GoToMeeting Reviews

GoToMeeting's low latency is crucial because everybody is using VPN to connect to their PCs at work. The sound and video quality are solid, and the whiteboarding features were especially useful. The administrative side of it was fairly simple and intuitive to use. 

Using GoToMeeting in a meeting-sized conference room is kind of a letdown. The camera is supposed to track the speaker and focus on that person so that they can be on the screen. That feature rarely worked. We tested it thoroughly, so maybe it was an issue with the size of the conference room. It may not be suitable for large conference rooms.

We have been using GoToMeeting since the start of the pandemic.

I thought GoToMeeting was highly stable. We seldom had issues with downtime, and planned maintenance was sporadic. We have a third-party IP group that handles a lot of the backend stuff, and we tried to make some adjustments to improve the stability, but we found out that the service provider was having problems.

GoToMeeting tech support was excellent. We needed some firmware upgrades, and the tech support systems were relatively straightforward. We didn't have any problems with that. Notifications were on time, and scheduled maintenance occurred on weekends with advanced notice via email. 

We only had a few issues with GoToMeeting involving our work with the federal government. That was a little disconcerting, but we contacted customer support. They could rectify the problems as soon as we had them.

in the beginning, we were testing LogMeIn, and it was fairly new to us, but there wasn't a steep learning curve for setting up these devices. It's like maybe a 10 to 15-minute job to get that done. Getting that connectivity through a third-party provider was somewhat of a pain, but it would've been a piece of cake using our network. 

At the start of the pandemic, my coworker and I had to pick a videoconferencing solution, and we had a set of criteria we needed to meet. GoToMeeting met all our expectations. Our management loved it.

It was an emergency purchase, so we had to make fast decisions. We reviewed each vendor briefly to compare conference features and liabilities and then decided pretty quickly. We've since adopted Google Workspace, which has a competing conference solution that's worthless, in my opinion, so we're still using GoToMeeting for that

I rate GoToMeeting nine out of 10. My advice to future GoToMeeting users is to spend time on training.  We held an instructor class in which admin staff would act as presenters. What helped us was to make the devices for each presenter, so all you had to do is scroll to that meeting and select it, and you're off and running. Training non-technical staff should be the priority. Having a dedicated person to keep the system up and running would be number two.

Our company is based in Australia and we have been using this product for company meetings, collaboration, and vendor engagements. We are currently phasing out the use of this solution. We are customers of GoToMeeting and I am the company's chief information officer.  

For a period, this product was useful in reducing the need to commute between offices.

We're phasing out the use of GoToMeeting because of some of its deficiencies. It lacks ease of connectivity, calendar integrations, and third-party app integrations. The user interface is quite poor and needs to be reworked and the product is quite clunky in comparison to its competitors. It currently lacks the ability for sharing collaborative materials during a meeting. 

We also found that the ability to switch between audio and video configurations isn't as intuitive as in other applications. I generally do 20-30 hours of video conferencing a day, so it makes a difference to have these features. 

It doesn't integrate as easily into phone systems as well as other organizations and it doesn't integrate as easy into instant messaging and collaboration tools or into software solutions. In general, some of the functionalities need to be improved.

I've been using this solution for 10 years. 

The stability is average. It appears to strain at point of presence. We found the throughput and connections to be somewhat less than desirable. We carried out a 6-month study on how much it costs the organization in terms of downtime, disconnections, and slowness. It wasn't good. 

The solution is scalable. 

We didn't utilize the support very much.

We previously used Skype, Webex and Bigblue Button which was an open-source product.

It took a few hours to implement and was carried out in-house using a systems administrator and a service desktop person. 

There has been a return on investment in terms of the savings on travel time but it could have been better. 

This is not an expensive solution, we pay around $5,000AUD maximum per year. There are other fees for data carriage, PABX fees, and the like but they would apply to any similar product. 

There are better solutions on the market with this product currently sitting in the mid-range. From a collaborative point of view, there are numerous areas for improvement, in particular the interface. GoToMeeting seems stuck in what video conferencing and collaboration were about seven to eight years ago and competitors have overtaken it.

I rate this solution five out of 10. 

With GoToMeeting, I like that it works well for seminars and similar events. Finding a platform where multiple people can share their images, split the screen with content, and manage presentations smoothly is uncommon. It allows the presenter to handle questions, answers, and other opinions.

The tool needs to have a virtual room where users can pass through. It also needs to integrate a real-time translator. 

The solution is very stable. 

I have attended meetings with 200-1000 participants.  

