support?

Microsoft provides excellent technical support. They are known for their competence and respond within a few business days.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The solution usually takes half an hour to start. However, getting the simple apps running might take days, and some alerts take one or two days. The most difficult part is accessing the data needed within your ERP or HR system.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The license costs around 20$ per user per month. While it is an expensive piece of software, users are willing to pay for it.

What other advice do I have?

SharePoint has been used since its inception in 2001, leveraging web service proxies and the initial framework where any web service could provide authenticated and authorized access. Custom connectors are required to access data. The connected infrastructure does not significantly affect the authentication and authorization requirements. This flexibility allows seamless integration with infrastructures like Google, SharePoint, SAP, and others.

It allows you to integrate ideas like viewing the inventory of used machines or any other inventory-based business scenario. These apps can be accessed on your mobile phone or laptop and displayed within Teams, making them interactive. It serves as a versatile platform for various business logic needs. Additionally, you can build and program apps without Teams using a standard browser, though many customers prefer using it alongside Teams.

It is a development environment that simplifies application creation, though, like any programming, it is susceptible to errors. When integrating systems such as banks, credit card companies, or health insurance providers, ensure proper authentication, authorization, and accurate data transmission. Understanding the origins and significance of your data is essential, often requiring collaboration across departments to align on business data definitions—a resource-intensive process. Developing sensitive applications in such environments can be challenging, especially regarding data protection compliance.

I recommend Microsoft Power Apps to small businesses, such as Spanish restaurants. If you have a small medical practice, like a dental office, you might experience regular service issues, especially in Germany. However, despite these issues, if you need to store data and to interact with it using mobile phones, I recommend Microsoft Power Apps.

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.

Has time-to-market efficiency and doesn't involve lengthy coding processes

What is our primary use case?

We have built a couple of apps ourselves, but mainly, we are building the apps for our customers.

What is most valuable?

The best aspect of Microsoft Power Apps is its time-to-market efficiency. Unlike traditional programming, it doesn't involve lengthy coding processes, allowing for rapid deployment. You can input your requirements and get started without writing millions of lines of code.

What needs improvement?

The product is expensive. It costs around 20 euros per month.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There is no stability concern from clients. It could be faster, but it's stable. When it is on your infrastructure, it takes more time to work than the public cloud.

How are customer service and support?

Microsoft support is not solving your problem. They're closing the ticket and telling you to open a new ticket. When you're writing back, they're not answering. When you are calling, they don't hear you. Microsoft support is the cheapest support.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy because you don't need to write a million lines of code.

What other advice do I have?

Microsoft Power Apps runs only on the cloud. There is no on-premise possibility to run it. You can run a connector connecting your on-prem infrastructure and the cloud. We are developing on Azure Active Directory. We're also using it because our clients also use Azure. We have big and small Azure clients. Everything is in the cloud.

If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription. You already have access to Power Apps. You can utilize pre-built apps and even create your own without needing additional data apps.

The solution is fast to adapt.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

The solution made our organization faster and more secure
Pros and Cons
  • "Creating a PowerApp is very easy. All I do is link and share the result with my colleagues. Deployment is very fast."
  • "I would like to have more options for changing the layout because customizing something as simple as colors is very hard."

What is our primary use case?

Right now, our primary use case is very easy to explain. I push applications for applications and supply applications on mobiles because a lot of my customers need to have to access certain data from an iPad or iPhone.

How has it helped my organization?

Microsoft PowerApps has made our organization faster and more secure.

What is most valuable?

What I find the most valuable is the simplicity to create PowerApps and link them to a list and then bring the list from SharePoint, and sharing the data in SharePoint with other people who do not need to have access to a mobile.

Creating a PowerApp is very easy. All I do is link and share the result with my colleagues. Deployment is very fast. It takes about a month or so.

What needs improvement?

I would like to have more options for changing the layout because customizing something as simple as colors is very hard. The environment is low-code/no-code, so changing something small is hard because you need to find tips for doing that online. It takes quite a few clicks to find a solution sometimes.

Greater customization overall would be good.

I would like for them to make it easier to link to a list. It would be great to see not only empty boxes but also those with the first data of your actual list when you create pages.

