Great usability, best localization, reasonable price, and comes with all basic ERP functionalities

Our clients are medium-sized companies.

How are customer service and support?

SAP's technical support is good.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its price is reasonable. People are able to spend that much.

What other advice do I have?

I would advise doing no customization. This is the best way. There is no point in doing customizations and making ERP unstable.

I would rate SAP Business One a nine out of ten.

Stable with good pricing and a fairly easy initial setup
Pros and Cons
  • "The product seems to be quite stable."
  • "The stability has been very good overall."
  • "It would be ideal if the reporting and dashboards were improved upon."
  • "It would be ideal if the reporting and dashboards were improved upon."

What is our primary use case?

The product is mainly used for digitalizing and automating finance and distribution and production as well as project planning, among other tasks. These processes are not really automated. Nowadays, customers are already using some database application ERP. They are most migrate from there to SAP, however, there are certain customers who are not using any database management system ERP.

What is most valuable?

The features around finance and financial accounting are very good.

There are those customers who also do manufacturing, and they find the cost controlling feature of ACP to be very relevant.

The production planning and maintenance models are very helpful.

The pricing of the solution is pretty good.

The product seems to be quite stable.

What needs improvement?

It would be ideal if the reporting and dashboards were improved upon. There are some analytics that could be more robust and the business intelligence portion is lacking. There are some aspects that are lacking, meaning that clients need to go to third-party services in order to get viable results.

The product does have some scalability limitations, depending on how you need to scale.

For how long have I used the solution?

We don't really use the solution ourselves. We are basically the implementation partner of SAP. We do not use SAP VIP products.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability has been very good overall. Our clients don't have any complaints. It doesn't crash or freeze. It's reliable and doesn't seem to have any bugs or glitches.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We typically deal with small to medium-sized organizations.

While the solution is scalable in terms of business expansion, it doesn't come out of the box. It's very specific to a company and its requirements. Therefore, you can't just add to it as the offering is rather bespoke. However, if a company grows in size and has the same requirements, it should be fine.

How are customer service and technical support?

While I don't really deal with technical support myself, we have a Business One team that looks after it, and they have been in touch with SAP. The support is mainly for all of the customers and we normally provide the support necessary ourselves. The support is quite limited, however, we can handle most client queries ourselves and don't need too much assistance.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is largely straightforward. That's my understanding. I do not do it personally, however, there is a team on-site that does it and they don't seem to have too many problems.

There are two parts to the setup. One is technical, and the other is functional. To set up the technical components of Business One is very easy. It is usually done in a few hours.  The functional aspect normally isn't that difficult, as compared to SAP S/4HANA, however, it takes at least three days to one week to set up the data.

The full deployment can take somewhere around three to four months.

We handle the maintenance for our customers.

What about the implementation team?

I don't handle the implementation myself, however, we have an in-house team that manages the process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is less expensive than other solutions on the market. It's reasonably priced.

There are four main costs. That includes setup, maintenance, and support, for example. Costs vary according to if the setup is handled by the company or by a partner.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I am aware of other solutions, such as Microsoft Dynamics. They are more of a two-tier ERP and have cloud functionality.

What other advice do I have?

We're an SAP partner. We have a business relationship with the company.

We don't use the latest version of the solution. We tend to use the latest minus one.

While we have implemented it on the cloud, we largely deal with on-premise deployments.

Customers considering the solution should really figure out their requirements ahead of time. If they're planning to implement an ERP for a short period of time and make sure they get an ROI, Business One is a preferred option. It's important to understand the core business and the functionalities required. Understanding the business practices to be covered will help you communicate your needs and assess the correct requirements.

Overall, I would rate this solution at an eight out of ten. It's been a largely positive experience.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Straightforward to set up and the support is good, but it should be more user-friendly
Pros and Cons
  • "Technical support from SAP is great."
  • "This is a great product on its own, and the technicalities of it have improved as compared to the older version."
  • "The look-and-feel of the system is quite outdated as compared to a lot of other products out there."
  • "The look-and-feel of the system is quite outdated as compared to a lot of other products out there."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and SAP Business One on AWS is one of the products that we offer to our clients. Our customers are typically in the manufacturing or wholesale distribution industries. They are predominately looking at refreshing their management solution and are looking for a better-integrated system, more from the finance, stock management point of view.

Some of our clients have products that are going out of life and they want to get to the next stage, which is where I think SAP comes in.

What needs improvement?

The look-and-feel of the system is quite outdated as compared to a lot of other products out there. They are more user-friendly, I would say. As someone who has not used accounting products before, they might find it quite overwhelming.