I haven't scheduled a meeting with GoToMeeting, but I have experience with Zoom, Google Meet, MS Teams, and BlueJeans. Zoom is great for switching between the main and breakout rooms and is easy to set up. Google Meet is easy to set up, but its quality is inferior. MS Teams is well-integrated with daily tools like Outlook.

I don't use the solution much. We use it only when customers ask for it and internally use Microsoft Teams. I rate the overall solution a ten out of ten. 

I use the solution when someone is comfortable using it, and I recommend using it. 

We can record meetings and share the screen with participants. 

The solution must include archive options to save the recorded meetings for future reference. The recording functionality can benefit our team by improving how meetings are recorded and shared. Previously, only admins could record meetings, sometimes leading to issues if recordings were missed or not shared properly. The recent update now allows hosting GoToMeeting sessions with the ability to delegate recording rights to other team members.

I have faced stability issues whenever there is a large number of users. 

I rate the solution's scalability an eight out of ten. My company has four users. 

I haven't contacted technical support yet. 

GoToMeeting's deployment is straightforward. Whenever I have a requirement, I install it.

We've had a positive experience. 

It can provide good communication with external partners. We can work on problems and discuss things if we have a common interest.

It's easy to set up.

We've used it for long calls and never had an issue, although we've never had to go beyond two hours in a single session. 

It's scalable. 

It offers the same quality and service as other similar solutions. 

It's efficient.

I haven't encountered any issues with the product.

The product itself doesn't stand out against other options on the market.

We use the solution on an ad hoc basis. Some suppliers have it, and when they use it, we use it. We've used it for a while. 

We've never had to connect with technical support.

I've used Microsoft Teams and Skype before Microsoft bought it. They are all roughly the same in terms of quality and useability.

The initial setup is very simple and straightforward. 

I'm not sure how much the solution costs. 

We tend to use the solution for smaller connections, although there may be many people on each side. We haven't tried to use it when a large number of people have tried to connect at once. 

That said, I understand that it is quite scalable.

I'd likely recommend Microsoft Teams to people, although it's my understanding that it is a bit expensive. 

I'd rate this solution seven out of ten.

We primarily use the solution for meetings. For example, we don't use it for webinars. 

We have found the initial setup to be simple.

It works, it's reliable. 

They seem to have improved the solution over the last year to help resolves some firewall issues. 

Overall, the solution is useful for running virtual meetings seamlessly.

Sometimes we'll run into issues where firewall rules aren't set correctly and won't work. However, that hasn't happened probably in the last year or so. It seems like GoToMeeting changed something that made it better. They're maybe using a different port or some different access. However, something changed to make it better.

I've been using the solution for around five years. 

The solution is stable and reliable. There are no bugs or glitches and it doesn't crash or freeze.

We only really use it for particular products. We don't have a set amount of users that leverage the product.

We likely won't increase or decrease usage. We'll continue with the status quo for now. 

We've never directly dealt with technical support. I cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they are when you need help. 

We do a lot of virtual meetings and we use Microsoft Teams predominantly.

Other companies we deal with happen to be on the WebEx, GoToMeeting, or TeamViewer platforms, which is why we sometimes use them.

The initial setup is really straightforward. It's not overly complex or difficult.

We just use the basic version of the product.

I don't directly deal with the licensing or pricing aspects of the product.

We are just a customer and an end-user. We don't have any business relationship with the company.

I'd rate the product nine out of ten.

We use GoToMeeting for video conferencing. It's usually between 15 and 20 participants per meeting.

We have our meetings on GoToMeeting, and everything is unmuted by default. So there's a frigging ton of noise in the background. And these are board meetings, so you can't tell the board of directors like, "Would you get it together here, dude? You're making a mess of this whole meeting because you have no clue how to use technology."

We've been using GoToMeeting ever since the COVID outbreak started.

GoToMeeting breaks down a lot. We're not sure if it's breaking down, but we start getting very erratic community channels. I don't know if it's because of GoToMeeting or if we're not buying enough bandwidth. Maybe it is just the infrastructure that it's running on. I'm not quite sure.

I don't recall using LogMein tech support. I haven't personally, but then I'm not the tech guy. I'm the guy who signs contracts.

Teams and GoToMeeting are the solutions we initiate from. Some people like initiating their meetings from Teams. Some people like initiating their meetings from GoToMeeting. We've also used Webex but never on a large scale, so I have no opinion on whether it is more stable than GoToMeeting. 