More widgets would be better as well.

The end-user experience would benefit from being more fun.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started using Microsoft PowerApps six months ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I have not had any real problems with performance. Any stability issues with PowerApps come from network quality and are not related to the solution's performance.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Right now, I can't say much about the solution's scalability. At the moment, we are using it for a few users, but I think we plan on increasing our scope in about two years. This would be about 1,700 people in France on the Continental retail side.

How are customer service and support?

I mostly use the Microsoft website for issues I run into so I have not had any interaction with the PowerApps support team. We also have a very strong IT team within our organization.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Overall, I give Microsoft PowerApps an eight out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Before going with Microsoft PowerApps, we evaluated Mendix and WINDEV. But these are not Microsoft products and we have a big contract with Microsoft.

What other advice do I have?

I do not have any advice for future users because the solution is holding up well for me.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Easy to use and set up with great automation capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "It is easy to design automation processes."
  • "We'd like more features and less to no coding."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to integrate with enterprise solutions like SAP and other enterprise solutions. It's highly integrated and highly secured.

How has it helped my organization?

Externally or internally, we have several business processes that need to be automated. We write evaluations and also evaluate business procedures to see how they can be simplified. Power Apps is one of the solutions that we mostly use in our company to automate processes. We also have several clients who use it to automate SAP processes. This is the most critical business function in clients' core mission.

What is most valuable?

It's easy to use. We create great user experiences.

The track-to-use function is great.

It is easy to design automation processes.

The initial setup is mostly pretty simple.

Users don't have to have any technical competence in order to begin creating automation.

What needs improvement?

We'd like to have access to previewed content and preset options. If we could preview content for specific software, that would be ideal.

The user experience could continue to be improved upon.

We'd like more features and less to no coding.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for three to four months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is s stable product and I have found the performance and reliability to be good. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. It's also adjustable.

We have around 200 people using the product.

We do plan to increase usage.

How are customer service and support?

The product is fully supported by Microsoft. We have a ticket for tracking issues. There's also a community around it that can assist. They are quite responsive.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We've also used Blue Prism and UiPath. Since most of the automation processes are based on Microsoft technology like Excel and other Microsoft-related solutions, and Power Apps is based on Microsoft technology and is highly integrated with those solutions, it made sense to switch.

How was the initial setup?

It's a stand-alone solution and uses connectivity to the software we want to automate. It's not hard to set up or to start automating things.

I'd rate the solution a four out of five in terms of ease of setup. It's not overly difficult.

We were able to deploy the product in about a week.

We have 50 to 100 people maintaining the solution.

What about the implementation team?

I handled the implementation myself as I started out using it for testing purposes. I did not have outside assistance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I don't handle the licensing aspect of the solution. It's handled by another team.

It's my understanding we pay around $150 to $200 USD per user.

What other advice do I have?

We're using the latest version of the solution.

I'd recommend the solution. It works so well with other Microsoft solutions. It also could reduce the workforce and release employees from redundant daily tasks.

I'd rate the solution eight out of ten.

Easy to install, helpful technical support, eliminates the need for Excel workbooks, but scalability is limited
Pros and Cons
  • "The UI functionality is the most valuable aspect of this solution."
  • "If the price was reduced and the quality of the user interfaces was improved it would be beneficial."

What is our primary use case?

We use Microsoft PowerApps for internal business solutions that eliminate the need for Excel workbooks.

How has it helped my organization?

To keep track of which accounts our project managers were working on so that we could charge time back to those other lines of business.

What is most valuable?

The UI functionality is the most valuable aspect of this solution.

What needs improvement?

If the price was reduced and the quality of the user interfaces was improved it would be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft PowerApps since 2019.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Microsoft PowerApps is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of Microsoft PowerApps is limited.

We have a few thousand users in our organization. They are completely different. Most are individual contributor roles, but who uses what for what varies greatly.

It is being used extensively, and I'm sure there are plans to expand its use even further.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate technical support a five out of five.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I also have experience with OutSystems.

I would rate OutSystems a five out of five, and I would highly recommend them.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. I would rate it a five out of five.

Deployment took about a month once it was at my level and I fully understood it.