It should be more user-friendly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with SAP Business One on AWS for a few years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This product is very much stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a scalable solution. I have different clients of various sizes who are using it.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support from SAP is great. If you're not able to do it as a partner, you always have SAP's help.

How was the initial setup?

This solution has its own complexities because it is an ERP system, but the current version is pretty straightforward. That said, you will still need external help, as you probably couldn't do with internal IT teams.

The length of time to deploy can take anywhere from 15 or 20 days and above.

What about the implementation team?

The number of staff needed for deployment and maintenance depends on the size of the project. They are all user-dependent. Also, it depends on the complexity of deployment in terms of what kind of environment it is.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licenses are available on a monthly or yearly basis, and it costs about $1,200 per license, per user. Given what you're getting from the system, I think it's worth it.

What other advice do I have?

This is a great product on its own, and the technicalities of it have improved as compared to the older version. I absolutely recommend it and we plan to continue selling it.

I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Good support, solid performance, and scales according to our needs
Pros and Cons
  • "Over the past ten years, we have found SAP Business One to be a very solid product."
  • "There are only a few standard reports available and if you want more then they either have to be downloaded or built."
  • "We would like to see more options in terms of the product module. It requires more details for production because it is very basic."

What is our primary use case?

We are a service provider and we use SAP Business One for most of our clients.

The basic modules that we use are for financials, inventory, account receivables, accounts payable, and human resources.

What is most valuable?

The vendor has a very good roadmap for the product.

What needs improvement?

We would like to see more options in terms of the product module. It requires more details for production because it is very basic.

There are only a few standard reports available and if you want more then they either have to be downloaded or built. Having more standard reports available would be an improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP Business One for between 10 and 15 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Over the past ten years, we have found SAP Business One to be a very solid product.

The initial setup is straightforward and it takes a couple of days to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

Our in-house team is in charge of implementation, deployment, and maintenance. Two staff are required for deployment.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We are currently working towards implementing the cloud-based, AWS, or Azure model.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, this is a good product and I recommend it. At the same time, I would like to see improvements made to the reporting. Having more reports and better reporting options would earn it a perfect rating.

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Easy to use software that helps with finance, invoicing, and accounting
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable aspect is that it is easy to use the software."
  • "The most valuable aspect is that it is easy to use the software."
  • "Not a ten because it's not software for a structured company or something very big. That is my impression."
  • "Not a ten because it's not software for a structured company or something very big. That is my impression."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is for finance, invoicing and accounting.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect is that it is easy to use the software.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP Business One on AWS for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are limits to the analytical dimensions for the accounting. There are only three analytical dimensions. You can choose a maximum of three analytical dimensions. If you want to use a more, you can. You have to upgrade the software with a version like HANA.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are satisfied with the price.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate it an eight out of ten.

Not a ten because it's not software for a structured company or something very big. That is my impression.

Stable solution but there have been problems with the deployment
Pros and Cons
  • "I believe the solution is very stable."
  • "I believe the solution is very stable."
  • "I feel that these vendors must be well trained so that they can deploy this solution."
  • "The vendor wasn't competent enough to deploy the SAP solution so I had to go online to help them resolve their issue."

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case of this solution will be sale purchasing and financing.

What needs improvement?

Presently the vendor that is deploying it has lots of challenges. They are implementing it now, but we've not really signed it up. The challenge we are currently facing is that we are trying to integrate it with an SSL, or adding the SSL certificate. That is proving to be quite a challenge. That's mapping the private IP address with the public IP address.

I feel that these vendors must be well trained so that they can deploy this solution. The challenge is that they know the internal configuration, but they don't know how to configure it on a server. I don't think they have good knowledge of server security.

What we are basically using it for, is as an accounting package. So the vendors need to have a very good understanding of accounting and balancing accounts. They are not well-grounded.

For how long have I used the solution?

A vendor is currently deploying it in our organization, so we have just started using it on premises.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I believe the solution is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We currently have eight users and the only challenge I currently see is the performance. We only have a license for eight users, but we plan on increasing our usage if we are satisfied with it and if it meets our needs. So I believe the solution is scalable.

How are customer service and technical support?

The vendor wasn't competent enough to deploy the SAP solution so I had to go online to help them resolve their issue. And I am a customer.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is rather straightforward even though we have been struggling with a few issues.

What other advice do I have?

On a scale from one to ten, I rate this solution a seven. Additional features I would like to see in the next version is an ERP. This is an SAP Business One solution, but the HR part of SAP Business One is very limited. If they can add more features to the HR module inside the SAP Business One, it would be great.

Disclosure: My company does not have a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer.