I'm not sitting here analyzing the 900 ways that I can communicate. I might've been on Webex meetings where there were 50 people because one of the vendors was doing a big presentation for all their customers, or there may have been 20. Were there 20 people on that? Were there 100 people on that? I don't know. I just know there were a lot of people on there. I didn't sit and count. And as a vendor, he controls it. The vendor can say, "Okay, I don't want to see any pictures. Everybody is muted." So it looks like it's a good presentation.

There's really no reason we went with GoToMeeting over the others. It was just chosen because somebody at the company said, "We need a meeting thing. Hey, go find a meeting thing." It wasn't me, but somebody else in the organization was like, "Alright, let's use GoToMeeting. It's free." Then we started using it for free. Then we were already using it so we started paying for it for more users. 

We primarily use the solution for meetings.

The price is very good if you get 150 users. It used to be owned by Citrix, and they sold it off to LogMeIn. LogMeIn increased the number of users, first from 25 to 50, and then to 150, and they didn't raise the price. 

They now have a version that allows you to not only have an audio/video archive, but also a text version of the meeting. With a text transcript, you can quickly find something somebody said or somebody's name without having to listen for another 30 or 40 minutes. That's very convenient. I don't think any of the other remote meeting solutions are offering that right now.

For example, I once spent three hours trying to listen to a piece of an archive over and over and over again to find some specific information. Having a written transcript is great. I do it with my voicemail too. My voicemail is all now voice-to-text. It's just so much faster to be able to read. I don't care for this obsession everybody has with doing videos for everything, because they disturb people around you. If you can read you can find what you need immediately. That's why I believe a written transcript is a great feature.

GoToMeeting's security is very good. I've never known anybody to crash a GoToMeeting.

The panel where you set up and schedule meetings allows you to schedule rooms, or you can schedule individual meetings. A really nice feature of GoToMeeting that the others don't have is that it hosts the archives. You get these big files anywhere from 50MBs to 300MBs. GoToMeeting is hosted in the cloud.

In the case of Microsoft Meet, you can't even get the archive without paying an arm and a leg. With other solutions, you have to download these huge files. Then, if you want to share them with somebody else, they have to download them as well. GTM destroys the archives after a year. If you need to keep something more than a year you can always download that one particular file.

The new version crashes my ISP. I don't like the new version. I hope they continue to support the Classic version.

I didn't like the fact that LogMeIn tried to make their new version look like Zoom. The feature in the Classic version includes a little panel for GoToMeeting to be off to the side, and it doesn't interfere with your browser. It is much better.

All these companies, including the new version of GoToMeeting, have a useless bunch of controls at the top that blocks the tabs of your browser. This makes it so that you can't jump around from tab to tab when you're showing your screen. Those controls are so tiny. 

Yesterday I was on a session on one of the products (not GTM), and it had shrunk it down to one inch by one inch. It was so small that I couldn't find the tab to make it bigger. That's a big issue. 

In this attempt to look like Zoom, GTM has gone to the extent where the controls are a little skinny line above your browser. That's not good. The controls need to be highly visible, and contrast so they are easy to read and find. 

It would be nice if they would have a whiteboard where everybody in the meeting can draw or write on it. We use Google Docs for that purpose, but Google Docs doesn't really allow you to draw. When I was running a different college system, the college system had a whiteboard. All the students and the teachers could all write on the whiteboard with their fingers, as I recall. It'd be nice if they would have something similar available in the future.

I've been using the solution for six or seven years. It may have even been longer than that.

I have AT&T as my ISP. Only when I went to the new version of GTM, and it would crash my AT&T. The interesting thing was, even though I was the host, the meeting went on without me. 

I was running the new version for a couple of meetings that had to have lots of cameras and it would crash my AT&T. My AT&T never crashes, so this was really unusual. Then I'd get back on, and I'd find out everybody was still meeting without me, which was kind of cool. I don't know how they make that happen, that the host can be off and yet the meeting can continue, but that's the case.

When the pandemic first started, GoToMeeting offered free subscriptions, and then they got overwhelmed with new customers. Due to that, they were down for about a day. The archives didn't work for a few days. Since then it's been very stable. I don't know what they did. They must have bought some more servers or something, however, it's been very stable since that one day of the outage.

My subscription allows 150 attendees. That's way more than I need for FieldDay, our clients, and our Project Management World events. People who need more than 150 users should select GotoWebinar which can accommodate up to 3000 users. 

When the pandemic first started, GoToMeeting offered free subscriptions, and then they got so many new customers, they kind-of crashed and they were down for about a day. While we didn't call technical support, we, and other users, jumped on Twitter and communicated with the solution that way. They were great. They got everything back up and running and it's been very good since then. We've been satisfied with technical support so far.