My implementation strategy was to meet with various business owners to identify a solution for them, then build and deploy that solution for them.

What about the implementation team?

I did not work with a third-party integrator, consultant, or reseller. I completed the deployment by myself.

I had some help from YouTube and Google.

I'm not familiar with the maintenance aspect. I know there is a reference center and a few others from our IT department. I would guess that there is a team of a  few hundred people to maintain this solution.

What was our ROI?

There has been a return on investments. I would rate the ROI a five out of five.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Whatever the cost of licensing is, it is in the millions.

I would rate the licensing costs a one out of five.

What other advice do I have?

My recommendation is to first investigate OutSystems.

I would rate Microsoft PowerApps a seven out of ten.

The solution offers flexibility, easy setup, and fairly quick results to its users
Pros and Cons
  • "Flexibility, easy setup, and fairly quick results are valuable features of the product."
  • "The fact that we couldn't share that with our other organization or outside of the organization, consisting of our colleagues in the joint ventures, was a weakness of the solution."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is used internally in my company.

What is most valuable?

Flexibility, easy setup, and fairly quick results are valuable features of the product.

What needs improvement?

The fact that we couldn't share that with our other organization or outside of the organization, consisting of our colleagues in the joint ventures, was a weakness of the solution. So, it is an area that needs improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Power Apps since 2018 or 2019, so it's four or five years. Also, I am using the solution's latest version. I mainly use the cloud version. I am a customer of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Regarding stability, with the normal version of the Canvas app and Power Apps, and for fairly simple apps, it's perfect. But if you need a more nested or layered system in your app, setting them up takes a little time. And it also takes a lot of manual maintenance of the items in your product.

Stability depends and varies from case to case. So, what I do is mainly internal and feedback collection and everything to manipulate how the data comes in, which is great. The interface or setting could be better, but they would have compromised all the other things, including the lead time for development. So, for that level of work, the performance would be about eight on a scale of one to ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability depends on the knowledge and skill set of the users. My user community has been in range from seventeen hundred to five.

How are customer service and support?

Given the size, I think that support from the technical team is acceptable. I have had problems with SharePoint, including stalling and throttling of the back end and everything. It took me quite a long time to get an answer from Microsoft, which I understand, as they are big companies, and so they are not going to fix it for you the next day even when they know something, so I would say it's considerable and understandable. There are things that are up there, and they probably are not such a technical hassle to be developed or to be resolved. Now, considering the fact that they have already been around for a few years, it can be a bit disappointing. But, well, given the user community and the forums and everything, I think that it is forgivable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I use Mendix. Mendix has more of everything in one place, and you can see your process actually as in a flow instead of ready code or work with the objects in the front end. So that's definitely a pro of the solution. The problem is that it's much less configurable with the other solutions than Power Apps. Power Apps by itself is not configurable, but it is pretty much configurable when connected to a database, Azure or SharePoint.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is deployed on a corporate cloud, so it is for the organization's private use. The time taken for deployment depends on the complexity. But, when I was working on Power Apps, it took me days. When they were responsive or needed to form a table, I needed to manually add blocks on top of each other, including everything in that, and that was taking a long time.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Usually, the free licenses of Power Apps come to normal corporate users for free. If you do not use the premium workspace and are employed in a big company already using E3 or E5, then Power Apps would be something for free, and that's a trick. For normal users within a corporate firm with licenses, it's totally favorable. But I don't know how it would be if you were outside a company or using it yourself.

What other advice do I have?

The overall performance of the solution depends on the use cases. So, Microsoft Power Apps is perfect for smaller things or smaller assignments. For very big things, the solution's overall performance also depends on the education level of the people using it. But if you want it to be super reliable and whatever, I would say that it has some constraints. And I was using a version of the solution with SharePoint and all. I was still working on the database and things like that. I understand that they will probably be performing much better. The normal version is not a super reliable tool.

Microsoft Power Apps has been very useful. With Mendix, I have been a user of the developed solutions, but because of the tool and the license you need to get or the training you need to get before starting with the development, it has been hindering, so I cannot really say. Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

A solution that helps its users with small and medium tasks involving the automation of processes
Pros and Cons
  • "I would say that it's a very advanced product because it empowers people to do simple things, which previously may have required people to have some technical skills."
  • "One area where the solution lacks is the limited size of the database it offers its users."

