What is our primary use case?
We use Apollo.io through the web browser. There are constant updates for Apollo.io recently. They continuously change their UI and their data. They keep on adding more options and more variations in tools. We majorly use Apollo.io for email and intent data, numbers and quick email outreaches.
Since I majorly do lead generation via LinkedIn, I use Apollo.io to get people's emails and contact numbers at a work level. Once I get those contact numbers, I usually verify them. Apollo.io used to provide much better service before and their UI used to be less clunky. The user experience nowadays is not as good as it used to be. My main use case would be emails and contact numbers. They used to provide more verified emails and numbers, but nowadays, it's not as reliable. We sometimes have to go through other tools to get more information.
We use that for the most basic outreaches because for outreach, we have other tools that are much more suitable. I just use Apollo.io for quick outreach where I would select a bunch of leads, upload them to Apollo.io, select them, have a small sequence, and then run it.
What is most valuable?
Their Waterfall Enrichment has evolved significantly. Previously, they only used their own database, but nowadays, they use Waterfall Enrichment where multiple tools can be selected to provide email data. They don't only use their own database. I can select as many tools as I want, add APIs, link external tools, and add AI. Those are all very useful features, especially when it comes to finding mobile numbers.
Compared to other tools, Apollo.io provides emails reliably, and they have an effective search feature. They also have a feature where if I upload a LinkedIn lead with a LinkedIn link that isn't in their database, Apollo.io would add that lead to their database using my provided information. When uploading CSVs and enriching leads, they don't charge as much as getting leads from Apollo.io itself, which is a much more friendly and fair approach compared to other tools.
What needs improvement?
Apollo.io used to provide much better service before and their UI used to be less clunky. The user experience nowadays is not as good as it used to be. They used to provide more verified emails and numbers, but nowadays, it's not as reliable. We sometimes have to go through other tools to get more information as they have been lackluster in that area.
Their information gathering is not as updated as it used to be. They don't have enough information.
When it comes to performance, it's a very heavy app now. It takes time to load, stutters, and gets stuck frequently. Previously, it used to be much less laggy and easier to use. The UI live update was good before, but nowadays, I have to refresh the page to see if they had sourced the email or if old information is still being displayed.
LinkedIn keeps updating their tools, rules, and regulations. Due to these reasons, Apollo.io experiences bugs, crashes, detail updates, and jumbled columns during updates. These issues are understandable from a developer perspective, but they create minor inconveniences for customers.
I would appreciate if Apollo.io could restore the reliability of their email service to its previous level.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
Communication was difficult due to accent-related misunderstandings.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The app is very heavy and takes time to load, with frequent stuttering and freezing issues. Previously, it was much less laggy and easier to use. The UI live updates worked smoothly before, but now I have to refresh the page to see if they had sourced the email or if old information is still being displayed. The UI has become heavy, clunky, and slow.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Apollo.io is really good for small-tier companies with its price point. If a company is scaling up and has more funding, other tools would be more appropriate because Apollo.io is not as good as it used to be. Apollo.io is not very scalable if your company has a bigger budget - you need to simply move on from Apollo.io. Apollo.io remains the budget-friendly option.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support and customer support are not very effective. We had issues with Apollo.io's technical support because they repeatedly provided the same responses even when our issues were different.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I am a customer with personalized account managers in Apollo.io. We have our own custom plan within Apollo.io.
How was the initial setup?
Apollo.io is a browser tool. The setup process involved providing our credentials, and they customized the plan according to our needs. After payment, we received credentials and a temporary password. We could log in, change the password, and begin using the service. All credits were properly updated with no issues of disappearing credits. The onboarding process wasn't complicated as we were familiar with similar UIs and could navigate through the tool without personal training.
What about the implementation team?
I attended all the implementation calls.
What was our ROI?
We conduct our own analysis rather than using Apollo.io's analysis tools. Our lead generation work is very manual. We do our own research and outreaches. We don't usually use other tools for analysis because we are persistent about having the best analytic information. We use tools, but they are not automated. This allows us to closely monitor everything. We don't use Apollo.io's analytic features for research purposes.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We don't integrate our CRMs. We use HubSpot.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I have seen it but have not yet explored it.
What other advice do I have?
LinkedIn's frequent updates to their tools and regulations can cause Apollo.io to experience bugs, crashes, and data display issues. While these issues can appear problematic for the business, they are understandable from a technical perspective. As a customer, these were minor inconveniences rather than app-breaking bugs. The technical support could be improved as they tend to provide repetitive responses regardless of the specific issue. This review rates Apollo.io as 7 out of 10.