Many years ago, I used WebEx. It used to be the only solution in town. Then, when Zoom first came out almost 20 years ago, we were using some community college tools, including a tool called Illuminate and another called CCC Confer. Zoom came to us and asked us to do the beta trial of their new product and use it for education. Unfortunately, at that time, it was really in bad shape. We needed whiteboards and that they didn't have as a feature. 

We don't usually use Zoom specifically as there's the potential that people can "crash" meetings, and we'd prefer to avoid that. GoTo has much better security.

The only setup needed is to create Rooms to use the same URL for every meeting in that room. These were easy to setup but I do not recommend them. Meetings held in rooms do not show up on the GTM calendar so there can be a problem of meetings interfering with each other. 

Implementation does not apply to GTM or its competitors. Download it or use it in a browser. No implementation is needed. 

Tremendous. Classic GTM is an amazing product and much better than the competition. Unfortunately the new version of GTM is another Zoom-lookalike. I hope that Classic stays around forever. 

You can get free subscriptions. I have a paid subscription. The CEO has a paid subscription, but we can't afford to buy GoTomeeting for every person. They get the free ones instead. There's some limitations on those, and all these other companies are also offering free options. Some of them have a restriction on items such as "you can't schedule meetings in advance", or "the meetings can only be 45 minutes", etc. There are always restrictions on the free versions, which is fair. They shouldn't have to give away your product.

I use the solution every day, two or three times a day. We also use GoToWebinar as well, which is their webinar product.

GTM has two versions available. One is called New GoToMeeting, and one is called Classic. I prefer Classic. When I'm doing PowerPoint and Google Docs, and when we're using faces and cameras, the new version looks a lot like Zoom. The others are where it's just a bunch of faces or people on their cameras. 

As an aside, when I use the new version, I have to use Windows 10. That's because my Windows 10 machine has a camera, and my Windows 7 machine does not have a camera. So that's a big distinction between the two versions for me.

I'd advise new users that they need to figure out what it is that they're going to do with it. If they're looking for just talking heads and cameras, then they should use the new version. If they're doing more sharing of documents then they should use the Classic version.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

We use this solution to contact some of our customers, and also to have internal meetings with colleagues.

We like that this solution allows us to assign separate numbers to people without having to have a physical telephone system in place.

We would like some improvement in the speed of initiating this solution, as it is currently fairly slow.

We would also like there to be some third-party integration added into this solution, so that it can be linked in with Google Workspace, Google agenda and notes, etc.

We have been using this solution for almost three years.

We have found this to be a reasonably stable solution during our time using it.

This is a fairly scalable solution.

The initial setup for this solution is easy, and the implementation took less than ten minutes to complete.

We would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

We primarily use the solution mostly for training. We also use it for client meetings as it's easier when you send the link to the customer when you need to have a conference call with them. 

There is a smartphone application and it is web-based. You can use it from any device, Linux, macOS, Windows. Everything works with GoToMeeting.

The performance and stability are great. We don't have any issues. 

It is cloud-based, however, we are fine with that. It is enough to have a stable and moderate to fast internet connection.

The product can scale.

We found the initial setup very simple. 

The dashboards are great.

It offers good chat functionality.

Pricing is reasonable. It's not expensive. The pricing is one of the great selling points for the product.

There may be more features available in, for example, Cisco WebEx.

The solution could always be more secure. 

I've been using the solution for a few years at this point.

Stability and performance have been good. There are no bugs or glitches. it doesn't crash or freeze.

You can get many simultaneous users can be in one meeting. This is the scalability from GoToMeeting's point of view. They are selling the fact that a number of users can use it at the same time.

We have around 20 people using the solution right now.

We do not require any support at this time. It's pretty simple to use. We've also never had any technical issues. 

We have also previously used Skype.

Most of the time it's only a plugin in a web browser or application via smartphone. Therefore, the initial setup is straightforward. It's not overly complex or difficult. There isn't really an installation process. You don't need a technical team.

We did not need outside assistance from consultants or integrators when it came to setting up the solution. We were able to do it ourselves. 

We do need to pay for the license in order to use the solution. It's not an expensive product.

We're always on the latest version of the solution right now. I can't speak to the exact version number.

I'd advise potential new users to try it and see if the features that are supported by GoToMeeting are enough for them. They may expect some features which are not available in GoToMeeting. However, those features may be available in Cisco WebEx, for example, or some other solution.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten.

I'd recommend the solution to others.