What is our primary use case?

We are a big global company that is involved in a large volume of setups involving Microsoft solutions like Power Apps, Power BI, and Power Automate for different environments across departments in organizations functioning at a global level. So we are involved in delivering services while focusing on the setup processes for different environments and departments. It helps the people at work since solutions like Power Apps and Power Automate function excellently.

What is most valuable?

I would say that it's a very advanced product because it empowers people to do simple things, which previously may have required people to have some technical skills. So, no matter which department or what technical skills a person possesses, it has become very easy to build or automate certain processes. In my company, we chose Microsoft Power Apps since it helps us with small and medium tasks like making certain processes, generating reports, and so on.

What needs improvement?

Though I don't remember enough details about the solution to comment on it, I think the solution does need to add some technical features to it since I remember that we had faced some gaps while trying to automate certain processes. One area where the solution lacks is the limited size of the database it offers its users. So, some businesses planning to scale up may face certain restrictions while using the solution. Microsoft Power Apps also needs to provide its users with certain specific connectors within the solution. I won't be aggressive enough to complain more about the solution since, in our company, we have a lot of specific handmade tools, and so we don't explicitly expect Microsoft to create specific connectors for Power Apps.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with Microsoft Power Apps for three years. Also, I don't remember the solution's version since I used it six months ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is generally stable, but some limitations, such as the embedded database usage limits, can impair its functionality.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Since my previous company had a specific license agreement with Microsoft, the solution was scalable. The solution allowed for adding new licenses to the company on demand through a step-by-step procedure. This task was carried out during the first stage of the solution's deployment process after we discovered the need for additional licenses.

So, around 65,000 employees were using the solution in the environment flawlessly. Also, my previous company had plans to increase the number of users. The company had decided that since the platform was an excellent one, it should predominantly be used for small and medium processes. Management was planning to scale it up and was waiting for Microsoft to provide a more powerful capacity solution at a time when the company had around 1,00,000 employees.

How are customer service and support?

Technicians from Microsoft visited our company and helped us sort out certain issues, specifically strategic issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In our company, we were previously using Microsoft SharePoint Dev. We, later on, chose Microsoft Power Apps since it helps us automate small and medium processes.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup process for the solution is not complex. So, the company had made arrangements to help us manage the initial kickoff and deployment processes. Since it may not be a very easy process, it is more or less a mediocre one.

Because there were a lot of employees in my previous organization, it took around one year for the deployment process to be completed. Taking into consideration the environment, the initial settings, and the need to take care of security, the entire deployment process would take around one year.

The deployment process was carried out in three stages. If we consider the deployment's first stage, it is free for one year, though I can't recollect it entirely. However, I can say that it was related to Microsoft Azure since it was about security involving steps like how to create the security levels and which levels one can create. So, this process was carried out to create, considering our structure, resources, strategies in the company, security, and environment. The second stage involved the creation of real environments and splitting environments, divisions, and departments. The third stage involved communication and promotion. We then created the specific site devoted to the tools in Power Apps before creating a knowledge base consisting of general articles, specific articles, and the general question and answer section.

What about the implementation team?

We sourced the solution's version for free projects from a company, and the company was really helpful.

Regarding deployment and maintenance, our company had technical resources, promotional resources, analytics, and so on. So, we had a big in-house team using all the available resources. So, around fifteen people in a team were looking at the implementation part of the solution. Also, our sales company had a team of ten members. In short, a significant number of resources were engaged in the solution's maintenance phases.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I had not participated in the evaluation process, and our management communicated with consultants and other resources to investigate solutions, after which they possibly chose Microsoft Power Apps.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend those considering the solution give it a try. Our organization had some initial doubts, but after comparing it with other platforms in the market, we found it to be highly advanced. Additionally, since we have received excellent support from the vendors, we are confident they will not leave us to face any issues with the solution alone. Many consulting companies are also available to provide further assistance. These factors have made Power Apps and Power Automate popular. Owing to the solution's ability to solve a company's small and medium automated processes, I rate the overall solution an eight out of ten.
